dirty and to avoid. Where do I start? The carpet leading to the rooms is disgusting, also in the rooms, not only stained and with burn holes but covered in bits of dirt (see photos) hadn't been hoovered for ages. The window was broken and wouldn't shut, the shower door was broken, the shower wouldn't turn off and leaked gallons of water every hour making noise, the shower mount was broken, the shower drain hole was blocked and flooded after two minutes. The corridor smells badly. There is no room service, they don't make up the beds. The waste bin was full of the tissues of the previous occupants. And then a sudden terrible thought came to me that perhaps they don't even change the bed covers between customers and pulled back the duvet cover to discover two long black hairs from a previous room occupant. Then to cap it all off there was no heating the second night, and no hot water the following morning, making showering completely impossible. There is no one around to complain to in the mornings, just a young guy who comes to do breakfast (which starts at 830 by the way!), the owner arrives at 12. No sign either morning of any room cleaning service going around. Checking in, they didn't even ask if I came with a car. If I hadn't have asked myself I wouldn't have registered it and probably have picked up a parking fine as it is controlled. If there is internet I don't know as they didn't pass on any details and after you check in there is no one to ask...

The room was freezing cold and no hot water in the morning on the 2nd day, but the bed was comfortable. The heating didn't come on in the morning whilst I was there. Service in the bar was good, and the food was OK, but nothing special! Very noisy from passing traffic outside, I had to use earplugs. I wouldn't stay here again.

We booked a table for 4 and turned up today (27/11) after nearly an hours drive away only to find the restaurant closed!! We'd arranged to meet family for a reunion and they had about a 45 minute drive too! We had no contact at all to say the place wasnt open so not sure what is going on. Extremely unhappy😪

Booked via Hotels.com, received an email from the Hotel the day we were due to arrive to say our stay was canceled and to call for more information. Phoned and was told they do not work with Hotels.com (despite clearly receiving our details and still being up on the site) and were unapologetic. Still have not received a refund a week later.

Food was very good, both evening meal and breakfast. Young lad who made breakfast for us did a fine job. Rooms are a bit 'worn'...but for us three bikers, it was just right after a soaking ride over the Pennines! We would stsy again.

The proprietor seems to be totally disorganised; we booked ( and paid for ) a small family room over the phone. When we arrived a few days later, we were told that someone else now had the room and we were offered a double which we grudgingly accepted. The room was filled with a mishmash of furniture including a super king bed ( far too soft ), a 65” tele and an assortment of shelves and tables. The whole room was so badly laid out that there was only around 8 inches either side of the bed to squeeze by. To my mind, he had purchased a random selection of furniture from a house clearance sale. There was only half a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom so we had to pinch a roll from the gents loo in the pub. And… to top it all, there was only one sachet of coffee between us for the morning. All of the entrance doors were controlled by electronic locks which I think was very gimmicky; too much emphasis on tech, not enough on the basics i.e. comfort and practicality. On a positive note, it’s in a good location.

Qadir is the owner. He's not exactly got a great reputation locally. He made us feel very unwelcome by overreacting to a very easily solved situation, and making it far worse through a lack of respect, tact, and any type of management ability. I suppose there's a reason it has a low feedback score. We would never entertain the idea of going there again. Such a shame, as it's a lovely village with a very friendly welcoming population. Lucky that there are other great establishments to choose from.

The guy that owns the place is not on this planet. He's aggressive and an absolute balloon head Guys, if you're an alpha man don't go in, you'll probably kick him in. He proper deserves it

Friendly staff, and delicious food at good prices. The food was all fresh, excellent quality and tasty. It was so good, it was REAL food. Other places serve frozen, processed food, but I can't explain how good it was here! Big portion sizes, and cooked to perfection. Many thanks! We'll certainly visit again!

Lovely pub in picturesque village. Sat outside, to eat in the sun. I had chicken wings, which were the smallest I'd ever seen or had. But the lovely Halloumi fries made up for it. Expensive. But two other pubs on competition. Would try other food, menu looked fabulous for main dishes. The pub is the official start of the Pennine Way. Lots of country walks in the Peak District

One of the most underwhelming Costa's we've visited, in terms of overall experience.

My only critism was that room 13 had the kitchen extractor outside the window which made the room smell like cookies when I arrived. I had to close the window to prevent the noise and smell entering the room. The extractor seemed to remain on all night which could annoy some guests as it wasn't quiet. The breakfast was good and the location was very central.
