Not visited for many years but attended a wake there yesterday. Pleasant staff, nice airy function room with lots of natural light. Delicious buffet catering for all tastes and plenty of it. Could really do with more parking spaces though.

Ordered an Amstel, tasted like washing up liquid, 2 other people tried the beer and agreed but bartender refused to give me a refund or exchange for another beer. Bartender did say that the management have said that they can’t exchange or refund because people have obviously been bringing it back. This happens a week before and I though it would be sorted by now but obviously not.

I led a walk on which 57 people turned up. I had informed the pub that we were coming and to expect about 12 people eating: there were 23 eating with the remaining 34 wanting drinks! I phoned through the food order and when we arrived the tables were reserved and we all had time to order drinks before our food arrived. Everyone thought the food was really good and would visit again. The pub staff were so friendly and efficient that we thoroughly enjoyed our stop and were able to restart our walk without any delay. Well done to the pub!

My husband had heard this pub did meals at lunchtime for £5.00 for OAP’s so we decided to try the pub out for our lunch. There were a few folk in the pub but no one serving behind the bar. Eventually a young girl came rushing out to serve us. It seemed she was the only lady working. She was most helpful, brought us menus from which we ordered our lunch although there was no sign of a menu for OAP’s Apart from this young lady serving and rushing about no one else seemed to be about which was most disappointing as it’s usual to see a manager or manageress smiling behind the bar. Our food was good and enjoyable but don’t think we will return.

Before visiting for my friends birthday, I enquired about disabled access and received a very blunt email in return saying that I could not use my mobility scooter inside the pub as there was a step up and also that there would be no room for my scooter. On arrival there was a very small step and the pub was nearly empty and there was plenty of space for my small mobility scooter. In the end my friends had to help me into the pub as I only had my walking stick. Food was very average but young lady behind the bar was very helpful

11 descended on The Falstaff without booking and ordered lunch. With lots of choices ranging from liver, bacon, mash, bangers and mash, chilli jackets etc everyone was very pleased with their food. Mine was the tuna and sweet corn salad which is always nicely laid out. Service is always good at The Falstaff, just a little slow this time because there were so many of us.

We have dined here before and it has been a good experience but it must have been an off day. The sole barmaid was unfriendly and unhelpful. We left a third of our meal as it was not very appetizing. The pub used to do Senoir Citizen meals which were smaller and to our liking but alas no more. It was only after we had ordered drinks that we were told 'only cash as machine not working'. Surely a sign would have been appropriate or told before ordering. We did not appreciate the 3 men customers who were very loud with shocking swearing. We sat in the garden after our meal to be met by uncleaned ashtrays. We will not be returning

Unfortunately I was one of three to choose chilli, mine being by far the smallest of the portions. When I buy a chilli meal I expect a good flavour, this was lacking, in fact it was just a mildly flavoured mince with rice. My bread and butter pudding was cold in the middle, clearly from a cold fridge and microwaved for too short a time. Don't think I will be rushing back! To be fair some of the other meals looked better and my friends didn't complain.

How do you rate a pub for its food?I think that's a difficult question to answer. It depends on all manner of stuff. What you like, what your expectations are and, more importantly, what's on the menu.I think burgers are a great marker for pub food. Why? Everywhere does burgers. Who doesn't like a burger? It's a go-to choice on a pub menu.So given that, does the Sir John Falstaff have burgers on their menu?Yes.Are they any good?I have to say in all honestly that here they're not good.No.They're not. They are astonishing.Hand-made patties and served with everything in a bun that burger regulations stipulate (for a "standard" burger).Up the ante and the additional stuff you can add is "designer" burger heaven. You must order chips with them. That is not a recommendation, it's an order. Why? Hand-cut and fried to perfection when we ate there. They also have nice beer.Win win as the expression goes.

Orders were taken quickly and arrived hot and not to long to wait either but it was not busy at all . I had the burger as per usual ,good size taste and on a proper toasted kaiser roll too ,very good .Others had sword fish , cod and chips .My daughter had a cheese and pickle baguette , tasty and well prepared with a good Merlot . . All stated very good . Enough portion that most did not have a desert. those that did stated it was the best chocolate brownie they had ever had !! the pub was clean ,toilets too ,only a small car park at rear , maybe more nearby. Steep steps at rear but lev el enterance at the front . Barmaid /waitress did not know if Stella was imported or under license so went for local bitter. Overall very good and shall return . Music was not to any of our tastes but at least it was at correct level that we could converse with each other . Oh yeah Dickens died opposite.

Went here twice in 1 weekend with my partner & my parents. Friday lunchtime I had Chicken Wings, which were superb. We then went back on Sunday for a roast. Before the roast came out we were arguing as to who got the gravy 1st. It actually came out with 2 gravy boats for 3 of us. It was a good size helping and there was also plenty of horseradish sauce. Just thought the veg could be a bit more imaginative than peas, carrots & cabbage. I have no doubt we will be eating here again though, as the pub is close to my parents. Was very happy with my meals.

I took my parents and son for what I hoped would be a fun, weekday, lunchtime meal here since they have an exotic menu, but having negotiated the steep steps from the carpark (with walking sticks) and browsed the menu to make our choices, when I approached the bar to order I was told that they only accept cash. There was no explanation for this and in this day and age it seems an odd limitation. They brusquely pointed out that if I was to drive back to Strood there was a bank machine there and informed me that their website mentions this necessity for cash. There is no other way to find out about this restriction (apart from being told on ordering as we were). Foolishly we hadn't felt the need to read the website in detail before going out for lunch. The meal prices are high, so there was no way we had that kind of cash to hand. We left and went elsewhere. Obviously I can't rate the food, but the waitress was dismissive and unwelcoming, so service gets a thumbs down. The place was empty and the access directly from the carpark is not easy for the elderly, so I wouldn't recommend it for atmosphere or easy access.

My son in law was training for the recent london marathon to raise money for prostate cancer. He ran out of water and not having any money asked within the pub and was happily given some . On saturday afternoon after shopping we decided to stop off for cooling drink as it was unusually hot and after such a generous gift of water we went in . My wife and i used to eat and drink here regularly untill about 9 years ago when it changed to red plastic and stainless steel most off putting but now it has reverted to a more traditional/country pub again . Had some drinks Adnams Ghost ship on tap .All 5 of us decided to try the food as it wasnt overly busy . My daughter wanted to sit outside as it was so good within the garden . The food came promptly and very importantly on heated plates we all ate different dishes but can personally recommend the louiseana burger on toasted bun . No smokers in the garden which was pleasant but some families playing ball games with the ball coming over to us several times . We all got green staining from the benches too ,it will rub off as more people sit outside i suppose. The menu looks adventurous and fancy hopping back to try the kangaroo next time. So ,the good Samaritan ended up costing me about £70 plus! PS Nick completed the marathon.

From the outside, this looks like a smart, reasonably up-market, well kept pub. Inside, the staff are friendly (although a little abrupt if they misunderstand something), and the interior is spotlessly clean. The decor is terrible. The furniture is a respectable brown leather and dark wood affair, but the carpet is 90s patterned, and the loos are stuck somewhere between the 1970s and a machete, judging from the amount of paint ripped off the skirtings. The disabled loo isn't even open, which is not the way to make disabled people feel normal, having to ask for the key (it's not a rajar key). The food is appalling. So salty, I could still feel the salt in my mouth 24 hours later. Brown, tinned-looking peas, defrosted meals, and cheap, nasty meat. Sub-Wetherspoon's meals at restaurant prices. The locals are friendly, in a guarded way, but there are only about ten of them.No children's menus, so you'll be looking at around £9 for a full meal for children. It could be good, but they need to work on service and food. The food is terrible. And given people no longer really go out just to drink, you would hope they would work on that.

Well presented, lovely cooked, we didn't want the roast to end!!.. We both had the chocolate fudge cake for afters which was also delicious.. I absolutely love The Falstaff! I used to live in Higham but since moving from the village, I regularly come back. It's very easy to get to and has ample parking, even when its been busy I've not struggled to get parked. The beer garden is beautiful and is well kept and you don't really notice any traffic the other side of the fence. Inside, the pub is separated into the restaurant and the bar. The food is definitely my favourite part of visiting the Falstaff, I've never been with anyone who hasn't really enjoyed their meal. There's something for everyone, there's the normal pub classics, there's quorn alternatives that suit the vegetarians but there's also exotic choices like kudu and kangaroo if you feel adventurous! The service is always fast and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The only downside to the Falstaff is the fact they don't take card, you can only pay by cash so ensure you pass a cash point before turning up!

Thought we would try Sunday lunch here on the 16th March as it was advertised as two courses for £8.50, which we thought was pretty good, so we booked for 4.30 pm. When it arrived the vegetables were watery and overcooked and the roast potatoes were either re-heated or had been kept warm for some time, and were neither fresh tasting or crispy. There was the biggest mound of luke-warm cabbage I'd ever seen, and the carrots and peas were equally unappetising. We each had roast beef which, although quite thinly sliced and well done, was tasty. My husband asked for advice regarding the ales on tap and was told "no idea mate" when he asked for a comparison to his usual tipple! Not a good lunch, we much prefer the Three Crutches in Strood where the food is freshly cooked and hot and they accept card payments!

We finally decided to try it tonight along with my mum and dad in law. We parked in the car park and unfortunately upon entering the pub there was an overwhelmingly strong smell of state beer. We were also told exactly which table to sit at even though the restaurant side was empty which was very odd. Considering there is no table service you would assume you could sit where you wanted to. We all decided to have three courses. The cheese sharer starter consisted of three types of breaded cheese which were tasty but the same as what you can buy from the Iceland's party food range as were the tempura prawns that the gents had. All very ordinary. The gents both had kangaroo steak medium rare which both arrived well done. But they were hungry where we had all come straight from work so didn't complain. I had the lasagne which was tasty but did not have any parmesan on or any beef in it! Deserts were definitely Iceland's own as I regularly buy two of them myself! These were the strawberry gateau and toffee cheesecake. The lady serving us also didn't know what we meant when we requested a baileys coffee which was bizarre and had to be shown be the owner which was quite awkward to watch as all she had to do was put the shot of baileys in a coffee!!!!! We were also shocked as they do not accept card payment meaning our dad had to pay the £100.00 bill. This is more than we have ever paid for a meal for the four of us and we eat out a minimum of 6 times a month as a family. And there was only two alcoholic drinks purchased in total so this bill was purely for food and soft drinks. They also thought it was acceptable to give me an orange j2o when I asked for a yellow(apple and mango). When my partner returned to the bar for me thinking they have given the wrong one by mistake, we were told that they didnt have the yellow one. That was it. No apology, no sorry for the mistake. So they obviously thought it was OK to give me the orange and passion fruit without even asking if it was OK to do so! The only positive I can say is that there was a good selection of vegetarian options for my mum in law. Also the toilets were freezing and the light bulbs faulty. So it was a cold disco going to the loo. We will definitely not be returning and is a shame because the place has such potential

Went for a meal here a few weeks ago. Have passed by many times and said we must try it. We were given a warm welcome. The food was beautifully presented and was delicious. Could not fault it. Definitely 10/10. Will certainly be going back.

After sampling many kentish pubs it was a breath of fresh air to walk into the Sir John Falstaff. 10/10 for cleanliness and at last a pub for adults minus the screaming kids! Beautifully presented, outstanding food cooked fresh to my liking (I had fillet steak) in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Was made to feel more than welcome from my first step through the door. My wife (a vegetarian) also extremely pleased to find a menu with such a variety of vegetarian options. And last of all and moat important! A fantastic pint!. We look forward to returning in the very near future.

We go to the Falstaff on a regular basis as we live in the village, mainly because there is always a nice welcome, menu large and varied. On busy days you may have to wait a while as the food is always freshly cooked as you order it but this is no problem, (better than bulk cooking). No worries about waiting as the Bar staff are friendly and always plenty of banter going on.

Down visiting family in the area and went here for dinner and a few drinks. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. The food is lovely and a good portion size, very exotic menu with plenty to chose from. If your in the area we would highly recommend a visit.

After eating at the Falstaff before and having good experiences, we choose to have our daughter's birthday meal there. The staff were faultless and the establishment was spotlessly clean. My husband had the homemade steak pie, which he said was one of the best he has had! My daughter and I both had the chicken specials which were very nice too. Price was reasonable and had a varied selection of dishes to choose from. Will be going back again!

This has to be the best pub (home) cooked food in the area. Nothing is frozen, for those who can't tell everything is fresh. The pub is so friendly with your regular beers plus a selection of real ales. The garden is kept clean and tidy and is enclosed so safe to let the children run around. As the pub gets busy, being popular, the car park is soon filled up, there is alternative parking in the lane less than two minutes walk away. The only people who could disrespect the Falstaff is obviously Gads Hill parents who block the car park or the other local pub that I wouldn't go in as I'm happy with beer only to get a high. Ok the same as any pub the beer could be cheaper. But for the a friendly pub who welcomes all then the Sir John Falstaff is it.

My child goes to the school across the road to this pub so my wife and I thought it would be nice to try it one day. The first time we went with my daughter we were told no children allowed. We were disappointed and left. We were then in the area on Friday night, just my wife and me so we thought we would give it a go. Firstly the owner was very rude. We parked in the pub car park and the owner came running out saying you cant park there unless you are going to eat. Fair enough but he could of wait to see if we were going to enter the pub or not before pouncing on us. Then when the food arrived it seemed to us that it was cooked from frozen. You know when a Brussle sprout is cooked from frozen and is soggy inside. We asked the waitress and she confirmed that all the dishes were frozen and heated when ordered. We were very disappointed and when we asked to see the manager we received verbal abuse. So what ever you do, if you have to eat in this place, never complain or you will end up in a fight with the owner!

We live locally to the Falstaff, and unknowingly tried to take our children in there, but we were turned away as they said no kids allowed, which is fair enough. So recently we visited here by ourselves for a meal just before Xmas. It's a nice interior, but was full of a lot of middle aged men just standing at the bar. The barmaid was very polite and friendly, and the food was reasonably priced as well, though there are some quite expensive dishes on the menu and quite exotic meats as well ! My wife had a fish dish, and I had a burger which I thought I couldn't go wrong with. Not a long wait for the food, Aden we were pleased with the size of the portions. My wife was very happy with her meal, but my burger was not good at all...very cheap burger, no taste, like something from a burger van. Speaking to our neighbours they tell me that the burgers used to be fantastic from the Falstaff, but they stopped having them because they became very ordinary. We were also surprised to see people bring children in..a couple with a baby, and another with teenagers, but it seemed as though they were regulars and the no children policy did not apply to them, which seems a bit unfair. Also as I mentioned there were a lot of men standing at the bar which seemed to put off another couple from eating in there, as they came in, sat down, then left by the back door without even a drink. We will go back there, but I definitely won't be having the burger !!!

My wife and I just fancied somewhere different and if you want a pub that you will never accidentally stumble across this is it. We dropped in as i remember coming here a very long time ago as a teenager and it is a really pleasant surprise. The staff could not have been friendlier or more cheerful despite working very hard and the pub itself has had a facelift and is very smart and well turned out. It was wet when we arrived but there is some great outside space if you fancy it in the Summer. Ample car parking out front and a really friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent. I had Whitebait and my wife really enjoyed the Arancini balls. For mains I would recommend the Moroccan Lamb from the specials board and the Salmon with noodles looked and tasted excellent. Decent selection of lager and Dry Rose was first class. Bill was £76 for 2 including 2 rounds of drinks so pretty much par for the course and it was a very nice couple of hours spent. My only small gripe would be the gents toilets are a little tired. They need a lick of paint, a decent mirror and a little touch of panache but that is only a minor issue. Overall we will certainly come again. There is ample on the menu to drag us back and I'm looking forward to it.

Owned by (I think) by Silverhand Estate - large vineyard), the food was very good. We had crispy squid to start - good portions, very crisp with a bit of a bite to the batter. Main course we had venison - very well cooked with seasonal greens. My wife had a glass of Silverhand's dry white wine which wasn't exorbitant and found it very good. Service was good (unfortunately one of the waiting staff was ill on the night so there was a bit of a wait but nothing to get upset about, and the other waitress was very pleasant. So 2 starters and two mains, a glass of wine and a couple of beers was £79, so very reasonable. I shall certainly go there again. There is another dining room but tonight' tables were by the bar but the locals were quiet - no noisy individuals which can be a problem in other gastro pubs.

From first visit the food was exceptionally brilliant, warm friendly greeting upon arrival. We have been regular customers now and the food has just got even more better the last couple of weeks, we tried the take away service last time and it turned up before estimated time and was piping hot. Couldn't recommend enough.
