We have eaten here quite a few times and the food is always delightful. Great portions, really friendly and kind staff and the atmosphere is lovely for a date night or lunch with friends. Can't fault the service, top notch!

Not our usual PRIME, that’s Chandlers Cross, but here for a wine pairing menu with Matin Codex wines. Great evening, great service (as usual) but as all staff were ‘wine trained’ it meant everyone was knowledgeable, the food was nicely paired, and all Martin Codex wines were new to us. Great value, still unsure who was being promoted Prime of Martin codex (great introduction to Prime) as most wines not commonly available?

This was a repeat visit to Prime to celebrate a family birthday. As before the service was great and the quality of the food exceptional! The seafood tower starter is amazing!

We had a lovely experience. We arrived late by 15 mins but were made to feel very welcome. My requested special touches for our anniversary were exactly as planned, all staff were attentive but a special mention goes to our waitress on the night who was wonderful. She is clearly very good at her job as she gave us space to talk and have a really nice evening together, but never let us feel as if we were forgotten. The food was as magnificent as recommended, the porterhouse steak to share was perfectly cooked and the sides were a touch of class. We had a cheese platter to finish and despite this not being an ideal choice ….. the chefs managed to incorporate a happy anniversary scribed plate. The place felt busy and the atmosphere was warm and buzzing. Not an easy feat on a rainy Monday night so the management clearly know what they are doing. As an operations manager with a brewery/gastro pub and a training background also - I find it hard not to switch off and be spotting things. The best compliment I can pay is simply this…. I have not relaxed over a meal in this way in a very long time. Nothing to report other than admiration and thanks. Keep doing what you’re doing

After being served with the worst steak I’ve had in 30 years (large strip of fat, thick sinew through the steak, and tasteless) the experience was compounded by a defensive manager, who’s only solution was to ‘remove it from the bill’, no sorry that’s not the standard we strive for, instead an attempt to fob us off with we don’t know before we cook it! Surely that’s part of the reason we pay £30+ for a steak (at a steak restaurant) that would cost £10 from a good butcher, and I understand we can’t be perfect all the time, but admit to your mistakes, and put the customer first, something from tonight’s experience they have lost touch of.

Once again another excellent experience at Prime. St Albans branch is probably my favourite just because the restaurant is a lot bigger than the others. Excellent food and service.

We visited for a graduation celebration and booked a table for 8 of us. We enjoyed the lunch menu. The portions were massive, but of good quality and value. The waiters were attentive but not too pushy and left us to enjoy our time there. We didn’t feel rushed at all. The restaurant was very quiet but we had a great meal and will definitely be back

Really poor Sunday roast, somewhere between dry and stale would best describe their roast potatoes, meat (I had the trio) was also worse than average. Had hoped for a much better experience considering their prices are almost double some local pubs, which provide far a better standard of food and friendlier service. Apart from the decor, this place needs to completely up their game. So many better alternatives locally for steak and roasts.

We ate at Prime a few weeks back and received an amazing service from one of their staff, I think he was called Mark. There was some confusion about a special offer which was entirely our fault so we didn't raise it as an issue (which would have been uncalled for anyway). Despite not mentioning it, Mark must have seen our confusion and knocked a good amount off the bill. Such exceptional service deserves a mention. p.s. The food was pretty good too - but nothing unusual there. :-)

Not the experience I was expecting. Firstly the air conditioning was on so it was colder inside than out, secondly I asked for my fillet steak to be cooked well done, only to be advised by the waiter to have it medium to well done, he reassured me there would be no blood, but there was some. Also the prices that you see on the menu are without vat added, they add that on at the end with the service charge, so in my opinion over £109 for 2 steaks, 2 drinks an a starter to share is overpriced. As for the service, the waiter even tried to remove the plate from the table whilst my partner was still eating.will not be visiting there again.

Visited for lunch and although the restaurant was only a quarter full the service was so slow. The food took ages and the staff did not check on drinks /filling up water. Had to ask a few times for things and they were not busy. It was really expensive for what it was, such a shame as it used to be so good

Up-market steak restaurant in St Albans with very professional, courteous service and elegant surroundings.

Food average. Peppercorn sauce lacked any pepper, more like school gravy. Much vaunted chips a tasteless let- down. "Discretionary " tip inserted into bill without asking, so you are paying vat on a tip you didn't agree to. Tips should be at the customer's discretion. I gave them my feedback when asked. Their response? They sent the same form requesting my feedback.

It’s been a while since our last visit, at the time it wasn’t great. Some years later and today we returned for lunch and we were to be pleasantly surprised. Fantastic food, excellent staff, our waiter Luke couldn’t do enough for us and even included a Birthday treat. All in all a fantastic experience with delicious food and good sized lunch time portions. Thank you.

A relative of mine moved recently in that area and we was searching for steak.And we end up at Prime Steak & Grill ( now I am thinking to move in that area cause of that place ).the food it was amazing the atmosphere the drink well presented amazing taste . And the host ( Alex at the time .he make as feel like home) highly recommended!!!

Enjoyed a great fillet Steak at Prime. Staff were attentive and had remembered from the booking form it was my friends Birthday. They presented her with a lovely Birthday dessert which was an unexpected treat. A really lovely night out.

Did not enjoy. Lovely food let down by apathetic service, felt totally ignored. Took nearly 15 minutes to get water and menus, total was 2hrs 30 for our meal. Kept being ignored with empty water glasses or if we needed anything. Gave us dessert menus when asked then walked off and started cleaning, so we sat waiting for another 20. Served by Ali Salim, and felt very unwelcome. Maybe upstairs where the manager is is nice, but downstairs was a shambles, tucked away and forgotten. Shame, as the steaks were great, as we're starters and puddings.

One of the fancier and better steak places in St Albans if you are willing to pay the premium, as deserved. We had a delicious steak and our service was helpful too.

We came for our 1 year wedding anniversary - the staff were very attentive, food and drink fabulous as always. We celebrate big occasions here and tonight was even more special than usual. Thank you

Superb food, great service and very pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Meal out with family for my son's birthday - who enjoyed the Tomahawk immensely, as did I!

I picked this place on a whim to take my partner out for a nice meal and I'm very glad I did! Although a bit pricey they definitely make up for it in taste and service! Maja was attentive and very nice and all of the food we ordered was so tasty! Thank you very much for a very nice meal.

We chose this place for my mom's birthday as we had heard they do a good Sunday roast. 🍖🍴 Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling up to eating steak, so I decided to opt for sea bass. 🐟 The sea bass came with a creamy but bland sauce all over it. 🤢 It wouldn't have been so bad if the fish had been seasoned with a bit of salt. 🧂 Everything was very bland. 😞 In my opinion, the sauce should have been served on the side for those who may not like the taste of the sauce. 😒 The truffle and parmesan cheese were delicious. 😋 My sister enjoyed her steak and triple-cooked chips. 🥩🍟 My dad didn't seem impressed with the chicken breast he ordered, and he added a ton of salt and pepper, then asked for ketchup. 🍗🧂🍅 He didn't even have any chips; that was just to add flavour to the chicken. 🤨 Other than that, the staff and atmosphere were great. 👍 It was just a shame about the food. 😞

Sirloin stake was flavoursome the non alcohol berry cocktails was nice and refreshing service was lovely 10/10. The sharing dessert was on the small size, a bit disappointed, but overall, would go again

Great steakhouse, nicely out the way of the main high street in St Albans. Steak was cooked perfectly, highly recommend the Prime Scotch Egg to start aswell. Decent selection of Whiskey on offer which was nice.

Fantastic food and service was amazing

Not wanting to brag but I've loved my steak since I was a boy...Fillet steak was my main birthday present when I was 10! So, now, about 45 years later I've had a few more steaks and... this was the best fillet I've had since then. That seared charcoal taste is something I've never been able to master as home and no restaurant has come close either. Perfectly rare and, as the cliché goes, just melted in the mouth with a beautiful flavour. Our waiter, Luke, was fantastic too. Funny, attentive and with great advice...the parmesan and truffle fries did go perfectly. I'm hoping my son, who's birthday it was, remembers this as well as I remember my 10th!

Fantastic steak ! We went in for lunch/ dinner time, it was empty however we did go in at an in between time. This however did not affect service as the waiter we had was extremely lovely, very attentive and helpful. The waiter treated us to Parmesan cheese scones on the house which was a pleasant surprise, accommodating for the gluten allergies too! We all ordered a ribeye and it was melt in your mouth incredible - one of the best steaks we’ve ever had. Would 100% recommend! :)

Great father's day lunch. I understand why they had a smaller select menu and food was good. They know how to cook a steak there. St Albans is much better than the berkhamsted branch, I am afraid - as is Chandlers Cross They have retained a lot of staff who are very friendly and efficient.

The food was really nice & portions were well sized. Our waiter Luke was very friendly and gave great recommendations.

So, we came yesterday for a meal, and to be honest, for an up market steak house I was disappointed. The presentation of your steaks is terrible. Just meat on a plate with no garnish. I had the pork belly however and that was tasty. But 5 out of 6 people just had an empty plate with some meat, isn't really good enough. And with a £350+ bill.

Had a very good meal (pork belly) wifey had sausage and mash loved it, very attentive staff, recommend it.

Very good service and the food was excellent. We went at lunchtime and the place was hardly bouncing but we enjoyed it nonetheless. It's about 5 minutes walk from The Maltings car park. There is time limited parking outside. Recommended.

We had a family meal here to celebrate our wedding a couple of weeks ago. From the moment of booking the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. One of our family members has difficulty hearing but we were sat in a nice quieter area downstairs so that she could feel included. The set menu was absolutely outstanding, delicious food and very good portion sizes! The staff also did the perfect level of checking on us enough to feel well looked after (but not where it’s too much) and were super friendly / chatty too. They even took a bottle of wine off the bill as a gift! We will definitely be returning and recommending to others. Thank you!!!

Always absolutely love coming here, the service is amazing and you really realise the attentiveness of the staff compared to other places. The food also was fantastic!!! Will definitely come back time and time again

Great experience. Lovely team who accommodated every request and great food. Only thing I would say; I’d everything seemed to be lacking in the salt department (but there’s salt on the table) and the there’s mould build up in the men’s hand dryer so I didn’t want to use it.

Prime was great!🙌🏼 Luke, our server, was super insightful with a range of fantastic recommendations including the wine, starters and mains. The Chateaubriand was perfect, med-rare as per the chef's recommendation. Add some triple-cooked chips, cream spinach and the CARE Tinto Sobre Lias and you are in very good company👌🏼. If you do decide to go there, trust me, ask for Luke.

Spectacular as ever. As a rule I only ever eat steak in a steak restaurant and going to Prime reminds me why. The menu has changed slightly and they have removed my favourite halloumi starter which was a pity but the scotch egg was a decent replacement. All 3 of us then had the fillet steak each cooked to perfection. A lovely evening in beautiful surroundings.

What a great experience for the first time visiting. Heard so much about this place so booked for my wife's birthday and on arrival the staff were very welcoming. The service was first class and the food was amazing, especially the starters. Complementary cheese scones went down a treat too. We all shared our starters which were all cooked to perfection and my favourite was the Bao Buns. Three of us had steaks and my son had the only burger on the menu which was the only disappointment of the evening as it was slightly over cooked and lacking flavour. Steaks were cooked great and would recommend having the Garlic Butter with it to add flavour. Will definitely be going back. Recommendations, Starters - Bao Buns or Salt and Pepper Calamari, Main - Porterhouse Steak, plus a must have side dish would be the Mac & Cheese, the best I've had eating out 👌🏾.

Decided to book for 10 of us for a family celebration and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were given a warm welcome by many staff members and shown to a “private area” table was nicely laid and water and drinks were immediately offered. Our other family then arrived and jackets taken and we were all seated. We chose to have al ala carte and we had some fussy (older) guests that were more demanding and the waiter managed to deal with the politely, calmly and professionally. The food all came up and every one really enjoyed their choices, 10 starters, 10 mains inc sea bass, large sharing and individual steaks as well as a Sunday roast and all was sublime, cooked to perfection. A really enjoyable 3 hours with good food, fine wine and some great memories to take away. Well done to the Prime team.

Me and my friends came for bottomless brunch. Our waiter Anis was fantastic - very attentive, great fun and made sure we always had a cocktail. Probably the best waiter we have ever had! Food definitely hit the spot. Would recommend to all.

Great food, despite the place not being that busy, we waited a while for our orders to be taken. Three of us was going to have the roast, but we were told they had just run out! On one hand i think its expensive but ok for a special occasion.

we came as a group of six for a works meal and it was excellent we enjoyed the meal a great deal . The restaurant is modern and gives a sense of prime dinning . we had starters and main and two bottles of wine on the table and we really couldn't fault the food or the service. waiters where knowledgeable about the food and wine list and in all added to the experience of the night . I would 100% come again .

Awesome service and meal. My wife ordered a rump steak which was a bit disappointing and she asked to switch it for a fillet steak. The way they handled the miss-order was excellent. The waitress gave an estimate of the time it would take to get a new steak and brought it with a hot fresh serving of chips and sauce.

Wonderful restaurant in middle of St Albans. Every dish was fantastic: we ordered buffalo wings, Mac n cheese, steak and prawns. The service was also faultless. Reminded me of one of the cosy restaurants in the Cotswolds. Overall great value as well.

This is a great steak restaurant in St Albans. We were here for a birthday, big group in the basement restaurant - the food was very good all round, great quality and ample quantity - the service was excellent with the server paying particular attention to the kids in the group. Well done guys.

I spent a lovely evening at Prime Steak and Grill for Valentine's Day. The service was excellent, however in my opinion the food was short of what I would expect for this price range. My partner and I shared a tomahawk steak, which was both overcooked (we asked for medium, it was medium-well) and under seasoned. I had to salt and pepper each slice. The sides and sauces were adequate and the dessert was tasty, but nothing was outstanding. At over £50 per person, my expectations weren't quite met. Nonetheless, we still had a lovely experience at the restaurant.

We've been here a few times now, and the food and service are always great. The steaks are reasonably priced for excellent quality, properly cooked (i.e. cooked right based on how you order it!) The sides are a little hefty on the price for what they are, comparable to central London steak restaurants, but the steak is the centrepiece, those are well priced and delicious, and I doubt you'll leave without feeling satisfied. All round, thoroughly recommended.

Very tasty fillet steak I had. I was a bit dissapointed when the big plate with only steak arrived. ( no garnish at all- in other restaurants they usually serve steak with at least slice of tomato, mushroom and some green leaves). But in generall great piece of meat done to my requirements.

Came here to celebrate getting a new job. The starters were fabulous! The wine is very good! The steak isn't that great, if you're a steak lover! My first steak was overcooked and the 2nd one I had was quite dry. The chips were nice, the mash and creamed Spinach were ok. Margarita as a host was fantastic! She made sure we felt understood and listened to! She's a fabulous host and we will visit again, to try something else just because of her! Thanks Margarita!

Great steak , wine and service We had a party of 5 , 1 vegetarian. All types of steaks and almost every side dish and starter ordered. All were perfect , time between courses , amount of food. Can’t fault a single thing Oh and the Malbec was lovely too

We had a nice dinner ,but the main point was the wine offer they are running now ,for any 2 steaks you can get a bottle of wine for free .Steaks cooked to perfection , service spot on and professional like always. Will be back .
