Brilliant food. It’s better than your average ‘pub grub’. Food is fresh and really tasty; good portions and really fairly priced. Staff are friendly and go above and beyond!

As a family we booked The Gun for a funeral reception. The whole experience was excellent and the staff could not have been more accommodating. The newly refurbished room was a perfect setting. The large selection of food catered for all needs and the cakes were delicious. The bar staff were very attentive and even supplied take away boxes to take home some remaining treats. We attended the mothers day 3pm sitting for a three course meal with lits of choice at £35 per head,, decent bottle of wine for £22 , fabulous cocktails at about £8 each, this is our third year attending and although the serving staff were young, they we effcient, polite and bent over backwards!! Great team, one little note of feedback the 3 large pieces of chicken goujon starter could have had a tiny bit of salad served with it as my daughters, sticky chicken and another daughter who had the camenbert bites all served with a garnish and small salad .and it just makes the presentation go up a notch, we asked for two meats off of the roast list and this was accommodated, we also had doggy boxes as so much food which i served up for lunch the next day , delicious !!!! The biscoff cheesecake was dreamy but a little pouring cream would have been the perfect finishing touch .. ...outstanding the gun thank you

Attended a funeral wake at this place and found it very condusive to a successful gathering of this type, the staff were attentive and efficient in their service.

Came to the gun for a Sunday roast today with my husband and two kids. food was absolutely spectacular as always and staff were more than helpful, would always recommend the gun for food especially their Sunday lunch restaurant!

So I had my mum's wake here earlier today. I booked the newly refurbished 'Jasmine Lounge' at a cost of £300. In addition, the 'per person' buffet was £10.95 - so in total, it cost me over £800. As mentioned, the room has recently been refurbished, but I would say it's not quite 100% finished. A couple of the tablecloths were a bit grubby look and one had a burn mark in it. We paid for 48 people (the room is meant to hold 60), but there were only 4 tables with 8 chairs on each, so I had to ask them to put out another table and more chairs for everyone. The food was plentiful, and very beige - lots of typical buffet food - pork pies, spring rolls, chicken nuggets etc. a selection of sandwiches and a couple of large cakes. Towards the end of the afternoon, there was still a few sandwiches etc leftover, so I asked the lady if she had any takeaway boxes, and she gave me around 6, however they were quite small. So my dad went and asked for a few more......I was utterly gobsmacked when the chap behind the bar said I'd have to pay for them! OK, they were 10p each, so 40p in total - hardly gonna break the bank, but I was just genuinely amazed and shocked they want to charge me for them, especially as we had probably spent over £1,000 if you included the bar tab! I know its only 40p, but the attitude of the guy was not good, and it was already an emotional day, and this just annoyed me even more - if my dad hadn't been there, I would have asked to speak with the manager about it! 40p - I still can't believe they made me pay it! 😱😫🤬

Wonderful lunch. Asked for a quiet table and table 21 was ideal! The young lady who served us was polite and professional. The fish and chips outstanding chicken supreme plentiful. 3 meals 2 glasses of wine and a soft drink 2 coffees under £65!!! We hope to be back soon. Thank you x

I have used this pub for all my events. My daughter’s 18th’s and my father-in laws wake. I always find the staff helpful and polite. They go out of the way to make sure you have everything you need. I have also gone to some of the events they put on. The food is amazing Could not find a better place to hold a celebration.

I have been in the gun pub a few times now for Sunday lunch without problem but today was a very different story, Me and my partner are getting married in June and wanted to hire the hall at the gun pub I was told after I had finished my lunch the manager would be over to talk to us prior to the week before I had already had a chat with the manager about our interest in the hall,, after speaking with the up most rude manager today I was told she would have to say no to us hiring the hall but would not give us a explanation I can only assume it's because we are from a travelling back ground but she was very quick to take our 150 pound food bill today I would never ever go back to this pub with such a rude nasty manager that we dealt with today stay clear,!!!!! PRIOR TO THIS REVIEW I WROTE MY CHILDREN ARE AT A AGE WHERE THEY DO NOT RUN AROUND OR UPSET ANYBODY AND NOT ONE MEMBER OF STAFF HAVE EVER APPROACHED US AND ASKED US TO KEEP OUR CHILDREN AT THE TABLE I THINK U HAVE US MIXED UP WITH SOMEBODY ELSE U EMBARRASSED ME AT THE BAR IN FRONT OF A FEW PEOPLE TELLING ME U WOULD NOT TAKE OUR BOOKING AND REFUSED A REASON WHY THEN WALKING OFF VERY RUDE U PURPOSELY WAITED FOR US TO SPEND A GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY TO THEN TELL US U WOULD NOT EXCEPT US SO WE ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT AT UR PUB BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO HOLD OUR PARTY MAYBE ITS BECAUSE U WOULDNT WANT A LOAD OF TRAVELLERS IN UR PUB BUT THANK U FOR UR COMPLETE LIES ON THIS REVIEW UR MANGER SKILLS ARE SHOCKING!!! BEST WISHS.

It's a nice place, but unfortunately, we were there for a wake, so we can not comment on food service and atmosphere

I love the Gun pub. It's staff are lovely. The beer 🍺 is good. And the food is tasty. 😋 I was here the other night for a birthday party. We had a private area, food spread was fantastic. I loved the extra mile they went to bowls of freshly cooked fries, all over the place. Everything was perfect.

Attended a celebration of life lunch at the Gun Pub. The food was fabulous. Delicious tomato soup, then succulent chicken, the crispiest roast potatoes ever with yorkshire pudding, stuffing and some wonderful fresh vegetables. And topped off by a magnificent apple tart. I was so full, I could hardly move afterwards! Plus the team were so friendly and really looked after my vegan partner who was also delighted with his meal.

We attended for the Christmas Fair as sellers. Great event, fun atmosphere with good musical entertainment. Didn't eat so can't comment on food

We did not eat there, but other people were, and food smells were delicious. I would go back and eat there

Main course arrived promptly & was very nice , had to clear the table afterwards and put the cutlery on the bar , waited for our deserts but to no avail , asked barmaid could we have our deserts now please & sat down , waited a long time but no food , asked barmaid again and was told that she had forgotten to ask for them , so left the pub without our deserts or a refund , it’s a shame as the food is always nice but the service is shocking because they don’t have a waitress

Popped into The Gun for a quick lunch with my son after working locally. Quite simply the best pub burger we have ever eaten. My son loves a burger and he's a bit of an expert. Handmade burgers with just the right sauces and dressing. Perfection!

We used the gun pub for our very small Wedding reception and they looked after us so well, the staff were so friendly and helpful you could not fault them, the buffet they laid on was delicious and catered for everyone they even let us come in the night before and decorate the snug that we had hired!!! All in all we had a lovely day and will always have fond memories and would definitely suggest it to any one that asked!!!

We had a wake there and we were looked after by all the staff from start to finish. The food was excellent and we had many comments from family and friends on this. Thank you so much to all the staff.

We moved to the local area a couple years ago and always drive past so decided to give it a try. Unfortunately the Sunday roast we had was disappointing, only option was to have it in a giant Yorkshire pudding, half of that was mashed potato …no roast potatoes which is criminal for a traditional roast! Tiny bit of vegetables that may of came from a steam packet. Why not team up with a local produce supplier and support one another? Won’t be returning sadly due to poor food quality from kitchen, and I must admit the decor in the pub area is much nicer than main restaurant which looks out of place with the gold effect paint everywhere and chintzy lighting - doesn’t flow. Waiting staff were lovely, that’s about all sorry!

We have been going here for quite a while, sometimes during the week for something off the varied menu but mostly on a Sunday for a roast as we found it excellent value and very good. We were very disappointed on a recent visit to find the Sunday menu no longer has a choice of roast dinner so we chose not to stay. We were told by a staff member that it was the summer menu but the roast dinners have always been on offer. The price had increased quite a bit but wouldn't have minded paying the extra for a full roast. We have been to many places in the area and always found this to be one of the best and almost as good as home cooked.

Very good meal. Hunters chicken…,best we’ve had for ages. They fitted us in at very short notice (18 people) and the service and food quality was top-notch. Thanks for a nice evening.

We held my sister in law's wake here for 100+ family & friends as the pub is perfectly located close to Basildon crematorium. The staff were very professional and helpful and the room, private bar and garden were perfect for mingling and sharing memories. We had a slideshow running on the large TV and played music via bluetooth from their speaker system. The buffet was generous and had good variety. Would recommend.

We visited on a Friday afternoon using the function room. It was laid out for a wake following a funeral at the nearby crematorium. The quality of the buffet was one of the best I’ve experienced with a very wide choice of food. It’s a compact room and I’m guessing there were 50/60 people in attendance, but the bar area was fully staffed resulting in only a short queue. The entrance to the pub is grand.

Okay if not on a time schedule waited 3/4 hour for toasted sandwich had to take with us as otherwise we would have been late for funeral.

To the lovely staff who took care of our posters when I dropped them off, and those who greeted us yesterday and manned the bar to keep people watered, always available with a smile! We don't live locally, but will return one day- and in the meantime I thoroughly recommend this lovely pub!

Went there for a funeral wake we went to the middle sized event room ,well laid out and plenty of room for the 50 people allowed separate toilets and entrance to the car park own bar and friendly service couldn't have wished for better price of the room was on top of the price per head for food but very reasonable and ample portions to the degree we allowed food for 5 less than were coming and at the end the staff were giving out boxes so people could take food home with them, highly recommend,

A family and friends gathering after the Funeral of a close family member. Very impressed with the service and buffet. Good sellection of draft beers and cider and well stocked bar. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Buffet was excellent, I particularly enjoyed the glazed drumsticks. Good sellection of cake too. Highly recommend. .

Had my father's wake here. Staff were efficient and friendly when organising and during event. Buffet was very varied and good quality., especially the home made cakes. Room was perfect size and nicely prepared.

Popped in bank holiday, great food Kebab & chips 👍, service was great couldn’t find any fault definitely worth 5 🌟. And they let us take our dog into the beer garden. Well done 👏

Food is always amazing and staff are lovely. The normal menu has so much choice and desserts are a must! We most recently went to the beer festival and before that the Christmas market. Both events were great and will definitely return!

Popped in for my neighbour as had a wake here. It's easy to get to, nice views, clean inside pub and the restaurant is lovely. Staff friendly.

Best roast I have had away from home for a long while

Had meal of bbq pork tonight for king coronation. Meat lovely but chips were disgusting full of black bits and lack of flavour. Obviously used out of date potatoes.Big let down consideration full price charged. Big let down

Long time since I was in here but got an invite from a neighbour got me back in and was surprised by the place, friendly staff, good food and drinks reasonably priced. A coke (as I was driving) and a small house red came to £6.60 which I thought was good.

Had a lovely Sunday Lunch( roast dinner with a. Starter and desert) The food was huge portions and great value for money too. The service was outstanding Defo will visit when I am in the area again.

Visited the Gun for gathering after funeral, had booked small room and buffet for 30 people. Food was excellent with plenty of tea and coffee available. As only 1 min from crematourin is an ideal venue.
