The best restaurants in United Kingdom serving British food

I’ve had several meals here and never been disappointed but on this lunchtime it was disappointing. Beef casserole was dry and the presentation was dreadful. Mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and then dried beef casserole dumped on top….it was so unattractive and no red wine jus. Left most of it. Hopefully next visit will be back to the usual standard as the restaurant won’t be full of lady golfers eating Christmas dinner.

Fantastic establishment, me and my family go all the time and the hard work the team are putting in really shows. The pub has gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months

My husband and I were visiting the antique centre and popped in to the restaurant for lunch, as usual. My husband always has a main meal and a cake and I usually just have their lentil soup, which is absolutely delicious and a cake. Today I decided to have my soup followed by sponge and custard.- I actually have had the sponge and custard before and thoroughly enjoyed it, however the last time I had a terrible time actually trying to get them to bring it to my table (my husband's cake had been demolished a while before I had to remind them - 3 times). Today I decided to risk having it again and the same thing happened. They actually denied that I had even ordered it. My husband spoke to the manager and he said he would 'sort it out'. Eventually, after waiting a completely unacceptable time, an assistant came and placed it, none too gently, on the table. We were expecting at least an apology from the manager but none came. On the way out we signalled for the manager to come and speak to us, which he did. However he acted as if he didn't know what we were talking about, even though he had spoken to my husband earlier. We voiced our displeasure of the poor service and all he said was "I'll pass this on to the staff". We won't be eating at the restaurant again due to the 2 incidents with the sponge and custard and the attitude of the manager

This cafe is closed now. It is either up for sale, or already sold. I served superb food and staff were friendly and attentive; although the lower area was badly in need of a makeover.

Went for Christmas Dinner and dancing the meal was the worst that any of us had ever had the roast potatoes were so bad that you could not get a knife into them all dried up as was some of the veg .music was so loud we had to leave early

Great local pub. Bar person Natalie is friendly and welcoming, offers a great experience. Food is home cooked traditional “pub grub” cooked fresh to order.

Tuvimos la experiencia más encantadora en este café! Desde el momento en que llegamos, nos recibieron con una cálida bienvenida que nos hizo sentir como en casa. El personal era increíblemente servicial, incluso nos permitió probar diferentes sabores de helado antes de hacer nuestra elección. Hicieron tanto alboroto por mis hijos, que fue muy conmovedor. Mi hijo de 7 años incluso comentó: "¡Creo que este es el mejor café en el que he estado! " El café con leche estaba delicioso, y el pastel era simplemente divino! La variedad de sabores de helados era impresionante, y había algo para todos. Recomiendo encarecidamente esta joya de un café para cualquiera que busque un gran servicio y deliciosas delicias.

Este es uno de esos pubs a los que te atraen y siempre intento venir cuando estoy en la ciudad. Aunque en el centro de Reading el exterior sencillo probablemente no llame la atención de los transeúntes. Visitado un sábado por la tarde con un grupo de amigos y siempre es interesante echar un vistazo a la selección de cerveza, tanto en grifo como embotellada, antes de decidir qué probar. El área del bar es bastante pequeña, con paredes y techo cubiertos de colchonetas de cerveza, pero hay algunos "apretados" en el pasillo trasero. Hay un área al frente con un par de bancos tipo picnic, un lugar agradable para sentarse cuando el clima es propicio. No se sirve comida, pero noto que tienen huevos encurtidos y patatas fritas!

Went for breakfast as we were staying in the travelodge which is practically next door... We googled the opening times and seen that it was open at 10am but it was actually open from 9am. It would be a good idea to have the opening times on the window to save any confusion. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast and at £4.95 I was expecting a vegetarian sausage at least but I got 1 egg, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast. My partner ordered the medium sized breakfast and he was looking forward to the fried bread...but when it arrived it was buried underneath tomatoes so it was totally soggy...both breakfasts looked like everything had just been thrown on the plate and different juices were swimming into each other which I don't like. Both breakfasts tasted ok but I think presentation needs to be looked at. The lady serving was friendly.

We ate here whilst staying at the hotel. It was during a Wedding Reception. We were warned ahead of time that there may be a delay in the food arriving. However we felt that there was no perceptible delay. The food we ate was delicious! The Staff were very friendly and approachable.

Our large family wanted somewhere for Sunday lunch. The publican accommodated us at short notice. We were made very welcome. The Sunday roast was very generous size portions. We had a wonderful dinner and would definitely come back. The pub is very clean and friendly and on our doorstep.

If you are in the area, just DO NOT THINK OF STOPPING at the Forge. The prices are HIGH and the food is diabolical. The big “turn off” was when I arrived at 13.00 the approx. 80 seater restaurant was empty. Where on earth the chef came from does not contemplate thinking about Do yourself a favour PASS and save yourself a lot of money.

Went for Sunday Lunch last week 8th Oct , excellent food service great Sunday lunch we believe this was a the first time the chef had taken the kitchen would recommend .

Hardly ever get around to writing reviews but had to give credit to Tony and the team as I thought they were so helpful and lovely and we had such a great family lunch there. We were a large party of 16 and it was my elderly aunt's birthday and they accommodated us at relatively short notice in a private dining room and also provided a little birthday candle pudding for my aunt. The food was great and the service excellent. Can't wait to go back in the summer and check out the lovely courtyard.

Woogies are now based at The Carew Arms, Antony. Went for a family meal on Christmas Day. The service was excellent. Staff very attentive and the food was delicious (out of this world). The portions were very large. We couldn’t eat it all so took the dessert and cheeseboard home. Very accommodating with vegan options. Planning to book up for next year and try one of their steak nights.
