Molen's in St Albans

Fantastic place. Massive portions. I would say it does the best breakfast in St Albans. The place was clean, tidy and the staff were welcoming. My only complaint would be the noise. It is a very noisy cafe... Because it's so popular. The radio was definitely not needed and just added to the background noise which is annoying if you want to ha e a nice conversation or simply some peace

Great food. Big portions. Be prepared to take some home! Freshly made food using fresh ingredients. Well presented. Staff are lovely, helpful and courteous. They will do their best to accommodate your needs. Good meeting place. Well worth a visit.

First time visit with my daughter at lunchtime, 25th July. Had a really good allday breakfast and a jacket potato with salad. Amazed at how large the servings were and all well cooked and tasty. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely visit again.

Definitely still the best Brekkie in St Albans. We have been trying a few alternatives recently but nothing has beaten this yet.

We keep coming back to this Cafe. Best place in St Albans for a good traditional English breakfast, where you will pay a sensible price, and get a decent portion. Service always good and friendly, and quality of the food is excellent. Good variety on menus, not just for breakfast.

Went in today to have lunch with my family. Had the special breakfast was delicious! The staff were really helpful and made us feel welcomed. Will definitely be back again!

Sat outside for coffee and cake with friend. Had asked for cake and 2 plates (cake portions are large). The waiter came out with the cake on one plate and when I (very nicely) told him that I'd asked for two plates he tutted, turned on his heel and went straight back inside without a smile or apology. Politeness costs nothing and this should be a given in a place where you are serving the public. Quite expensive too.

Unfriendly, miserable staff service especially from it's waitresses. Food isn't amazing either. Only come in very occasionally as I'm a motorcycle courier and the reviews overall are definitely getting worse.

Girl preparing food was not wearing her mask properly - her nose was uncovered! We asked her to put it back on at which point she gave us a dirty look and did not apologise, and when we left she pulled it back down!! There is no point wearing a mask in that case. Please sort this out! It’s disgusting and disrespectful, and most importantly, she is putting your customers at risk!

I heard good stories about this place, so I gave it a try, ordered seafood club sandwich (with prawns and Crab) i got a Crabstick and the cheapest prawns you could buy, all drowning in Seafood sauce, the same for the chicken escalope bap special, Description was "escalopes" it was a very small cheap and nasty quality escalope with a bit if salad. BOTH of the above were £10 each and were not worth £2! This place is the most overhyped place in the area and I would not touch it again. If you want cheap below average food and like paying ridiculously prices for cheap bog standard then this is for you. If not, then steer well well clear

Quite often use Molens for a lunchtine sandwich. They are always freshly made and deep filled. I will be back

I popped into Molen’s for a takeaway coffee and was really surprised to see three staff, two not wearing any mask & one wearing a mask under her nose. There was no screen between staff and customers. The tables are not distanced, no hand gel in sight and stream of workmen coming in with no masks on.

A great place to get breakfast ,lunch or dinner. Nice and clean ,good service and reasonable prices . Free parking outside . Recommend the sausage egg and bacon sandwich.

The second time I have been to this cafe and the staff are downright rude and miserable. Unfriendly atmosphere and donot take card only cash. (NOT DISPLAYED ANYWHERE).

If you are going to call one of your breakfast options “The Special” try not to have a gallon of beans and have some hash browns, mushrooms and black pudding instead!

The food has always been great at this Cafe. The Service is also excellent and very friendly. A Great Range of dishes for Breakfast Brunch and Lunch. We have never been disappointed with the food or service.

Visited this place to have lunch with my friends. Great staff and food. I ordered a jacket potato with chilli con carne and a merry berry smoothie, it was delicious. I was amazed by how quick they served my food. I would definitely visit this place again!!

This is an amazing place with amazing food. The presentation is ace and so is the service. No wonder there's always a queue outside, as this is one of the best places in the area.

Why look further .. this has to be the place for quick bite to eat...wide range of dishes from Good traditional breakfast to Chicken kebabs and home made chili concarne, In all my life time I had the best plain rice ever in this place...try it out...

Quick service food okay but expensive, friendly and helpful staff, great range on menu, but stay away from the Sausages they are cheap and awful

Hot waitresses and a damn fine breakfast. Can be a wee tad noisy until all the shnibs have gone, which is about 0845. PS - did I mention the waitresses?

If I'm home alone and get hungry, this is the place I go to for breakfast. Whether I get the full English or the scrambled eggs and black pudding, food is well cooked and comes to the table quickly. Can't complain about the price, cheaper than most other places around St Albans. Staff are friendly and efficient.

Molen's is a great Cafe that serves excellent Breakfasts and Lunches as well as a great range of sandwiches. It is extremely clean, the staff are fantastic and one is served large portions at reasonable prices. Always had food that we really enjoyed.

Great for a cafe, serves broad range of delicious foods only the portions are too big for me but great for the vast majority. Good coffee, the only downside is that they dont do a good selection of tea. Friendly staff, unfortunately not as fast service as i would prefer but will definately go here if i am nearby and want more of a lunch menu than cake and snacks

Menu is extensive and good value with generous portions. Staff are exceptionally friendly - nothing is too much trouble and they are lovely with the children. A really god breakfast location for the family!

We visit Molen's Regularly as it offers a wide range of meals and dishes at reasonable prices. The food is always tasty and the helpings are large. The service is excellent, very efficient and friendly and the Cafe is always clean. Our last visit was for a pre Christmas Lunch which fore the price you could not fault. We have never had a bad meal and the staff are always helpful and friendly.

I usually stop here when in the area. It's clean and bright and the staff are very friendly. Today I had a salmon & cream cheese baguette and an Americano. Both were excellent. Plenty of free parking and clean toilets. Well worth calling in if nearby.

Las patatas fritas estaban bien. El bagel de salmón ahumado no era lo suficientemente bueno para compensar. El servicio fue bueno. Sin ser competente o brillante o especialmente quieren y amable. No podremos ser audiencia de este café.

I use Molen's regularly as they do the best fry up in town !! I've tried plenty of others in the area, but Molen's outshines them all. Occasionally I get s takeaway salt beef sarnie, and they are to die for !! So, great food, great service and reasonable prices, what more could you want ??!!

Mollen's offers a great Full English Breakfast with Toast and Coffee for £7.95. Excellent food and large portions. There are a wide choice of items for a Lunch menu. One favourite is the Baked Potato with Tuna and Salad. Not only filling but very tasty and at value for money prices.

I use this place as a take away a lot as they do the best sandwiches with lots of filling. Never disappointed

I had heard that Molens deli was doing a Salt Beef sandwich which I crave every now and again. I have been hitting the Brick Lane and Edgware stalwarts of this fine feast of a sarnie for over 30 years and was excited to hear rumours of one being offered closer to home.At £6 it was reassuringly expensive but upon opening it I am afraid it didn't meet the expectation. The Salt Beef was sliced and looked a little processed compared to the thick chunks that are pulled at better places.I can't say I didn't enjoy it as it was not bad but it wasn't amazing either. It wasn't a £6 sandwich by any means. I would have expected to pay £4.5 max.I have Salt Beef on the brain and will pass B and K in Edgware this week to get the fix of the real deal.I get the impression from how busy it was and the food I could see that this place is pretty good.I am not ruling out buying another Sandwich one from Molens as it was pretty good and I am being a fussy Salt Beef sarnie geek ! I wanted to have an excellent one not just a good one !

Always friendly welcome at this busy local Cafe. We have been coming here for a long time and it's just had a bit of a make over. Great cafe food, wide variety, quick service. Could not ask for anymore.

I ended up here with my 4 1/2 year old daughter this afternoon and loved it! I had the Molen's special and treated my daughter to a carrot Cake (she already had lunch). The Molen's special was superb. Really lovely roll, fresh ingredients and lovely chicken escalope. Even the coke I had here tasteed ama. Can't put my finger on why though :)The staff here are really friendly and can't wait to come back.

Had lunch with a friend here. I had the breakfast which was perfectly cooked. Service was good and it had a nice relaxed atmosphere. I would go again.

I visited with a friend at lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised.The interior doesn't really inspire but the menu whetted the appetite. There was a cafe feel to the place but with an interesting menu which proved to be a good choice to eat.Attentive staff were not over friendly and we were promptly served.I had the kebab chicken which came with rice and salad and was very tasty. The salad items were fresh and hadn't been hanging around for ages. Beetroot, sweet corn, coleslaw and a variety of other greenery complimented the chicken.My friend ordered the vegetarian breakfast with meat sausage as a side and was a significant plate of food.Both meals were hot and tasty and came out in about 20 minutes or so.We sat outside where such seating is limited but it was a nice day.Really good experience and would be a place to head to again.Limited bike securing places outside (we rode there in 15 minutes or so from Jersey Farm).Well worth a try for good quality grub.

Clean, comfortable environment with good staff. Cooked breakfast seemed steep at £7.50 considering the quality of the ingredients which were budget. A shame really because in a city that's spoilt for choice, it's easy to find somewhere better.

I love Molen's. The food is great. Always have a breakfast and never disappointed. I agree it is a little pricey but I would rather pay a bit more for quality food that's well cooked. The place is always clean and the staff are very friendly. I recently rang at the last minute and ordered 5 plates of sandwiches which they were only too happy to do. They had them ready within about 2 hours and they were delicious everybody commented on how nice they were. Can't recommend Molen's enough.

Highly recommend to everyone in St. Albans . Food was fantastic, milkshakes we try's was totally amazing. Staff was helpful and very friendly. We are going to visit them very often

All the staff were incredible! The coffees produced by the young male barrister was efficient, skilled (and handsome!) All three ladies worked superbly and you can tell the staff really get on. The food was both delicious and nutritious (and considering the size of the portions, accurately priced.)Overall, this cafe is fantastic and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone in St. Albans or the surrounding area.

We would not regularly return to Molen's, unless we enjoyed the food and the great service by the wonderful staff. Molen's is very busy and we do not how they cope with serving so many people, so quickly with tasty food. We have always enjoyed the food, and wonder how the Chef can cook so many meals so quickly. A great choice for Workmen, Families with Children and for people like us who enjoy a meal that is tasty, filling, served with a smile and at a very reasonable price.

I quite like Molens but do have some issues. My favourite offering of theirs is the salt beef sandwich with all the trimmings – a meal in itself and probably one of your five-a-day! I (we) have also had their lunch time specials and breakfast. The food is of good quality but rather expensive. This is made worse by the fact that they not take cards despite the fact you can approach £10 per head, more if you have a dessert. There are plenty of cash points nearby but it can be a nuisance. Another irritation is that the all-day breakfast says it includes coffee but in the small print it is an instant one – getting a proper coffee makes it an expensive breakfast.So overall not bad but with slightly more competitive pricing and a card machine it would approach five stars Oh and please turn off that annoying TV!Reluctant 4 stars as three would be mean.

2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 toast, chips and a saucer of tea. £9.Wouldn't let me change the only set breakfast as I didn't like sausage. £9 for a breakfast. Totally unreasonable pricing. Will never visit again.

Me and my girlfriend posed in for a snack as we were in the area. The Food was really good, i had a massive Italian chicken sandwich which was really tasty and clean.The Italian gentlemen serving us didn't rush us and made sure our food was prepared exactly how we wanted it. My Girlfriend can't have dairy and we asked them if they could prepare something which they did with no fuss.I will now be returning in the future as it was a great place to visit.Place is very clean and slick.

The Set Breakfast at Molen's is excellent with Bacon (Delicious) Fried Bread, 2 Fried Eggs, Large Sausage, either Beans or Tomatoes, Toast or Bread and a Coffee, we have with a portion of Black Pudding, Great Value and very filling. The Chef is remarkable, never have been disappointed with a meal, fast and Friendly Service.Ideal for Workmen wanting a Breakfast or Lunch and to bring Children.

I admit to being regular visitors to Molen's as not only is it great value for money but serves great food. We enjoyed a great 2 Course Christmas Lunch for only £9.50.There was plenty of fresh cut tasty Turkey with the trimmings and plenty of Vegetables. The Christmas pudding with plenty of custard was delicious. The Cafe was very busy but the service was very fast and friendly. We were going to Molen's for just an Omelette and salad, which is great, but just could not resist having the Turkey Lunch.

I really cannot fault this place. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food is nicely prepared and served and the portions are generous. My only observation (not criticism) is that it is 'cash only' which may well catch some people out.

I'm in this area perhaps 3-4 times each year.Last time I was here was July-2015; when I walked in 4 months later, Nadia immediately recalled the details of my sandwich and coffee!!The place is spotless; and one can talk to the chef.Although seating space is limited the noise level is quite acceptable.They even have daily newspapers for patrons.Tip: Parking at the Quadrant is sometimes nearly full - but there is a brisk turnover so one seldom has to drive around more than once.

Molen's is a super Cafe with excellent food and large portions. I enjoyed a Molen's Breakfast, with Toast and Coffee, which consisted of Fried Bread, Baked Beans, Large Sausage, 2 Rashers of Bacon and 2 Fried eggs. I also had extra a portion (3 Slices) of Black Pudding. Not only is it a very filling meal but the food is Tasty and cooked to my liking. You can also have a Baked Potato, with Cheese filling, Tuna and Salad for the weight watchers as one of the many options in the wide Menu. You get a Large Baked Potato, plenty of Cheese and Tuna as well as a tasty salad. Good and Friendly service at very reasonable prices. A great place for Breakfast or Lunch open to 4.00 pm.

Had great family breakfast here today including a high chair for my little boy.Fabulous food and great lattes.Always great customer service and good buzz about the place.Easy to park outside and graet location for local people.I come here often with my family and always enjoy it .

Perfect for a coffee, sandwich or hot meal, I am a bit boring when it comes to lunch and just love tuna, tomato and cucumber on a white roll with extra mayo and black pepper, the rolls are big and salad and mayo is included in the price on the board, £2.50 for a big roll = good value for money! The place is clean and the staff are friendly, what more could you ask for!?

Whether you choose a Breakfast, you can select your own, or something from the Lunch menu you are given Great basic English food in large portions, at very reasonable prices. The Special Lunch of the day is great value at £7.40. Today it was Lasagna, Salad and Chips and Apple Pie and Ice Cream. Not only are you given a plateful but the Salad is varied, the Chips are filling and the Lasagna really tasty. The Cafe is clean, the Staff friendly and the Chef is really fantastic. I have been disappointed by food presented by so called top Chefs, but never at Molen's.A great Cafe ideal for people who want a plateful of good basic food and for bringing children.

My son and I go to Molens most weekends for Breakfast. The quality of food has been consistent; they are cleaner than a typical cafe, with decent portions and a little higher food quality than most.It is a popular Sunday morning haunt for many, with families, the more mature among us and even party goers from the night before, all having a full breakfast, and a read of the Sunday Papers.The speed of service is perfect and the usual waiters and waitresses are friendly and polite to everyone.There is a wide range of breakfast options and lunch, too. The omelettes are cooked very well and it seems little oil is used.If you are looking for a nice cafe to grab a reasonable breakfast, this is probably the best out of town.

Have eaten breakfast / lunch here many times in the last couple of years - excellent cooked breakfast - cafe is always full at lunchtimes so get there before 12:30 for a seat - service generally quick, friendly and food is consistently good. One niggle - having to pay with cash. Please consider accepting debit or credit cards!

I went with my wife to enjoy a Molens Breakfast but the Chef had cooked a special Chicken Curry. He gave us a taster and it was so good we both had the Chicken Curry, with Rice & Salad. It was absolutely delicious and such large portions. The Salad has a wide selection of ingredients and is so fresh. This was followed by Apple Pie and Ice Cream, you can have custard if you wish.This 2 course meal was £7.40 each. If that is not Great Value, I would like to know what is. Not only is the food low priced but it is really tasty and enjoyable. It maybe just a cafe but the staff are very efficient and friendly. I have dined at some top restaurants and the food at Molens tastes just as good and the portions are bigger.

I went to Molens with my granddaughter, but there were 4 people smoking at one of the 2 outside tables. That put us off completely as we both loathe smoking where food is being eaten or prepared. We looked inside, but tables were all full. Cannot give Molens any stars as we both felt the people smoking should have been asked by the staff to stop.

Freshly cooked hot egg chips and bacon and a perfect latte with quick friendly service. Busy staff buzz around clearing tables wiping and sweeping so very clean. Large interesting choice of food so much better than a normal cafe. Good value.

I went for lunch today as I have visited the restaurant before the food is nice but the service is very bad as I was seating on a table for 15 min No one was bothered to come to the table and ask if I want any thing there ware 3 staff behind the counter chatting and joking a round there ware only two table of customers and me and my friend not busy at all. It's very bad for business. So I gave 2 Star.

Reasonably priced food and helpful service, BUT, bizarrely in this day and age, you cannot pay by debit/credit card. This is not a little, one-man business where credit card charges might impact heavily on takings. Whilst I'm perfectly happy to accept, say, a £5 minimum spend in order to use a card, I don't expect to have to dash off to a cashpoint in order to pay a near-£20 bill. This is archaic! Also, they don't have a cash register capable of providing an itemised bill, so that you have some check that it is correct. The staff member who took my payment had to total the bill three times on a hand calculator before she settled on what she thought was correct. When you are standing at the counter waiting to pay, you do not want to have to pore over a menu in ordere to ensure that you are paying the correct amount!

We had the special lunch at £6.90 which varies each day. We had Liver and Bacon with New Potatoes, Peas, Carrots, Savoy Cabbage, onions, a large plateful. It was excellent. There was a lot of liver and it tasted delicious. This was followed by apple pie with a choice of custard or ice cream, we chose the latter. Really good. There is a large choice of Breakfast (all day), you can have the standard breakfast, or add to it or just choose what you want. There is also a wide choice of Lunch dishes at low prices, and they serve excellent coffee and wide range of soft drinks. The Staff are very friendly and helpful. The Cafe is spotlessly clean. Would highly Recommend for a low cost but tasty Breakfast or Lunch.

Located in the Quadrant at Marshalswick in St Albans, this is a great venue for breakfast and lunch. They serve great coffee freshly made and good quality hot food with daily specials. The staff are friendly and attentive. Good parking nearby and outside seating.

I recently went to molens during my lunch break on a Friday afternoon unfortunately I did not receive the usual standard of service. The waiter seemed dazed and forgot half of our order. I asked for a cheese toaster and got 2 sliced of toast with melted cheese in the middle with tons of butter on the outside of the bread making it impossible to hold as it was very greasy. As I left to pay I noticed several tins of Heinz soup in the kitchen ( tomato lentil & vegtable( and a sign saying soup of the day tomato also available was lentil & vegetable! And they were charging £3.50 a bowl rip off! I would not go again as the staff did not seen to know what they were doing and were rushed off there feet.

The customer service in this cafe is outstanding. The waitresses are very friendly and very welcoming. The food is very good and I now eat breakfast there most days.

I loved their Breakfasts but trying to keep to loose some weight I really enjoyed their Omelette with salad. Excellent meal, tasty but not fattening. They do offer a great range of cakes, coffees and other meals at a low price. Fantastic service and super clean.

We had take out sandwiches from here when we were moving out.They had a huge range but we all had either the salt beef or the chicken escalope specials.The Chicken escalope was HUGE, I had to save half for later! Well worth the money.The salt beef wasn't to my taste (texture a bit soft) but the people that had it enjoyed it.Loved the extra touches such as gerkins on the salt beef and lemon juice on the chicken, just jazzed it all up abit.For a sandwich shop I don't think you can ask for more. They also have dining in table which looked nice.Plenty of salad and mayo made for a great lunch overall.

We have visited Mollens several times and it has always been 1st class.You can choose a great breakfast and exactly what you want as well as a standard breakfast.There is a wide selection of sandwiches, salads and meals for lunch.Plus they offer a special lunch deal, which varies, day to day, of a main meal and a sweet for £6.90. These are fantastic value for money and very filling.Not only is the food tasty but the service is very friendly and efficient.

Molen’s café and sandwich bar makes a decent cappuccino. Service was excellent and food and drink came quickly. A selection of newspapers is available. While mainly a café and sandwich bar a selection of sliced cakes is also available.

I nipped into Molen's for a sandwich in May this year and it was well worth it. The food was very fresh and tasty and the service was very friendly. The restaurant has a modern, clean, fresh continental atmosphere.
