I’ve been in this little jem a couple of times and I can’t fault this place lots of old fashioned atmosphere great ales and the staff are amazing. A typical example myself the wife and friend plus our little dog Alfie couldn’t get a taxi back to herding hill campsite so the manager said no problem I’ll take you back what a gentleman.

Very poor bland food. When in the North of England on the borders of Scotland, decided to have one of my favourite meals. Cumberland sausage with mash potatoes and vegetables. When served the sausage had no spices or herbs in it as normal. The Vegetables were green beans and two broccoli heads all overcooked and mash potatoes. The sausage was sat upon two broccoli stalks to make it sit up and look more substantial. If this normal as the waitress said, I would recommend a wide berth for this place.

Well where to start we went in and no welcome was given. We had booked a table. The lass behind the bar just pointed at two tables in the bar and said either on of them. Now the last time I ate here the menus were brought to us and drinks order taken at the table. No menus brought to us no drinks order taken so we went to the bar and ordered drinks and asked for the menu. Then went back to order the food. Me all was huge loads of veg which I love but the beef was very chewy. Saying that it could be a personal taste thing as I do like my beef cooked low and very slow but we both did comment it was very fatty. Would also like to point out just as I know who it is runs the place that as soon as he came in food and drink orders were taken at the table next to us as they would normally have been. Just goes to show what staff get up to when the boss is away

There were eleven of us booked for a family meal out on a weekend away. The service was a little slow to start with, but maybe they were giving us plenty of time to sort ourselves out. The service and food were both good, and the manager came in cracking bad jokes - and knowing it - and having fun with us. All in all, it was a little small and odd, but I liked it, even the "Blue cheese" ice-cream that was offered as a dessert! (Nice as a one off!)

My partner and I both ordered vegetarian lasagne and home made chips and it was absolutely delicious! We missed the last bus back to our campsite at the top of the hill, and as we were both shattered and had bags of shopping with us, Martin, very kindly gave us (and our dog) a lift back when we had finished our drinks...what an absolute gentleman!
