Best haddock and chips we've had. The batter was beautifully crisp and chips to die for. Coffee was lovely too,all served by a lovely girl who seemed to be a one man band. Serving coffees drinks and taking orders, don't know how she managed it,but she was so friendly and didn't need to write the order down from five of us. Great food and great service. We will be back.

We were staying in Hexham for a couple off nights and decided to try The Heart of Northumberland for dinner. It had great atmosphere and friendly staff. Hubby had the fish and chips, not for the faint hearted, he advised it was perfect. I had the Guinness and bbq chicken sizzling skillet. It was very tasty but I could not eat it all. Recommend to try here if you are staying or passing through Hexham, you will not be disappointed.

Had a lovely Saturday lunch at the Heart. We picked it as reviews said it was dog friendly, and we can say it is exceptionally so! The staff were lovely and made us feel welcome and made a real fuss over Ru. We both had fish finger sandwiches which were very tasty and well cooked (not overly oily fried fish). Only let down is that you can’t tip on card so were unable to leave as much gratuity as we wanted to.

Stopped for lunch and food following a day trip to Hexham. Disappointed in the food. Husband got the scotch egg starter for £8. Expected it to be a larger than normal scotch egg but it was just the size of a normal scotch egg and no nicer than a scotch egg from a supermarket. I got the fish finger sandwich. 3 small bits of fish that did not even cover the bread. Overall food less than average but atmosphere was alright. Would stop again for a drink but would not order food again.

I had the harissa aubergine stack burger with sweet potato chips. The chips were limp and the aubergine was raw and with a strange combination of potato slices in the burger. It just didn't work. Lovely bar with interesting food. Popped in for a couple of drinks - good cask ales well kept, and decided to book for dinner the following evening. Whilst the food was good, the service provided by two ladies, was not a patch on the previous evening. No attentive table service for our meal and we ordered at the bar for drinks and food..... the previous evening, two gentlemen were staffing the bar and were extremely attentive and provided an excellent at table service. However, whilst not an extensive menu, the food and produce quality was very high.

A decent enough pub, small and cosy and the ambience is superb. The front of the pub, by the bar is fine. The rear is awful, with no atmosphere. It is super, the fact that it is dog friendly, but because it is so confined, be careful. Good reviews for food, but we have been "beefed up" before with too much cabbage with a Sunday Lunch. A good selection of wines and beers, although no Shiraz, when we asked. All in all, 4 x stars. We like the fact that it is cosy and comfortable. If you want more atmosphere, go to Muhhro or The County.

Worst Sunday lunch I’ve eaten in a long while. Best I can describe it was mush . Described as a butternut squash wellington , as it was vegan there was no pastry nor Yorkshire pudding so it was over cooked butternut squash and vegetables drowned in gravy. My partner had the pork loin with crackling which was over cooked and crackling was soft. To be fair I was warned about no pastry but I hadn’t anticipated the overcooked vegetables. So I ordered the toffee brownie dessert to make up for it and this came only half full of the glass it was in whereas sundaes are usually to the top at least! By this time I didn’t want to complain again as they had already knocked of the price of a round of drinks but I won’t be returning. On the up side , The girl who served us was lovely and the ambience was nice and cosy . Unfortunately I can’t even say it was cheap because nearly £8 for a half filled dessert is a bit excessive .

We really fancied a fish and chip lunch during our visit to Alnwick but didn't know of anywhere to get any - then we came across Carlos. We both had the meals that came with a 'side' (how American is that?), bread & butter and a drink. Every aspect was brilliant - thin tasty batter, plump fish, (homemade?) tartar sauce and gorgeous chips. The mushy peas were mega too. Unusually the bread was from a Tiger loaf which really went with the food. The food came to the table piping hot and stayed hot to the end. A fresh slice of lemon too. The tea was a bit strong for our liking but it's better than being wishy washy I suppose. We eat fish & chips fairly regularly and these were among the best. Highly recommended.

Great food, superb service and a welcoming atmosphere. Just make sure that if you come for a meal that you are hungry, very hungry...the portions are large and delicious... Great place for a casual dinner or just dropping in for a quick pint. Parking can be an issue but it's worth the walk... A real all season Pub that embraces events and includes outdoor seating for alfresco dining if the weather permits. A wonderful place alongside theTyne that should not be overlooked..
