Seated promptly and then promptly ignored at our table for at least 10 mins. Had to prompt someone to serve us. Coffee and cake was ok, lemon drizzle was meh! Over and done with in less time we waited to be served. A lovely place mind you and servers were nice, but style over substance. Unlikely to be back.

I took my parents here for their Diamond wedding anniversary yesterday. We choose the venue because of its location for this special occasion. We are seated promptly and drinks order taken. The starters arrived quickly. When the mains arrived they said to watch the plates were hot but the food was stone cold ! This was returned and obviously been blasted in microwave to warm it up. The burger was so dry it just crumbled to bits. No one came to ask if the food was OK or if we needed any more drinks given our glasses were all empty. We had to shout to a passing waiter to take a drinks order. We sat with our finished mains for another 25 minutes before we had to ask anither waiter if they could clear the table and bring desert menus. Well after waiting for another 20 minutes for them to come take our order we decided to leave. I had to ask at the bar for our bill and when I told them how disappointing the service and food had been , he simply said oh sorry bout that and carried on to take the payment. That is when I asked to speak to the manager , who turned out to be the waiter whom we had to ask to clear the table for us. He listened as I repeated my concerns to him and his reply was ."what do you want me to do about it !! " He continued , it's because of the weather , we only had 20 people booked for lunch but more people had walked in ... When I told him I did not appreciate his lack of an apology or acceptance as a "manager " he took the bill and refunded the food that we had sent back. I felt totally disappointed in both service and food and it completely ruined what should have been a memorable day. I would recommend people to give this place a miss and go next door to Cameron House.

Nice features and fittings, which we, and the 6 tables around us admired ,for the 15 minutes that no one came to take drink or food orders, or indeed to deliver food. To anyone. In a restaurant 25 % full. We left- not that the nonexistent staff noticed. And went to the Commodore Hotel , Helensburgh. Warm; seated promptly; drink and food orders taken quickly. nice food; all served by a smartly dressed ,friendly staff. Duck Bay should just close. Owner clearly not interested. Not even there. Not enough staff. And the clueless staff they have not fit for purpose. Avoid.

We've always used the Duck bay when in Scotland, mainly due to its location.. always loved it.. Today.. the service was disappointing..the staff seemed uninterested/ definitely not motivated.. I asked for an extra hot oat latte.... after quite a wait. I couldn't be bothered returning the luke warm drink. The lemon meringue was most definitely shop bought ( the cakes used to be fabulous) it was dry & tasteless.. The server never once asked if everyone was okay.. even when paying... Should I have said something? probably... won't recommend it anymore... very disappointing...

Called in here for lunch whilst on holiday. Got seated straight away. We did have a bit of a wait to get served once at the table, but there had been a large influx of customers. Chicken liver pate for starters was really good. My partner had a seafood linguine, which she loved. I had beef lasagne, which I loved. Cracking food with cracking views. Would definitely return.

Stopped off one Saturday in February to show friends from Cyprus around the loch. We thought we’d stop into hotel to cafe area for tea and cake before driving back to Glasgow, 20 min we stood waiting, there were 3 empty tables but the staff had not cleared the rubbish from previous customers. I asked elderly lady at cake counter how much longer we would have to wait to be told don’t know still have 5 orders for customers to do. Needless to say we left and took our custom elsewhere. It was a tad embarrassing as my friends from Cyprus own a restaurant! Need to do better turn around in cafe area.

The starters were really incredible!! And the mains were really enjoyable as well. But it's the little things that would make me think twice about returning... £6 for steamed broccoli that was just like mush or £3.80 for a small btl of soft drink.. The food itself is amazing and I never begrudge paying a bit more for quality food but it's those smaller things that just make me think twice.

1st wedding anniversary dinner and could not be more disappointed. I wasn't expecting anything free, but a nice table would have been nice. Stuck in between 2 tables with screaming kids and facing a wall. My chicken and haggis was so dry, I couldn't eat it. They did take this off the bill, but I did leave after eating only half the meal. Way over priced for what we both had. Live close by and would not recommend. Why ask if for a special occasion and not even mention it or even give a nice table. Customer service was terrible. Update- they have now blocked me on facebook after posting this review!

Always like to support hard working folk in hospitality here, but no tip at the end of this meal, here's why... Sat in a corner of the restaurant with no view. Have came here repeatedly. Prawn cocktails came out immediately. Had been sitting out, sauce congealed and didn't taste fresh. Asked three times for drinks, repeatedly told 'we'll send someone over.' 50 mins later plates cleared from starters. Asked twice for mains. Kids pasta overcooked and heatlampled hard. Taken off bill. Cheese on burger was horrible, again, sat under a heatlamp too long. Restaurant may say... 'bring to our attention at the time'.... However... No manager walking the floor, no checkbacks and having to keep asking for basic things. Amateurs. Won't be back, shame that tourists think this is acceptable quality in Scotland. Service was laughable. Don't give two ducks for this place.

Had my Wife’s 60th birthday meal in the restaurant at Duck Bay then surprised my wife with an overnight stay in the hotel. There were 19 of us including 4 children under the age of 7. The staff were absolutely brilliant. Very attentive and friendly. The service was excellent and everyone agreed that the food was top notch. The room in the hotel was excellent. Clean and comfortable. Before we went up to our room to retire. The manager that looked after our table told us to set our alarm for sunrise, which we did. See video. Excellent recommendation. While saying that the service was excellent and you are made aware of how hard and long the staff work, manager was doing a 14 hour shift and the restaurant had over 275 covers for lunch that day. They still did excellent work. I applaud you all. Only niggle would be the booking of the restaurant. You have to request a booking for a certain amount of people then wait for head office to approve or deny your request. Pure faff. As I said just a niggle.

Reminiscing here today (Jan 2025) on a visit from Australia. I came here many a Sat night and danced outside by the Loch with friends, travelling in convoy down from Clydebank. This was the place to be in the late 80's early 90's. Situated on the banks of Bonnie Loch Lomond with views across the Loch of Ben Lomond ⛰️ the location is ideal for lunch dinner or an overnight stay 🍽 It is where the Highlands meet the Lowlands and a 30 minute drive from Glasgow. The Xmas decorations are incredible 😲 There is a separate Gluten Free menu. All rooms have views of either the Loch or the Arden Hills and range in price from £100 for a double to £250 for a family suite🛌 So nice to bring my children here and show them the beauty of Loch Lomond and 'The Duck Bay'🦆 You haven't lost your charm 🇦🇺

I had a meal here for my partners birthday in September 2024. We were very impressed. We enjoyed a lovely walk to Duck Bay, via the loch. It id a very beautiful location and we look forward to returning in the summer in order to sit outside on the generous patio are just by the water. We had two courses and wine and were very impressed by the service, staff were very polite and kind. The food was beautifully presented and the portions generous. The salmon dish my partner had was especially outstanding. The wine and drinks list in general was very good too. We stayed on after our meal and had a drink in the bar area. Both there and the restaurant, the seating was comfy, the space warm and lighting very nice. Lots of options of tables and chairs, the restaurant and bar had many tables but the noise level was never a problem. All in all, it is a really beautiful place and my favourite restaurant of 2024.

Writing on behalf of my mum and aunties. My mum and 3 aunties went here for a birthday/ family reunion , they wants somewhere special as for 2 of my aunties they have been to Scotland for over 15years. The review will be short and sweet The location and restaurant great The food was nice The staff great except for the waitress The waitress was the most unprofessional and rude they had ever encountered. From the moment they were seated to the moment they left they were made to feel uncomfortable, stared at , muttered under the breath and faces pulled. Now I'm hoping it's because she was having a bad day and NOT because one auntie was wearing a headscarf and were persons of colour. If one of the party said it then we can maybe shrug it off but if all ,4 of them said the same thing then unfortunately there needs to be a conversation had with the waitress. Very disappointed in such an iconic establishment allowing this to spoil what should have been a lovely family memory

Nice food, but sneaky sales and poor hotel. The hotel rooms are very small, the sofa beds are uncomfortable, unstable and not suitable for small children as they have large gaps. There is no lounge or common areas in the hotel and absolutely not family friendly. Myself, my husband and 2 year old daughter checked out of room 31, on a DBB basis. The main issue we have is about the DBB package. When presented with the bill, we were confused to see a charge for my daughter's meal. I've went back, checked the website and my booking and there is no indication that my daughter's meal was not included in the price of the stay. We stayed in a family room and paid extra for my daughter. At the restaurant last night and checking out, the attitude of the staff was disappointing. We were informed, 'we don't get many families here', indicating to us that children aren't really catered for. The issue that we have is that there was no indication that we would have to pay extra for my daughter or that all paid room occupants are not included in the deal. I've emailed and only received dismissive and disappointing responses. Go next door to Cameron House, it can be more expensive but miles better by every standard.

Attended New Years Day. Firstly be aware that due to flooding parking is limited and at night it is very dark. Waited 40 minutes for food order to be taken. Ordered chicken pate which was solid, not served with toasted brioche as on menu but 2 hard bits of melba toast and lettuce. Main meal was Scampi with skinny fries. There was more batter than scampi and the fries were hard and looked reheated. Slow cooked Beef Ragu was okay but it looked and tasted like tinned steak. Desserts - cheesecake dry but the meringues are lovely. There are no specials on the menu and the menu has too many different burgers on it. We were here in March for a meal and we could not fault it but this time we were so disappointed and would not rush back. Apparently they have changed chefs and maybe this is the problem?? Overpriced for poor quality food and I have eaten much nicer bar meals at half the price elsewhere. On a positive note the staff are very friendly.

The only positive comment I can make is that the front of house staff member was very good. Perhaps the restaurant should spend more money on decent chefs rather than Christmas decorations! Our reservation was for 6 and we had left before 7. That’s how quickly the food was fired out! Scallops were very over done. The pork belly and sticky rice (dry as opposed to sticky) tasted like it was out of a packet and bottle. My so-called seafood platter consisted of over cooked tasteless fish and scallops, lukewarm warm vegetables and some sort of yellow sauce drizzled over the top. Massively disappointing doesn’t even cover it. We will not be back.

My wife and I mentioned when asked how our stay was, that the bed was hard and we never slept well, her reply was that's a standard room. So by that statement she was insinuating that the beds were better if we had paid more, not what I wanted to hear. Is this your policy (pay more and you'll get a better bed) I would think for the money you pay all beds should be of a good standard throughout the hotel

On Saturday it was our last night at Loch Lomond and wanted to eat somewhere that offered a range of fish. That meant we booked a table a Duck Bay as nowhere else offers as much choice of fish as they do in the locality. Having spent a week at Loch Lomond every year for the past 25 we have eaten countless times at Duck Bay and have yet to be disappointed. Saturday night was no exception, fabulous food and impeccable service. I had the Tuscan fish stew and my wife had salmon . Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. I am coeliac ( gluten free) and the list of different dishes available on the gluten free menu is very impressive and is an example to others in the catering industry. Well done Duck Bay !

We arrived without booking after a walk and swim in the loch which was fabulous. My husband and I and my daughter, 9 month old grandson and our dog. We had to sit outside as we had the dog, which we understood but there was no cover at all over the tables and it was raining. The rain was very light but it still would have made any food or drinks soggy! My Grandson stayed in the pram with its hood up. We were not approached by anyone. My daughter had to go and ask for a menu and had to wait for them while three members of staff discussed someone who had phoned in sick. When she finally got the menus she asked if the sandwiches could be toasted, to allow us to have something warm, and was told no, so cold sandwiches or nothing for us. After weighing up what we could have and how we would manage to eat it, we decided against it and left. Service appalling & hardly dog friendly as advertised. We felt as if we were treated as 2nd class customers as we had the dog and had to sit outside in the rain.

We have visited Duck Bay Hotel many times over the years and enjoy taking friends/family, especially those that haven’t been before. We have a holiday home in the area and are frequent visitors. Friday was a great day weather wise so it was a perfect setting for an evening meal with the view out over the Loch. Food was good as ever. We each had different things and agreed that all was good. Service was a wee bit slow between starter cleanup and mains being served. Think the food had been sitting under heat lamps a wee bit too long as my main had lost a bit of freshness, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment. Have found this a few time at Duck Bay. May mention it the next time we are back. We didn’t have sweets or tea/coffee this time, only because we had stuff ourselves back at our place. Would defo recommend Duck Bay for a good meal out.

I have been twice this month due to family celebrations, the first time the food wasn’t great but I thought I’d just ordered the wrong thing and let it go. Being a restaurant beside the water, you'd expect the fish and chips to be at least half decent. That's not the case with the fish and chips at Duck Bay. For £18.95, the flesh of the fish was quite thin, the majority was covered in bubbly batter. The ratio would be 20% fish, 80% batter. The chips were also oily and soggy. Will not recommend the fish and chips here, but other things like Sherperds pie look decent. Service was 5/5, though, lovely smile from waiter and was very attentive.

Stopped off for something to eat and had fish n chips, I have to say it was the worst ever, undercooked chips and fish that seemed to have been cooked and sat on a hot plate for quite some time, for the food alone I would not recommend this place. That said it is in a Fantastic location and the staff were nice.

TLDR; So...it's worth walking there if you're staying near by. The food is mostly good. But the service is really painful... Went to the restaurant twice because we were staying at the Lomond Castle up the way and it was a 15minute walk. We made reservations but they weren't needed... we went around 6pm both nights and it was not full. The look out onto the Loch is beautiful. It's location is great. But on these nice sunny days we were there, the surrounding area was VERY busy with tourists, locals - all camping, having picnics, on the beach - it was actually obnoxiously busy on the outside. More calm on the inside of the restaurant. Tastefully and appropriately decorated. We enjoyed that. The service is really terrible... I don't understand why each table needs like 4 waiters/waitresses - one to sit you, one for drinks, one to take order, another to bring food and any random person will bring you the bill. It's really terrible. And they don't make eye contact with you so you can't even get their attention to ask for help - was trying to flag someone down for 10minutes before having to get up and go to a guy standing at the bar just to get water for our table. I agree with comments that the wait staff are inexperienced. A girl cleaned a table next to us and sprayed her table cleaner all over me while spraying the table. I mean..cmon. The menu had lots of interesting items though... the best things we had: crispy tempura chicken and crispy duck salad were amazing. Wagyu beef burger was dry and needed salt and flavour. Ox cheek was interested but not amazing. There is a great kids menu - our toddler had the burger (very bland) and the bangers and mash which he enjoyed.

The place is very nice for photographing and drinking coffee only, but the service is bad and slow, and one of the dishes that were ordered had a hand hair in it..

This place has always had the advantage of a beautiful location. Shame the service does not match the location. Picture shows the “chunky” chips 🍟 option with our fish and chips. £18.95 for a fish supper. Complained to the manager and gave no discounts. Was just happy with the poor customer service. Again comes down to the great location. Complacent and absent management.

This restaurant is so beautifully located right on the Loch. I came in here myself to have a decompression dinner at the end of the week. The food was delicious! I opted for the Prawn and Chicken tempura for starter which was totally gorgeous. For my main, I had the Wagyu burger. The burger to my taste was slightly overcooked especially for the grade of meat! But it was still very appetising and went down a treat. Service was generally very good, it was very busy so things were quite slow and I did have to reorder a drink twice. However, this didn’t detract from the wonderful experience as I had more time to admire the views. Huge props for having a draught non-alcoholic beer! Will certainly be back.

Food was lovely and well priced. 2 courses for the price of 1. I got soup to start which tasted homemade, a hot roll and butter which was lovely. My main was tempore haddock and chips with peas and tartare sauce which was absolutely gorgeous tbh. Well impressed. My husband had chicken strips in spicy sauce to start and a burger with skinny fries and coleslaw which he really enjoyed. My son had chicken strips and fries for his main, his dessert was brownie and ice cream - from the kids menu as he is 9. My son's dessert was forgotten about for over half an hour but he got it eventually when I reminded the server; they were busy so I can't feel too annoyed. Lovely restaurant. Would eat there again.

Lovely cosy and warm room with a double and a single bed!! Bathroom was great and even had a bath but was really cold though with no heater. There was a good selection of tea and coffee provided, however the milk was very out of date. Some of it was cheese!! Would maybe be better with a small jug of fresh milk.

The view is outstanding! ...and the hotel and restaurant are certainly (and rightly) the best in town. We only visited the restaurant and the lounges. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't impress me: the menu is interesting and varied, the meal (spiced couscous with fish) was tasty, but unfortunately greasier than necessary. The service seemed a bit helpless and insecure. The ambiance is certainly beautiful thanks to the great view, but the decor is quite simple. I would still recommend a lunch visit to the Western Isles Conservatory to everyone.

A great place with a superb view of Loch Lomond. The dishes are well-prepared and tasty at reasonable prices, considering the location. Friendly service.
