Miller & Carter in St Albans

All good, Sunday set price menu offered good food, variety and quite good value.

Had a lovely meal here with my boyfriend. We shared the butchers block which was cooked exactly how we like. All staff were friendly and attentive, especially our main server - Emelia, who made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely return.

Took the family on a Thursday night to celebrate my son's 18th birthday. The service was superb and a big shout out to Martina for helping with tje surprise candles and cake. The food was very good and well cooked and presented. The scallops could have been bigger for the price you are paying though but all the other food was excellent. Shame that the restaurant was empty by 9.30pm which is why the atmosphere score is low. I presume the weekends are better.

Would recommend as they catered for my friends special birthday and there was over 20 of us. Food slightly too salty but everyone was happy and my friend enjoyed her birthday celebration. Thank you to the staff who worked very hard that day.

Lovely meal with excellent service by Beata. Warm friendly welcome and attentive service throughout. The meal was excellent, although I wish jacket potatoes and sweet potato fries were still on the menu.

Absolutely terrible and won’t ever be returning. Completely incompetent staff, watched our food sit for 15 minutes before it was picked up and given to us… stone cold. Absolutely no excuse as the restaurant wasn’t busy Had to wait about 20 minutes each time for a drink, whilst the staff just stood around talking. I ordered a Merlot and waited ages and then the staff member strolls out of nowhere and finally shouts across from bar section, did you order a drink? Well yes, you would know that if you were doing your job. Starters were cold and soggy, how can deep fried calamari be cold and soggy? Oh yes that’s because it’s was sat on the pass for 15 minutes. I couldn’t finish my main as it was cold, bland and the meat was so tough, just disgusting quite frankly. The whole meal was just a disaster. When we asked for the bill swiftly we informed the waitress how terrible it was and she couldn’t care less, ‘soz about that’ was the response. I wish we never paid, it was such a waste of money and the quality was abismal. This is the last time I’ll spend my money at Miller and Carter, what a nightmare. You need to train your staff to have some basic customer service training, manners and how to run a service, I’d have more sympathy if it was busy, but it wasn’t, just a bunch of lazy incompetent staff. Don’t bother wasting your money here, there are plenty of other options in St Albans and you’ll be disappointed if you go here. Pathetic excuse for a restaurant!

I ordered a dessert, a hot chocolate brownie with ice cream, it’s extremely delicious 🤤 black brownie made of dark chocolate and white vanilla ice cream, a gorgeous combination 🫶🏼 I ordered mint tea with it, it’s an incredible combination of flavors ☺️ At the end, I ordered a Berry Spritz cocktail🍹 it has a very mild taste with notes of berries and is decorated with dried raspberries on top. Aperol Spritz lovers may like this version, but the cocktail does not contain Aperol, but gin. We chose this restaurant for our first date night after moving to St Albans, and it was a fantastic experience. Martina gave us a warm welcome, let us pick our table, and provided excellent service throughout the evening. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning!

Had a fantastic visit here tonight. The restaurant itself is very nicely presented and we could choose where we wanted to sit. The waitress - Emilia - was a pleasure to deal with and the service overall was great as was the food. We haven't been to M&C for a while but this experience will lead us to book again soon.

Fantastic service from Lucie, a warm welcome, attentive service and helpful at payment. A little too much dressing on the lettuce wedges for us all, but the meat was top stuff as usual.

For starters, we had the prawns, which were good. For the main course, we shared the 50-day dry-aged meat board, but it was disappointing. The meat didn’t have the nutty, cheesy, or any of the distinct flavors you'd expect from 50-day dry aging. However, for dessert, we had the banoffee pie, which was absolutely delicious.

Lovely place. The environment is perfect . Staff are kind and the food is amazing. Martina is the best waitress.

Hot & delicious. Didn't have to wait long between courses however we didn't feel rushed. We shall always return to Miller & Carter ( St Albans) .

We come here regularly, and the food is always exceptional—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The prawns were outstanding, and we highly recommend trying the fish dishes as well. Tonight, we had the pleasure of dining here again, and as always, the service was fantastic. The staff was welcoming, and a special mention goes to Martina, who was polite, friendly, and wonderfully sociable. Her warm hospitality made our experience even better. Looking forward to our next visit!

The quality of the food was again fantastic. However, the service wasn't great. We recieved our lettuce wedge before our starters, our mains arrived before our starters had been cleared, and we both ended up with different sauces to what we ordered. My side arrived halfway through my main meal and the steak was not cooked rare. Our night was completely ruined by a group of young men who decided to laugh at the top of their voices the entire meal like we were in a pub! Staff didn't ask for them to quieten down once and we ate our meal as quickly as possible and left. We thought the 'Happy Birthday' dessert was a nice touch, until the server came over to get payment whilst my husband was still eating it! All in all, not the usual experience we get elsewhere and considering the amount of money and the fact it was a special ocassion I am so upset at the experience we had.

Improve the tiramisu it's horrendous

We booked a table for four as a family treat. First time we’ve visited here but not the last. The food was delicious and service first rate. Our server, Lucie, was wonderful. We’ve only given 4 stars for the atmosphere because the music playing was a tad too loud for our liking. Probably an age thing! It won’t stop us visiting again though!

Waa seated at 7pm, tried to order the butcher’s block but was told it was unavailable. Ordered some wine why we decided what food to order. Had to wait 45 minutes for the wine to arrive and then had to remind the server we had ordered wine. Very disappointing night, won’t return anytime soon

Mario was so friendly and showed such great service! This was a lovely way to spend an evening with my husband before Christmas and the food was delightful with great portions. The Festive Butcher’s Block was great value for money and we struggled to finish it, could definitely feed 3!

Venue, food, and service were all good, as you can expect at any Miller & Carter. Our visit was let down by a very vocal male chef who could be heard across the restaurant, shouting from the semi-open kitchen at the other chef and a server. The argument was apparently about what allergens were in a particular dish. The confusion is difficult to understand given how careful M&C are, giving all guests an iPad to check allergens in all food/drink themselves. Regardless, it should be handled quietly between staff, not broadcast to the entire restaurant. The server apologised to guests for the chef's behaviour, but the manager ignored the whole situation and did not step in. When paying a premium price for a restaurant, you don't expect an aggressive argument to break out between staff.

First time visiting Miller & Carter, the venue was lovely and the steak was delicious. The service from Mario was excellent who really looked after us during our visit. An absolute pleasure, we’ll more than happily visit again.

Had a lovely meal at Miller & Carter, St Albans. We had a family group of 12 and had a lovely table upstairs with lots of space for us all (handy as we had 3 little children with us). All food and drink was served quickly and with a smile. Food was delicious and all steaks were cooked exactly as requested. Our waiter, Mario was so lovely and super helpful - Nothing was too much trouble and he even made time to interact with the children. Would definitely recommend for big groups and children.

Amazing food as always! Staff were so friendly and accommodating. It was very busy when we went for dinner on a Friday in December but this is to be expected and staff were efficient with taking orders and grabbing drinks. Great atmosphere and once again brilliant staff.

Had an evening meal with a friend. We both went for the 50 day aged fillet steaks and they were delicious with the chunky chips. The waitress Lucie was friendly and attentive for any additional drinks or food we required after we had placed our order. Would recommend the food and the restaurant. There is no car park at the restaurant but there is a large multi storey car park 5 minutes walk away for the shopping centre.

The food was excellent, with steaks cooked perfectly to the precise doneness requested, complemented by delicious and well-prepared sides. There is a great variety of sauces for the steaks, each rich and flavourful. We were fortunate to be served by Mario, whose friendliness and cheerful demeanour made the evening even more enjoyable. His attentiveness and warm hospitality made us feel truly welcomed. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience.

I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. The ambience was great, the seating was comfortable and the tables not crammed in. It was also extremely clean. Lucie, our waitress, was excellent - very friendly, very professional and very efficient. The gluten free menu was also superb, with a good choice. All the dishes chosen over 3 courses were excellent. Tasty and good portions. Excellent all round and we will be back!

The food and service was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. It was my son's birthday and a plate with a brownie and writing was presented to him with Happy Birthday wishes. We also had someone with Gluten intolerance and special care was taken to ensure the food ordered was suitable. Our server, Beate, was very good indeed.

Incredible visit this evening, food was on point and incredible service by the lovely beata <3 I can’t even say anything bad about this place and they are very understanding and accommodating if you have young children ( I have a feral 3 year old boy)! Food was very fresh and always cooked to beautiful standard! 10* to the chef! We will continue to come back! Also beata always goes above and beyond for all of her customers and always makes me and my family feel special!

My husband and I went to this Miller and Carter on a whim last Wednesday and we were both blown away by the food! Ended up being the best Miller and Carter we have had this year! The service was fabulous which added to our experience!

As a couple we were looking forward to experiencing a nice evening the waiter was obviously new he tried so hard but was not supported by his manager the medium rare steak was tough and the tables were left and not cleared when we came to pay the bill the manager asked do you want your change giving him ninety pound cash for a eighty two pound low satandard meal we were very disappointed
