HAVE JUST HAD A PERFECT WEEK AT THIS LOVELY HOTEL. WE WERE WITH A GROUP AND NOT ONE OF US COULD FIND ANYTHING TO FAULT IT. FOOD WAS SUPERB AND THE BREAKFAST SELECTION WAS THE BEST WE HAVE EVER KNOWN. IF ONLY IT HAD BEEN TWO WEEKS INSTEAD OF ONE.

We visited this restaurant two years ago and were keen to return . Our visit last night was a mixed bag . On the plus side , the waiter ( I believe a gentleman from Hungary) was the best part of our visit as he was helpful and friendly. Our mains were pleasant though not outstanding. On the down side, another server, when asked a question, advised us that he was “ only in the kitchen and didn’t know” was an odd response. Perhaps he could have asked a colleague? I chose the “ wholly “ ice cream for dessert. The worst premium ice cream I have ever tasted. To be fair , the cost was removed from the bill, but why not use the magnificent ice cream made on a nearby island? Everything seems to come from Gloucestershire. Finally, I visited the gents lavatory while I was there. It was not dirty but the bin for the hand towels was too full to add any more , indicating that nobody had been checking it for a very long time . Most places have a schedule for checking. Do they ? Yes ..this is the best place to eat in Hugh Town definitely and we tried most of them in a week! Now the online menu looks expensive but when you get there the nightly specials are reasonably priced for the quality and include all the trimmings you need! We had an excellent Sunday roast type meal on a Sunday evening and were very pleased with the food quality, the excellent service and the very pleasant environment. We really should have gone twice!

A special meal for our last night on The Scillies. Both the service and the food were excellent. We dined in the modern part of the restaurant and enjoyed scallops and scotch egg for starters and both of us enjoyed their speciality steaks, for our mains. Fantastic and hope to return the next time we’re on The Scillies.

Last day on the Isles of Scilly so spoiled ourselves with afternoon tea at the Hall. Worth every penny, window table looking out on the Garden. The sandwiches, cut into fingers freshly made and very tasty ( my fav was the beef and horseradish, but the crab was almost as good). Then the warm scones with clotted cream and jam and finally the cakes, all had with pots of tea that they would keep refreshing for us. A perfect end to another holiday on St Marys.

Definitely 5 out of 5 for comfort - the room was warm and spacious with a great view of the harbour from the bathroom, if you're tall enough to see it! We rated it 4 because of the food. The breakfasts are fantastic. However, as vegetarians staying for a week we felt there was limited choice for us. After we complained that we couldn't choose from the same three dishes for a week, they did offer a veggie special each night, but we felt the vegetarian options were carb laden and heavily reliant on (smoked) cheese or jackfruit. A dish with tofu or a bean stew (such as that served with the fish one night) would have been very welcome. The staff in the bar and restaurant were exceptional. Polite, considerate, articulate and happy. A real credit to the hotel - and themselves!

We were lucky enough to get in on a Sunday evening. Excellent Sunday roasts , but the regular menu looked great too. Mussels as a starter is new and very nice indeed. The whole meal was delicious and staff wonderful too. A must place to eat

This establishment fancies itself as the best restaurant on St Marys. Linen tablecloths and napkins. Snooty staff, especially the barman who almost dropped his wine measure when tossing it around showing off. Food: starters of deep-fried squid were well done. Mains of Cornish sole were dry and swimming in butter. Broccoli was hard and undercooked. Pudding of Sticky toffee was moist and succulent. A mixed bag but not worth the overpriced bill. Not impressed.

St. Mary's Hall had just opened when last I visited in 1967. It was good to see that it has established itself as a good-looking, comfortable hotel with a very good restaurant indeed. Decent wine list and a varied menu, including some adventurous starters (my Steak Tartare was very well presented and delicious). The garden is a peaceful place for pre or post dinner drinks. A vital part of the Hughtown set up. Long may the business flourish!

Stayed 2 nights full board early September 2023 The choice for breakfast was immense, well presented and tasty . The evening meal has some excellent specials. I had John Dory for the first time and it didn't disappoint. The staff and chefs were very helpful with tweaking the dishes to cater for allergies . So yes I would recommend

Unfortunately the waiter serving us didn’t know anything about the menu causing us to order food we didn’t want. When it arrived some of the meat really wasn’t good quality and service was slow.

Family dinner out was let down by staff that didn’t know or understand the menu, food that was adequate and slow service for both food and drink

We had previously had an excellent meal here last year but the service on our visit this year was not as good as I am sure it is normally, which impacted our overall experience and was disappointing.

We’ve dined at The Hall during our past few visits to St Mary’s and haven’t been disappointed but unfortunately this year there were a number of issues. The £90 deposit was banked immediately (in our case at the beginning of March for a July booking), rather than being held for our visit, and a hefty service charge is added to your bill whether or not you want to tip that much. We were also brought the wrong wine and later charged for this more expensive wine than the cheaper one which we eventually received. We only realised this once back at our self-catering accommodation, so used the feedback form emailed to us after our visit to mention this but, three weeks on, have still not received a reply from The Hall. Whilst the food was okay, all of the above has left a bitter taste in our mouths.

Really lovely food, interesting specials - I had the hake with chorizo and butter beans which was delicious. The half lobster was a generous portion and perfectly cooked. Puddings looked tempting, as did the cheese, but sadly just couldn’t eat another bite. Will definitely come back!

To celebrate a special occasion, we booked afternoon tea at The Hall. The appearance of the tea advertised on the website was most appetising. The reality, however, was at best disappointing. The tea was weak and we had to ask for additional teabags. The bread for the sandwiches appeared to be no better than basic range from a supermarket; the smoked salmon was tough and the beef even tougher. The scones tasted as if they had been made with scone mix and warmed in a microwave. There was enough cream for at least four if not six scones and the jam tasted of mixed fruit from a catering can. There was a selection of what looked like shop bought tray bake, far below the standard expected from a *** hotel.

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. So nice to have option of fresh fish on the bone. Great flavours and quality steak too.

We had a superb meal at St Mary’s Hall. From pre dinner cocktails in garden to delicious starter and main course, great wine and ambrosial dessert we had a wonderful evening. The restaurant was lacking atmosphere as most of the diners were elderly and left by 2000 but hopefully the rest of the season will bring increased clientele this excellent restaurant deserves. The bar man could have been more welcoming and friendly but the lady serving drinks made up for his lack of warmth.

Excellent busy restaurant serving an extensive menu with brilliant service and quality of food. Slight issue with the fire alarm going off, but quite amusing seeing the chef's taking it in turns to waft something at the smoke detector.
