Although we wasn’t staying at the hotel we were walking distance to this restaurant. The bar area was nicely presented. The menu could be described as pub grub and disappointing. I order Pad Thai and when served was disappointed to see very wet skinny noodles. Although the staff were friendly and efficient the ambience of the restaurant area was dead even though there was around twenty diners. Decidedly average.

Sit by a window overlooking the sea, in a proper restaurant, where food is cooked to order, to your liking, at a table covered in a real tablecloth. Food is excellent, and there is no problem if you want just a starter and desert, or a starter and then another starter instead of a main, or even just a starter. I have multiple food allergies and they dealt with them happily and very competently, even coming back from the kitchen to check with me if there was any doubt about ingredients. Two menus, and no problem if you want to mix and match, and if you want a large meal then the main courses are large. We stay in Lowestoft a couple of times a year for a few days each time, and always eat here. Very highly recommended. Only snag is they are sometimes very busy, especially if the function room is in use, so it often pays to book. (They will then advise you of a good time to eat if they know they are going to be busy.)

We have had an occasional meal at the Coast before which was quiet passable but stopped in for the Wednesday Senior 3 course meal this time . There was a set meal offering 2 choices for each course 1 Soup or pate 2. fish or risotto 3 ice cream or fruit salad. We all had vegetable soup, very bland, not sure what the vegetables were but as it was green maybe peas? The fish was like a frozen breaded concoction that had little resemblance to real fish, served with overcooked frozen peas. The risotto had little taste other than salt. How do you mess up a fruit salad? (90% apple) in a tasteless liquid . This was obviously a cheap, bland meal that someone had decided would suit seniors. I would avoid every going here again.

Experienced travellers know that eating in your hotel's restaurant for other than breakfast is quite a lottery. Well, here isn't; it's a pair of delightful rooms overlooking the wonderful south beach of Lowestoft that serves very good food. Obviously you expect good fish and so it is; but the happy, professional staff make it a real pleasure to eat here.

We took dinner in the Coast Restaurant which is within Hotel Victoria (where we stopped for a couple of nights). We ordered a bottle of wine which we started pre-dinner in the bar. We were given a lovely table at the window. The quality linen tablecloths and napkins set the tone. The service was quick and efficient, the menu chose sufficient. We were advised that as they were holding a big function, the table service might be a bit slower than usual, as it happened we had no problem with the timing of service, each course was delivered without any undue wait. The food was of good quality and plentiful - price including the bottle of wine was reasonable.Would we recommend for a evening meal ? Yes, definitely.

(By Tangerinebikers wife). Visited this restaurant with my elderly mum because we were staying nearby. First impressions were good. The staff were attentive & the layout of the restaurant was very good, with a sea view. However, I ordered a ordered a "Trio of Pork". One of the "trio" was black pudding! The other parts were belly pork & very thin pork steak. The top of the belly pork was so hard that it was inedible. The steak was way overdone with 2/3 mm on the bottom that was, again, so hard that it was inedible. To add to the bad experience, we waited 45 minutes for this awful meal! My mum's meal of roast turkey dinner was ok but cold by the time it arrived.

The coast restaurant has a beautiful setting overlooking the sea. With the sun setting of a summers evening it sets the perfect ambience for an enjoyable meal. The menu gives a good selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options. However, considering the reputation of Lowestoft as seaside resort I was quite disappointed with my fish dish. I ordered the cod loin with pea and pancetta mash, rocket and pesto with tomatoes. Unfortunately the dish was quite flavourless and the tomatoes were the only thing to give any real excitement to the plate. Also partially due to the (not so!) generous application of pesto dressing. Waiting staff were attentitive and friendly but a slight lack of communication was evident when questions were asked twice from both parties!

Went on a Saturday night, dinner for 4. The restaurant is clean, chairs comfortable, tables well spaced. The service was excellent. The food was good, the prices are not expensive, probably right for the food. The background was someone playing a grand piano somewhere, reminded me of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. I noticed the price of a pint at the bar was £3.60, (cheaper than the pub), but on the bill was £4.10, par for the course for a restaurant. Although 50p for a waiter to carry it 10 metres seems high, but a minor gripe. All in all not bad at all.

It is always a challenge to operate a high quality restaurant in a hotel where you are constantly juggling the needs of the restaurant patrons, the customers in the bar and the requirements of special groups. On my recent visit the difficulty of getting good service in the restaurant was made more difficult because of the large wedding group in the hotel which also needed servicing. We were at the restaurant for my mother’s 90th birthday celebration so as a group of twelve it may have been an awkward size to deal with effectively. Equally I may be being kind; if the hotel is not capable of managing the covers in the dining room as well as the bar customers and a wedding they should not be in business. The service was a bit slow but generally professional and hardworking; the greater strain was on the quality of what came out of the kitchen. The restaurant has two menus a special Mediterranean offering and the normal menu. I (and around half our party) chose from the Mediterranean menu, this was the mistake. There was the distinct impression the Mediterranean menu involved much advance preparation, these selections were clearly prepared first (baked cod and Bream) while the main menu items were then prepared. Result, the main menus items were fresh and hot, the Mediterranean menu items were luke warm and had clearly been under heat lamps for some time (the ham wrapped cod loin was both dry and luke warm). In addition the sauce of chorizo, tomato and white beans was almost cold, had virtually no spice and had a massive over reliance of concentrated tomato paste.I did not complain as we were focussed on the enjoyment of my mother on a special occasion but I was dramatically disappointed on the quality of the food. The staff however were excellent, striving to serve when clearly overextended because of the wedding.

What has happened to the Coast Restaurant? I have eaten here a number of times, and it has got worse each time, tonight was the worst experience ever, and I shall not be returning. The service this evening was appalling, it took the staff 20 mins+ to remove our dinner plates! at this point we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu, we said yes, this menu never arrived and I had to get up and get it myself. We didn't bother with dessert. I had the prawn and mango salad for starters, 5 prawns and no mango, rubbish. Gammon and egg for mains, watery gammon and hard eggs, crap. The wife had a dry portion of lasagne, not impressed. Both managers were on site but were for some reason paying all there attention to an obese complaining man sitting near us, why, I am unsure. They should have been paying more attention to their empty restaurant, where the few guests they had were having a poor time. Such a shame that a good hotel, in a good setting is of such sub standard quality. Food aside, the decor and general state of repair is shocking, plaster falling of the walls and ceiling, rotten window frames, mouldy sealant and black bugs all over the place, perhaps a visit from an EHO might be a good idea. I know a good one. I would not be at all surprised if the once loved Coast closes, soon. Awful. I would like to say a redeeming feature of this evenings visit were the staff, but they were rubbish too.

Have eaten here many times, usually at functions and never impressed with the food. That was a few years ago and I must say the hotel now presents itself as modern, airy and welcoming. From moment we arrived and throughout meal staff were friendly, attentive, efficient and available. We did have a cracking evening, mainly due to the company however I did find the food a little lacking. Whilst presentation was good, the fish cakes frankly had little or no taste, easily mistaken for seasoned powdered potato. My pork belly in the main was a tad on the tough side and side salad predominantly sliced peppers and cherry tomato coated in quite strong dressing, bereft of cucumber etc which makes a salad refreshing. I do feel a little guilty as it is clear that a lot of effort has gone into it but I am sorry but my choice of meal was not quite for me.Whilst not my first choice, I would return again but I would have to be much more selective and specific with food choice. I do feel the prices also demand this

We received a Travelzoo gift voucher for lunch at the Coast Restaurant at Lowestoft's Hotel Victoria on the seafront at the "posh" end of town, and on arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table, which had lovely views of the sea.The Tastes of Anglia menu offered four tempting choices for each of the three courses, and our voucher included a glass of wine per person (interchangeable for a soft drink if preferred for ). It really was quite difficult to choose what to order, as everything sounded delicious, but in the end I opted for the ham hock terrine (served with a lovely walnut and apple dressed salad) followed by lemon sole fillets in a butter, prawn and caper sauce accompanied by crushed new potatoes and green beans. My husband chose the homemade fresh cod fishcakes with lemon mayonnaise to start, and then the lamb shank which came with creamy mash, savoy cabbage and carrots, and a terrific gravy. The generous portions were beautifully cooked, very well-presented, hot and on hot plates, and served with a smile by our friendly waitress. We decided to force down a third course, and decided to share the chocolate and raspberry tart, and then finished by sharing the cheese platter. Again, the portions were more than ample, the chocolate tart was delicious, and the trio of quality cheeses were accompanied by crackers, grapes and an elegant mint & apply chutney. The Travelzoo voucher represented excellent value, but even without this we would unhesitatingly recommend the food, the service and the staff at the Victoria Coast restaurant. We shall definitely return.

I have enjoyed many excellent meals over the years af this lovely hotel.Today, alas.was most upsetting. The Christmas meal, for a charity group with which I have been a volunteer for many years, was super. However, a simple request, at the end, for a cheese platter, not just for me it has to be said, was greeted with the news that we 'had to go upstairs', since they were clearing up around us, none too subtley it has to be said. Not that we felt we were being kicked out!I asked some manager chap if they couldn't oblige me, and us, and suffice to say, he raised his voice, pointed his finger at me, embarrasse me, and so I retreated, hurt, to sit outside. Subsquently, I rang the 'management' to discuss this calmly and 'he' said that 'they' knew what this was about, and told me to write to them. I stated that I simply wanted to talk to someone, was again told to write to them, so that their lawyers could respond, at which they hung up. Was I being paranoid to feel rather intimidated by this. The moral of the tale is, enjoy the lovel food, but don't question anything, or your day will be ruined as mine was. and lawyers will be hovering in the background.Enjoy.John

Four of us visited the Coast Restaurant yesterday (Sunday) evening, my wife and I and two friends whom we had not seen for several years and who we wanted to treat. We had booked in advance and had a drink in the bar whilst our orders were taken. My first impression of the foyer had been that the establishment was air conditioned but on moving through into the bar and restaurant it was very obvious that it was not. To be fair the outside heat and humidity have been unusually high in the last few days but it was sad that the first impression was soon spoiled. On being taken through to our table in the restaurant we found that we had a really good view of the sea and staff were both very welcoming and helpful. Our selections had been a mixture from the table d'hote and the a la carte menus. Our guests appeared to be happy with their choices or were too polite to say otherwise but I was disappointed in the Chicken Kiev, which had been described in the menu as one of the hotel specialities. I should have been prepared as the breadcrumbed exterior of the Kiev looked as if someone had burned the toast. On cutting into it I found that it was overcooked and dry without a trace left of the of the garlic butter which, even if the Kiev had been slightly over-cooked, would normally have kept the centre reasonably moist. This wasn't.The main purpose of our visit had been was to catch up with news from our friends and this we did, with eating being a secondary consideration, otherwise I would have spoken to the staff at the time. To send back something back,.even though barely palatable, would have disrupted our conversation and overshadowed our reunion. A secondary consideration was possibly that the waiting staff were pleasant and helpful and it would have seemed ungracious to take out my real thoughts about the dish on them when it should have been on the kitchen staff. I always carry, however, a dog-bag to take any left-over treat for our dog and he did very well last night.

The hotel isn't particularly posh or perfect but what it lacks in elegance it makes up for in good service & special touches. Our room was upgraded to a sea view & this made it for us because the hotel is right on the sandy beach & we opened our window last night & listened to the sea - very special! The room was huge, clean & comfortable but not high end, quite basic, but nice pictures & soft furnishings made it a little more special. Last night we were out late & arrived back in the early hours & we put the 24 hour bar to the test - we loved this, the bar was opened & the bar tender kindly & cheerfully mixed us drinks into the early hours telling us interesting stories & joining in with our late night/early morning chat. The breakfast was generous & very good too. Full marks to the Hotel Victoria for a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommend.

I do wonder how reviews can be so different! We found the atmosphere to be welcoming and the staff friendly. As already mentioned, the restaurant enjoys a splendid view of the sea and we were lucky enough to have a window table. We opted for the special Mediterranean menu running until the end of June and whilst perfectly enjoyable it was a little disappointing with regards to seasoning and imagination. Service was quiet and friendly but a bit slow; I'd almost finished my starter before the wine arrived. Garlic prawns, although nice enough, were average but the red mullet with fennel was tasty. The potatoes had a somewhat dry-looking tomato sauce on them so they looked as though they'd been hanging around a bit. Orange pannacotta was pleasant but the small dollop of chocolate sauce on the side looked commercial. The price was very reasonable; under £50 for 2 people, including pre-lunch drinks, 2 glasses of wine and coffee. How can that be expensive in this day and age? It would be interesting to go again when there's no Special menu on the go.

We decided to give this place a go after hearing good things so went on a Saturday night. It's a nice big restaurant but needs a bit of a re-vamp. When I see an artex ceiling I always think "90's". The service was really good and we were well looked after by staff but for us the food didn't leave us thinking we would rush back. It was not bad, I would say mediocre. It was good value so should I moan? I would suggest a re think of the menu, concentrating on flavour and presentation. It has a wide age range of customers so needs to keep everyone happy. Tricky? I have been to many functions here so hope my constructive comments help to improve what is a nice hotel to visit.

We went for a 3-course meal on midway between Christmas and New Years. Restaurant was quiet although a wedding reception was underway in the Hotels function room. We started with a large glass of the house Merlot in the bar before being seated at our pre-booked window table. Recommend for summer bookings for views, not so crucial in December! We had starters of King Prawns and also Chicken Liver pate. Both were very well presented and ample in size. We followed these with main courses of seabass (off the menu; there was also a seabass special!) and a chilli con carne. The seabass came with seasonal vegetables and the chilli with wedges and garlic bread. Again both were excellently presented and tasted great too. We also ordered a bottle of the house red which was a surprisingly Spanish Merlot which was also very pleasant. Dessert was nearly avoided but the cheeseboard was available and after discussion could be provided with just the cheese of our choice. So it was double Stilton for dessert served with ample water biscuits and accompanied by grapes (and unnecessary butter). All of which was again well presented on a slate effect tablet. Of course the cheese boards automatically required an additional bottle of red to accompany the cheese. There was no rush to finish and when we were ready we retired to a sofa in the lounge bar area to finish our wine. We were well looked after and the courses were well spaced out in their arrival at our table. All in all we had an excellent meal and evening out and all of the time were accompanied by the piano being played in the lounge bar area. Very recommended.

Myself and group of friends booked a table to watch Nigel 'boy' Sayer and Lisa Marie entertain while we celebrated with a Christmas meal. The food was excellent, the service was fast and efficient and the whole lunch and afternoon was great value for money with a wonderful atmosphere and great entertainment. We will all definitely be going back next year.

Called in here as we had just arrived that afternoon, and had been advised that this was the local place for good food. The restaurant was full and as we had no reservation and it was Saturday night the receptionist was sorry, but offered to feed us in the bar area if we could wait for 10 minutes. The meal was excellent and we were sat near to the piano at which sat a gentleman who never stopped playing gentle music which helped to make the evening. The meal whilst not cheap was good value and well worth a visit.

Good value but varied service and quality throughout meal. starter of calamari was a bit stingy with only 3 small pieces while the sardine starter was the size of a main course. the main was ok but let down by the wait between the courses, over 40 mins after starter. dessert was a let down. the orange fool was a small pot of cream with a slight taste of orange juice, a bit like when you drink oj at breakfast just after your cereal, not good. service was pleasant snd polite but a bit slow. Value for money overall.

Went on a Saturday lunch time to try there Spanish themed menu and had a really great time.As the restaurant is within the hotel we were greeted by the receptionists and directed towards the bar area with a welcoming conversation. The bar staff were professional and courteous when serving our drinks and took our order for lunch at an appropriate time. The waitress showed us to a lovely table overlooking the beach and served us our starters of prawns and calamari with a Spanish influence. Really tasty and just the right size.My main course was grilled mackerel on a bed of salad and was great ,my wife's grilled trout looked even better. All was served at a nice pace with no pressure in a pleasant manner. No room for desert but a nice coffee was had instead.Overall a great time was had and would definitely go there again

We have just celebrated my husbands 40th Birthday here and the evening could not have been better. The service throughout the evening was excellent, the staff could not have done more for us and all arrangements previously agreed were fulfilled, the food was excellent and plenty of it. We would thoroughly recommend this venue to anyone and look forward to our next visit.

Family weekend in Lowestoft and enjoyed a meal in the Coast restaurant on Saturday evening. Service was excellent....food was absolutely delicious with good portion sizes and the bar prices were very reasonable. I cannot fault anything. All 10 of us had a wonderful time and would highly recommend.

Just enjoyed another fabulous meal at Coast - the Restaurant within the Hotel Victoria on Lowestoft seafront. The food is always beautifully presented and delicious. The staff could not be more pleasant and helpful and the view out to sea add that little extra something to the experience. Have been going for years and will continue to do so.

I have never stayed at the Victoria hotel, as i have a holiday flat close by.My husband and I have dined here a few times and have always found everything to be very good and very constant. The service is good, quality of food excellent and the prices are reasonable for a restaurant of this quality, not to mention the fantastic sea views. We have tried other restaurants close by, but have been disappointed and on occasion vey disappointedI would say the food is the same price as other restaurants but much better. The drinks are just a bit pricier, but just what you would expect for a hotel.I advise you to try it for any occasion.New years eve dinner and dance very popular and excellent too.

We visited the restaurant last week, a group of 8, a nice table overlooking the beach, waiting staff attentive without being over the top. Service was a little slow but it was explained after the meal that one of the chefs was off sick, perhaps prior warning when we sat down would have been better in hindsight. The meals were all well cooked and no one had any complaints about the quality, price was about right for a hotel, not cheap but reasonable value. Those who review saying such things like "very crossroads motelish" should really take the time to experience the food, the décor is bright and the public areas very clean, we would go back again.

Popped in with a friend to do some work and grab breakfast/brunch, we had coffees and a bacon sarnie! food was ok, coffee was nice (reasonably priced), and presented lovely, offered glasses of water and service was good. Sofa's were comfy and the free WiFi was great. Would definately consider going back for lunch or for an evening meal.

Nice position on sea front.Ate lunch at this hotel. Food was mediocre and unhappily an hour or so after eating I experienced dreadful stomach gurgling and cramps. Diagnosed by GP as food poisoning. won't be visiting again.

Eating at Coast was a last minute decision, but an excellent choice. Simple, elegant decor, fantastic views over the Prom and Ocean, good service, and lovely food.We chose their season special, which offered three courses based on local seafood done with an Italian twist. It was fresh, creative, and well presented.

This hotel restaurant is superbly sited with wide views of the Suffolk coast. The privately-owned hotel has been upgraded and given a contemporary makeover. Our three-course dinner was good value at £45 for two, and the chef has a deft touch with interesting flavour combinations that justify the AA rosette. The food is locally-sourced, fresh and all cooked on the premises - no frozen dessaerts here! An enjoyable evening was slightly marred by the lack of 'polish' shown by the waitress. She was friendly and competent, but unaware of the finer points which make a good waitress an important part of the dining experience. We would certainly eat here again, perhaps on a sunny day when a busier dining room might improve the atmosphere. We were delighted to find this high-quality restaurant in an area better known for burger bars and carvery pubs!

I recently had the Sunday lunch at coast and can highly recommend it. It's a bit more expensive than some other places in town but the Roast Beef was the best I've eaten in a long time and the vegetables perfectly cooked. The staff were attentive and the environment spacious and light.

We ate three times here in late May. The first two times we were both satisfied with the meal. There is a limited choice menu and for those two times I chose fish dishes. The first was traditional fish and chips which was quite acceptable and the second time I had roasted plaice with cockles/lemon sauce which was very good. Alas on the third visit I chose a braised lamb dish that was very very poor. The lamb itself was quite tasteless and tough which was bad enough but the accompanying vegetables were a disgrace. Baby carrots that could have done with a good scrub and had obvious signs of rot were inedible. The menu stated that the dish was served with anya potatoes but it came with charlotte potatoes that were simply awful. One was squidgy soft and I darnt even cut it and the others were overcooked and had that nasty 'kept warm for hours' taste. I complained and we were not charged for that dish, but by then the night is spoiled. The restaurant are proud of their newly awarded AA rosette, but if they can serve up such an awful dish as the one I got, they don't deserve it.

We used to go to this cafe years ago and always enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately today our experience was not a good one. Felt like I spent more time queuing for drinks and then back for food than sitting down and enjoying the experience. The menu seems somewhat downgraded from when we went before (very limited - no JPs or salads etc.). In the counter pastries (sausage rolls and tea cakes) sold out by 11:30. But for us we ordered 2 x bacon, cheese and tomato paninis (£8ea with no salad garnish!). I think the photos show the problems, as one of the guests are in early pregnancy I am really disappointed this grey spoilt meat was served. They didn’t come round and ask how the food was like most restaurants do, so we took the plate up the girl looked confused and took it to the kitchen they offered another one (noting no apologies given) but spoilt meat was enough to put us off and they did complete a refund for the one that was off quickly. Such a shame but to be served off meat is pretty terrible for a well established cafe. Won’t be back, which is such a shame. Note: we are not people to complain so this is a rarity. The shop however is still a lovely visit.

As a stranger to the area, checked the website that shows the shop was open. It wasn't so went to the other shop at the other side of town, where the food was excellent ,the staff friendly and very busy, good luck to them. They deserve it.

Great halloumi burger at this friendly seaside cafe. Sunny Sunday in October. Dog friendly outside. Lots of choice in menu. Very busy which is usually a good sign.

The friendliest staff and best fried bread this side of the Pecos River. The full English breakfast is top drawer but the fried bread wins the prize! Love this place!

We were a large family out for a birthday meal and were incredibly well looked after at this amazing restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff are all amazing and so attentive. Was so good to see Chris back too . They even made a great effort to put my daughters candle on her desert for her . Thank you so much for a wonderful evening
