The best restaurants in Winchester South East

A perfect spot for a leisurely lunch. In fairness, this hotel has been part of my family's celebrations, gatherings, weddings etc (through multiple hotel owners and chains) since about 1973. We keep coming back. Excellent staff, knowledgeable and helpful. Sunday lunch 12MAY2024.

We happened upon this takeaway before heading back on the train. They prepared the hot n sour soup(the best I’ve ever had- plenty of pork/prawns), won ton soup, Singapore noodle(great balance of prawns/pork/chicken/egg with noodles and chilli/garlic king prawns(juicy prawns- good balance of vegetables). Meal for 2 for £19.50! Bargain!

Recently went here for lunch in the bar area and had an excellent and relaxing experience. The very friendly welcome, service, food and prices were all superb. Thank you.

This pub has a large menu and decent pricing but unfortunately that means they do not do overly well with any of the dishes. I had an ok steak but inexplicably came with what felt like a supermarket salad bag dumped on the plate. It served no purpose other than to be 'filler'. No seasoning either. This was followed by a crumble where the fruit was too hard and not cooked well enough and too dry. Solid pricing, but if only they honed in on a smaller number of dishes to improve lackluster food.

Lovely coffee and service but disgusting toilets. Like a Ship's lavatory after a booze cruise. Gut wrenching tbh.

I booked a room at this hotel through Agoda. Big, big mistake. Avoid that site like the plague. They have all the tricks in the trade to avoid you communicating with them. I needed to cancel the booking because I found that the hotel was much further from my destination than I had realised. Tried through Agoda. no chance. So tried to phone hotel. First time after three long attempts a waitress answered and said she couldn't cancel a booking but the owner will be back in 2 hours, She will give him a message. He didn't phone back. Next day, I tried to phone them three times. Each call timed out. I am 84 and use hotels frequently, usually 3 star or above at least 10 - 15 times each and every year since I was 20. The place is clearly a pub / restaurant which runs a few rooms B&B on the side - very unprofessionally have never experienced this degree of non-contact ability.

I write my reviews on paper straight away but I’m late uploading to Trip Advisor. This is a great old pub which is full of history. I had the peri peri chicken. It was good but very hot. Next time I would ask for sauce on the side but that is just my particular taste. My husband had the steak ciabatta with salsa verde. He didn’t enjoy because of the salsa verde. He’s never had a salsa verde with basil in but this one did and he hates basil. He’s had salsa verde so many times, all without basil. Since learnt that some people do now add basil. So he will now ask when ordering salsa verde if it has basil in. Great ambience and would definitely return.

Very disappointing. Expensive for what it is and seems to have gone downhill. Lovely building and environment but food not very warm, fish and chips greasy and burger very average A shame

Went to the old forge with family for Sunday lunch. The food did not disappoint and was well presented and taste lovely. The Amelia was attentive to our table and we're well looked after by her during our lunch.

We were in Winchester for the first time with our dog and was recommended this pub by someone local. Being dog friendly we unsure about what it would be like inside but it was a lovely clean pub which was very welcoming. The staff provided a water bowl and treat for the dog and our food was really nice! The pub itself also has a terrace with heaters which look over the river. I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about coming here, especially if you have a dog :)

We were at Harvester Whiteley last night for a date night and it was great. Our server was Victoria and she was so lovely. When we needed help with something she went out of her way to help us and she was always just so happy and cheerful. We come to harvester regularly but since the new menu and food adjustments, the food was INSANE. We enjoyed it so much and would 100% recommend. Alongside this we did the £8 chicken Tuesday which is a great deal for saving money!!

This is my second stay at the Hotel du Vin in the last fortnight. The food in the Bistro has been consistently excellent both at breakfast and dinner. Equally so is the restaurant service which is attentive , caring and welcoming from all the staff. One member who really stands out is Alina who delivers superb customer service. Lovely very comfortable boutique hotel .

We had visited The White Horse in the past and enjoyed a more than acceptable meal. This time, I'm afraid to say that it was anything but . We booked the latest time which was 6pm (anything earlier and it would have been high tea. My parents and partner opted for the cod and chips, I had half a cauliflower, breadcrumbs in a leek, spinach, mustard sauce with caper and raisin purée. My parents enjoyed their fish and chips. My partner said the fish was just about cooked, but the batter was swimming in oil and not palatable at all. My cauliflower dish promised much, but delivered a dish that was predominantly mustard and cream. It was poorly balanced in my opinion. Regretfully, we shall not be returning.

My husband and I popped in for lunch on a wet, miserable Thursday on our way home from Winchester, the pub was extremely busy which we hoped was a good sign and although there were no tables available the two ladies in charge suggested if we have a seat at the bar a table might become available as some people were just ordering coffee, we were very happy we took their advice. The table did become available and we then enjoyed an extremely good lunch with both food and service being top notch.

Oh my god was expecting so much more I should have stuck to my usual in frankie and bennies Those two girls serving were so miserable why did they come in to work ? The service was so slow then food was literally thrown at us then when I asked for the bill I thought it was coming from China honestly I wouldn’t mind there was only 4 couples in there I think the staff are so miserable they should just leave no where as good as pizza express
