Had the pleasure of dining at the Tine restaurant as we were staying in Hawes for the weekend. The staff were so pleasant and welcoming. The decor was very tasteful and classical and loved the baby grand in the middle of the restaurant. We opted for the 3 courses for £59 and were not disappointed. The wait for food was not long at all and was piping hot. Nice little touches with different glassware for water decanters, simple but very much a conversation starter. We were made to feel we had all the time in the world and not made to feel rushed at all. Such a pleasant experience and a little gem of a place hidden in the hillside and I’ll definitely be back for a stay over. Keep doing what you are doing…

The Restaurant was AMAZING. We had been keen to stay in the UYorkshire Dales for some time, and to experience the walks and landscape, so was excited to find this place on instagram. The dishes were refined, flavours were bold lifts, with delicate highlights and, although being a more up-market restaurant, the atmosphere was casual, light, friendly and fun. For £55 for three courses, at this standard, it offers amazing value for money. I can see that a few have made comment on portion sizes, but after a day out walking, we were more than happily stuffed before a cheeseboard to graze with a cocktail after. It's not pub grub, and we weren't looking for a pub meal experience, though the bar menu looked tasty too. On the Sunday, which was our last night, we LOVED the summer sunday menu, and had lots of delicious sharing sides to create our own roast style, I opted for the whole fish, and the hubby for the tender beef. WOW. We were thrilled to dine each evening, and find something to suit each of us, and something different each day - not always possible!

A beautiful setting for a hotel and restaurant. Just a shame that the food and elements of the service that we experienced did not quite live up to the bucolic surroundings. Food was distinctly average (the dessert that I had was really very poor). There were two waiters on duty that evening. The older of the two wasn't particularly welcoming. I wouldn't say that he was rude but he wasn't particularly friendly either. However, we were lifted by the warmth and enthusiasm of the younger man who compensated a little for the chilly disposition of his older colleague.

After a very long time in Lockdown (17 months), we booked a short stay at Simonstone Hotel. On arriving, we parked up the car and walked around to the front of the Hotel where the views were astounding, you could hear a pin drop, tranquillity. We entered the Hotel to find bags and bags of linen ready to be removed, (it was after 3pm) then to be shown to our room. The cleanliness was lovely in the bathroom, but not in the room it’s self. There wasn’t a remote for the TV, so no television, despite asking for one, twice. Dirty cracked windows that looked out onto a filthy roof covered in stagnant water and dead spiders in the corners.

We had dinner on two of the nights we stayed, opting for a long-late lunch on the other. The food here was indescribably delicious - All amazing produce, locally-sourced and even homegrown! We really enjoyed watching the staff and chefs working and harvesting in the kitchen garden from our vantage point on the wonderful terrace. The restaurant is intimate, cosy with wonderful candle-light, flower/foliage ceiling and views up to the fell (Stags Fell?). Would definitely recommend dinner here - the staff were wonderful and the wines were fantastic too. VERY reasonably priced for the offering.

I dined here twice over the first weekend in October 2020 and both times were excellent. Stand out moments for me were the melt-in-the-mouth chicken liver pâté, the gnocchi with its exquisite accompanying dark brown blobs... (what was that?) and (ooh) the chocolate dessert. My compliments to the chef; it was all perfectly delicious. Can’t wait to come back - and stay, next time!

Firstly, a disclaimer: I've been visiting, staying or eating at Simonstone Hall, along with other venues in the Dales, for more than twenty years, and seen it under multiple owners, who I do know. In that time, I've seen its cuisine vary from decent pub food to fine dining, and also experienced a couple of quality blips along the way. We've just eaten there twice this weekend, after our first trip back in more than a year (when it was simply very good indeed), and… …wow. New chef, new menu, new heights. First night, I had the sashimi tuna starter, followed by the steak. The former was sublime, with presentation to match. The latter was simply a very good steak, albeit that 'medium rare' was the English interpretation, rather than the French - I'd have liked a little more moo remaining. Second night, I had the lamb loin, which was easily amongst the most tender and perfectly cooked lamb I've eaten. That was chased by a deconstructed apple crumble. I'm not usually too fond of the trend for the fragmentation of classic dishes, but this worked beautifully and combined to provide a varied set of tastes, all of which did say, "apple crumble". The cheeseboard again was superb (the fig chutney is a standout) and could only be improved by actually labelling the different cheeses, to save us bothering the staff. The Dales aren't short of decent places to eat, but this - for me - moves Simonstone into the top tier of local gastronomy. Keep it up!

Expensive. We had the set price evening meal (all that was on offer), we found it very poor value for money although the food was ok. Belly of Pork starter, followed by a very small Haddock, with a few chips and peas, the fish was average, the chips was below par and the peas was just that ‘peas’. £39.00 for 2 courses, the haddock could have been alternated with a Burger. At best this shouldn’t have been more than £25. The same starter with a sirloin steak carried a £5 supplement making £44. The setting was pleasant, the service was ok, overall we had a nice evening but it was very overpriced.

Our traditional Easter break coincided with one of our freinds’ Birthday, so we chose to celebrate with a special location for dinner. We were not disappointed. This is a lovely place. Stunning building & decor with outstanding views from the patio. As it was a beautiful evening we started with pre dinner drinks on this perfectly appointed patio, enjoying the stunning views over the valley towards a Hawes, enjoying the site of the resident peacock with full feathers- beautiful. As it was a Subday Dinner was fixed price offering for 1,2 or 3 courses, including Sunday roast. Between us we chose the roast beef, roast lamb and the sea bass. All served with a central huge plate of lots of different vegetables and accompaniments. Nobody was disappointed in the least. Puddings included the cheesecake, cheeseboard and local ice cream - all delicious. The staff, whilst clearly very busy, were very friendly and efficient and professional. We had a very memorable evening.

We discovered Simonstone Hall while following the Pennine Way path up the hill beyond our rental self-catering in Hardraw (near Hawes.) While we'd been preparing most of our meals, we thought a change was in order, so we booked a table for lunch. On the particular day, the booking wasn't necessary. The last bank holiday was past and a bit of rainy weather had lessened the number of hikers who might have been on hand. The building is a quite elegant country house with the expected decor and lovely views out over Wensleydale. We chose to eat in the pub, where we found the menu offered many standards and a few innovations. The soup of the day was sweet potato, chili, and lime... I gambled and won spectacularly. It was magnificent as were the meals of the others in our group. The waitstaff were professional and friendly. It was an excellent meal, enhanced by the setting. I recommend it highly... even if it's a bit off the beaten path.

Our room okay but the whole atmosphere of the place could be summed up as" ünloved". It was such a shameOne of our windows in our room looked out over the roof and our view was of the gutters which were in bad need of cleaning. The gardens needed tending and it could be a beautiful place but it was very tired as the staff also seemed. My friend had to go and find somebody so we could book in. At dinner first night I was served a dreadful thing we thought was a pate. When I told the waiter I could not eat it, nothing was done about it. Poor.Breakfast was better, and we ate out the next night.

Walked from the small town of Hawes on a beautiful sunny April day. Ordered lunch - hubby had ham sandwich, salad garnish and chips, me the caesar salad. Hubby was well impressed with the decent beer. I can honestly say I pinched two chips from husbands meal and I have never, ever eaten a chip so delicious in the whole of my life! My salad had lots of the usual chicken and bacon and enormous anchovies. OK we paid more than we would have in a pub in Hawes but the view from the sunny terrace, the food, lovely waitress, the setting. One for the memory bank!

Many blokes would probably go for a local pub, but this is somewhere that ticks most of the pub boxes while also appealing to ladies who prefer something a little more gentile. That said us males often choose it too.Feels classy, comfortable and cosy. Unbeatable location and views over the Dales from the bistro style restaurant and the extensive outside terrace and gardens. Great on a light summers eve or, to settle in on a cold winter's night. Food very good - menu could be a little more adventurous / varied. Beer mostly good, but could do with more local micro brewery ales.

Lovely setting, dining outside in the sunshine with splendid views across Hawes. That was about as good as it got.We ordered sandwiches with chunky chips.Homecooked ham with mustard came without mustard. The waitress rectified this. Roast beef came with french fries rather than 'chunky' version served with the ham for some reason? The top slice of bread with the ham was dry. This was brought to the attention of the waitress who replaced the top slice with the excuse the plate (along with salad garnish!) had been put under a heat lamp in the kitchen. 'It was a stand in chef today'. He clearly was not standing in the kitchen!

We ate here on the eve of the Tour and were very pleased with the reception, service and food. Though the normal menu had been suspended the buffet was varied and apertising. Our Cod in shellfish sauce was very tasty. There was also a good selection of vegetables and salads. As a diabetic a word with the maître d, produced a large fresh fruit salad instead of the selection which my wife told me was a little limited but given the numbers catered for was adequate. We also enjoyed a Chilean Merlot which was very palatable and reasonably priced. After dinner coffee was served in one of the lounges and was cheaper for a cafetiere, which gave us four large cups, than the two cups of mediocre coffee from a machine we had bought at a local attraction's cafe earlier in the day. Also we were told by others guests who had eaten the night before that the food from the normal menu had been very good.Despite being under pressure from numbers of guests and diners, staff remained calm, polite and attentive. If in the area again we would definitely eat here again.

This review gets a very good mainly because it is a lovely place, eating in the large conservatory like extension is a nice experience; lovely setting. We were there for Sunday lunch at the carvery. You can choose from three types of meat which is carved in front of you, but you only get two pieces which did not seem a lot when you can help yourselves to accompaniments including cauliflower cheese, parsnips, roasties etc. Some of the veg, namely the carrots and the broccoli were a little under cooked and this comes from someone who likes their veg al dente. There is a large jug of gravy on a side table, but one gravy for all meat types. If you like your beef well done then you will be happy. The Yorkshire puds were excellent and the sides very good.Service was, as always, excellent and the dining area was clean and looked great.
