Quick overnight here during a recent roadtrip. Could not have been happier with the accommodations, staff, and pub. The parking was very tight, but the staff was more than accommodating for our timing needs. Dinner at the pub, and the breakfast were simple fare, but wonderful in quality. Highly recommend! But bring a small car if you’re parking in their car park .

This lovely pub has been ruined by the current landlord. He's turned the car park into a live music venue and stuck 2 fingers up to the local community with very loud music. Never thought I would be happy to see so much rain keeping the live music away.

Lovely food , especially the veggie Sunday lunches . Bought friends to the pub from a distance away , they loved the food and the pub , the only complaint was we were cold . I did ask the staff and they turned on the rad so it was sorted. Have booked to go again next Sunday .

So I like this pub, nice clientele, great NZ sauv blanc but why oh why never any heating. This isn't a one off, been coming here for years and always freezing. Every damn year. Told the 3 out of 5 radiators come on from a timer. So folks be warned its freezing until 7pm then just about warming up by 9pm. By 11pm assume its just about bearable.

Firstly this is a lovely pub on a lovely setting. Superb interior and exterior, very welcoming staff but you do pay for the experience. 1 lager, half pint of real ale and a bag of scratchings -£13.50. Seriously nice pub but prices a touch high.

A nice friendly pub serving decent ale with table service..so sad, let down badly by the gents toilets. The toilet floor was awash with urine and the stench overpowering. I bought it to the attention of the bar staff who were apologetic.

I was planning a Sunday out so called on the Saturday to book a table for a meal the following day. I was told the latest I could book was 4.45pm so I accepted the time and booked the table for 2 leaving my name and number.Following day I cut my day out short & rushed to get out of West Mids Safari Park and over to the Black Boy intake for the booking. When I arrived I was told they had run out of food and don't take bookings for a Sunday after about 3pm cos they always run out of food. Well they took my booking and signs in & outside the pub say Sundays for served 1-5pm!!!! Try finding somewhere else to walk in & eat on an August Sunday in Bewdley. Chips by the river in the rain instead then, would recommend doing that over booking here.

Four of us adults went to the Black Boy today for Sunday lunch. When I rang to book I was told the kitchen had been closed for a while and a new chef was starting on 21/12. The food was excellent, not only delicious but beautifully presented. First class service. Friendly hosts, we were even offered a table to sit at in the bar (without buying more drinks) as they needed our table in the restaurant. Excellent value for money, fascinating, warm attractive old hostelry with real log fire. Can thoroughly recommend. Does bar food too.

We had our wedding reception here on 10th August, 2019. John & Cath the proprietors went above and beyond in making our day so very special. All my guests are still raving about our reception due to ambience of our reception room in the barn which was seperate building to the hotel. Cath & John decorated the room absolutely stunning. Nothing was too much trouble. We hired an amazing singer of which stage was all up & running beforehand. But most of all the food they laid on was so amazing & so many of our guests said the reception was just stunning from start to finish. Many compliments regarding food, (especially the cheese board as on photos) beer, ambience, decor, floral arrangements. Lovely seating area at back of barn as well as fantastic bar in the barn. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a very special wedding reception at a fraction of the price that other wedding venues charge. Cath and John are an amazing lovely couple.

We struggled to find a place that did pub food at a reasonable price (we didn't want to go to Wetherspoons) in Bewdley, then discovered The Black Boy. The lad behind the bar looked a bit surprised when we asked whether they were still serving food (this was about 8pm). He said they were, but I had to ask for a couple of menus. We sat in the bar area and were the only ones there eating food, which made us a bit suspicious. The menu has a limited choice and my husband chose beer battered cod, only to be told they'd sold out. He then ordered the salmon. He was disappointed that the piece of salmon was so small and placed on a small mound of crushed new potatoes with four pieces of asparagus draped over the top. No other veg. He asked the waitress for a side order of chips to bulk out the meal, but she looked most put-out and informed him when she brought them over that he'd have to go to the bar and pay an extra £3. I had the beef lasagne and it was a good-sized portion and very tasty. The chips were amazing! The young waitress seemed keen to whip away our dirty plates at the first available opportunity and came over four times, but each time my husband was still eating. Again, she looked most put out. When I went to the Ladies a little later, I saw that she'd gone off shift. The service needs to improve, the menu needs to be slightly more extensive and portions a little larger to give better value for money.

Called in yesterday for Sunday lunch. Ordered our drinks at the bar but was called to the table with an assurance that our drinks would follow. Ten minutes later we asked where they were, to be told they lost the order!!!. First course ok, main one was lamb, very undercooked and tough to cut. Sweet ok, had cheese, can't get too much wrong there. Asked for bill, waited 10 minutes and walked to to the till to ask again, where staff produced a bill for 3 meals on a table for two. Sorry won't be back.

My family visited the SVR and stopped in Bewdley and looked for the nearest pub we could to the station. This one popped up on Google and quick flick of the reviews looked promising. As soon as we walked in the pub was lovely and welcoming. Originally the bar staff said they were full for walk in food but lucky the very good manger/landlord stepped forward and said there was a cancellation and took us to our table. The pub is truly lovely inside recent refurb and the table set with crisp white linen and with glasswear. Expecting an expensive menu we were delighted to see reasonable prices for what looked like as it passed out from the kitchen lovely looking food. And my god it tasted as good as it looked !! Three roast beef Sunday roasts and a turkey Christmas meal cooked to perfection with side veg in side dishes tells you the front of house and the kitchen staff care about their food. Amazing job guys every meal was perfect - the kids menu that was served up again a great price for freshly cooked kids meals - real chunky fish fingers and loads of them! The deserts were freshly made and again not a tiny bit was left after! As for the drinks a great selection and the ale mark well deserved the butty Bach was quality. And finally the serving waiting staff were all wonderful friendly and paid attention to detailing our needs - again an asset to the pub. This pub truly is worth a visit and every other pub should strive to this pubs standards. Highly recommended and if you can get in before Christmas you wont be disappointed. (Side note the bar area looked great and cozy and a mark if a great pub is its toilets - this landlord cares they were spotless, modern and fresh!)

Nice food but there was a special offer leaflet at the pub, detailing a free bottle of house wine for each booking, up to November 30th 2018. As it was 30th November ( A Friday ) we expected the offer but we were told that it was only for bookings of 6 and only on Tuesdays to Thursdays . It did not say this on the leaflet and we were disappointed that they did not honour what they had advertised . It spoiled what would have been a good evening . Surely they should have said that it ended on the 29th November if Fridays were exempt? We were told by staff that terms and conditions applied but we pointed out that there were no terms stated on the leaflet. We left feeling that they simply couldn't be bothered to offer what they had advertised .

Arrived at 1.30 for Sunday expecting a good crowd in, this was not the case so from the start was a little worried as to what was about to arrive on the table, to start we both had the garlic mushroom pancakes which to be fair were very tasty with homemade pancakes the only down side was the presentation, the side salad was something you would have expect 25 years ago, dry brown iceberg lettuce with tomatoes and cucmber.... The main we both had the roast pork which was cooked to perfection however it was served on a childs size plate and the vegetables that followed really were a joke, the savoy cabbage was brown from being over microwaved and what was given for two people really was only enough for one. The service was ok, the barmaid was very pleasant and friendly however the waitress wasnt she just didnt want to be there. The whole place needs a real good clean and is long overdue a refurb as its very tired, dated and very dirty...... better places to eat in the area

My friend and I stayed in The Black Boy this weekend on Friday and Saturday night, as we were in the area for a wedding. The good:We needed a hotel for a wedding and this was the only one available! They were showing the rugby in the barn and brought our breakfast out to us so we could watch and eat. The were very accommodating with when we arrived (around 10pm) and left (12.30pm)There were tea making facilities. The bad:I booked a twin room and we were given a room with four single beds in. Had we known this in advance, we could have asked friends to share with us rather than staying miles away. I was told the room was ensuite, however it was a private bathroom down the hall. This involved walking past other rooms to use the facilities. The hotel is very old and on arrival there were several large spiders in the room that my friend had to remove. The bed sheets were starchy and itchy, like you'd find on a hospital bed. The room and bathroom were very shabby. The shower (no bath) cubicle was small and the water only went to warm, not hot. It also had no power which meant for my long hair, it took a long time to rinse shampoo out. Overall, would I go back or recommend this to another person, no, unless I was again given it as an only option. For £65 per night for the room, breakfast was included (although it was of a fairly low standard) but the staff were friendly and accomodating.

Although our family did not stay at the black boy we have visited a few times in the past two months for different reasons. If we are looking for a top-class meal it is the best in the UK, when the younger, shorter chef is working, the food is full of flavour and no matter what dish you ask for it is perfect and exquisite, however when the taller chef is cooking we find that it is something you'd expect from a 'marston's' or 'wetherspoon's' as it has no spice, flavour or pizazz, that makes the food satisfactory but not enjoyable. It is a very welcoming pub, the bar manager, Jo is always helpful and friendly, and consistently shows us absolutely perfect decorum and seems to be working or cleaning around the pub at all times which can only enhance our visits. I, personally, am a very big fan of the Golden Glow ale that was on a few weeks ago and would like to see it return! Also, it looked worrying to me that the tall, long-haired boy who sometimes works behind the bar seems to help himself to drinks when not working, it looks awful to customers. Great ideas involved in the Royal Wedding weekend, extremely fun, with pimms and lemonade for the adults and face painting for the kids, it was like a breath of fresh air!! I'd like to see some more cocktails on the menu, maybe pimms and lemonade, rum and pineapple, amaretto and cranberry, gin and orange juice? The only other flaw is that it's not got such a 'modern look' and looks like it was decorated 50 years ago and kept the same (with the carpet almost wasting away in some places!), maybe a little renovation is needed, and seems that there is always your boring 'jazz nights' and live bands that are very old style, maybe an open mic night or something, these ideas would only draw in a younger 'clientele', rather than the 'same old faces'. However these are only suggestions, there's just so much potential in this pub, with the perfect food that is guaranteed when the younger chef is on and the warm welcoming that you will consistently receive, one of the best restaurants in the area, I'd just hate for it to go to waste as a 'hidden gem'!!

We had my daughters wedding in the barn on Saturday. The room looked amazing with all the flowers and drapes, very magical. The food was really good, the staff very helpful and all in all just an amazing day. We stayed the night and took over all the rooms and they even catered for a late breakfast for us (thank you!) which was just what we needed and again really good.Thank you all so much for making my daughters wedding perfect. The new owners are really changing this place an it's well worth a try for a party or just a meal. fab, fab fab!!!

Just had exceptional evening meal in the restaurant! we are locals so have not used the hotel as such, but have had breakfast a couple of weeks ago. If the food is anything to fo by the hotel should be fine! Superb friendly service. We are on "faddy" diets and our food needs were totally met! Planning on weekly returns!well done to the new management team!

Our second visit. They have a small dog-friendly section, we had our dog with us. We were celebrating a family birthday. The reasonably priced roast dinner buffet is excellent, favourites at our table were the gammon and venison. There is a host of delicious vegetable side dishes. The price included a dessert which the menu tells us was taken at the table. There is an option to purchase a kids roast dinner which we recommend for children, we had two teens. However, we waited a considerable amount of time, well over a half hour for this. When we found someone to enquire the young lady (we had enquired twice) assured us that it would be sorted. All the desserts were good, my only comment was that the Eton Mess was considerably lacking in meringues a very tiny amount, I asked if there was additional meringue that could be added but the young lady insisted that I already had some. All things considered well worth it, we drive neatly 40 min to enjoy it - local parks and dog walks make it a lovely afternoon out.

We came here for a meal to celebrate a family birthday. There was something on the menu to please everyone, including our fussy six year old. Portion sizes were spot on and everything was cooked to perfection. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, even when busy; getting the balance between making sure we were attended to and leaving us to enjoy our meal just right. We would definitely recommend and will be coming back again to try more from the menu!

Great little shop / cafe, very welcome addition to the area. Lovely breakfast that was great value for money, dog friendly also which is great as so many people around the area have dogs.
