Great location adjacent to the river with an outside terrace. Large, clean establishment with a decent selection of beers and good bathroom facilities. A nice place to relax and have a drink but the prices were eye watering with a pint of Neck Oil £7.30.

Booked a Sunday 4.30pm slot for a late Sunday Lunch with my partner. Arrived early but table was ready within 5 minutes…. Pub was not busy. Was offered a menu within 5 minutes by friendly waitress and placed our order for some olives as nibbles and 2 Pork roast dinners for our mains. Within minutes our mains arrived with no sign of the olives so we told the waitress that we would like to cancel them. We were not offered a wine menu or asked if we needed any further drinks. We decided that we would like a bottle of wine to go with our meal so gained the attention of the waitress once again and obtained the wine menu. We had to again gain the attention of the waitress a few minutes later to place our order for a nice bottle of Provence Rose. We proceeded to eat our dinner which was very nice, although the Yorkshire Pudding was a little soggy and the roast potatoes could have been crisper, but nevertheless the food was very good! After 10 minutes or so we had still not received our wine, so again got the waitress’s attention to check on the order. About 5 minutes later we had still not received our wine so again had to gain attention of waitress to check. She said that the bar had had problems with drink orders, but the pub, although busier, was not busy, nor was the bar so did not know why this explanation was given. Eventually, we received our wine, but by this point we had nearly finished our mains, but nevertheless we did manage to enjoy half of glass of wine with our mains. After finishing our mains, our plates were cleared and we were not asked how our meal was, or indeed were not offered the dessert menu. After finishing the bottle of wine, we decided to have one more drink, but I did not have any faith in ordering to the table, based upon our experience so far as to how long it took for drinks to be delivered to the table. Therefore, I went to the bar and ordered from there and paid them direct. We enjoyed our last round of drinks and listening to the live entertainment on offer. And by this point the pub was busy and there was a good atmosphere. I asked for the bill which automatically included a 10% service charge. I did not feel comfortable in asking for the service charge to be removed from the bill and so we paid and left. So disappointed with this experience, as have been several times before for Sunday Lunch and was always very good. Overall, I highly recommend this pub for the quality of the food and the atmosphere, but the service, or lack of, on this occasion, did let it down.

visited for Sunday lunch - was one of nicest sunday roasts we have had. service was good and no delays - it was very busy so we were happy with how quickly we got our meals. I do think the 10% service charge automatically being added is wrong, whist I would (and always do) add tip (service charge), I feel this should be an option not automatically added. overall however we will go again as food quality was excellent.

Arrived at dinner to be seated straight away the waitress asked if we would like a drink And we all gave our drink’s orders drinks arrived within 5 mins and we were asked if we wanted to order we asked for a couple more minutes this turned into over 1 hour when a member of our party asked the waitress if we could order she said she would be over in a minute this took over 15min as we watched her put away glasses I think the only reason she came over is because she saw us looking over at her. Eventually we ordered our food and when the starters had arrived we were missing one starter and told it would come with the main meal we instantly said we did not want this now after our starters the waitress came over and asked if we wanted the dessert menu even though we hadn’t had our mains yet 5 min later another waitress came over and asked the same do we want the dessert menu we were like no thank you just our main meal. After all this time we had to ask the waitress several times if we could order another drink only for her to get the order wrong yet again and give us full fat coke instead of diet. We eventually received our main meal and the food was not great we ended up leaving most of the food and not one waitress came over to take our plates away after 30min of finishing our food we had to ask for the bill. Overall disastrous choice of restaurant/pub never to return again.

Having been here once before for Sunday lunch which we enjoyed, it was a shame that on our second visit we were disappointed. Four of us went for a birthday lunch. Starting with a positive, the mushrooms on toast starter was lovely. However, there were more negatives than positives. Service was slow, the wait for food even slower. Two of us each had the sausage board as a main course. That was very disappointing. We were expecting nice fresh bread with it, but the bread was sliced and a bit dry. It could’ve done with some butter too. Overall, just a dry meal. We asked for chips to share to go with the sausage boards, we never got them. The fish and chips and burger were ok, but nothing special. 2 courses each, 4 pints, a half pint and 2 soft drinks came to £161 with the compulsory service charge. Not worth it.

My husband & I were in Winchester for 1 night to break up a long drive to a funeral near the south coast. I am vegetarian & a very fussy eater anyway, so we'd researched ahead & found some food I'd like on their menu! We arrived in Winchester about half 3 & went straight there to book a table for half 6 (as it was a Friday.) The bar was very busy at half 3 & was still busy when we arrived just before half 6 & were shown to our table. We asked if they had any quieter tables further away from the bar (I'm autistic & very sensitive to noise) & they (understandably) said that they hadn't, as the tables not yet occupied had all been reserved- we were fine with this as it couldn't be helped! A minute later though, the manager/duty manager/ supervisor came over & offered us a table in the 'reserved' section (maybe the intended occupants weren't due for a good while?) bit explained that a party of 10 was expected at the next table along in about 40 mins time. After making sure we weren't "stealing anyone's table" or messing up a reservation, we opted for the 2nd table, right in the furthest corner from the bar 👍 I had the tomato bruscetta to start & the aubergine & sweet potato curry main- both were served quickly (despite the pub being busy) & were absolutely delicious! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his starter & meal too. The atmosphere of the place is very cheerful & we were so pleased to see customers bringing their dogs in (our dogs come everywhere with us but weren't allowed at the funeral venue we were on our way to, so were staying with my parents). Our waitress/server (Naimh) was a truly cheerful & friendly person & (especially as a fussy eater) it was the first time I'd eaten out without feeling like an inconvenience! She asked about our day & told us about some things to see & do in Winchester if we had the time & even seemed happy to see pictures of our dogs 😁 Overall- lovely place, lovely staff, lovely food- we are intending to come back to Winchester & will definitely be coming back to the Bishop on the Bridge!

I was there with a friend and a 4 months old baby. Although there were quite a few tables inside, they offered a table to us outside in the covered area. We thought that was ok because there was a rugby going on so probably ALL tables were reserved. Once outside, I asked if any table would become available to let us know. 2 min later a stuff member came and said there was one available but no space for the pram which we decided to stay outside. However, he very kindly offered a high chair for a 4 month old baby who can barely hold his own neck. I went inside to order food and seeing all the available tables decided to ask another member of the stuff if it was possible for us to sit inside. Again I was told EVERYTHING was reserved. At this point I was getting really upset because half of the pub was empty. I decided to ask another member of the stuff and explained we were having food and leaving so it wouldn’t be too long. She then replied that all bookings were coming in 30min. Ok, at this point I was really believing that the pub was going to be very busy soon and accepted the outside table. We had our food outside and when leaving, 1h later, guess what? The pub was still half empty. I called the manager and explained my disappointment with the situation and the lack of flexibility of the staff. His reply was that we were offered a table outside and decided to not take it, which I had to explain that his stuff said we couldn’t take the pram in. He said I should have called him at that point and he would have sorted it out. Interesting enough, a member staff briefed him about the situation before I went to speak to him. When 3 staff members have the same attitude, this a pub problem and not an isolated matter. Just absolutely lack of respect and flexibility!!!!

Stopped at the pub for drinks and to decide if we wanted lunch. We ended up eating across the road, but we enjoyed our time in this pub. Loved the fireplace; made it so cozy! It was packed with patrons and their pre-Christmas shopping. And there were some company Christmas lunches going so it was busy. The staff are friendly and make this pub. We’d love to return to sit outside and enjoy the river views. They’ve certainly got location in their favour and with a little extra effort this would all be excellent ratings. Keep going!

Venue appears to be clean with friendly bar staff and an ok selection. The problems begin if you haven't reserved a table in advance. The bar staff will be happy to serve you but if you haven't reserved a table, anywhere you stand will be an issue. Spent our time there being moved away from the no standing bar, no standing near the door to no standing anywhere. As a group we decided to depart. If you can play the castanets you'll do just fine but for otherwise it might be ok for a Monday afternoon in January or February I'm sure. Prices reflect theirs and the hospitality sectors delusions.

Visited for lunch on my 30th birthday. Ordered drinks and a roast dinner each with a side of pigs in blankets to share. Food came quite quickly. It was cold. We told a woman who we think was a manager and she was busy so said if we could give her 1 minute she’d send someone over. We waited for 15 minutes before someone came over. She then took our dinners and said she’d “get them heated up”. When they came back they had been in the microwave. Our meals looked exactly the same, a few bits gone etc. They still weren’t overly hot. We told the manager we didn’t want them, finished our drinks and left. Someone followed us out and asked us if we’d paid. We explained that we’d spoken to the manager and wouldn’t be paying for our 2 drinks. Way to ruin my 30th thanks!

Initially thought this pub was nice, it’s busy, bustling and the staff seemed friendly enough. The bar man was lovely and did his very best to make me a Winter aperol spritz advertised on the specials board but eventually had to settle for a standard one due to missing ingredients. Ordered our food of Haddock and chips at the bar and settled back to wait. Our food arrived pretty quickly and looked lovely, however one bite into the fish and I instantly knew it was off! It tasted terrible and smelt heavily of ammonia, a sure sign it had gone bad. I called the waiter over and told him, he looked at me in disbelief and I told him to smell it which he did and claimed he couldn’t smell anything. In fairness he offered me a replacement but no way would I eat here after this. I asked for a refund which I got, although still waiting for it to hit my account. Anywhere that sells fish that has gone bad is not ever going to get repeat business from me. We won’t be back but I suspect they really don’t care.

On entering the venue we had to wait 5 minutes for anyone to come over to be seated. When we were seated we were not given menus and my friend had to go and find someone to ask for some. When we wanted to order no one came over and there were a lot of staff milling around not taking any interest in customers. After 10 minutes of waiting to order my friend asked a member of staff as he went by. He clearly heard her as he rolled his eyes but he gave no acknowledgement to either of us. If it had not been for my friend I would have walked out there and then. The only redeeming feature of the whole experience was the lovely waitress and the food. We went for Lunch on Thursday as food and service at Bishop on the Bridge had always been so great. Unfortunately, over our past 2 visits, we will not be back. We entered via the main door and waited for around 10 minutes for someone to ask if we were wanting a seat, only to eventually just go an find a table ourselves. We waited again for a menu and had to go up to an employee who was busy on their phone, and ask for some menus. We assumed this was table service as some tables were getting their orders taken. Nope - we had to go to the bar to get this again. We ordered two cheese burgers and could not finish them. They were dry, had hard bits in them and really were quite horrible and overpriced. No one came to ask if we were fine with our food and the employee who had previously been on there phone earlier was only serving tables that appeared to be pre-booked. -- Overall the service was appalling and the food really quite bad and over priced.

Only slightly issue is that the drinks arrived after the food did, but to be honest the food was super fast - I assume with it being lunchtime, they had this like sausages cooked ready for sandwiches, and the drinks arrived a moment late. We had a really disappointing experience at The Bishop on the Bridge this afternoon unfortunately, I work in the industry and hate to leave a negative review, but it really was poor. On arrival I was kept waiting for several minutes for the host to finish a phone call - surely you want to make the best first impression on guests, and keep your bookings administration away from the host desk? With the current gas supply difficulties it was understandable the heaters were out of service. But paying almost £16 for 5 small chunks of lukewarm lamb on a fancy bed of salad is far less understandable... I literally couldn't believe that was what was being served at that price when the food came out. One of our party sent her lamb back and asked for a little more, as she only got 4 chunks. Which they did at least comply. At least 35 minute wait for food to arrive too, which is not terrible but not great on a quiet lunch service. Whilst the service started off well, we had to flag down a waitress to eventually take our food order, and that was the last we saw of a member of staff until we asked for the bill. No checkback, no clearing of plates, no requests for desserts/coffees. I chose this pub as it had good reviews on it's food and service, but unfortunately our experience was quite the opposite. Lovely location and setting on the river, but would not recommend.

It's with regret that I'd have to leave a negative review for this restaurant. The nicer more pleasant waiting staff were let down by the rather inefficient order of service and one particularly rude member of staff who was unjustifiably rude and argumentative. All of this would have been overlooked as our party were in far too good a mood to let this get us down. However several hours after eating our lunch one of our party came down with an illness and severe vomiting - this was most likely caused by muscles ordered for the main course.A detailed email has been written to the manager and the incident will be reported to the Food Standards Agency so hopefully will be avoided for future customers.Given that this restaurant as some good reviews, hopefully our experience was a one off, especially given the large number of high quality restaurants in the surrounding area which I have frequented many times and will be returning to next time.

Honestly how do you give negative stars?! Because if I could, I would.Booked a table for 6 for my birthday this evening at 6pm - around a month and a half ago and added a note that it was my birthday. The table we were supposed to be on hadn’t been cleared so they shoved us on a 4 table and stuck two chairs on the end. They expected 6 grown adults to sit and eat at a table for 4. We spotted a 6 that had just left and asked to move to that or for someone to add a table to make ours the 6 we had actually booked ‘no, we have other bookings’. Honestly such a disgrace of a place, staff couldn’t be arsed and didn’t care. Wouldn’t waste my money or time on this shambles ever again. Gross service. Gross attitudes. We visited here meeting up with family for some lunch. The weather was pouring down!! We didn't fancy walking round the city so asked if we could go inside ahead of our reservation. The pub was extremely busy but they found us a spot to have a drink until our table was ready. The staff were very welcoming and friendly dispite being so busy. I ordered the fish and chips, hand on heart it was the best pub fish and chips I've ever had (and I've had a fair few!!) Even the minted peas were excellent!! My 2 year old neice was with us and they gave her some warm milk in a special cup dusted with Coco which she loved!! A great afternoon and excellent food. Will be returning

I’ve only been in a couple of pubs since lockdown but this place has got it right. Staff on the door to welcome you where you are immediately told to sanitise you’re hands and check in for track and trace. They then show you to a table which are all well spaced apart and it’s strictly table service only. Nice and clean and the toilets were spotless. Why can’t all pubs be like this one and do what they are being asked to do. Thoroughly enjoyed a couple of drinks.Excellent.

This was our first meal out since lockdown. It was easy to book a table and we were seated quickly indoors. I ordered the salmon with salad - the salmon was good - well cooked and very tasty. The salad, on the other hand - was about as dull as you can get, quarters of tomato and a mountain of little gem lettuce and a bit of avocado. If there was any dressing it kept its head down. The meal was mediocre and we weren't tempted to stay for dessert.

The staff and atmosphere was good and safe, but for the prices, we thought the food would be better, Burgers over-seasoned and over-cooked, fried fish was over-fried , butter mil chicken was salty and we all received bit of fries rather than fries. We didn't bother with dessert.

A huge disappointment. On arrival despite there being over 10 empty tables inside (with no reserved signs on) the man positioned at the door made us feel that he was really putting himself out to do us a favour with plenty of tutting and sighing whilst he ‘squeezed’ us in. We were eventually seated in the far corner of the garden with 4 other empty tables around us (so not that hard to squeeze us in!) we ordered 2 roast beef and a roast chicken. We were then later informed that all the roast beef had sold out. Our meals finally arrived around 40 mins later. I had changed to haddock and chips. The haddock was over cooked with the batter being a very dark brown, the chips were disgusting. They were covered in black bruises. When we complained to the waiter he informed us they know about the chips, that they are constantly getting complaints but they can’t change their supplier due to COVID-19!! REALLY!!. There was no offer to change the meal but what’s most disappointing is that they know they are serving below standard food and carrying on. Sadly it didn’t end there. On leaving the restaurant we walked past two tables tucking into roast beef dinners! now as this was over an hour after we put our order in how did these customers have roast beef dinners that we were told had sold out!!

Lovely pub, pleasant staff. The food was excellent and well presented, I was disappointed the salmon and avocado arrived minus the avocado and took quite a long time for the avocado to arrive after requesting it. I would definitely return as the quality of food and varied menu is excellent

This was our very first trip out into a town for lunch with our 9 month old puppy. The information at the camp site listed the pub as being dog friendly but I didn’t quite know what that meant until I went in. We were one of several dining groups with a dog and when they said dog friendly they meant it - it wasn’t just an advertising ploy. Thoroughly enjoyed a late lunch with our two children. The food was tasty and service excellent. Whether it’s a limited menu owing to recent Covid events I’m not sure but a kids dessert menu would have been welcomed. Thank you

The waiting staff are second to none particularly a lovely young man called Eddie and a lovely young lady called Sharon. However the food was basic and not worth the price, the drinks were expensive and the managing staff rude and mistreating the other staff. The desserts are actually worth ordering unlike the rest of the menu. The selection of alcohol is impeccable however unaffordable unless you are willing to take out a bank loan. I visited on the 31st July and was blown away by the efficiency and kindness of the waiting staff, however the rest of the staff working that day left much to be desired. However I was impressed that they could seat me given that I had not booked and given the current circumstances.

My husband and I had a nice lunch out, friendly staff and warm atmosphere but felt a bit disappointed with the main and the overall price. We anticipated an increase in cost for the meal due to covid and location of pub/restaurant but the quality of food didn’t reflect the price. I’d highly recommend the yummy pate for starter and the sticky toffee pud but I was disappointed with the burger (beef) which was greasy and it was unlike me not to like a burger sauce. We’ve previously eaten here and the Sunday roasts were yum so maybe they’d be worth a go?

Greeted by a Karen who asked ‘why have you come’ ?? Never been greeted this way before. It seems on questioning the statement we were being asked if we wanted to eat, which we didn’t (4pm on a very hot Saturday afternoon). Much discussion with another member of staff later, it was decided there was a free table. Looking around the place it was about 25% full. Taken to a table but told to wait there, not to sit down. The table next to us a family of 4 was trying to get somebody’s attention to order desert. However it seems they had been joined by 2 extra people and Karen had to be summoned again as this was obviously not acceptable. We heard her tell all of them they would have to leave, seemed the staff were incapable of finding a solution, very rude.I then asked Karen if we could sit outside at one of the many free tables but was told they were all booked! We didn’t stay and left by going out through the garden to overhear a lone woman being told to leave the table she has sat down at and go to the front of the pub (she had obviously entered through the garden, something now obviously in Fullers mind is unforgivable). Noted that there were no Reserved signs on any of the tables. Will never return to a rude, badly trained and managed business. Will take my money elsewhere.

Visited this on the way from a short break in Dorset back to London. Very lucky to get a table on the terrace as pretty busy despite the slow emergence from lock down. Welcoming, friendly and efficient service. Pleasant surroundings to eat on a summers evening right beside the river Itchen. Reasonably priced meals which were well cooked, nicely presented and tasty. Gastropub fare but not too dainty not to satisfy. Everything very clean and the management and staff take care to ensure the operation is suitably 'Covid secure' without being over the top. As we were travelling there was no opportunity to sample the puddings or the alcoholic drinks but our experience of the Bishop on the Bridge was great overall. The food was fresh and delicious, and it was such a pleasure to enjoy a meal in lovely surroundings after so many weeks of lockdown. I was inspired to write this review by seeing a Greggs eating numpty slamming the place for price. Yeah, they're not cheap but you're paying for quality ingredients and an amazing product which is value for money. For less than a fiver you're getting a huge sweet treat with complex flavours, a very satisfying, delightfully flaky pastry and a very satisfying and filling experience. If you want a hit of sugar and bland white, air filled bread? There are cheaper options! You won't get a limp chicken pasty here. If you want extremely satisfying bread made with high quality flour and an amazing crust? If you want tasty, sweet pastries with a delicious zing? If you love good food rather than ultra processed? Then this won't bust your budget and will fill you up. The venue itself is a warehouse with some benches other branches are much nicer.
