The Lorne Bar in Argyll & Bute

What an absolute find. This place was amazing in every way. The staff are welcoming, friendly and so attentive. The food was out of this world. Would definitely recommend 100% and will be back. Just wish we had found it at the start of our holiday and not at the end

Great local restaurant/pub off the strip. We discovered Cullin Skank here and it ruined us for the rest of the trip in Scotland; we could not find it better anywhere. The service was great and personable and the y treated us like locals. Great find!

Der Fisch kommt täglich frisch vom Hafen/Fang, und sowohl die maritime Vorspeisenplatte als auch das Hauptgericht waren sehr zu empfehlen. Ich hatte als Hauptspeise die Hähnchenbrust mit dem berühmt-berüchtigten Haggis - extrem lecker, deutlich besser als sein Ruf, besser als von mir persönlich befürchtet. 🤣 Wirklich super!

Lovely place, great service and lovely food so no bad things to say about it.

Very nice atmosphere, friendly service, and incredibly delicious food at fair prices. The fish comes fresh from the harbor/catch every day, and both the maritime starter platter and the main course were highly recommended. I had chicken breast with the infamous haggis - extremely tasty, significantly better than its reputation and than feared. 🤣

Dog-friendly eatery. Ate delicious local mussels. Very friendly staff.

Nice night out. Just what we needed after the first week in Scotland. Approachable and delicious. Found it by walking Oban.

If you like to arrive for your booking and be ignored for 5 minutes before being acknowledged only to have a table pointed out to you from across the bar it's a great place. Also great if you want to be left to sit at your table for 40 minutes with still no acknowledgement from the staff or even a drink. I'd like to review the food but gave up in the end. Shocking service.

Good food let down by average service

This is not just a local pub but a haven of seasonal seafood and culinary delight. The hostess works hard to give everyone the attention they need whilst the bar and kitchen staff get on with doing what they do best in an unassuming style. Well priced. Fresh food. Great quality and very welcoming. Spent as much on wine as food but both of equal calibre.

One of the best pet friendly pubs we've been in with water bowls and biscuits to welcome the fur babies🐾. Great food, very reasonably priced, generous portions with amazing, friendly service 🙂

Went for food, everywhere was busy and queuing out the door, one street back from the front drag found this little gem, food was amazing and friendly chatty staff.

While traveling through Scotland we popped in after supper for an after dinner desert and drink(s). Wonderful atmosphere. Service was on point and the drinks and dessert were top notch. If we ever travel back to Oban we will stop in here again!

Went for a daytrip to Oban on Sept.19th. The Lorne Bar was recommended by a local. Service was very friendly,lunch was phenomenal and really good value for money. A lovely pint too. Will be back next time I'm in town.

Had the chicken burger and the haddock and potatoes. I would honestly give them 10/10 for the food.the guy who served us was absolutely amazing so well done..

Great vegetarian options! Reservations recommended, but if you go earlier, they usually squeeze you in.

Hands down the best mussels I’ve ever had!

Such a great find. The food is amazing, sorry, not many pictures, as we just wanted to tuck in, as soon as food arrived as they were smelling so delicious.. Special mention goes to The Highland chicken (with haggis), Steak and Ale pie and The Mac Lorne beef burger. Great service, cosy place, good beer garden. Do book in advance as it's always busy.

Some of the best fish and seafood I've ever eaten. Very wide choice of single malt whiskies. Cozy and characteristic environment

We were looking forward to trying this place. Nice inside. But if you are not friends with the woman working there you can forget getting any service. We arrived and got seated. But then friends of the waitress came in. Seated next to us. They got menus, we did not. They chatted for 5 minutes. Waitress comes back and gets their drink order. Then came back to bring their drinks, i tried to get her attention to gets menus, Nope. Then she comes back and takes their order. Still nothing for us. She goes and puts in their order and then stood at the back of the bar. So needless to say we left after 15 minutes and no menu.

My wife and I just had the most amazingly good dinner in this pub / restaurant. Excellent and friendly service and the food was superb. We are “foodies” and we understand / appreciate top quality. We had this tonight. Highly recommend this place.

Absolutely loved this bar. We popped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and the service was great. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we couldn't decide who got the best item. It was all good! Great beer and whisky selection as well.

Good food, friendly staff. Standard Scottish fare but they were only place in a week that had fish that wasn't fried and it was great. Others had steak pie which they liked and a Biscott cheesecake that was fantastic. Understaffed but they were very friendly.

Very nice food and lovely staff. Reasonable portions (not huge) , frozen chips and mash but the main dish was cooked very well. Actually the food isn't as good as previous visits but the pub is still a favourite place to visit while in oban.

Best fish and ships in town. By a mile!

We visited a few times for drinks, a pub quiz, and lunch. The staff are all very welcoming and helpful. The pub itself is tastefully decorated with some nice original features. The pub quiz on a Wednesday night was free, and the quiz master was quite amusing with a £25 prize and opportunity to win a bonus bottle of wine if you answered a bonus question correctly. The lunch we had was a parmesan crusted haddock with mash and mixed vegetables and was very light and perfectly cooked. It was also generously portioned. The small mussels were equally well executed with some fresh bread on the side. The meal was very reasonably priced. The pub is close to the town centre but quietly tucked away, so it is not inundated with locals or tourists. We noticed that they did call last orders a bit early. On one night, it was around 9:40 pm. However, we are not sure of local licensing rules/laws.

Went for our tea here tonight 24/7/24 , we called earlier to reserve a table as we were there the night before and it was booked out and we were told it's better to book and reserve , we were shown our table as soon as we were inside and our drinks order takes very quickly , we were given plenty time to make our choices from the menu , I Had the beer battered haddock and with chips and peas and the wife had the steak and ale pie , the fish was delicious, cooked perfectly the batter was nice and light just how I like it the chips and peas were also on point , The steak and ale pie was also delicious yes i had to have a taste , the wife said the beef was just melting in tour mouth and cooked perfectly also the mash was so creamy and lump free and the mixed veg was cooked to perfection , I would definitely recommend.end trying there if you are ever in Oban , the staff were very friendly and cheerful as well , 2 great meals for a really good price

Hands down, no contest, not even close, the best “chips” or as we in America correctly call them French fries I have ever eaten in my entire life and I am 50 years old. The perfect balance of a potato chip crunch on the outside and a light fluffy inside. What a great freakin’ French fry. Also, the scallops with risotto, cooked perfectly and the risotto had fantastic flavor. I may never come back to Scotland, but if I do, I am going here for French fries, in fact I may starting calling them chips because they call them that so I have probably been calling them by the wrong name my whole life because they were that good.

Don't be fooled, this is far more than a bar! My husband and I were traveling in Scotland with my 3 nephews ages 16 - 20. After playing golf at Royal Dornoch earlier in the day, we drove to and arrived in Oban about 7 pm on a Sunday evening without dinner reservations. We were so fortunate to happen upon Lorne Bar. Far from being just a bar, this restaurant is spacious but cozy, and offers excellent and diverse fare. We tried a large and varied selection of seafood, all of it was excellent. Not only that, but the staff was exceptionally attentive and friendly. We look most forward to returning!

The Lorne Bar has a circular wooden bar, with a polished brass rail and tall brass/glass lights. Brilliant atmosphere.The menu has local seafood and Scottish dishes and the food is very good. It's a good idea to reserve a table in the evening for a meal as it can get busy. There is an outdoor seating area. Highly recommended

Very friendly staff, good value, excellent food. The reason for the review is the king scallops I had here were the best I’ve had in my life - served with a superb risotto. Staff clearly take great pride in what they’re doing here. 10/10.

If you are in Oban and want a great meal and great service you have to come here! We had the steak pie and Parmesan crusted fish for our mains and they were large portions and absolutely fantastic! Do not skip this place! We will be coming back before we leave.

Visited 29 June. DW had the scallops (portion size was 6, and not the large variety). I had a disassembled steak and ale pie. Nothing outstanding.

Great food in a local pub setting.

A better place in Oban. We came here as it's one of the few places that promotes vegan food options and when we had confirmed they were happy to sort a lunchtime vgn item for us in the evening it was easy to live this place. Decent beers and friendly service. We would definitely recommend and return. Best to book

Visited 08/06/2024. Excellent service from the friendly staff and food to match. Can personally recommend the mussels and parmesan haddock , but all dishes that were bound for other customers looked delicious. A true gem in a traditional pub atmosphere not on the regular tourist trail. Find it and book!

Lovely tidy little pub. Did not have food , but looked delicious. Friendly place , dog friendly. It was a bit quiet when we were in , but it was early afternoon.

We were able to sit there with a drink. Then we had a delicious meal. We were 3 people and the bill was not very high. Had a great stay.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is rather dark but quaint. The vegetarian food (risotto) tasted very good, but unfortunately a bit lacking. The burger (with meat) was excellent and the quantity was just right. A delicious wine rounded the whole thing off. Just right after a day of hiking!

Staff was friendly but food was dire. Received one wrong order but as we didn't have much time, just accepted it. However, then got a mouthful of long hair in the dish! Staff was apologetic and comped but it was so gross, and the other dish wasn't good either, so we'll never go back. A shame as we used to love the food here.

We had a great meal here two years ago on our last visit to Oban. Unfortunately we did not repeat our experience as the place seemed to be understaffed with only two barmen and no waiting staff. We had booked a table for 7pm and finished up going to the bar ourselves for drinks and to get menus. After waiting in vain for 40 minutes for someone to take our orders we decided to walk out. The barman seemed surprised and apologised for the poor service then promptly whisked our table and chairs away for some unfortunate family that had come looking for a meal. Very poor, they should not accept reservations they cannot fulfill.

Excellent food, Brilliant service and great atmosphere. Best meal we had all week. Sort of in between a pub and a restaurant but it really works

We went to the Lorne Bar twice during our short stay in Oban. Why change when the staff is nice and the food is good? The meat was a bit overcooked the second time but it was still very good. The atmosphere is welcoming.

Dined here any time we're staying in Oban and never disappointed as the food and service is excellent. I use a wheelchair and it's easily accommodated next to the table we always book (number one) Good clean establishment and the staff are very pleasant and never seem to stop for a moment because the place is always busy when we're there which isn't surprising as it has a lovely atmosphere. We highly recommend visitors to Oban to give them a try

Another excellent meal from the team at the Lorne, Oban has many food venues but you won’t find a better team than the Lorne. Bar and waiting staff are always superb, food from kitchen is always to the highest standard, Oban might have many options but for me there is only 1 choice. Lorne Bar, thanks peeps 🐥

Very nice place (a little empty on a Thursday at 2 p.m.), very pleasant staff and very good food. Interesting price for lunch but the menu is reduced.

Absolute shocking went here for a lovely wee night after several HOURS travelling looking forward to some fresh seafood. Arrived to be told all seafood listed wasn't available apart from scallops. And were burnt to a crisp also frozen veg worst meal we complained discreetly n bar man was very rude we paid bill only to be asked for another £10 for the wine he forgot to charge AVOID AT ALL COSTS ESK on the waterfront we're amazing xxx

Attentive and friendly staff who couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. It was very dog friendly with the staff slipping our pooch a biscuit or two. There was a good range of drinks, especially local whiskeys and gins. They were running a limited menu when we visited but we were still able to find something we both liked. The food was delicious and took very little time to get served. Would highly recommend this pub especially as you might walk past it due to its location.

Efficient friendly staff. Delicious reasonably priced lunch, I had Mac cheese with chips and garlic bread and the Tunnocks Sundae, my husband had a Giant Yorkshire pudding with beef, followed by the Biscoff cheesecake, all food absolutely delicious. The bar is lovely and is dog friendly. I would highly recommend. I’ve eaten here on a number of occasions over the past three years and have never been disappointed!

Visited The Lorne Bar a few years ago after being recommended by a friend. First time was great having the langoustines, the revisit on the 3rd Jan 2024 was just as good. Only downside was that they did not have a couple of items on the menu but being the first week of the new year not an issue. Looking forward to revisited when back in Oban.

Ate here while I was away for work. Great menu, lots of veggie and vegan options. Food was great, and the staff were friendly. It is an old style pub with the bar in the middle. Decor is really nice with lots of drink options.

As always, great staff and friendly service. Went out of their way to accommodate 7 of us, with no notice on a very busy Saturday afternoon.

We went for tea yesterday, the food was amazing and although the pub was busy throughout our visit the service was fantastic. We would recommend the scallops and sea bass risotto, both brilliant! We would definitely recommend and will be revisiting!

Real gem of Oban and for so many great reasons! Popped in today for a lunch on Wednesday around 13:30 with my friend and immediately love the decor inside, bit too cold for the outdoor seating in late November but beautiful beer garden. The bar staff welcomed us warmly and was with us to take our orders within 5 mins and as quickly as possible. Food was with us quick and it was delicious! Definitely glad there's somewhere great in oban for vegan options too 😁 All in all a super great place with great people, food, drink and atmosphere, a true gem of Oban.

What has happened? A pub that was always stowed out the door is now empty. The decor hasn't changed the location hasn't changed. Must be the owner or the introduction of food. It's a pity potentially destined to fail. (I hope not). Please revive, so many great memories.

Love this place, great food and lovely folk. Cannot recommend highly enough, I don't have a dog but they allow dogs in and are always sooo sweet with them too.

A pub popular with locals with very decent cuisine, with several vegetarian options, and a wide variety of beers. The staff are very nice and super friendly, in line with the entire population (well, the entire Scotland)

The last time we visited Oban we went here and the food was great this time it started ok with sharing nachos we both got the chicken haggis dish unfortunately my wife chicken was not cooked raw in the middle the girl server was very apologetic and offered another option but we had to refuse maybe we were unlucky

this is a brilliant bar/restaurant. we went in for drinks one evening and the barman Adam was such a nice, friendly guy that we returned for dinner and drinks the next evening, the food and service were both exceptional, cannot wait for a return visit

My friend and I had dinner here while overnight in Oban. It's a couple of blocks east of the main road. Food was very good and pretty good service. I had the fish and chips which was quite nice, but not the best I have ever had. Nice pub and restaurant.

Went here for lunch, we had fish and chips and macaroni cheese; both dishes tasted great and were good value. Would recommend!

I never saw the meatballs.. And I never saw the macaroni and cheese...

Food and staff could not be faulted. We would recommend the Lorne to anyone. Nice portions and very well cooked. Well worth looking on trip advisor for reviews.
