What have they done! This was once the best fish shop in Billericay and the quality of the fish is still the same,however I believe they have changed their cooking oil and now the chips are so dry and the batter not so good. Please bring back the original oil!

Two senior cod and chips last night, fish was dry, no flavour at all, Ok, it was cheaper than a regular portion £7.30 each, but tasteless

Haven’t been to this chip shop for years Ribs were undercooked and then smothered in a cheap vinegary bbq sauce, southern fried chicken one drumstick and 2 pieces of what i can only describe as chicken carcass it wasn’t a breast or a thigh or a leg just the boney back piece of the chicken which I would normally throw away covered in southern fried batter. Chips were nice. Won’t be going back 🤷‍♀️

The Codfather is a chip shop that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. The chips are amazing, and the saveloys are cooked to perfection. Food was quite pricey and nothing to write home about - good service. Surprised they could not do a Hawaiian burger, so had to pop to Tesco - buy my own pineapple and finish construction myself!

different patatoes being used so not that nice. Place could do with a lick of paint. loads of flys in there tonight contaminating everything. Not a blue light in site to keep them out. Disgusting

I have been to this shop many time and the the food has always been very good with generous portions.

You wont be able to beat this fish and chip shop. Their food is constantly excellent with good sized portions. I highly recommend to all! Not sure if this is a one off, but they were recently closed Tuesday and Wednesday when website states only closed on Sun & Mon.

I live in London so I always stop off here after a day out at Southend. It is THE BEST fish & chips for miles. The owner is an original London chippie owner and believe me he knows his stuff. They get it right all the time.

Just had one of the best fish and chips in a long time. Cooking in groundnut oil makes all the difference. Both Fish cooked to perfection and chips were lovely and crispy and service was excellent.

This is the first time I have been to the Codfather since restrictions have been lifted and I was disappointed to find that non of the staff either preparing food or serving had any face covering. Whilst I understand that face covering is not mandatory it is a guidance requirement and I found that I was the only person in the shop with a face covering. It does not help others to consider wearing a face covering when the whole team deem it not necessary. Given the increasing infection rate I will not be using the Codfather until such time as infection rates are back under control as I cannot trust the attitude of this business not to be a spreader of the infection.

So sorry for this review, but can only go by what I got at the time. Unfortunately my chips was saggy and re-cooked, my battered sausage was chewy n soggy, saverloy was blaned. I also ordered for other people, they also was not happy with there items I got them. So I guess we won't go there again.

It wasn't a great experience of a traditional Fish and chips. Firstly, fish was too oily, and tasted like it was cooked long before my arrival. Chips had exactly the same problem - oil. So guys, please change it once in a while it really helps.

£3.50 for this? I looked about for a grill and thought maybe it's in the back. Asked for a cheeseburger anyway. The guy hesitated then said ok no problem, of course it was no problem you gave me a pre-cooked burger with microwaved cheese on the bun, reminded me of a garage version but even worse. Never again! Chips were slimey too. (see photo) binned the lot.

Having tried all the local Chip Shops in Billericay.. this is by far the best. The quality is outstanding along with the service and friendly staff and owner. I would give it 10 stars if i could.

Came in with special dietary requirements and couldn’t have been more informative and helpful, went out of their way to ensure what I needed was made in the most accommodating way possible, even being insistent it wasn’t an issue. Would 100% use again, great food and great staff!

Grate fish and chip shop only diopinting thing twice I went there and once had no curry sauce left and other no ribs left bit genuinely think that's because it's so busy and the food is amazing

The food is good (I tried fish and chips, some pie and English breakfast) and the waiters and waitressed are very very kind and make you feel welcome. Prices are low, so I recommend eating here!

Dinner for two; one cod, one haddock, one large chips, two saveloy, mushy peas and a gherkin. Just under £20. A few chips left! Sated.

This fish and chip shop is absolutely excellent. The fish is fresh and the batter is crispy without being saturated with grease - obviously the oil is changed very frequently. The portion sizes are quite large (not a criticism) and, which is always a good sign, the queues are long, but quickly served. One of the best fish and chip ships I have ever visited.

Visited the Codfather for lunch today and the service was outstanding. Nothing was too much to ask. My son likes the skin removed from his fish before being battered otherwise he wont eat it and they done this for him with no hesitation.The chips and batter was golden which indicates the oil is clean and fresh and the chips are light and fluffy and taste just superb. The portions are quite large but it's to tasty you will definitely finish it all its so morish and not heavy at all.The staff really go above and beyond in this place and you will not find a better chippie for miles (literally). The customer service is excellent and they're all very welcoming. And the shop is very clean and tidy too.Definitely worth the D-tour on your way to/from the seaside. Will most certainly be going back.
