Cosy Cafe in Basildon

Very cool restaurant and bar in a former hospital- great eclectic decor and lovely service. Very tasty food. We had Asian chicken and croquettes for starters. Chicken could’ve been slightly crispier - maybe chef should leave the sauce on the side, then duck cassoulet, fish cakes, sea bass and beef burger. All good size portions and very tasty. Only comment is the cassoulet should come with potatoes or some carb without having to at for a side. Cocktails looked ace but we had a bottle of house (Verdejo) white wine. There is a bar area too where you can just get drinks. Definitely recommend this place.

Went in a Tuesday morning for breakfast and had the place to myself! Really enjoyed the breakfast, drinks and service.

Food and drinks were good. Some confusion for service after seating which caused a long delay but they were very apologetic and compensated us

Sat down and got our drinks, the waiter ‘oli’ left us for ages to order food and went to other tables that got in later than us and took their order while we waited and just continued to walk past us, very very disappointed and angry at this service 😡😡

Unassuming exterior leads to an amazing interior Service was swift and attentive Didn’t have to wait too long for our orders to arrive, we ordered apple tart with a 20 minute warning but we got it in less than 10 minutes. Highly recommend but you must book!

Well worth the wait. You wait due to the top quality food. Everything cooked to perfection. Really enjoyed it here and will return.

The service staff was too few for the number of guests. Not the fault of the individual service staff who were trying to be as good as possible. The bartender also had to cover some reception duties. Two children meals came 20-25 minutes after the adult items but the adults waited a while before beginning to eat. The childrens food was comped without even asked. The steak was ordered medium well but was small and dry. The cheddar/potatoe bake was good. Duck confit was good.

We went there for my boyfriend's mum birthday meal. The interior of the place is quite unusual. I did like elements of it. The service was really great. Food was tasty and well presented. I think that drinks were pretty expensive , but that might be just my opinion. Overall, it was positive first visit at the Cosy Club

Seemed understaffed. Service was slow. Ordered extras didn't get them and didn't want to wait. Average chain restaurant fare. Could do better.

A quite remarkable environment to astonish you ,it's the original 1930s hospital tiled bricks and an enormous space designed to encourage client's to relax and enjoy the ability to read or discuss with friends or work colleagues with a glass of wine/ beer/chocolate etc,located in the delightful souhernhay area of the city

I have been to this Cosy Club a few times and the food and service is always perfect. I had the dirty chicken burger and it was 10/10. I was served by Jess and she was friendly, polite, quick and genuinely lovely. The atmosphere and decor is relaxing. I'd like to return for cocktails soon.

Went for a private event. Delicious food, lovely staff and great drinks. Totally recommend it.

I can honestly say this was the most awful visit The menu had nothing exciting On it, so we ordered starter sharers ( absolutely no flavour) Pork bites (flavourless) Tomato aranchini ( still looking for the tomatoes) We also had the house burger which tasted like it had come from McDonald's it was awful We got asked if everything was good as we were leaving The biggest shock was to find we were charged £11 for a glass of wine. I could of bought 2 bottles from the supermarket for that price

What a find. I had not heard of this brand before my son booked 4 of us into supper here. Nice buzz and busyness for a Sunday night. Loved the quirky decor. Very grand building as in the radiation part of an old Victorian hospital. The little sign outside has no indication of what a fab place you find inside. We had cocktails, drinks, starters and mains. First world problem, I know, but mildly disappointed W the red wine list. ..I like a good Pinot Noir, struggled to find a red to order. Not sure if my sea bass was meant to be quite so drowned in so much olive oil. I ate the food which was delicious, and left the oil. The other 3 had steaks which they devoured. Loved the wilted spinach but not so keen on the wilted rocket which would have been better left off the plate. Will definitely come again. Quibbles W the food are overtaken by the place itself. Liked it a lot.

Presented with vegan menu - a number of items weren’t available. What came was pretty mediocre. Great shame as this is a very cool venue with fab look and great access for wheelchair user.

Culturally rich environment, restful vibe with a great variety of food for all preferences. Gluten free/vegetarian options were delicious! Would certainly return. Table service was excellent.

Second visit to Cosy Club Exeter. First for Mother's Day this year and most recently for my brother's 40th. It never disappoints. Lovely food, great service. We will be back!

I've been here many times for lunch and for drinks. I like the atmosphere and character of the place. The food is always delicious and I liked the cocktails too. Usually the service is good, but the only time that it was busy, the staff was slow to take our orders or bring the bill. I had to chase them up as they weren't checking on us. I'd suggest that you have more staff at busy times

Absolutely love coming here for brunch with the girls, fantastic food, lovely helpful staff, and lovely atmosphere.

Great ambiance inside. Not equipped for takeaway coffee. Waited 20 minutes for 2 flat whites and a babycinno (warm milk) to then be given them and the flat white coffees were not even filled half way in the cup. We checked we were given a flat white to which we were told “it was made how they would do a dine in”. They then just filled the large cup with milk…. Not making it a flat white anymore. My suggestion is if you don’t do many takeaways. Don’t accept any orders, we would have been happy to walk 5 minutes up the street to another coffee shop.

Let's be honest, you know what to expect when you visit a Cosy Club restaurant. A menu with popular options on it served in a funky relaxed setting. And that is exactly what we had when we went there for lunch with some of our family. I'd probably give it a 3.75 rating if I could. I think that's more representative of where this sits in the chain restaurant/food/value for money equation. Service was good, staff are definitely helpful and pleasant, but occasionally we waited a long time between ordering and receiving stuff. The general atmosphere is good in a shabby chic way which suited the premises. Just as an aside, the Gents toilet was one of the coldest I've been in!! I have no idea why it needs to be that cold! Would we eat there again, yes we would. It's not gourmet food, but then we weren't expecting that.

it's a real shame and massively disappointing, but the food was a little bland and uninspired. It lacked any real flavour. what we ordered (Halloumi salad and the Spanish chicken) was nothing special, which was annoying considering the price. The halloumi and squash on my salad were lukewarm and the salad itself was soggy and over dressed. My partner's food was very bland. We had high hopes for the cosy club but it left us disappointed. The food wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't good - it was merely okay. we also waited a while to be seated (despite having a reservation and it being very quiet). Service was slow.

servers were very welcoming, friendly and quick, lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious! dog friendly brought our 4 legged freind, did ring ahead.

Ashley our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We remarked on his brilliant braces. Everyone, the waiting staff, were dashingly dressed. We will definitely try our local Cosy club, Norwich.

Really enjoyed my first meal here. Went for a family birthday. Music was a tad loud for a good group conversation. Service was excellent and food very nice

I was walking around Exeter looking for a place to eat (I don’t live here so I don’t know the area) Luckily I stumbled across the cosy club. The staff accommodated me immediately and offered several options for tables. I ordered the croquettes to start which were delicious. (my only advice here is that the small plates really are very small so you probably want more than one as a starter) I’m I then had the flat iron steak which was cooked perfectly, along with fresh crisp fries and a deep peppercorn sauce. I finished it all off with, probably the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had. It had a slight spice to it which really worked. I should also mention the unusual decor which creates a very unique dining experience. I will definitely return if I ever find myself back in Exeter.

I have eaten here upwards of 50 times but in the last few visits i have experienced some quite atrocious attitude from various staff. I've just been told to calm down when simply pointing out to my server that he got my order wrong. I wasn't aggressive but that certainly did set me off. 2 visits before my cold toasted sandwich and fries was met with: although toasted, the sandwich should be cold....? Cold tasted bread is hard and difficult to break. Loved this place, raved about it. But this will be my last visit.

A nice place for an evening out. The food, service and atmosphere were excellent.

Maybe the best cheesecake I have ever eaten! The burger was very good but I would probably try a different main next time. The staff were friendly as well and the interior of the restaurant is pretty cool. Reasonable price for the quality and presentation of the food. My only complaint would be a pint of beer costs over £6 which is quite steep but I suppose that’s becoming the norm these days.

Quirky decor, fits the cosy club vibe. Lunch was excellent, service matched it. 5 Stars.

Really good food, friendly efficient staff, nice atmosphere and interesting space. But... the policy (commented on by another reviewer) of "main course only, we've lots of bookings later" will ruin the reviews and scare people away. We were in a room of ~40 tables with only 6 taken and had our plates taken away and the bill then the card reader presented for payment in 2 mins beggars belief. Management need a rethink and I would avoid if you are wanting a relaxed meal in a novel location. I certainly don't want to be paying £17 for a burger and be rushed. My US colleague was not impressed.

Food so bad shouldn't have the liberty to drill a hole in your pocket. The ambience is creepy and straight out of a horror film. The pictures hung on the wall have the power to kill your appetite. Appalled to see how well this place is rated on Google. Are people this pretentious?

Exceptional steak (medium) and amazing chips I highly recommend the flat iron steak. The staff are very welcoming. They were happy to spend time chatting to us and we're very attentive. Place is so cool, very vintage and quirky. Definitely recommend this place. Thanks guys xxx 🤣

I was lucky enough to celebrate my hen party late lunch here, it was wonderful, and we were so well looked after, we had a separate room which enabled my sister to decorate, the food was fabulous and so were the drinks 🫶

Food was good but a little overpriced

Lunched there on Mother's Day with my wife and son. Ordered the Harrisa lamb (a Tunisisns speciality). What I received was a blackened, incinerated piece of lamb skin. I assume it was lamb. Had to send it back twice and never did get what I ordered. Obviously will not be returning.

A family night out looking forward to a lovely 3 course meal. None of the starters were available. We managed to get only bread and courgettes. Following our main course we asked for the dessert menu and were told all the desserts were off too. The kitchen was closed and no attempt was made to offer any cold desserts or even ice-cream. Had I known either when I booked or when we had turned up for our 8.45pm Saturday night booking that we would be lucky to get a one course meal, we wouldn't have stayed. Will give this place a miss in future.

Took friends in for the first time after l told them how good it was , then had to send my food back not once but twice then still could not eat it , management did take my meal off the bill but l still went home hungry and will not be going back !!!!!

Had a really nice visit to the “Cosy Club” in Exeter. Booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary, was very kindly given a bottle of processo by the establishment. Would recommend booking the snug for special occasions. Very attentive staff.

Lovely service, plenty of GF Gluten Free options for my Coeliac wife. The menu is more condensed now but still plenty of choice and delicious food.

Tentative staff ,swift service and good food. Restaurant manager was very nice .Great for breakfast meetings .Venue was brilliant large airy , quite Rustic/ Bo-ho will be back.

I only stayed there briefly for some hot chocolate. But it certainly lives up to its name. It's very cosy and a great place to relax with some drinks or perhaps a meal with friends.

Really like this pub the old décor is great and the staff seem very friendly and helpful. Food is ok but not great but it's priced well and not too expensive apart from the sweets which are very small. Overall a nice cosy place with an old feel which is great.
