I booked with slight trepidation after reading some mixed reviews. Staying at Fionnphort or 2 nights with my wife to visit Iona & Staffa and as the trip coincided with my wife's birthday I booked the Ninth Wave as a treat. We both eat out regularly in Scotland and abroad and have been lucky enough to visit some Michelin starred places over the years. The service at Ninth Wave was slightly quirky but very pleasant and the dining room small but very relaxed. The quality of food served was beyond expectations and on a par with some Michelin starred establishments. The format is akin to a tasting menu with 3 or 4 smaller plates (#4 is dessert), cheese as an optional extra and coffee / petit fours included. We shared a decent bottle of white from an interesting list. I had scallops and wood pigeon while my wife had the mackerel and crab stuffed courgette blossom. We both chose the half lobster "main" course. the Pigeon was slightly tough but otherwise the food was faultless. The lobster was exceptional and so refreshing to see it on a menu without the usual pricing supplement. Fabulous evening - thank you Carla and John. We will visit again one day.

Visited this wonderful tea room having visited the area and read the reviews. Had a lovely cup of tea with the most amazing home made chocolate orange cake. There was a huge choice of cake available, I’m not sure how the lady remembered them all. We never looked at the lunch menu, but will next time we visit. All of the staff were really friendly. The lady did tell us that they don’t take cards but could take a bank transfer or cash. If visiting the area, a stop off is definitely recommended.

Although closed for the season, the Galleon Bistro reopened for just the one night of Hogmanay, with a special 6-course menu. The food on offer was good, but not ‘really special’. The main negative was that the portion sizes were simply too large, given that the food was quite rich, so we managed only one bottle of wine. This all meant that we left feeling a bit bloated and not quite sure if we could survive the ceilidh down the street! The meat eaters began with an amuse-bouche of grilled breaded brie, smoked fish pate and pigs in blanket, with a huge slice of chicken-liver parfait as starter, a celeriac soup ‘entremet’, a delicious main course of dry-aged beef with various sides, and a rich chocolate mousse infused with Baileys as dessert. All followed by petit fours of tablet, chocolate fudge and shortbread rounds, with tea and coffee. The Galleon also provided a vegetarian alternative with the same soup, dessert and petit fours, but a different starter, (pasta) main course and amuse-bouche. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting and the price, though steep, was reasonable. However, the invitation to add on extra at one’s discretion for service is really unwarranted for a small, family-run establishment and felt to us antiquated and even a bit embarrassing.

A fantastic blend of old meets new. My wife and I had a meal at this brilliant pub last night, and I can honestly say it was the nicest meal we had whilst in Scotland. My wife had the duck, which was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. For dessert, she had creme brule, which is normally her go-to dessert when we're out. When she'd finished, her comment was, "That was the best creme brule I've ever tasted!" I had the muscles as a starter. I'd never had muscles before and thought give them ago. I can't say I have anything to compare them to, but I thoroughly enjoyed them. My main was the venison pie with vegetables. Again, excellent. My only slight criticism would have been that the pie crust could have done with being slightly thicker. It disappeared quite quickly once I'd gotten to the gravy. My dessert was the rhubarb crumble with custard. Beautiful! The rhubarb was just tangy enough to get a good taste, but not so much that it was overpowering. Don't tell my Grandma, but it was better than hers! Friendly staff with a nice real fire to add to the cozy atmosphere. On the drinks front, maybe think about adding a non alcoholic cider. Given the location, driving to it was our only option from where we were unfortunately staying. Avoid a certain hotel on Loch Awe offering seemingly good deals at game fairs! There's a reason it's cheaper. However, to sum up The Kilcrenan Inn...Fantastic. For one three course meal, one 2 course meal, a glass of rose and a pint of orange juice and lemonade, it came to around £76. I thought this was pretty reasonable considering the great quality food. Well done. 👏👏👏

We met friends for brunch there this weekend. The cafe is very welcoming and the staff extremely friendly. The menu/specials sounded so exciting that we ordered 5 dishes between 4 of us - Brisket chilli with cauliflower rice, Prawn with avocado on a milk bun, and Huevos Rancheros. All of the dishes were absolutely fantastic and unusual. The coffee is also extremely good. We will definitely be back (and will no doubt become regulars!)

We came across Robin's Nest by chance and were greeted in a warm friendly manner. I am on a Dairy Free Diet and the menu catered for all my needs. When we ordered coffee we were given an alternative choice of milks. The cakes were home made and delicious. I would highly. recommend this tea room

The best meal I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely outstanding. We went here whilst on holiday to celebrate my partners birthday. We wanted a special meal and wow did we get it. The restaurant is beautiful and intimate and right in the heart of Oban so very easy to walk to. Sitting at the chefs table watching him cook and hearing about how he sourced ingredients and about the local area was lovely. The food was indescribable it was simply stunning. We are still talking about the venison and scallops a week later. If you want something a little bit different and special this is it. We will definitely be back.

Went here for my 30th birthday meal. Absolutely fantastic service and the food was outstanding. I have an Indian every year for my bday tradition and this was the best one I've had. Definitely worth a visit.
