Castle Isle Restaurant & Bar in Argyll & Bute

We were full of great expectations as the new menu was designed by a local chef. The roast beef was tough, the roast potatoes were overdone and the Yorkshire pudding was dry not a great plate of food. However the fish according to my wife was excellent however the triple cooked chips as per their on line menu turned out to be skinny fries. All in in all disappointing meal. It is such a pity that the chef who designed the menu did not prepare it. To cap it all the service was not good either.

Really nice small venue. Staff lovely and food good as well. The 4 stars is due to the WIFI never working which isn't a huge issue but shouldn't advertise it when we and most others we speak to can't get it. Would still recommend though 🙂

We received a takeaway of a chicken burger for me and my partner or flabbergasted to see two chicken burgers with chips came out in £19 when we then drove to eat our food in the car we established the chicken was so raw you could’ve got a defibrillator and brought it back to life Are used to have really high hopes for that restaurant and takeaway, but after what we received, I will not be returning. It was absolutely shocking. The chicken was so raw you probably wouldn’t even need a defibrillator you could see the pulse

Great family day out at Roseneath Caravan Park. Very safe, civilised place for families. Clean, well run park. Friendly helpful staff. Lots if parking. Fantastic views. Lively walks. A great day out and holiday venue.

Every Sunday the Bistro advertises Karaoke but this seldom happens as the organiser does not like Karaoke. Excuses like its broken or not enough people in the Bistro to put it on. We came out specifically for the Karaoke. There was 16 people in the bar waiting for Karaoke all willing to sing and it was off again. There was also residents in the bar. We where all saddened once again it was off. Why advertise this when it doesn't happen. Very poor service.

Lovely staff, not much of a menu food wise. Fairly limited choice on the selection of beers, everything else was as youd expect.

Nice pint but the fish and chips a bit expensive and not very tasty.

Take away food was truly awful. £7 for a burger that was simply served in a stale bun-no salad,garnish, sauce or nothing. £9 for a heated up frozen pizza. My suggestion is to avoid the take away bit, truly awful experience.

Bar staff are great, food is very hit and miss sadly.

Have eaten here several times since August. The roast dinner was large unfortunately the first time I was late and the beef was tough but myself and family have enjoyed this meal at other times. The steak pie is delicious as is the fish and chips. Prices have recently gone up but still reasonably. Tables are cleared and cleaned immediately they become free. All staff are very efficient.

Food was basic pub grub, we opted for steak and ale pie (made from award winning recipe) and the (butchers) sausages & mash. The steak pie was nice although pretty standard, I wouldn’t have said award winning however it was tasty. The sausages were nice however the mash was full of very large lumps which was disappointing. The decor is very dark, in much need of a refurb as it looks very dated. Overall was okay to stop in for a quick meal while on the caravan site, prices very reasonable and staff attentive. They also do take out.

The Castle Island Restaurant is Ok. The food is not as good because its frozen. They can improve by making there food homemade

Ate here and the food was good basic pub food at a reasonable price but the interior design is grim! It’s dark and depressing, black tables and chairs, dark green ceiling and very low lighting, accompanied by the tv. Now everyone wants to see soaps!

Had a great weekend at the holiday park from the 23rd of August. We ate here a few times and were very happy with the food. We had absolutely no complaints. And always served my lovely friendly staff. Highly recommend.

We haven’t been to Castle Isle for over a year & popped in for an impromptu lunch. The welcome was warm & the food freshly prepared & tasty. I only shy away from 5th star because my Caesar salad had a bit too much dressing on it. We’ll be sure to go back (in less than a year next time).

Decent pub in a great location with fabulous views. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food we had was really nice (fish and chips !) Good entertainment during week including bingo, quiz and at the weekend, a singer. Well worth a visit !

Poor food, haddock and chips were bland, house burger had chewy bun with watery cheese... Terrible food

On a visit here 25 years ago this place has not changed a bit it was if your stepping back. The food was good but the only thing was the dead flies on the window sills and the tables wasn't cleaned properly with a clean cloth still had the streeks all over the tables as i said the food was good and the staff where friendly but the restaurant could be brought up to present day standards ie a coat of paint and a new carpets and dineing funiture bistro its not

Great food,friendly atmosphere. It is situated in a beautiful caravan site which is well maintained. There's a terrific play area for kids and opportunity to try out water sports

Used to live in the area, went for a visit with friends, I found that the food had gone down hill from when I used to visit in the past. We all had the baguettes, the coleslaw was the only nice thing on the plate, the baguettes we had had clearly been warmed in the microwave, they were dry and hard as was the chicken and bacon filling, the Doritos did nothing for the plate of food, we all said we would not return.

Mi familia y yo alquilamos una caravana por una semana. Comer una vez en el Bistro. Qué reír llamando un bistro. La comida no era nada más que la comida se calienta como todo estaba congelado sin comida fresca y muy caro. Pastel de carne (congelado) era casi 10 libras, nunca comí allí

Couldn't find the way in due to poor signage during building work. Bland, disappointing food. Staff non-committal and bill wrongly calculated. Wish I could recommend this place but I just can't. :-(

Excellent food and service, home cooked and simple just what we wanted. Haggis balls were great and the prawns looked amazing.

Read previous reviews and decided to go after many years away, what has changed is not a lot,mediocre meals and a couple of staff changes ,manager of site is beyond arrogant and unhelpful

El personal es muy servicial y la comida es deliciosa. Hace un cambio para un parque de vacaciones para tener comida preparada fresca todos los días. Todos a muchos optar por comodidad sobre la calidad. Pero es la calidad de la que me mantiene regresando.

We use the Castle Isle bar and restaurant often and always enjoy it. Recently the menu has improved with a good selection of specials on offer too. Very good food and reasonably priced. Always a friendly welcome.

Very friend!y staff, Dad had simple omelette with salad and chips, Lynn had home made steak pie with new potatoes and fresh vegetables, I had a huge bowl of fresh local mussels with a delicious creamy sauce mopped up with warm fresh bread. Prices are very reasonable.

We ate here as two families consisting of 4 adults,3 infants and a baby. Menus catered for all wants and needs. Food was of a good quality with good potions.Children were able to make use of nearby soft play and park areas nearby.

Unfortunately only a carvery is available on a Sunday - a bit disappointing as a lovely menu used to be available . We were very disappointed in the carvery - we felt the meat was a bit dried out and not much selection for children apart from macaroni or hotdogs. The pork chops on offer were inedible . We were here last year when the menu was on offer and the food was excellent - what a difference a year makes.

The bar is great, bar staff and entertainers were amazing. Large enough to have fun, small enough to be intimate. There are 2 bars, The large one is the family bar, and at night the small bar is adults only. There are theme nights at the weekends. Food was 5 star as was the service. It caters for all ages. Very , Very impressed.

Been going here for 10 years and have never been dissapointed. Carvery on Fathers day was really good if a little pricey.

Nice place to sit &have a pleasant repast.New fire is a great improvement & menu has improved.Love the 2 separate seating areas.If they only allowed dogs, we would go much more often.

Been here quite a few times when we stay at the caravan site. Never had a bad meal good wholesome food and lovely staff. The macaroni cheese was very tasty as was all the dishes I have tried. Nice relaxed atmosphere and everyone was very friendly. Can't fault any of it. If you are looking for good homemade traditional food this is excellent .

We didn't have a meal here just a relaxing drink in the lounge. When you first go in to the main areathis is where meals are served. Just through the double doors is a lounge area Staff are very friendly. Fruit cider and pint of Guinness just under £8. Nice to unwind after long day of sight seeing where

Had a great meal, served in good time in spite of a busy day. Waitress Kelly was brilliant and the price very agreeable. I had the steak pie from the local award winning butcher - very tasty, as good as it looked.

We visited the bistro this evening and what an enjoyable time had by all. Nice relaxed, friendly atmosphere and the staff were really nice. The food was delish & for the first time in a long time we had 6 clear plates. I tried a bit of everyone's & the burgers, homemade goujons and macaroni were fab but best of all was their homemade lasagne..probably best I have tasted in a while. Very reasonably priced & kids ate for free. We would definitely return here on our next visit.

The food at the Castle Isle is good, honest grub. It will never win any Michelin stars but then it's not trying to. What makes this place is the service and hospitality from every one of the amazing staff. They're hard working, always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Often they go unrecognised or unrewarded but they are one of the most valuable assets of both the restaurant and caravan park as a whole. So do try the place out if you're in the area and I guarantee you'll have a nice time.

The restaurant provides a range of popular dishes which are good value and well presented. Children are welcome and have a special menu. Worth a visit.

A wonderfully scenic drive takes you to this bistro, situated in the grounds of the extensive Rosneath Castle caravan Park. Food of excellent quality and good value. Staff friendly and helpful. Panoramic views of the head of the Gare Loch from the Bistro windows. Strongly recommended,

I love coming here for my lunch and today as it was so nice dad and I visited for lunch after a nice drive. Food is good and caters for all. The staff are really friendly, polite and so nice. Food was excellent and plentiful, great service, lovely atmosphere and stunning views. Price wise very good. Love coming here and will continue to do so.

As it's off the main drive it's easy to miss the Bistro unless you are visiting the caravan park, but it's well worth a visit. Reasonably priced food, a varied menu & friendly service. Nice & spacious, lovely views. Food has been lovely each time we have been there. Also has a good weekend entertainment in the evenings during the summer season.

We came to the Castle Isle around 7pm one Saturday evening and we were greeted with an incredibly friendly welcome. Recommended by the owner of the B&B we were staying in I can see why. Good value, good quality pub grub - great with little children. We were so pleased, we revisited Castle Isle a couple of evenings later with one sleeping child and one excited full of it child (just been to Commonwealth gymnastics child). The staff could not do enough for us and were incredibly accommodating. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a relaxed family environment and good pub grub.

This has changed hands a few times in the few years my parents have had a van on the site.I went back for the first time in years and ordered drinks, then asked for a menu at the bar.The menu is pretty decent for a small caravan site, with the usual pub affair on offer at decent prices.I went for a ham and onion omelette with chips and my girlfriend got a baked potato and cheese with a side of coleslaw. My meal was very nice and the chips were excellent (no longer a small position in a silly basket). Girlfriend enjoyed her BP, and the side of coleslaw was pretty big.Good service and we stayed for a few drinks waiting for the rain to die down. Very good pint of Tennents too

Any time we stay at the caravan park we eat here and enjoy the food, nothing fancy just good honest food. It saves you having to cook but that is not the only reason for going, the menu caters for all tastes.

The Castle Isle is always worth a visit good food friendly staff, children made welcome too cannot fault this place well worth the visit!The caravan site where the Castle Isle is situated is a very well run site has no trouble or problems very scenic with plenty to do

We seldom cook when at caravan now. Menu has got better & better, and there's something for everyone. Good prices, nice friendly staff, makes it a holiday for all of us if no one has dishes to do :0)

Living in rosneath we use the bistro quite often for a bite to eat or simply a drink ! When family come we hire 1 of the vans and they love to eat here. They cater for everyone so if its a snack you want or a 3 course meal then no problem ! They have recently brought out a new menu which I have to say is 1 of the better menus over the years with local produce being used !! They serve your local variety of pub grub to a wide choice of different burger meals with an average price of between 6 & 7 pound ! They also have a lunch time special offering soup and choice of sandwich for £5. If staying in a caravan and can't be bothered cooking they also have a carry out menu ! The staff working here are very good and have a pleasant manner esp heather and chris !! If your passing by or staying on site I would definitely recommend popping in.

Had a lovely meal there last night (11 Aug 2012) - the steak pie is gorgeous loads of meat sourced from a local butcher.Service was excellent and nothing was a bother to them good to feel welcomed. Great change in menu, if you are a local come go and have a look.

We really enjoyed the 1.5 mile walk to here from the Easter Garth Guest House in Rosneath. It was my first taste of real Scottish food, and it was delicious! The service was wonderful and so very friendly. Excellent little restaurant/bar.
