Mirra in Colchester

I really don't know where these good reviews are coming from. The prices are high. The portions are getting smaller every year I went. The food was so salty we could barely stomach it 😩 . Needs to be sorted .

Awful, AWFUL, shameful, terrible scammers... I'm originally Turc, this place it could be whatever but nothing related to Turkish gastronomy... Just a single dish and bottle of water, he charged me 2£ for the tea which is complementary in ALL Turkish restaurants, and the bill was 27£, even in downtown London it would not cost that... The bread was just heated by microwave, so hard after some instants... I have even vomited from such disgusting scammers 😵‍💫🤮

Mummer was my host and he made my birthday celebration amazing! I would definitely recommend Mirra for your birthday celebration!

Our 2nd visit to Mirra and it didn't disappoint! Absolutely amazing staff, the best service and food is just out of this world! Great traditional atmosphere. The wonderful guy who looked after us (i think his name was Mo?) Was just amazing, couldn't do more for us, as all the other staff. Can't wait to go back 🍹🍸👏🏼

Spontaneous visit last night to a restaurant we have never been to. Food was really delicious the atmosphere was great with a full house for a normal Wednesday ( which tells it's own story) and Brendan ensured the service was impeccable. He was super lovely and efficient. We will be back!!!

Overpriced, overrated and disappointing experience. Came here last week for my daughter's 21st. We found the service to be unfriendly and unattentive, many waiters standing around doing nothing, when we left nobody opened the door or wished us goodbye. The food to be reasonable, however i paid £25 for the Mirra special and my lamb was very chewy. My daughters pornstar cocktail was £12 and was sickly sweet and unpleasant to drink. Our bill was a lot higher than we were expecting. W thought it was very overpriced and overated.

I had a takeaway so can only speak for that, but what a good choice this place was! When I went to pick up my food, the staff were so welcoming and friendly, held the door open, smiled, had a little chat and it was a very nice experience. The food itself was awesome! I love my Persian food and this was top notch. The livers were divine, very nice flavour and not irony at all. The lentil soup was also great, loads of dried mint and herbs that made it very flavourful yet not too oily. The bread portion was huge to mop it up as well, which made the whole thing very filling and worth the price. I also had couscous and cacik, both classics and both very nice once again. This place is great, and hopefully I’ll be back to experience the food even fresher and in person!

Was there last Saturday evening. Lively atmosphere for all sorts of groups. The open plan kitchen created more theatre. Above all the food was outstanding. But you need to book.

We had the weekday lunch menu which offered great value. It's a fixed price menu for starter and main course but there is still a wide choice of dishes. The food was well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Our particular favourite was the sigara borek. We also felt the wine list offered some good value options. Service was friendly and efficient and the restaurant has a nice ambience.

Visited on Friday lunch time for the Special 2 Course Lunch Deal, great value for money, and delicious food, top notch service. Highly recommended.

Good food and good flavours in a lively restaurant with attentive staff and a good atmosphere , pity about one very loud drunk man who was a pain and should have been told to leave as there was a 10 year olds birthday party there and his language wasn't the best but he wasn't which is why it only got 4 stars , pity really

We enjoyed the calamari as it was done just right. The decor was nice and staff was attentive . We were looked after well by Ilios . It was a hot summer day and we were able to eat alfresco style as they had the big doors open .

I've eaten in a lot of restaurants Mirra has got to be one of, if not THE, most friendly! We'd never been there before but were greeted and treated like old friends, they were all just so amazing!!! We often opt for Turkish when we're away because as a vegetarian I know that there will be a large and interesting selection of vegetarian options: Mirra definitely doesn't disapoint on this one. My wife and I had a selection of half a dozen items from the small plates and appetizers section of the menu, and for us that was just about the right amount of food. We had a couple of aubergine options, some halloumi, some feta parcels.... It was all fantastic. With a combination of food and service like that, you really can't go wrong

Great Turkish Restaurant. Stylish decor, immaculately clean. Service was professional, polite and very accommodating. (Special mention for our waiter Mummer ) Only restaurant we’ve ever been to twice in one day. Lunch and dinner.

Food was really good but the restaurant was filthy, bits of oily food left on the chairs which has left a stain on my top that won't come out. Toilets had no toilet paper in (most of it was on the floor) the staff were so unwelcoming and two of them squared up to each other in the middle of the restaurant and had to be separated by other members of staff, which was really awkward. We tried to raise all of this when we paid the bill but the waiter wasn't interested and couldn't wait to get away from us (or at least that's how it felt).

We came in after my sisters graduation and what a vibe! The party continued! The staff went above and beyond in welcoming us, they were so kind and a lot of fun, they had us up dancing to celebrate and brought my sister and the other graduates a surprise desert out. The food was lovely, with a large choice on the menu and the drinks were incredible with attention to detail in presentation. Would recommend and can’t wait to visit again

We were here for my 'significant' birthday. The staff went to such a lot of trouble to make us all feel welcome. They played birthday music as my cake came out and the waiter even made me a paper rose. The food was delicious as always.

Very friendly, attentive staff and food to die for! Absolutely outstanding in my opinion. The restaraunt is welcoming and very clean and the staff very engaging.

Visited for a late lunch, we were greeted by Ozzy on arrival and immediately seated. We were served at our pace, not hurried nor did we have to wait. Our food was impeccable and served at the correct heat. We will be visiting this establishment again when in town.

I had a small party after a christening, and we went upstairs, everything was booked in advance. The staff was very nice, professional, upstairs looks amazing,was a very great experience overall, definitely coming back.

We went for my dad’s birthday and had a really enjoyable experience! All the waiters were really lovely and helpful the minute you walked in! They brought out a cake and had a dance for my dad’s birthday and we were all crying of laughter! Definitely a birthday to remember. Food was pretty good aswell, will definitely come back!

Very good food excellent service

Rude waitor who would not bring bread & Homous unless we ordered the mains although we have already had drinks ( were going to pay obviously). We were all doctors from NHS and it was weird for him to say that he won't bring anything till we order mains. Food wasn't good either and too pricey.

the best Turkish food I've had in England. Imam bayildi perfect. Succulent squid in the lightest of crispy batters. Borek delicious as was the cacik. Family run restaurant - Turkish not Cypriot. Friendly ambience. Wish I lived nearer so I could have it as my local eaterie.

Beautiful food, excellent service, very reasonable price - fancy but not over priced! We have been here as a family of 4 and as a group of 8. Both times we were made to feel very comfortable, service was quick and efficient. We will definitely be back!

The quality of the food here is top-notch. Huge menu, reasonably priced. The portions are massive, and everything tasted really fresh and beautifully spiced.

Would not recommend. Gives you leftover beer of other customers by refilling the bottles. Saw it myself. Bartender was refilling the bottles.

Love this place, super friendly staff full of engery. Food is amazing, never a bad meal here. Mixed shish is delicious. Turkish pizza is a must... unless they have run out. Brilliant for family's with a good appetite would highly recommend the mixed sharing meal

Excellent service and food even on very busy Friday night.

I came here for my sisters birthday and the staff were rude. The waiter was very miserable and he didnt even bother to say happy birthday to my sister despite the fact she was wearing her birthday badge, and overall the vibes he gave off were kind of ruining the experience. Im not saying he had to be overly happy but the least you can do is be kind to customers and atleast crack a smile or something if you want an extra £10 for the service cost lol. Overall the food was good but the moody staff kinda ruined the vibe

Walked in off the street at 6pm on a Saturday night and managed to get a table.Busy place which was a sign that the food was good, and it wasn't bad. Had a mixed kofte, a little chewy but not bad. The staff were attentive. The surroundings were really nice and the upstairs looked really good with round velvet booths and the decoration of hanging flowers. If I was in Colchester late I would go again. Prices weren't too bad, what annoyed me was that the service charge was added to the bill. I feel that the tip should be left for the customer to decide.

Really enjoyed our meal last week, great atmosphere, really tasty food. I had the fish stew and it was absolutely delicious, I'll definitely be going back soon. This restaurant is a little on the pricey side however definitely worth it for a treat.

After a trip to the Curzon cinema we fancied something to eat and opted for the nearby Mirra. The staff were very helpful and created a table for 5. We are all vegetarian but there was a lot of choice. We each had a starter, the aubergine was cooked perfectly. My wife wanted a change to the items in her starter and they were happy to oblige. I then opted for the vegetarian moussaka. It was lovely. The portion was so big that I couldn’t finish it and the staff were happy to box it up for me. We had a very active 3 year old with us and he spent the time playing and singing. The staff were very good and one waiter magically made a lolly pop appear once he finished his meal. A little later another waiter gave him a paper rose which he loved. The experience was great and the food lovely. Thank you Mirra.

Sorry but if your a foodie and know your food quality this place isn’t for you, my prawns were defrosted not fresh, my minced lamb meatballs were like cannon balls not at all tender or flavoured it’s the first time ever I didn’t eat a meal despite them seeing this they didn’t attempt to refund me or swap the dish. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great but as I say it’s cheep meat and defrosted seafood wouldn’t return

Oh people of Colchester, you have a treasure so keep an eye on it! I lived in Türkiye for quite long time and been to so many high profile restaurants and cities (Adana and Gaziantep), therefore, satisfying my taste in Turkish food abroad was nearly impossible until I found Mirra! In short, they are absolutely authentic, original, high quality and 5 star restaurant from the food quality, portion size and taste to the generosity and hospitality! Ordered two takeaways and just now finished my Adana Kebab, absolutely delicious and original! They even went further and added a sweet gift to the bag (see the photo). THANK YOU! Was at Mirra for dinner today.Seabass I ordered was tasting wierd , it was rotten and smelling. They apologised and changed the dish as any person with normal olfactory senses can smell the rotten odour. I have been to Mirra many times and will never step in again.
