We loved our lunch here, and the service was excellent! It was a big contrast with another place we tried earlier, where they halted service for 10 minutes in order to "catch up" - how ridiculous! We were made to feel welcome at Stars, despite it being busy, and couldn't fault our delicious food, at a good price too 😋. They're missing a trick by not having Buxton pudding on the menu though - surely we're not the only people who like to sample local specialities when visiting a place for the first time?

Had a Full English Breakfast but would be best described as average. Claims to be all home made but you can literally hear the microwave dinging away in the background. Sausages weren’t bad but the Hash brown was cold and soggy. Cafe is rather small - not sure if the staff are aware that customers can hear all their conversations and them moaning at each other.

Very disappointing overall. Waited over 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Menu claims that all is homemade, however all evidence suggests that the food served was tinned. My daughter, as a celiac, asked for a gluten free meal and it was presented to her with a bread roll.

Food is always “nice”. Chips are lovely, but why does the owner employ some of these staff. She asks what I want without any eye contact and, certainly, no trace of a smile. She walks away while I’m still talking to her and there was no greeting at all. Lucky the food’s nice.

So disappointed today as in past this cafe as always been brilliant,we ordered 2 small breakfasts and pot of tea for 2. after 30mins wait it arrived i thought i had been given a blunt knife as i couldn't cut the bacon, so i went for the sausage it wouldn' cut either i managed to stab it but it was rubbery, the egg looked like it had been cooked on a griddleit had all black bits in it and the yolk was hard totaly unedible they had obviously been cooked and left to dry up. on a brighter not the tea wasn't to bad. my husband and i always thought this was a lovely cafe and made a point of eating there when we visit Buxton, we will now have to look elsewhere when we go as we will not be returning.

We called in to The Stars Cafe in Buxton for lunch. We had two Quiche chips and salad One meat and potato pie peas and chips. Coffee, Decaff tea, and a bottled drink. The portions I could only describe as child's. It's not satisfactory for hungry people. Our bill came to £33.50. Which most people would think reasonable. However, as I stated, very poor portions. I went into this nice cosy, friendly cafe where as soon as I get inside I am given a warm friendly welcome. I ordered a nice breakfast with a pot of Yorkshire tea. My partner had same but a nice coffee instead pot of tea. Service was very steady and relaxed unlike some other places where you are rushed, the waiting staff made us feel welcome and loyal. Upon departing the cafe we was kindly given a nice parting goodbye Definitely worth a visit and worth the price . Will definitely return again and again

We visited Buxton for the day and this was the first Cafe we came to when walking up the Main Street. First impression of the Cafe, nice outside but totally different inside ...... very grubby and in need of modernisation. We had full English breakfast, I can honestly say it was the worst breakfast I had ever had. I noticed one of the staff go downstairs to the freezer and bring up a bag of farm food frozen sausage that he tried to hide from customers! The sausages were tasteless, the egg was rock hard and the toast was that very think ‘no frills’ bread you can buy from supermarkets to feed the ducks! We both had a coffee that’s was tasteless and very weak. Just past this Place there is another Cafe on the same side which is far better, Avoid if you don’t want to waste your money.I wish I had read the reviews first, even though there is a Trip Advisor rating in the window, higher!

I think this place is under new management as it looks like it was a nice place at one time. It looks nice outside and has a small number of outside seating. When you go inside is when the problems start. They say all the food is prepared fresh which is something they need to stop saying as it clearly is not fresh. Bacon semi cooked is served warmed up as it appears all their food is. The premises is very small so understand they have little room for a proper kitchen but they should be honest about this and not dress up mutton as if it is lamb.

Disappointing and food is not fresh even though it is advertised as fresh. Stars looks OK in and out but the nice exterior and pleasant enough interior ends there. I am a big breakfast eater and have review many breakfast places in Buxton and have to say this is the worse! Everything appears to be bought cheap from Iceland over the road and is pre cooked/heated and then warmed before serving and not cooked fresh as they say.

I was unlucky enough to order the special, fish and chips. And I got fish and chips but the fish was the cheapest supermarket super value piece of fish if you could call it fish, I would argue that it's batter as it was about 50% that. They take an age to serve you and despite claiming their food is freshly cooked which it could be, all we heard was constant ping of a microwave. The tea was OK. We didn't stay for dessert. Instead we went to the Edwarrdian Tea rooms up the street. Which was like a different world to this place and the food was great.

I had macaroni cheese and bacon. The bacon was difficult to eat as it was just laid on the top of the macaroni in the pot. The plate contained the salad. I had expected the bacon to be in small pieces mixed in with the macaroni. My husband had the steak and ale pie but thought there was rather too much gravy. It would have been better to have had the gravy in separate small jug. Otherwise the meals were nice.

Clean and inviting turned into epic waiting times for basic food, can only hope they were understaffed as one cook one waitress and one on the till was not enough, too many items in the menu for one cook I felt. 55 minutes for pie and frozen chips is not acceptable, the next table waited 45 mins for a panini. After sitting at an empty yet dirty table (which doesn't bother me as I'm not the stuck up kind) we were greeted by a rude waitress who took our order. Two paninis took 45 minutes to come!! No apology. Chips were oven chips that you get at home. Didnt have time for tea and cake as the stay was up on our car due to waiting for the food do long. It was a busy period and we did wait about 10 minutes for food, but it was well worth it, i have never had a better tasting bbq chicken panini before. I would totally recommend Stars cafe, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the cafe itself has a lovely inviting atmosphere, and on the whole, made our day much more relaxed and enjoyable

I have been to this cafe many times when I nip into town to do some shopping and everytime I go is I am always greeted nicely by staff and find it is a nice environment to sit it. The food is always enjoyable and is a good value for money.

Blonde woman who works here needs to learn how to talk to people nicely. Went for ice creams for the kids at 14:40 and on entering she snaps to not close the door behind us. I was only being polite and didn't know it was warm inside. Went to order some ice creams, cakes and a toastie but she said in an eye rolling manner 'we're not serving hot food' I said 'what foods are you serving?' Thinking it was something to do with the heat; maybe they were only serving cold foods/sandwiches? She said 'only cakes and coffees as we're closing soon'. I just left with out buying anything as I didn't want to be a burden to her 16:00 closing time. If the woman was polite and explained things in a less snappy manner I would have settled for a few cakes and ice creams (without the meal). I would recommend self reflection and possibly communication training skills (unless it is due to a severe learning disability).

Family and friends Sunday lunch. Roasts were awful; very very dry beef (only meat option); frozen shop bought dry soggy roasties; lacking flavour watery gravy and not a lot of it; soggy deflated Yorkshire pudding. My mouth was so dry after chewing so hard on the beef. Best thing were the boiled carrot batons. Lasagne seemed shop bought/ processed sauces etc, and the 2 slices of frozen garlic bread dry and lacking flavour. The sting was that the lasagne was around £18, and the roast £16 - the portions were very small too. Could get better at Morrisons cafe sorry to say! Service was friendly, and the free pool and darts made up for the very disappointing meal. We’ve been going to The George for at least 10 years and it was very good 10 years ago; good value for large tasty meals (especially the blue cheese burger on a floury bap with curly fries and salad for under a tenner - i know prices have gone up for various reasons so it’s not the price that’s an issue if the food is decent and a good portion, but I felt well and truly ripped off). Please improve as we want to visit more as we’re local and love Hayfield and don’t want to see another pub close (sad to see The Royal go - Sportman down the road and Packhorse are great! As is Old Hall Inn in Chinley) due to lack happy returning customers. Good luck!

Rude ignarant staff, don't go there as it's such horrible service and even the managers don't give a damn when you complain.

This Wetherspoon's pub seems to prioritise serving food fast rather than quality. We ordered the vegetarian burgers and it was delivered in about 4 minutes. However the burgers were cold and the chips were soggy and cold. Very poor meal.
