First impressions were the staff were happier than the reception staff who checked me in, utterly miserable. David in the dining area was fantastic - super friendly and put a smile on all our faces :) The food however, just poor. As a foodie having eaten in thousands of decent places, the food, in my opinion was far from a 4*. My daughter’s chicken breast came out with a huge bone attached to it. They were very quick to replace it with something else which was great. The breakfast was again poor, bacon under cooked, poached eggs over cooked. Beans cold. Coffee cold. The following day, we had a Rob Roy, again poached eggs rock solid, and the amount of sauce poured over the top was unbearable. We went to the Loch Lomond Arms on the second night to avoid the hotel food and it was quite nice at slightly cheaper. Overall, disappointed.

We completed feed back and the Manager rang and we explained how my birthday meal had not been a good experience. He was going to look into this and arrange a refund. Our stay was 23 and 24th April. Evening meal was on the 24th. The booking was under the name of Smithson. To date we have not heard from the Manager again. This is a lovely hotel let down by the Restaurant.

We have been coming to the Lodge before Christmas for the past 3 years as a wee treat before all the madness of the festivities. The whole ambiance is so inviting and relaxing. The dinner is usually impeccable, but this time not so great. The choices for our main course were smaller than usual and what I wanted from the menu wasn't available. Both of our main courses were over cooked and a little dry and the desserts weren't up to the usual standard. Don't know if because there was a wedding on that the head chef was busy with that.

We were gifted a voucher to use for the breakfast tea which was a special occasion for my daughter. We were greeted (no smiles or conversation) and shown to a table. I asked if we could sit by the window and was told no as there was a “short turn around for lunch” and they needed to do “a deep clean”. We arrived at 10.45am. The deep clean later turned out to be wiping the window ledges with a cloth. I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant, it felt like the team didn’t want to be there for one, there was no nice vibe or chat. The food wasn’t the best. I have added a photo of the brick hard, burnt muffin. Such a shame as the location is beautiful. Won’t be back or recommend, felt like the only thing the team kept saying was “do you have a voucher code” to all the guests arriving. If they don’t want these clients, don’t advertise on Itison.

Went there for afternoon tea, and had been looking forward to it for a while. Really disappointed, and wishing I had gone for a burger and chips. The sausage rolls were the best, and the haggis bonbons were ok. The sandwiches were a bit boring. Tuna mayonnaise cheese and spring onion and egg mayo. Scone was ok, but no butter, and not clotted cream the cakes were either dangerous to diabetics, or dried out and a bit tasteless. The waiting staff were all very nice and, of course, the view was amazing.

Lovely views, friendly staff. The one comment I would make is that we were told when booking that we'd have to give up our table in 1.5 hours, but that was only enough time for starters and mains, not pudding. It seems that should be lifted,or more service staff hired to ensure a quicker 3 course turnaround as there seemed to be too few wait staff there for the size of the Good Friday crowd.

He had a fantastic time at the restaurant. Honestly, the best part about this was the staff. The cocktails and food were exceptional but the staff really made our night. We were served by Kate and David and they made SUCH a fuss of all of the dogs that were there. They introduced all of the dogs and were very patient with our excitable puppy, Tully. Service was prompt, drinks arrived quickly and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. They provided water for Tully really quickly and were so welcoming. Our dog is only six months old so we were a little anxious about taking him to the restaurant as he’s very happy to see people (at times too happy!) but the staff made our stay really pleasant. Huge thank you to everyone, but in particular Kate and David - a credit to this hotel and the main reason that we’ll be back! x

Have to say we were a little underwhelmed with our afternoon tea experience. We had to ‘chase’ a waiter to actually get some tea and then, when we asked for another pot, we were given one containing one teabag. The teapots only allowed for two small cups each. No one asked about allergies or hot beverage preferences. Also if you are to serve savouries such as sausage rolls and haggis bon bons with chutney, you might give your guests another plate to use when eating the sweet selection. The food was tasty but for the price we paid, not a lot of it. We had previously come along to your morning tea and were impressed with it and the service. This time, however, not so much. The restaurant wasn’t very busy, so the staff weren’t being stretched. We didn’t feel that we got value for money and aren’t sure if we would make the 2 hour trip to get to your establishment again.

The restaurant looks good and quite modern. We weren't asked for a drink order or preferences etc, my 9 year old daughter was with us and was assumed she was having the same. I asked for the prosecco and coffee, when the food arrived. Food was good, sandwiches nice and a sausage roll and haggis bon bon each. Some small cakes, scone etc. we didn't have a voucher. Paid £75 for 3. Felt like the service was a little lacking and the cost was way too much. I think if paid less with the voucher, might have been better value for money. We had bought a voucher for afternoon tea - cost £35 for two people. We had previously had their morning tea and were quite impressed by it, so thought this would be on a par with it. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy and we were shown to our seats by the window, quickly. The food arrived a few minutes later but no tea arrived. I had to go to find a waiter to see what had happened. When it arrived, we were slightly disappointed to see a small teapot - no hot water. Given that the cups were small, we only managed to squeeze two cups each out before I had to, again, look for a waiter to get another pot of tea. When I poured it, it was so weak as to be almost colourless. When I stirred the pot, I found that there was only one tea bag in it. Considering the cost, a bit parsimonious. Normally, on an afternoon tea, we are asked whether we would like tea or coffee but not here. The food was tasty but there wasn’t a huge amount of it. We have had afternoon teas all over, including the fabulous Reid’s Palace in Funchal. This was slightly underwhelming.
