I was in Southwold playing a GPS game (ingress) and after a long, long walk I popped in for a drink (coke) the place was very friendly. When I went to my motorcycle I found it was soaked from the sea mist, I asked the bartender if I could buy some paper towels and he handed me an almost finished roll for free which was more than enough to get my bike seat dry. That act of kindness saved me from sitting on a soggy motorcycle seat for 40 miles.... Very appreciated, shows the staff are kind and considerate. The barman is a credit to Thier pub.

On entrance, this seems a traditional pub with plenty of real ales to choose from. Really friendly staff and locals. What I was not expecting was an Italian style menu for food. We had three sough dough pizzas , absolutely fantastic and one chicken cescar salad which again was brilliant. Really authentic Italian style food, fresh, very tasty and well presented. Made a lovey change from fish and chips.

Pizza was excellent. Unfortunately, we waited over 20 minutes to buy a drink. More bar staff needed on a busy Friday night! We were assured that the pizza would take 25 minutes...it was actually 50 minutes as the ticket system had failed somehow...in other words...they forgot us. Real shame because the pizza was very tasty.

Asked to leave before we had finished our meal. Sat near the door, an irresponsible woman with a huge black dog came in, the dog was not under control, slipped its harness and attacked our dog who was asleep by the table. Because our dog defended itself we made to feel like the aggressors and the barman had the audacity to call my wife 'Love' and 'Sweetheart' which was disrespectful and we were asked to leave. Very unhappy and will not return.

Its a shame The Nelson used to be a nice place to eat home cooked traditional food, not any more, all they serve is pizzas and they serve them in a box at the table, saves washing up I suppose? and the fact they were delivered to the pub in a box from the suppliers. The Nelson is a very old pub probably about 3 hundred years old, it used to have B & B and opened 7 days a week now closed on a Sunday. Good place to meet up with friends for a chat and beer or ales, but I was very disappointed with my visit recently when I arrived in Southwold after a long drive I asked if they were serving food I was tole they had no staff in the kitchen so food was off the menu little did I know they only did pizzas anyway.

In the lord nelson today, beer was great! An elderly gentlemen caused a horrible scene, embarrassing a breastfeeding lady, all because he didn’t think children would should be in the bar. I cannot state how much I admired and appreciated the professionalism of how the bar manager Sharon dealt with it. The older gentlemen clearly overstepped his mark and crossed some serious boundaries. It’s great to see a strong moral compass that’s enforced by, and deeply rooted within the bar staff. The beer is great here, but the staff are even better

If ever there is the perfect pub the "Nelly" is it. Full of character and if you have the time to stay and speak with locals, characters. Being so close to the Adnam's brewery the pint of Broadside is always superb. It lost it's food for a while (now wood fired pizza), but our visit in April 24 had a new manageress who seems to have brought some of the old verve back (Adnams please take note). The food going out looked good and our next visit will include trying it. I really adore this pub and it deserves every success with a good staff and some TLC.

Aside from the main bar area, there are seperate, smaller seating areas, but this does not make the pub seem enclosed and dark. Owned by Adnams Ales the pub serves a good selection of ales from the brewery. The pub leases its kitchen to the Black Dog Deli, who provide the menu/food in the pub. An excellent choice of food all of which is excellent quality. Me and my partner had a Black Dog pizza each. Excellent quality, but so huge, we wish we'd ordered one and shared it! Toilets exceptionally clean. There is limited free parking outside the pub. It is close to, but away from the hustle and bustle of, the main town. The overall feel of the pub is that it is more for the locals. We loved our experience and Athena, our service dog, was well catered for and fussed over too. DEFINITELY DOG FRIENDLY.

I would love this pub as my local. When it is quieter during the week and out of season, it is a great reminder of what pubs used to be like, people chatting to each other, dogs a sleep under tables and good ale. I have been drinking here on holidays, first 1996. As an independent pub, they had a good line in pub grub. Now, as fully part of Adnams, it was pizza from black dog. Not my taste. The pub has a great atmosphere and I included a picture of me with pint on the road to show the view. The selection of beers is great if you like me love Adnams. A word of caution, it’s cash less, cards only. This is true in all Adnams.

We used to go to this cafe years ago and always enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately today our experience was not a good one. Felt like I spent more time queuing for drinks and then back for food than sitting down and enjoying the experience. The menu seems somewhat downgraded from when we went before (very limited - no JPs or salads etc.). In the counter pastries (sausage rolls and tea cakes) sold out by 11:30. But for us we ordered 2 x bacon, cheese and tomato paninis (£8ea with no salad garnish!). I think the photos show the problems, as one of the guests are in early pregnancy I am really disappointed this grey spoilt meat was served. They didn’t come round and ask how the food was like most restaurants do, so we took the plate up the girl looked confused and took it to the kitchen they offered another one (noting no apologies given) but spoilt meat was enough to put us off and they did complete a refund for the one that was off quickly. Such a shame but to be served off meat is pretty terrible for a well established cafe. Won’t be back, which is such a shame. Note: we are not people to complain so this is a rarity. The shop however is still a lovely visit.

Having a short break from my stressful job at Kessingland Beach Holiday park, and this lovely pub is just round the corner and within walking distance. Wow, atmosphere is lovely, very welcoming and genuine local pub, we left our dog in the caravan, but found they let dogs in the pub. Big seating area outside, that would be lovely to sit in, in summer as it overlooks the sea. Hubby had the cheeseburger which came with coleslaw, crinkle chips and onion rings, he said it was lovely, with a proper butchers burger, I had fish and chips with garden peas, or shall I say Moby Dick, it was that big.... Beautifully cooked meal, really enjoyable, thank you, it was lovely.
