We were walking in the Peak District for a couple of days with an overnight stop at the Cheshire Cheese. It is the perfect place to stay, ideal for walks over Win Hill to Ladybower or over Lose Hill and on to Mam Tor. Check-in was friendly and welcoming. The rooms were quaint & spotlessly clean. Our 2nd port of call was the bar. A nice range of well kept ales were on the pumps. Food is typical pub food - good portions, well cooked. I can recommend the veggie breakfast which set us up for our walk over Mam Tor. All in all a very pleasant stay - a great pub in a great location.

After a loooong days hike in the peaks we got to this charming little venue seeking good food and the comfort of a good bed. We travelled with our two hounds which can sometimes be a challenge but nothing could be further from the truth from the doggie hamper through to the attention, treats and a little something special for the pooches at breakfast. The dinner and breakfast were both great, the staff were ever so friendly and went out of their way for us. The sleep was perfect too, just what the Dr. ordered. We were both very happy with our choice and have already booked to be back next year. Thank you.

Warm and welcoming Bed and Breakfast. Nice touches including fresh milk for tea or coffee and good selection of toiletries available. Breakfast plentiful and tasty with good selection. Customer service second to none given flat car battery in the morning resolved by the very helpful landlord and his trusty jump leads - thank you so much for that

Both food and service was excellent Roast Beef, Roast Lamb and a steak pie where readily ordered and absolutely spot on. Also had several desserts Brioche pudding and Apple crumble and again amazing. Waiting staff super tenterive and really cheerful. Loved the walk up to the downfall and really enjoyed food and drinks afterwards 😊😊

dirty and to avoid. Where do I start? The carpet leading to the rooms is disgusting, also in the rooms, not only stained and with burn holes but covered in bits of dirt (see photos) hadn't been hoovered for ages. The window was broken and wouldn't shut, the shower door was broken, the shower wouldn't turn off and leaked gallons of water every hour making noise, the shower mount was broken, the shower drain hole was blocked and flooded after two minutes. The corridor smells badly. There is no room service, they don't make up the beds. The waste bin was full of the tissues of the previous occupants. And then a sudden terrible thought came to me that perhaps they don't even change the bed covers between customers and pulled back the duvet cover to discover two long black hairs from a previous room occupant. Then to cap it all off there was no heating the second night, and no hot water the following morning, making showering completely impossible. There is no one around to complain to in the mornings, just a young guy who comes to do breakfast (which starts at 830 by the way!), the owner arrives at 12. No sign either morning of any room cleaning service going around. Checking in, they didn't even ask if I came with a car. If I hadn't have asked myself I wouldn't have registered it and probably have picked up a parking fine as it is controlled. If there is internet I don't know as they didn't pass on any details and after you check in there is no one to ask...

We parked up with our motorhome today. Had a lovely sandwich lunch and then later a meal and a few drinks in the pub. Could not fault anything . Staff were friendly and we had our two pesky greyhounds with us also very welcome. Highly recommend to fellow travellers

Enjoyed our visit to The Old Nags Head. We have completed a long, long walk and was ready for refreshments. In the end we decided to also eat here too. I myself had loaded fries and my partner had steak pie. We both enjoyed our food and the service was quick. We would return again. Lots of walkers which was fine with us. Can be a little loud with chatter 😀

We loved our lunch here, and the service was excellent! It was a big contrast with another place we tried earlier, where they halted service for 10 minutes in order to "catch up" - how ridiculous! We were made to feel welcome at Stars, despite it being busy, and couldn't fault our delicious food, at a good price too 😋. They're missing a trick by not having Buxton pudding on the menu though - surely we're not the only people who like to sample local specialities when visiting a place for the first time?

Delicious pizza's! I've tried the peri peri and the BBQ pizzas and they're delicious as well as their gooey cookies and loaded fries! Yum!
