Very convenient walk from the marina and we came here 3 times over the course of a week or so, whilst sailing from Oban. Nothing fancy, but good piping hot food in the upper bar. Downstairs on a Thursday, local bands play which are very popular. Met loads of tourists and had some very interesting conversations!

Have passed by many times and dropped by for some poultry feed and to look at what was on offer. Basically not a lot. Limited range in shop which was overpriced. Restaurant or more like basic cafe was nearly empty and lacking character. To cap it all the owner was extremely rude and certainly does not know how to attract new customers. will not be going back !

Had the pleasure of dining at the Tine restaurant as we were staying in Hawes for the weekend. The staff were so pleasant and welcoming. The decor was very tasteful and classical and loved the baby grand in the middle of the restaurant. We opted for the 3 courses for Ā£59 and were not disappointed. The wait for food was not long at all and was piping hot. Nice little touches with different glassware for water decanters, simple but very much a conversation starter. We were made to feel we had all the time in the world and not made to feel rushed at all. Such a pleasant experience and a little gem of a place hidden in the hillside and Iāll definitely be back for a stay over. Keep doing what you are doingā¦

Christmas lunch 2023, Ā£90 per head. Utter disappointment and a truly Fawlty Towers-esque experience. We had to laugh as it was Christmas Day but it was really awful. No one in reception, sign saying go to the bar. No one in the bar, eventually found a passing member of staff and we were directed to where Christmas lunch was happening. Through a door with a large sign saying ātoiletsā past a kitchen set up and into what I assume is their banqueting space. We managed to catch someoneās eye and rather than being shown to our table we were waved in the general direction and had to please ourselves. After ten minutes of just sitting there I had to get up and ask a nearby waitress to take our drinks order. She seemed a little bit surprised we wanted drinks⦠Eventually some drinks arrived but it would take four more times asking for some water for the table before it came. Starters came out eventually and were fine. We then thought it would be nice to have some wineā¦. Me- could we have some wine please? Waitress- ā¦ā¦ā¦.. Me- do you have a wine list? Waitress- ā¦..not really a wine list noā¦ā¦ what were you thinking ofā¦ā¦. Me- maybe some white wine? Nice and dry? Maybe something from New Zealand? Waitress- ermā¦. I think we have a Pinot?? I donāt know about wine, Iām the wedding plannerā¦.. Me- ok letās try the Pinot⦠Screw top of Italian Pinot Grigio plonked on the table and three glasses plonked down upside downā¦.. By this point we really needed the wine! Mains were served, plated turkey dinner. We wait patiently for the dish of veg seen in the middle of all the other tables. It doesnāt arrive. I catch the eye of the waitress and enquireā¦. In her words āhmmm, they have run out of veg and thereās no more. Iām not sure what the plan isā¦.ā No apology, nil, nada. Not five mins later we see veg sailing out to other tablets. At this point not even the wine is enough to soothe and we managed to ask the only sensible member of staff in the place, who magics up some veg asap. I could go on but I wonāt. What the experience lacked in terms of service, it make up for in sheer comedy value but was daylight robbery for what we actually had. Hey ho! Update- very kindly the venue read my review and got back to me directly without me having to chase. They kindly refunded the cost of a bottle of wine and Ā£15 per head. To be clear, the food was fine, I think we expected a little more for the price though, maybe a glass of fizz on arrival, coffee and petit fours after the meal etc. Kelly was fab on the day and when replying. The rest of the service was poor as described as above.

What I like about the PETROU Brothers Fish & Chips store, is that they focus and have done for years on the best quality Fish and Potatoes' using the best vegetable oils, having a great Dutch equipment the oil fryer, prices are good and the portions are over generous, all together with really happy and friendly staff, including the home deliveries, on time and still very hot, ensuring good quality in all the fields of service. Several evening I had completly forgot about their closing times, I turned up late, door was closed they were just cleaning up and closing, but they opened the door and cooked and served me my take away fish and chips, that's customers dedication for you at its best. Well done the Brothers and the staff get a 100% score from me.

Popped in the off chance and noticed the winter wonderland. Absolutely beautiful! We both had an āall day breakfastā and it hit the spot perfectly. The staff were wonderful and it was a quick service. It was that good we forgot to take a picture. Will be returning very shortlyš„°

Popped into the takeaway one on cheepside on mon 5th of feb around 12.50 as had an appointment at 2pm and wanted a quick snack. When I walked in the guy behind the counter was serving someone with a big order, there was nobody else in apart from me. When the big order had left he came to me and asked me what I wanted. I said a cone of chips and he said 1.60 please. He took a 2 pound coin off me, gave me 40p back and then disappeared in the back. I thought he was waiting for fresh chips but then 2 teenagers came in and he served them with chips! I was just about to ask if he had forgotten my order when my phone rang. The guy came back to me and I put my hand up to indicate I was on the phone. When I ended the call he asked me what I wanted! I said I'm still waiting for my cone of chips! He got the chips, handed them to me and said that's 1.60! Unbelievable, the guy needs to attend a memory clinic! He actually accused me of not paying! Won't be calling there again anytime soon!

Rowan is our local Garden Centre and we visit often to buy good quality plants, garden furniture and gifts. They have recently built a new cafe, which looks lovely, but unfortunately does not allow customers to sit inside if they are accompanied by their dog. There are a number of tables outside, but only a few are positioned in the sun and there is no outside heating provided. They do offer a few blankets for customers to use, but there are not enough to go round. Sadly there have been a number of occasions when my partner and myself have walked to Rowan with our dog, hoping to stop for coffee or lunch, only to leave feeling disappointed as no suitable seating has been availableā¦..as happened this morning - the sun was shining, but all the tables receiving itās warmth had been taken (mainly by customers without a dog) and it was simply too cold to sit under the shelter. Inside the cafe were many empty tables which were useless for us as we were not allowed to sit there with our well behaved Labrador. Such a shame.

We visited this morning for breakfast. We ordered 1 egg & bacon sandwich, 3 croissants, a tea, hot chocolate and an orange juice. It cost Ā£17.40. The drinks came out quite quickly which was fine. We then waited nearly 30 mins for the sandwich and 3 croissants! The sandwich came out toasted for some reason. I said I would eat it so donāt worry after she blankly at me. It took another 16 mins for the croissants to arrive. Now fair enough we did ask for 2 of them to be warmed up, but when 2 came out warmed up and no sign of the other one for yet another 10 mins. My husband politely asked her why it was taking so long for the last croissant to come out. Her answer was I wanted all the food to come out at once (failed at that one)!! She then said with a total attitude ā Iāve only got one pair of hands you knowā. She then came back and chucked the plate on the table and walked off!!! If they donāt want to be a cafe then donāt be. Save your attitude and comments to yourselves! The customer isnāt always right. But when you get attitude and a stupid waiting time and then the order is wrong. Politeness never hurts from the staff! When the locals tell you to avoid the place your best off listening to them! Oh well lesson learned!!!
