Just popped in for a drink and ordered a sandwich which was really good, fresh and well presented. Went back a week later and had another nice lunch. The staff are very friendly and we felt very welcome. Great pub will definitely call again

beautiful pub, amazing staff and community, thank you to the whole team that welcomed and supported us during my uncle bobbys funeral, he was a regular at the pub and they were absolutely amazing throughout our whole visit, it was amazing to see how much the community of the pub as a whole loved him and supported an amazing send off cant thank you all enough

Great cozy but vibrant pub. Unfortunately they don't do food but it would be great if they would consider Sunday Roasts. Live music was fantastic, place was packed with people, and the nice staff worked hard to get everyone served in a timely manner.

Excellent, character pub with outdoor marquee for live music, easy to assess. Plenty of bar staff and choice of drinks.

Great place for a drink on a Friday or Saturday

Wrote a 5 star review over a year ago so thought it would be a good idea to do another one! The reason is that this pub just gets better and better. Always busy but the manager always ensures there a good number of staff serving so no matter how busy you do not have to wait very long at all; normally straight away. Not only that, every member of staff is so friendly. Always smiling and if something is not right (which is rare) they sort it out straight away. They really are a credit to the manager. I understand the food is excellent as well. Fantastic music nights and this pub really is a “ community” pub. One of my friends travels from Danbury as he loves the pub so much. The clientele are also very friendly and if they weren’t then Cath the manager would soon sort it out! She does a lot for charity as well. A mix of ages also helps the atmosphere, 25 to over 70, I am in the latter! So thanks and keep it going!

Great service! I came in with my Nan for some of their nice sandwiches and Jane was very helpful and managed to sort out a takeaway bag for my nans leftovers. Would definitely recommend a lunch on the tables out front on a nice day.

Popped in today for a sandwich and a lunchtime pint. The ladies behind the bar couldn’t have been more welcoming, JANE in particular was magnificent and made me the most amazing chicken tandoori wrap…. Highly recommend ..

Nice old style pub and always busy at the weekend, Unfortunately it's not got a great vibe for women. A load of pervy rude old drunks often stood right in the way of the women's toilets. Myself and a few friends had been touched up or had to squeeze through this group. I was told that they are regulars and it's the same every weekend. Be good if the management could ask these guys to respect female customers, Keep hand to themselves and hang about and group away from the ladies toilets. Wouldn't go back because it's not nice to have to worry about visiting the loo with a group of pervy men leering, Rude comments and grabbing our bums. Be a really great pub if this was sorted out.

Great local pub, always with a great atmosphere. Low ceilings and great selection of beer makes for good times every time! UPDATE - despite living in the town for over 20 years I went to the Chequers for lunch for the first time. Now my goto place for an excellent value and tasty lunch. My son had a jacket potato (less tha £5!) And I had a ploughmans (£7.50). Really gutted I hadn't tried this sooner.

Truly wonderful local pub. Central location on the high street! Staff always attentive and friendly, beers (and gins) great! Cath runs a constantly steady ship here! Check out regular live bands always top notch!👍 they have a tiny little kitchen, but produce some lovely sandwiches and ploughmans lunches! ...and vegan wraps too! excellent.

My friends and I went to the Chequers for a drink as part of a day out in Billericay and as it was lunch time I decided to have some food. I ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich with a small side salad and some crisps. I have to say it was one of the best sandwiches I had eaten in a pub ever. Absolutely stunning. Will definitely be going back for more.

The place was awesome. Incredible atmosphere for a early Saturday afternoon. Super busy but quick service and lovely staff. Decent prices. Lucky to be able to get a table space and relax. Gets very loud but guess that due to everyone shouting over each other. Apparently 'Strictly 21's' but there were several children and babies on site. Beautiful venue and loved the addition of various artists paintings of the building and local area dotted around the pub.

The best pub in Billericay. The owners and all the bar staff are extremely welcoming and accomadating. I had my birthday drinks here and it was the best choice. We are also regualar drinkers in this pub. Great atmosphere and good drinks. They made my 30th one to remember. A big thank you to kath for going the extra mile.

Live in North Essex and started to venture south a bit more recently to meet friends. This place was great on the Saturday night we went, busy but room to move and felt like a proper 90s pub, tunes we're banging, 90s club classics. Great pub, we'll be back soon.

I was adopted by the chequers family and friends a real warm welcome was given in return for my beer tokens. The landlady Kath runs a tight ship and welcomes all that wish to come and enjoy. The garden is great with a Fantastic marque area for big parties and live music inside and out most weekends. Do your self a favour and visit the high street and the chequers over a weekend you won’t regret it

Went there on August 2018 (Late review, just in my minds!) with one of my friend for drinking Guinness and chats until last bus to go Chelmsford. Very oldest pub in Billericay. 10/10

Thursday night music with group called 33 rpm. Great music, great atmosphere, great service and just a wonderful atmosphere. So friendly staff and punters. The manager Cath does everything she can to provide a good local pub where you are entertained and just feel good. The only downside is that I have a hangover writing this! Thanks to everyone.

This pub is ‘The Best’ in Billericay! It’s exceedingly charming, the atmosphere is always great. They are always putting on different events & the staff are always very friendly.

This place is one of the very few ‘real pubs’ left. It’s such a quaint pub, full of character & charm. The staff are always friendly & welcoming. Always full of life with a great atmosphere. It certainly deserves a TOP place in the best pubs in Billericay.

Called in for a drink on a Sat afternoon when visiting friends in Basildon. Looks & has the feel of a country pub. Excellent, efficient & friendly staff. Nothing seemed to much trouble for them. Nice sitting out the front & watching the world go by. Will be calling in again next time we are in Essex.

The Chequers is a wonderful showcase of how best to adjust a pub to a pandemic. I've visited The Chequers a few of times when I've come down to visit my family near Billaricay, and each one has been an identical 10/10 experience. The staff are happy and competent, everything is clean, and there's still so much atmosphere in a bar that is adhering to every single COVID restriction. I will admit, I had never been here in the before-times, but I'm definitely looking forward to visiting Kath's place once things truly open up!

Went here last night and found the new provisions for outside serving really brilliant. Good atmosphere. The marquee looks great, decorated well and nicely lit. The service was really good and all the staff (of which there were plenty) were extremely friendly and welcoming. Well done, hopefully after all the months of suffering because of closure, this will be a great success. Excellent addition, recommended.

Dropped in without a booking impromptu after grabbing some shopping . During very testing Covid times , Chequers ( Matt and team ? ) have great system in place and felt “ almost “ normal . Well done guys and gals 👍🏻👍🏻 great pub anyway 💪🏻 oh and the Exmoor Gold particularly satisfactory

Absolutely brilliant.. Even tho we didn't book a table the staff were amazing and accommodated us and being my birthday was the best.. So thank you so much for allowing us to have a few birthday drinks to end the perfect day
