We were promptly greeted and shown to our table for breakfast in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter, Tom, was an absolute delight—very friendly, approachable, and an excellent server. We were also assisted by a waitress whose name we didn’t catch, but she was equally attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious, with generous portions, and the drinks were equally enjoyable. Service was efficient, and we never had to wait long for anything. Thank you.

Lovely heritage building with high ceilings right in city centre. Portrait paintings of historic figures, walls with exposed bricks crying for paintwork adds to the rustic atmosphere. Food is amazing. We were a large group so we ended up trying their sourdough bread, rosemary camembert, thai inspired chicken stripes with sweet chilli and ginger dressing amongst other starters. I had their sea bass as the main served on a bed of kidney beans and chorizo. All the foods were lush. Service was slow especially for those of us who ordered pork belly. But it is Christmas time and they were packed. I would go again and would surely recommend.

Went in Saturday for a work Christmas party. They ruined it. Took so long to seat us, half hour beyond out booked time. Told us we wouldn't have time for puddings as had to vacate the table in a couple of hours. Starters took half hour to arrive then main course another hour later, despite requests for it many times. The the food that did arrive was cold. Awful awful place. Avoid

absolutely ruined our works Christmas meal and too late to book something else. The service was shocking, sat down late, starter came late and then told we had only 5 minutes left before our table had to be vacated for the next people, at this time we still had not had our main course, we then received 3 meals from 24 and they were all really cold and couldn't cut the meat. We decided it was time to leave and asked for our money back, which we have yet to receive. Will not be returning any time soon

Totally ruined our Works Christmas do. Table booked for 14.45. We turned up at 14.30 and had a drink. We werent sat until 15 30, starters didn't come out until 16.15 at which point the waiter "reminded" us that we only had the table until 17.00!!! We of course reminded him that we hadn't even had our mains and were told there would be no time for dessert (keeping in mind the restaurant had already been paid in full!). At 17.30 3 meals out of 24 arrived at one of the table, they were stone cold and you couldn't even get a steak knife through the belly pork!! At this point we decided to leave so we could actually eat something as we were all starving!! We had offered to provide the restaurant pre orders and they refused on multiple occassions! If you can't cater to big groups, don't take the booking!!!!!!!!!

We all went home without food. Avoid!

While i did not eat at the establishment, i attended on Saturday with a friend and upon arrival was greeted very well by a young female who i now know to be the shift manager, she pointed out a free table where we could enjoy a quiet drink while soaking up the festive atmosphere. We were seated right next to the bar area with just the bar separating us from the kitchens serving hatch. My husband was also at the venue with his work colleagues for their Christmas get together. With in half an hour of arriving we were greeted to the unpleasant view of a male member of staff standing by the serving hatch unpleasantly stuffing his face with a burger, other members of staff stuffing food into their mouths and proceeding with full mouths to take food out to customers..... God help any one who wanted to ask a question or make a pleasant exchange as when they returned to the serving hatch most were still chewing on the food previously consumed. Whilst seated i noticed that the proprietor of the company my husband worked for had requested to speak with the shift manager, this did not surprise me due to how long they had been waiting for food. The manager went to the table and everything seemed calm from a distance, untill the manager then started using her hands and arms in what appeared from a distance to be quite menacing. She then returned to the bar and unleashed a verbal torrent of unpleasentries aimed at the party my husband was with, stating they have no right to complain, its Christmas what do they expect, they are just old men(she obviously at the time did not realise we were in any way linked to them) it was so unprofessional and she mentioned rather loudly that she was swore at...... This would never have been the case i know the gentlemen who were talking to her and they would have been professionally and polite getting their point across, a male member of staff attended our table and cleared 2 empty glasses and apologised for the torrent we had just witnessed . The eating of food continued even though there were customers who were still waiting for there food, Another member of staff then came to the area behind the bar and announced about another table 'bad news that table want there pudding before they leave' how is that bad news if that is what they booked in and paid for? . Nearing the end of the evening the manager came over and gave us a complimentary drink for greeting her politely on our arrival and looking festive we accepted and then proceeded by invite to join my husband and his colleagues. They did not finish their night with their full meal which again is so unprofessional and dissapointing. Apart from 1 member of staff as we left no one acknowledged we were leaving or offered a good night greeting or apology for the service. I personally feel that this female should not be a shift manager as she clearly is far out of her depth and certainly is not in any way professional when dealing with problems and complaints.

Our second visit and it did disappoint a little. It was a Saturday morning and service was a bit slow. After 15-20 mins, we ended up waving to get their attention so we could order. When the food did arrive, it was cold so we ended up sending 3 out of 4 dishes back! They were re-done with no hassle and came out fine second time round, but there were no complimentary drinks or discount to apologise which I'd typically expect. Would give another go and hope for better!!

We went to Cosy Club for a Sunday afternoon lunch, having had great experiences there in the past - but unfortunately, this time was a major letdown. Service was incredibly slow; we waited about 20 minutes each time to be served, and our food took almost an hour to arrive. When we ordered two steaks (at £32 each, which we expected would be well worth it), they came out completely overcooked - our ‘rare’ steak was well done, and our ‘medium’ came medium-well. After we sent them back, it took another 20 minutes to get replacements, only for the rare steak to arrive practically raw and cold. To top it off, the quality just wasn’t there; the steaks were bland and not worth the price tag. Desserts were tasty but, like everything else, took ages. There was a real lack of communication among the staff, and the atmosphere felt awkward with staff being visibly rude to each other. When our waiter went on break, no one took over our table, and we ended up waiting by the till to pay, with staff seemingly unaware that we were even there. Definitely disappointing, especially for a bill that came to over £200.

Arrived with high expectations left very disappointed . Starter was ok but our main course was very poor . We ordered ox cheek pasta ragu at £17 a portion . We had difficulty finding the ox cheek buried under the pasta ,three small lumps of meat . It was barely warm , the pasta was undercooked and cool and the braised broccali ordered as a side was also cold .All served on cool plates . I am afraid we sent it back and left . We were told it had all bee cooked at 68 degrees but by the time it reached us it was no where near that .

We were seated at an awful table by the kitchen entrance. The restaurant was only half full and we asked to be moved to a more comfortable table. The host said that they were fully booked and all the empty tables we pointed out were reserved. We were offended when the empty tables all remained empty during our meal- not a single one of the tables we asked to be relocated to was occupied. In addition to the table disappointment, our breakfast meals didn’t come out timed together. My meal of the cosy eggs was cold which was very odd because it arrived last. The Cosy Club was the opposite of cosy. If they were trying to tell us that we are not welcome and to not come back then the point has been taken. It should be noted that our waiter was very friendly, but we won’t be returning after being treated so poorly by the host and due to the cold food.

My first visit to Cosy Club was superb. The atmosphere and the interior was indeed cosy. It was a Monday morning so there weren’t a lot of people, but the service was friendly regardless! I had the Chorizo Hash, which was a hefty portion! The dish was lovely, ranging from the fried egg on top, down to every bit such as the potatoes, tomatoes, and the chorizo bits. Only thing I would suggest is to have chunkier pieces of chorizo, as I only get the bits of chorizo every other mouthful. It does explain why the menu shows an option to add more chorizo for some extra £. Overall, awesome experience and will visit to try more breakfast items!

Lovely experience of eating a pre theatre meal at the Cosy club. Very attentive staff who were polite, jolly and attentive. Food was served pretty quickly and across the table was very well received. I had the seabass with roasted potatoes in a cream sauce. Very yummy. Fish was moist but well crisped on the skin. Lots of flavour. Apparently salmon was also really nice. Chicken burger was a great big portion (although suffered slightly from the common resturant problem of Very tall when it could just have been wider)! But all very good. Puddings also full of flavour (recommend the apple tart). Cocktails very tasty. Again recommend the cherry bakewell one. Atmosphere was bustling but not too brash or overly noisy. It was easy to chat and be heard. The space is very high ceiling with a strange collection of old portraits on the walls and clustered lampshades above. Nice and quirky. We actually outstayed our two hour table slot so were moved over to the comfy sofas for our coffees. It's not cheap but not overly expensive either. My fish was £18 and apple tart was £8.50. Heartily recommend. A lively lovely evening.

This is a great place to come if you are watching a show after at the Barnfield theatre. The food options vary from tapas dishes to a range of main courses to suit everyone. The food is a step up from a pub and reasonably well prepared. I had some issues with the rocket leaves that were quite wilted and the bread had seen better days (perhaps from the freezer?) - but the ravioli and salmon were nice. Service was good. (Update - The bread was actually fresh, but perhaps it was very slightly toasted leading me to believe it wasn't)

I have written this review in tripadvisor.co.uk also as I would like others to enjoy the experience. Just 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral this hidden gem is a must for both locals and visitors. Built within an old hospital the decor creates both visual and atmospheric interest. There is both warmth and comfort in the stories behind the pictures on the walls and the lighting creates an ambience that stimulates the mind. The staff... Omg!!! I have never been served with such charm and efficiency in any other establishment like I was here. Both my partner and myself were in awe even before we had started to eat. The proficiency of the staff was exceptional and we now ordered... The food began to arrive and starters were served quickly. In all honesty I could not find enough words to compliment the quality of ingredients, the combination of ingredients or the presentation of the plates. I have eaten all over the world from Scotland to Egypt and the explosion of flavours on the plates brought before us in The Cosy Club surpassed anything I have ever experienced. I cannot complement this restaurant enough. If you know your food and appreciate good quality ingredients put on a plate to become a masterpiece then I HIGHLY reccomend this restuarant. Thanks to all and I will be back very soon. X

Visited for brunch. It's an old hospital building, which is reflected in the decor and style, and is nice to see the theme preserved, if not entirely authentically. We thought some of the tables were a little close together given the space the rooms provide. The food is perfectly fine for the price, portion sizes spot on and the quality decent enough. We found the service a tad on the slow side though, both in terms of waiting staff and food time, whilst it wasn't especially busy.

We’ve tried to get in a couple of times for breakfast & were told they were full (although tables were available to book online in 15 minutes time) & told to sit in the bar area, where you have to order food at the bar while looking at piles of dirty crockery. It’s a shame, the food is good and the menu far more interesting than other places in the city, but I don’t like being treated as a nuisance to the surly staff.

Very cool restaurant and bar in a former hospital- great eclectic decor and lovely service. Very tasty food. We had Asian chicken and croquettes for starters. Chicken could’ve been slightly crispier - maybe chef should leave the sauce on the side, then duck cassoulet, fish cakes, sea bass and beef burger. All good size portions and very tasty. Only comment is the cassoulet should come with potatoes or some carb without having to at for a side. Cocktails looked ace but we had a bottle of house (Verdejo) white wine. There is a bar area too where you can just get drinks. Definitely recommend this place.

Sat down and got our drinks, the waiter ‘oli’ left us for ages to order food and went to other tables that got in later than us and took their order while we waited and just continued to walk past us, very very disappointed and angry at this service 😡😡

Food and drinks were good. Some confusion for service after seating which caused a long delay but they were very apologetic and compensated us

It was a lovely surprise this place we booked last minute and were lucky enough to find a table for two. It was packed and jazzy. That’s how I would describe it! Lovely little gem

Unassuming exterior leads to an amazing interior Service was swift and attentive Didn’t have to wait too long for our orders to arrive, we ordered apple tart with a 20 minute warning but we got it in less than 10 minutes. Highly recommend but you must book!

Always previously used this cafe as loved their banana & peanut milkshake. They have now redecorated and it’s awful, so dark and depressing in there now, far too much black. Whoever designed this has got it so wrong, won’t be going back.

The service staff was too few for the number of guests. Not the fault of the individual service staff who were trying to be as good as possible. The bartender also had to cover some reception duties. Two children meals came 20-25 minutes after the adult items but the adults waited a while before beginning to eat. The childrens food was comped without even asked. The steak was ordered medium well but was small and dry. The cheddar/potatoe bake was good. Duck confit was good.

The best chip shop ever. Chicken pieces are gorgeous and the cod mini fillets are so tasty
