The Oban Inn in Argyll & Bute

Very convenient walk from the marina and we came here 3 times over the course of a week or so, whilst sailing from Oban. Nothing fancy, but good piping hot food in the upper bar. Downstairs on a Thursday, local bands play which are very popular. Met loads of tourists and had some very interesting conversations!

We were attracted to this old quaint, characteristic pub when visiting Oban for a few days and thought it was great value for money given the stunning location, decent pub grub and affordable drinks. However we were aghast at how the Bar Manager spoke to a staff member demeaningly in front many uncomfortable customers, referring to him as “stupid” and a time waster. This was most uncomfortable to watch as it came across clearly as bullying. We respectfully challenged this oppression on our way out, however we were also treated with disrespect by the Manager and a female staff member who refused to give her name demonstrating a very unprofessional demeanour. Saddened to be witness to an oppressive staff culture which I trust the owner will address . I note when writing this that another Scottish customer observed this disrespectful behaviour recently in May 2024. Good professionalism means addressing staff concerns privately and without demeaning individuals personally.

This visit was appalling. The poor female bar server had no glasses to serve her drinks in. My husband £9.00 for an Oban whisky which she had to pour into a half pint straight sided glass. She constantly had to apologise to customers about the lack of glasses and being on her own. Not a good experience.

We go here everytime we’re in Oban. It’s easily the best pub with the most friendly staff. It’s a home away from home. Food is always 10/10.

I stopped by the bar as I was planning to have a drink & I heard the music coming out of the bar! OMG 😱, the music was incredible and I was frozen with delight at the sound of the music & the array of instruments being used. The most beautiful music that I have experience of listening to! Anyone who's in Oban should go to the Oban Inn and stop by to hear their wonderful music in the bar! Unbelievable!, so understated but so marvelous!

Food, drink and atmosphere was brilliant. Very reasonably priced and would definitely return for both food and drinks again.

It’s rare in this day and age for me to find a pub that I feel relaxed and happy in. This is one of the few exceptions, the minute I walked in I could fee myself starting to relax. I went up to the bar and had a chat with Andy. He is great to chat with and a brilliant laugh. I asked about lunch and was told we could eat downstairs or upstairs. We headed upstairs and found a second bar with an amazing barmaid serving us. We ordered a selection of the bar snacks and a chicken burger. The bar snacks are stunning and really big portions. All of the food was good and the prices are great. A good laugh, stunning food and the bonus of getting to watch tipping point whilst eating. Will definitely be back when dropping my daughter off at Uni.

What a find! We had some time to kill before we headed on the ferry, and we wondered into the Oban Inn for lunch. It was excellent and the team behind the bar very funny. We had a quick lunch and it was so good that on our return the following evening, we had dinner & it also was exceptional. Massive credit to the team in the kitchen, food was fab and the pints hit the spot!

What a great night we had on Friday!! Live music upstairs was great Staff were really good, amazing night has with other customer, super friendly and would highly recommend anyone to go in if in Oban! Unfortunately didn’t make it in on Saturday night as driving in this morning but can’t wait to go back!!

What a pub! Great bar staff, all very welcoming and such a good laugh! Very cosy pub, and excellent live music on Saturdays. We went to just about every pub in Oban on our weekend stay, but the Oban Inn was definitely our favourite! Special shout out to Liam, David and Andy behind the bar!

De eigenaar was heel erg vriendelijk en het eten was echt top! Dit is echt een super leuke plek om te eten als je de Schotse pub sfeer zoekt. Op zondagen hebben ze ook live muziek en een speciale ‘Sunday roast’ op het menu staan. De locaal gebrouwen biertjes zijn ook een aanrader!!

This pub is very close to the Oban Distillary and has the feel of the oldest pub in town. Down stairs feels very rustic with the upstairs more comfortable but with less character. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere, friendliness, Guinness and whisky caused me to come back 3 consecutive nights. Ate here one night and can highly recommend the pies. Had steak pie with mash. Hearty and tasty with large tender pieces of steak. Overall, a great pub. If limited in time, this is the one I would go to in Oban.

A great place for a pint and some food, the staff are nice the decor is nice, unfortunately it's a little small (not their fault) summer time there is outside drinking which is nice.

Proper pie. Warm welcome from the barman, good food and drinks, dogs welcome too, inside. Good value

What a charming, friendly place this really is! Travelling for work with just me and my little dog, The Oban Inn was welcoming, super-friendly and I was served one of the nicest soups I have had in years.. a proper hearty, Winter Vegetable soup with chunky bread that was served with a genuine smile. Both the guys behind the bar were genuinely friendly and made a fuss of my dog.. a real slice of old fashioned hospitality in this truly historic old inn. Next time I am in Oban it will be the first place I call into!

The staff and real pub food were of a very high standard. We had smoke haddock and lentil chowder followed by steak pie. Both very hearty and tasty. Great value, service and top food. WE Can't recommend this place highly enough, excellent.

Obviously for tourists. Staff were excellent and welcoming. Drinks were expensive compared to other bars around Oban. Ordered 4 Drinks £22 , same Drinks in 2 other bars visited £16 & £18. Would drink in other places next time.

This is a fun pub to have a drink . There is live music upstairs. It’s crowded but a slice of Oban! Definitely stop in for a pint.
