Thank you, we had my daughter's Baby Shower in the function room and it was excellent. The afternoon Tea was plentiful and delicious and the lady who looked after us did a excellent job. The whole afternoon was memorable and would recommend to choose Magic Mushroom for any event .

Friday night dinner with friends. Great evening with fabulous food. We all ate from the set menu which was terrific value and delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive but not over the top. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic Sunday lunch for my husband’s 80th birthday. Service was terrific, always with a smile. Food lovely , and very good portions.

Having had a wonderful lunch with family for my husbands 80th birthday in 2022 and experiencing the quality and quantity of food served there, it was with no hesitation that after he passed away earlier this year I chose the Magic Mushroom to cater for the wake. The staff could not have been more helpful and professional, the food served was of exceptional quality and everyone attending commented on how good it was. Consequently I booked for a family lunch for my 75th birthday and again everything was perfect. Thank you for making my significant family occasions unforgettable. My late husband's main interest was good food so he would have been happy that we again chose to celebrate here.

We had the private function room for our engagement dinner, the restaurant was extremely accommodating to special needs and certain requests. We couldn’t fault our servers in any way at all, lovely atmosphere and great food!

Excellent value lunch set menu that was absolutely delicious and washed down with a very reasonably priced bottle of Chablis. We will be returning.

This place is a beautiful little restaurant, the blonde lady who has worked there for years is one of the most accommodating waitresses I’ve ever met, nothing is ever to much trouble, she always greets you with a smile & a nice chat. They have inside and outside seating, the front of it can be quite deceiving as it doesn’t show the outside seating which is around the other side away from the road. They have a carpark just opposite so it’s easy to park The food is lovely and I can honestly say in the last 4 years I’ve never once had a bad meal here, the only thing that has ever happened was they hadn’t cooked the rice on time with the dinner which was quickly rectified but that’s it. They do an assortment of dishes with a good choice, everything is always really tasty and freshly cooked. We have been here lunch times and evenings all of which have been lovely. I would recommend this place for everything it’s quality of food, atmosphere and the great staff.

Perfect Sunday lunch Wonderful food , great service cannot wait to return

Never even heard of this place before, but the kids booked it for a family Sunday lunch, and it was the dog's dangles. As a party of 8 adults and 4 children, we were ideally seated at a large round table in an area where the children could move around without disturbing other diners. Plenty of friendly staff giving good service, lovely roasts and vegan choices.

We visited the Magic Mushroom for the first time today and we were extremely impressed. This is possibly the best Sunday Lunch we have had recently. I could not fault the food or the service. The restaurant is beautifully laid out and the staff are attentive but not in your face. We had the three course set Sunday lunch for £32.50. The food was amazing, beautifully presented and soooo tasty. This was superior to the Gordon Ramsey Sunday Lunch we had St. Paul recently. I highly recommend.

Food was amazing we ordered the Moroccan lamb with couscous and it was cooked to perfection, cocktails were really nice as well , we ordered side dishes such as parsnips and cabbage which we also couldn't flaw!

Went to a wedding here, the venue is light and airy and the staff are very friendly. The food was delicious and mouthwatering (portion size was high end restaurant as opposed to kebab house quantities) Overall a very nice venue and if I was in the area again I would probably have dinner there

Disappointed tbh. I booked a lunch for my fiancé 50th birthday and they wasn't ready for the time we booked and seemed put out when we arrived on time. The set lunch was average and over priced for the quality. To much truffle added to the risotto and the prawn cocktail left a lot to be desired. Lots of flies and was hard to eat in peace because of this. I would not return.

Lovely food in a beautiful countryside pub. We have eaten here for dinner and for Sunday lunch, and both times have been exceptional.

I hate to leave a not so good review for today’s experience as I have previously been for the same experience… a cream tea and had a brilliant time but today was not up to par at all. Obviously the cakes were slippery and not very nice due to the heat maybe they should have been brought out later….last time staff were very attentive constantly asking if we had enough tea and offering a fresh cuppa I really couldn’t fault it…. It was a while ago so maybe your service has changed. It was just a bit disappointing and we wouldn’t rush back.

Went for an afternoon tea with a group. Was delicious. Group member who had gluten free wasnt complimentary of the cakes but said the scones were amazing. Sausage rolls delicious. Staff very friendly ... let us in through the back door so we didnt need to walk round.

Always lovely food here. Friendly , helpful Staff who are both professional and very welcoming. I find the food is underplayed on the menus somewhat, therefore the little unexpected items are just a delight. This is a great little find in Essex x

We popped in on the off chance that we could have lunch today and are so pleased that we could. Had a wonderful two course meal On the terrace and the quality of the food was superb. Service and presentation was fantastic and to be fair, the price quite reasonable. Would definitely try again.

My husband booked for Friday night, the 14th June for our anniversary. Really looking forward to it as we hadn't been there for a long time. When we arrived we could see quite a few people milling about and wondered what was going on. We were shown to our table which was in the middle of a Wedding Reception. We felt very uncomfortable and conspicuous especially as the table with the wedding cake on it was next to us. I did say to a waitress that perhaps when we booked we should have been told there was a wedding reception booked for that evening. The Waitress said that the wedding party wasn't suppose to be there at that time and had been asked to leave. Obviously no one took any notice. We were well through our meal when the last of the party left but we then had to sit and look at a table with all the debri left on it. Then a lad broke a glass and we had to sit there while he got a broom to sweep up. Food was a bit over priced and it may seem a bit nit picking but when you pay i.e £8.50 for a dessert you expect real fruit on it not tinned. My husband was given the wrong dessert with a very sad strawberry on the top obviously out of a can. It's Summer surely with the prices the Magic Mushroom charge they could got to fresh strawberries. Lastly the price of two glasses of wine were taken off our bill but it doesn't make up for the evening on a special occasion. I do have to say that the staff were very good.

Met some friends for lunch during the week and from the moment we crossed the threshold, we couldn't have asked for a better service, our server was smiley and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding, it really was. We all had the chicken with asparagus and potatoes that were cut into the smallest slivers and pieced together. How do they do that?? The chicken was soft and succulent and soooo tasty. We ordered extra vegetables dishes and each one was cooked to perfection. My two colleagues had the panacotta which they told me was lovely and I had a blackberry cheesecake with lemon sorbet and that was just the right amount of sweet and tangy. Fully recommend it. It was so good we will be going back again.

Celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary at the Magic Mushroom lunchtime on the 14th of April. Absolutely gorgeous meal. Staff friendly and attentive it was busy but the staff were amazing no delay in our courses making sure we had drinks etc and checking that we were happy with our meal. Highly recommended. We have been before and will definitely go again

Our visit was for a birthday lunch , it was a return visit having had supper here about a year ago . A small irritation was being seated in the middle of the dining area right in front of the kitchen access which meant people passed us on both sides frequently. Unfortunately there were electricians still working on the lights so tables were limited . The service is excellent, attentive and friendly . The food is good , we both stated with the chicken parfait , on toasted bread with an onion marmalade type relish . My main was chicken , very good quality and the vegetables were perfectly cooked , presentation is very nice . We didn’t have dessert as neither of us was relaxed with the constant movement around our table , busy from one side is fine but when it’s all around you it’s just distracting and we just couldn’t relax . I’ll definitely return as the food and service are very good , but we will ensure we have a quieter side table .

The restaurant was amazing and beautiful, the food was absolutely delicious and the staff worked so hard long into the night to make our day perfect. I took my dad here recently for a birthday lunch. I was very impressed with the service the atmosphere and the food. I would definitely return for another visit.

My companion and I visited on Sunday. This was my third visit and my companion has been a regular diner. We have developed a good rapport with the staff who are all very attentive to our requests. The food as always was excellent. We had the halibut as our main course which we found very good and just the right sized portion. My companion said she now considers the Magic Mushroom to be Our restaurant. I'm sure the staff who read this will realise who is writing this. Many thanks.We will be back soon.

This restaurant produces top quality food and service, time and time again! We took some of our Family there for lunch last Sunday. We chose our food from the Sunday menu that has a good selection of starters, mains and desserts. Although they don’t show two courses on the menu, they will accommodate if necessary! If you haven’t tried this restaurant, put it on your list as I’m sure that it will become a favourite for you! Closed Monday and Tuesdays!

Always have a great meal here. The food is always delicious, and the staff are attentive and knowledgeable. We decided to try the lamb saddle sharing platter, and WOW, it didn't disappoint. It was like having a banquet. So much delicious food. The lamb was tasty and plentiful. My husband who only eats peas, normally loved the carrots, and ate both. A true complement to the chef. There were minted peas carrot puree and 2 absolutely fabulous lamb pies. The best pies I've ever eaten. Full of tasty meat and vegetables with the thinnest crispy pastry crust. We could only manage one, so we took the other one home. No room for pudding after this feast. Good value for what you get. Well, worth a try.

We booked their private room for my husband’s 60th birthday for a Sunday lunch with friends and family. We had a set menu but we needed to change it a little and add to it which was all handled beautifully. The one thing I thought was very odd were the supplements. Extra for a prawn cocktail, cheese and biscuits etc. these were very nice but nothing special. Just charge a bit more and leave out the supplements! The room, food and service were all top notch. We bought a laptop with pictures that were put on the television and our own music to play. I ordered a cake from them which was reasonably priced and fabulous to eat! I would highly recommend this venue to anybody.

Saturday 16th March 2024. We came to celebrate my Mother and Father in laws 61st Wedding anniversary and had a superb meal experience, very helpful and friendly staff, tasty and well prepared food. Highly recommend. 10/10

Our first visit was a success. We chose from the set menu, mackerel pate starter and chicken main were delicious. So much flavour and cooked to perfection. Extra side vegetables of vegetables order, again well Cooked and flavour. Lime cheesecake for desert, smooth with just a hint of lime flavour, I would have liked a little more of a lime taste. Coffee way too strong for me but some on our table loved it. Nice decor and roomy. Staff gave an excellent service were attentive. Good selection of drinks. It was very warm in there, surprisingly as the restaurant had tall ceilings and is spacious. There is a car park over the road.

I visited with 3 friends for Sunday lunch. We were seated promptly and given menus. Orders were taken by attentive waitress. Food arrived and looked good. The starter was prawn coctail. The prawns had very little taste and there was far too much lettuce. There was also a £2 surchage for what was a standard starter. The roast beef that 3 of us had ordered was tough and inedible. The waitress quickly removed the food and offered us another choice. The rost pork was fine but not what we wanted. When the bill arrived there were items included that we had not ordered. All in all not a good experience. I shall not be returning

Great for Celebrations in their Private Dining Room. There are cloakrooms just for your use. It’s close to the kitchens, so food is piping hot. Your own private bar. Could not fault it, we were very happy with the Service

We came here as a couple for our Sunday meal at 1.30pm. The food is of good quality and tastes amazing. We wasn't going to return as had a bad experience last year but being as its so local to us and the food is always good we really wanted it to be a regular. The young waiters were efficient and friendly. However, after ordering our initial first drinks, we weren't asked anymore during our time there, if we wanted any other drinks or if our food was OK? The service isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be. They had a dedicated wine/drinks person that used to always check if you needed anymore and was always pouring the wine. He's no longer there, It's quite upmarket and not the cheapest so it's the things you would expect to see. We were seated in the conservatory and I'm not sure if it's the way the room is but the noise level was incredible. we couldn't hear each other and were sat next to each other. The other room near the bar & entrance seemed a lot better. It's such a shame as the menu is varied and the food cooked is wonderful and tasty. But the service and noise level has let it down for us again so we won't be returning.

What a brilliant restaurant! We always go for special occasions and went today for my mum's birthday and it did not disappoint! We all had a Sunday roast and was the best roast I have had in years. Food was incredible and the staff were all so professional and attentive. One of the best restaurants in Essex highly recommend!

EDIT Jan 24 We had a date night the first in many months and chose the restaurant, food was outstanding, however felt that they could do with more staff. Our booking was 7:15 and we left at 10:30 in that time we were asked for drinks just once. We had 2 drinks plus a coffee all evening and the 2nd we asked for as food arrived. We had actually finished our meal and were simply waiting for someone to ask if we wanted the bill from 9:30. In that time although we were enjoying having a chat, could have sank a few more drinks in between. Food zero complaints as they accommodate even the trickiest eaters, but this experience lacked the service from our previous visit, the restaurant was busier since our last visit, yet needing an extra pair of hands would be my only criticism. ****** Previous review from 5 Years Ago Had very high expectations as some of the reviews were really good and wasn’t disappointed. I cannot name a single restaurant who can cater to allergies as well as here. We didn't phone ahead and warn them of a dairy allergy but they were fantastic. As everything on the menu is cooked from scratch they could tweak the ingredients on any item - meaning we were not restricted to a limited number of options.my wife ordered from their usual menu and they served a dairy free version of everything from starter and main course! They even had a vegan ice cream which was not just plain vanilla aswell as a special banana cake and both were home made. Will be booking again without fail. Staff were super helpful and friendly too - highly recommended.

After three phone calls, and giving my details twice (they got my email wrong even though I spelt it out to them?) I was assured I'd receive an email so that I could confirm the booking (within five minutes of the call). I received the email at 1.12AM and was then given a one hour ten minute window to book before it was cancelled. Strangely, I was asleep in bed when all this happened.

Service was exceptional. Drinks selection was great. I would have liked some more veggie options though and some simple butter with the bread selection at the start rather than the onion butter. Flavours in what I ordered were overpowering and a little too salty for my taste this time round.

Had a family Christmas lunch - food was great service was first class. Couldn’t fault the restaurant highly recommend. Plus it’s a local business which we should all try and support.

Myself and friends dined at the Magic Mushroom today. We had the Christmas lunch menu which was very good value. The food was excellent and was served piping hot. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

It's lost its Magic I'm afraid....Standard service...no real attention to detail...shame really as the food is pretty decent....didn't feel really welcomed...treated as just another table to serve....robotic service....first requirement if it was my restaurant a vibrant credible head waiter or waitress to bring some of the Magic back...

Went today for Sunday lunch for my birthday...all 4 of us absolutely agreed it was the best roast dinner we had ever had !! ...topped off with wonderful staff and impeccable service .....seriously can not recommend this place highly enough!!

I have given overall 1 star only because the SERVICE!!! The service OMG!!!ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!!!!. If you are planning to celebrate big party at the private dinning area then it is definitely a WRONG PLACE!We have spent almost 3K for 18people but received the most awful service. This place has no clue how to serve big parties. One waiter has served 18 people. She confused everyone's order and ended up having some deserts not being on the table at all. She was rude and always with unhappy face. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANY TO CELEBRATE BIG PARTY HERE. I had too much stress instead of coming to the party relax and enjoy x Change manager at this place!!!!!!! AWFUL!!! The only reason this place is still Open is that the food is absolutely delicious.

Had an absolutely outstanding evening on Friday 28th October. Service was top notch from the moment we entered, friendly, professional and not over bearing. The food was superb. Starters of King scallop and pigeon. Great taste and presentation. Mains were also outstanding - stuffed Sole and Chicken ballotine. Complemented by good wines and a cocktail to finish. The restaurant was very roomy, nice background music and all in all a great evening.

My first visit, wife's 3rd. I was impressed with set meal price (Friday night) £32.50 (3course)as the quality of food was excellent, service was good, my one quibble was price of wine, for what was a very average Rioja, it's noticeable that there are no wine prices on website, probably wise, overall a very good evening, and clearly popular as by 8pm it was very busy, would definitely concider using again.

A little cramped. So much so that wheelchair users have to go outside to get to the toilets. The food was very good, although, when they say the sirloin is best served pink, they were wrong. I like the idea of rare meat, but it was rather chewy. Prices are high, but you're paying for high class food. Too much attention payed to the presentation for my style. Portion sizes were reasonable. Menu choice was also reasonable. Staff were very polite and friendly.

This has to be one of the best restaurants to eat in Essex , lovely food in a lovely setting ! It’s nice to go somewhere too that people can dress up for !! Never had a bad meal here or found cause to complain , great place !

Food good and tasty! Unfortunately the Service was not of the standard one hopes for - failed to bring one of the 'starters', A request for a sparkling bottle of water took 20 minutes and an order for 2 liqueurs and a peppermint tea again 20 minutes (at least). It appeared that servers (drinks and food) were not designated to tables and therefore resulted in the Service being haphazard.
