The best restaurants in East of England

We came to celebrate my mums 80th, there were 15 family and friends and nothing was too much trouble from start to finish. Staff, food, ambience, all was 5* and I thank you all for your professionalism and for keeping the secret!! Well done x

Food is top-notch fantastic cafe the waitresses are very complacent and been there a long time you take your life in your hands one day they are nice the next day they are miserable not happy at all just ok and goodbye my mum is in a care home in Clacton and I visit once a week a news Davies as the food is nice but staff not so good

The highlight of our dinner was daal tarka. Other than everything else was okay. The disappointment was chicken momo - it was chicken in a wrap. Who calls it momo? It's a chicken wrap.

They gave me Ligma. Which made me go erm what the sigma.

Son had his wedding blessing here, together with bridal breakfast, evening reception and breakfast following day (hired several of the cottages as well as rooms in the main hotel - they couldn't be faulted.) Food was exceptional, so full from the breakfast ( huge home made burgers, chicken breast and BBQ with sides that beat anything I'd had in my previous 60 years), bars in events venue and main hotel, care from staff couldn't be faulted. With a walk through the gardens to the river at the end so see the broads boats go by while enjoying the sun, prior to the evening events. Guests enjoyed the more lively evening when the sound system was cranked up, before those who had to make their way to other places started leaving. Following morning breakfast was more than ample to get through to evening, a buffet bar plus cooked to order menus, full English was good, or a mountain of scrambled egg on toast with a thick large sliver of salmon as the roof. Highly recommend

Went for afternoon tea to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. The food was ok, but not inspiring. Mediocre sandwiches, with lack of cress in egg sandwiches. Scones were pleasant but a lack of fruit in fruit scones. Panacotta was just cream with one blueberry on top. Other cakes were just plain and chocolate sponges, and very small. Coffee was good. Our main complaint was The lack of disabled facilities, although advertised as present. No disabled parking and 3 builders vans were taking up space. Even a member of the office staff was parked in the small car park. We had to park in the overflow to the overflow car park which was 4-500 metres from the entrance. If our tea had not already been paid for we would not have stayed. We are both disabled and find it difficult to walk. The ground was muddy and too uneven to use our wheelchairs On entering the building we had to go to the far side of the reception area, which was dark and negotiate two steps down on a dark floor with no safety markings. Then along a corridor and down 2 more steep steps into the dining area. No help was offered and in fact, staff laughed when we said it had been a struggle to get there.

Really great Indian. Chilli chicken and butter chicken were superb. The service is amazing too. Great atmosphere, great curry

Our first visit on a recommendation from a friend. It was my father’s 96th birthday! We were very well looked after by the attentive staff. The fixed price lunchtime menu was interesting and I could have chosen all the courses. In fact the three of us did chose all three of the starters between us and all were excellent. We all had the fish course which was also very well presented, beautifully cooked and very tasty. We will certainly return!

Scraps of potatoes for chips & a large red lipstick mark on my coffee cup. In this climate no excuse for dirty cups.

Beautiful setting, gorgeous food and fantastic staff, very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they are very down to Earth yet professional. They made our evening. Wonderful people, highly recommend.

We were a bit put off by the name. Aldeburgh Market conjured up an image of a cafe inside an actual market. But needs must, and they could seat us at short notice on a Saturday evening, so we went there. And it's not like a cafe in a market at all. It's a very smart modern restaurant, small but it also has tables on the pavement outside. Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is really great, what's not to like? We far preferred it to the Lighthouse and Suffolk sur Mer. So much so that we returned a few nights later

We always stop at Brantford s when we stay at the east coast. It's the start of our break when we get to branfords. I can recommend the crispy chilly beef as I always have it when we visit. It's a nice location and everyone is friendly.
