We stayed for a weekend. Room 5 was very comfortable and quiet. We ate both evenings in the restaurant. It was lovely to eat fresh food all homemade as opposed to processed freezer food often served in pubs. Staff were friendly and very professional. Vegetarian choice was good and breakfast had good options. We would like to thank all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable

After a loooong days hike in the peaks we got to this charming little venue seeking good food and the comfort of a good bed. We travelled with our two hounds which can sometimes be a challenge but nothing could be further from the truth from the doggie hamper through to the attention, treats and a little something special for the pooches at breakfast. The dinner and breakfast were both great, the staff were ever so friendly and went out of their way for us. The sleep was perfect too, just what the Dr. ordered. We were both very happy with our choice and have already booked to be back next year. Thank you.

Disappointed that the dining area is crammed with tables, so you can’t have a comfortable conversation without other tables hearing. Food was ok but nothing special and a bit pricey but what isn’t these days. Subsequently went to the Little Mill Inn pub at Rowarth, less than 5 minutes away and the food was excellent, less expensive and its dog friendly too.

Called in today for a couple of drinks only to be over run by barking smelly dogs not a good thing for somewhere that does food the dog owners had no regard for anyone else only there selfish selves it's a shame as the pub does good food but not in that sort of environment it made us leave early as we felt a little bit intimidated by it and we can see it wasn't full oh i wonder why ? Lovely kebab and pizza ordered from here, not seen a separate salad served in a tupperware box for kebabs before but a great idea for takeaway kebabs to prevent sogginess. Pizza was well cooked and the doner kebab well prepared and very tasty. I journeyed from Hartington to pick this up so a 20ish mile round trip. Recommended!

I had my Wedding at Buxton Pavillion in the conservatory in August and it was fantastic. The team who managed our event did change several times but the hand over between staff was so seamless that nothing was forgotten and everything ran perfectly on the day. I found everyone who I interacted with incredibly professional, friendly and prompt at replying to messages. Everything that we asked for they were able to do and nothing felt like too big of an ask for them. I would highly recommend this venue for weddings as its stunning, our pictures have some out so beautifully and the team were fantastic. All round a 10/10 experience!

Excellent pizzas, I date very large women and I usually order them 2 16” pizzas from here. They always say how good the pizza is. I’m so glad Norfolk pizza helps me look after my women. I don’t know where I’d be without them, probably still a virgin.

Family and friends Sunday lunch. Roasts were awful; very very dry beef (only meat option); frozen shop bought dry soggy roasties; lacking flavour watery gravy and not a lot of it; soggy deflated Yorkshire pudding. My mouth was so dry after chewing so hard on the beef. Best thing were the boiled carrot batons. Lasagne seemed shop bought/ processed sauces etc, and the 2 slices of frozen garlic bread dry and lacking flavour. The sting was that the lasagne was around £18, and the roast £16 - the portions were very small too. Could get better at Morrisons cafe sorry to say! Service was friendly, and the free pool and darts made up for the very disappointing meal. We’ve been going to The George for at least 10 years and it was very good 10 years ago; good value for large tasty meals (especially the blue cheese burger on a floury bap with curly fries and salad for under a tenner - i know prices have gone up for various reasons so it’s not the price that’s an issue if the food is decent and a good portion, but I felt well and truly ripped off). Please improve as we want to visit more as we’re local and love Hayfield and don’t want to see another pub close (sad to see The Royal go - Sportman down the road and Packhorse are great! As is Old Hall Inn in Chinley) due to lack happy returning customers. Good luck!
