The best restaurants in East of England

Have visited several times and it’s a firm favourite of mine. Can’t book but the queue goes relatively quick as there are a lot of tables inside. Favourites of mine have been the soup and sandwich and the egg baguette. So many choices of cakes, best one to date has been the Bakewell cake plus there are several vegan options. Only small niggle is the hot drinks are small for what you pay and also don’t keep hot in the earthenware crockery.

Called in for breakfast with my children, we had: the full Horatio’s, tea cake, bacon sandwich and a sausage sandwich. All looked great, my meal was very good, and the coffee was Spectacular! Very clean and pleasant cafe.

Love this place - 1st time there. 23 of us for my daughter's 21st and the staff were amazing - nothing was too much for them and I asked for a lot!!!! They really helped me to make this a special occasion. Food also amazing - everybody enjoyed their meal. We had a great night. Thank you to all the staff but special thanks to Otman and Claudia - you are the best!

Great place to stay, lovely food and great atmosphere.

Nice vibe with friendly staff and good music. Very good quality drinks Update: please bring back the delicious tuna melt! Understandably very popular. Flat white & vanilla matcha are favourites. We eat here regularly- brunch/lunch reliably delicious. Open some evenings with burgers pizzas & small plates. Occasional events.

After returning to the UK after a reasonable absence and getting some terrible customer service - the staff at The Angel were a refreshing change and lovely to chat with. Rooms are good - maybe a little expensive but not enough o mark them down and the breakfast was delicious. Perfect location!

Another great family Xmas meal at the Dooley. Kelly and the tea cannot be faulted. Great food, great service, superb ambience in a terrific pub. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. Well done all involved 👏👏

Brilliant food the best curry I've ever had.

Think I dropped unlucky on my visit, the chips weren't fresh cooked although plentiful. The batter on the fish was thick and soggy. I'm hoping my visit wasn't typical of the usual standard . The lady behind the counter was very friendly but with the economic crisis going on people have to vote with their feet and I'm going to be more careful I'm getting value for money

Extremely underrated pub for food. Doesn’t look like much when you go in, but the food is nothing short of spectacular. You can really feel the love that goes into the cooking. Always get one of the specials! Really fantastic independent pub food. Can’t recommend highly enough.

This was my first visit, and I was not disaapointed. The pub is lovely and traditional and the greeting was warm and inviting. We had booked for the 3pm second sitting for Sunday Lunch. The service was brilliant - great friendly staff, knowledgeable regarding the menu, and very efficient. Now the food...wow! Some nice choices for starters (my gochujany chicken with ginger and cabbage slaw was delicious) and the rack of pork was probably the best pub roast I've ever had - melt in the mouth meat, with all the trimmings...and no skimping on portion size! It was a struggle to choose dessert as we were all feeling full...rude not to, so we did anyway! We were there for a birthday, and the staff very kindly brought out icecream and sparkler when they found out and sang Happy Birthday. We'll definitely be back!

Nice pub just outside the city centre. Good selection of local beers and a nice, friendly atmosphere.

The food was delicious, well presented and in sensible but not meager portions. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. Overall everything you could want for an enjoyable meal out. Also the prices were very reasonable.
