The Sycamore Inn in High Peak

After a loooong days hike in the peaks we got to this charming little venue seeking good food and the comfort of a good bed. We travelled with our two hounds which can sometimes be a challenge but nothing could be further from the truth from the doggie hamper through to the attention, treats and a little something special for the pooches at breakfast. The dinner and breakfast were both great, the staff were ever so friendly and went out of their way for us. The sleep was perfect too, just what the Dr. ordered. We were both very happy with our choice and have already booked to be back next year. Thank you.

What a great place, was looking for a stop over in our camper, free to stay as long as you buy a drink in the bar. Large car park overlooking the river and a field great for our Dog to run around in. Staff were extremely friendly and the food was lovely. Would definitley return

We stayed here for one night and had dinner and breakfast. Part of a hiking trip - what a fantastic find! Really charming staff and excellent food. The smoked salmon and poached eggs I had for breakfast were fabulous and my veggie burger for dinner was great - good quality ingredients, well cooked! Lots of places say dogs welcome but this place really means it. Also great outdoor areas and lovely real ales!

Excellent place to stay Room 5 was well decorated with everything needed. Beds, pillows comfortable. Bathroom clean with soft towels and soft water! We love that, at home the water is really hard. Breakfast menu really good, full English very well cooked and presented. I had fruit granola which was worthy of a photo but started eating before I thought about it it looked so good. Followed that with Salmon on cream cheese toast. Decaf coffee which is sometimes just instant wash served in a large cafetier and replenished readily. Service was excellent. Nothing negative to say, would definitely go back if in the area.

We'd booked a stay for 2 nights B&B. When we pulled up at the Sycamore Inn, initial observations from outside, was it needed a little TLC! On entering the Inn, we discovered our initial thoughts were totally wrong, the interior was decorated to a very high standard. We were greeted and shown to our room, it was a good sized room with King size bed, bath/shower en-suite. Everything was there, tea, coffee making facilities, hair dryer, TV, plenty cupboard/cabinet space, it was warm and clean! Breakfast selection was plentiful and of good quality, all the usual accompaniments fruit, cereal, juice's, toast, full English.... copious amounts of tea / coffee were available! As the Inn was in a small village, we had booked evening meal for both nights before arriving... we weren't disappointed, the evening menu was varied and the meals we had were superbly cooked and presented! The staff couldn't do enough to make our stay anything but superb, we'd like to give a special mention to front of house.. Letishia, what an ambassador for the Inn she is! Also to Nicolas... for catering to our whims... thank you!

Excellent Sunday roast, could not fault the food at all. Had syrup sponge with custard and apple crumble with custard which were both huge portions and beautifully made. Gravy was delicious and staff were happy to bring more when asked. The pub doesn’t look too inviting from outside but it was lovely inside and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

I saw all the great reviews so I was really looking forward to staying here We arrived after 3pm as check in is 4 which is later than most places we visit First appearances were underwhelming but on entering the property the warmth of the lovely young lady who greeted us made up for that We were shown to our room straight away (room 1) This room is below the kitchen so bare this in mind if you like to relax before dinner I think overall this pub/hotel is looking tired and definitely needs a refurbishment The room was satisfactory but the barn door on the bathroom was a little annoying when using the toilet in the night (very noisy) We ate in the restaurant in the evening Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and can’t fault the food It’s a difficult one to review because the overall experience was a good one It just didn’t bare any resemblance to the reviews

We’ve stayed at the Sycamore a few times and have so say it’s so lovely and we are always made welcome, the rooms are nicely decorated and furnished, nice comfy bed for a great nights sleep, fabulous coffee in the morning, exceptionally good quality tea and coffee! The food here is delicious and i can definitely recommend an evening meal here, after a days hiking you’ll need a good meal!, I would definitely recommend the breakfast.. I think it’s the best breakfast we’ve ever had!! Darren and Sammy and their staff really do make sure you have a very comfortable stay, with exceptional quality and variety of food and drinks, Lovely cosy comfy pub, we will definitely be back.

What a nice place great venue came here for a family meal great wholesome food and great service very friendly. We were there on a grim rainy day however we all commented that it looked great for a sunny day

Wow!! Absolutely stunning Xmas dinner. Perfect Turkey and the trimmings were spot on. Lovely evening and the waitress was personal and attentive. Lovely meal and so reasonable for the quality.

The room was dirty, with stains on the bedding and mould in the bathroom. All of the rooms are directly under the bar/restaurant, which means they are very noisy and the only window looks into the communal corridor, causing no view, no privacy and a lack of natural light.

We received a lovely warm welcome when we arrived here last night, which is always a good start. Our absolutely delicious food was served quickly and the portions were generous. All in all, couldn’t have wanted better and we will be back!

We haven't been for a while but we frequently revisit the Peaks. The Sycamore, a great pub to eat home cooked favourites.

Really pleased to be allowed access to room early as we arrived early for local wedding. Also that they found a dog- friendly room even though we hadn’t booked one with a doggy goody box which was a lovely touch Very clean and comfortable room Loved the comfy bed. The owners and their team were all super friendly and professional. Superb breakfast. We will definitely return

Warm, welcoming and professional, all staff were helpful and accommodating. Rooms were spacious and clean, we found the beds very comfy. Good size bathroom with powerful shower. WiFi was easy to connect to and reliable. Large carpark, outdoor seating and grassy area for children to play. Breakfast was delicious and nothing was too much trouble.

Rang in advance to book our camper on the carpark overnight, spoke to a very friendly lady. Good beer, great food, friendly staff. Just a little expensive, but its a sign of the times. A very quiet overnight stay. Would return.

This was a fantastic short break, set in beautiful surroundings, a very good sized car park, lots of outside seating, a large area down near the car park, with plenty of bench seating/tables. A large area where children can play ball games(bring your own ball? i didn't ask if they had any). The hosts Sammy and Daz were truly welcoming and friendly, and managed all so well. I absolutely loved the food - got slightly addicted to the chunky chips and fishcakes! delicious. All of the staff were kind pleasant and attentive without being overly intrusive. The accommodation was lovely, my room had a double bed and i could look out of the window whilst sitting comfortably in my bed with a cup of tea, which both the tea and coffee were of good quality, I'm sure the bed linen was Egyptian cotton, best nights sleep in ages! There was a lovely well thought out dressing table with a mirror , enough drawers and a cupboard to hang clothes. A lovely on suite bathroom with a good shower. All very clean and kept well by house keeping. On the dresser there was an information folder with wifi codes and local attractions. The pub is above the rooms but at no time did i notice any loud noises. the pub part has several rooms dining area cubby and bar area, again all clean lovely and inviting, the locals were also very friendly. there is a small town just down the road and a bit further a few bigger shops next and similar. I mostly went for rest relaxation and recuperation and this was achieved with ease,,, for me it was idyllic I mostly just

My husband and I arrived on Friday 9th June 2023, we stayed till Sunday 11th June our son held his wedding reception here, the welcome from Darren and Sammie was amazing, nothing was too much trouble the way we were all looked after was fantastic, food was excellent from breakfast through to the wedding meal, buffet in the evening just exceptional, all staff were so friendly nothing was to much trouble, we can not recommend the sycamore enough they really are a top class place to stay, this was our third time we stayed and we will definitely be back , the service and friendliness of all staff is just five star, Jackie Roseblade

Stayed in the massive car park in our campervan. Lovely bike ride down the sett trail. Went for food in the pub which was excellent. Lovely friendly staff who greeted us well. A deffinate winner. Chips were 8/10 great well cooked steak. If you wish to stay ring and book in advance.

We enjoyed our visit. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. The interior of the inn is very well kept and decorated. The food was lovely too, and of a much higher standard than the average pub. The area is wonderfully scenic. We will be back.

As always the staff are brilliant. Absolutely no complaints about their service. They go above and beyond. I eat here quite often and have always had excellent food. I really appreciate the fact they do half portions which are invaluable for older customers. BUT on this occasion I ordered the green veg melody risotto (not available as a half portion). The menu says it’s “cooked in a creamy arborio rice” …. mine was a sloppy soup with bits of rice and vegetables in it. So much so that I had to ask for a spoon to eat it. Yes, it was really tasty which was why I ate it … but it was NOT a risotto, not what I expected and which should have been, at the very least, of a porridge type consistency. When I complained (& I reiterate it did taste good), I was told that was the way it was supposed to be. I’m sorry … it was a soup not a risotto. On paying the bill I said I was dissatisfied and, to give her credit, the waitress gave it to me for half price. However I would have been much more satisfied if the “half price” option had been offered without me asking for a reduction.

Excellent staff. Very welcome. Rooms were good and excellent bathroom. Food was very good and great atmosphere in the bar. We had a dog which was made very welcome. Good facilities for walking dogs. Downside was location of the rooms. They were situated under the bar and restaurant. Could hear footsteps on Saturday night until midnight. On Sunday it quietened down about 10pm! Nothing we could do about it.

This wasn’t our first visit to the Sycamore. We go regularly throughout the year and always at Christmas. The same wonderful friendly welcome always awaits, along with a roaring fire in the winter. Our kids and teens are always in tow as are our dogs! Fabulous home cooked food, fabulous wines and always a local beer for the blokes! Nothing is too much trouble for Sammy, Darren and the team - and the puddings are literally to die for!!!! Never had a bad experience in all the years we’ve been going! Thank you guys 😍😍

No social distancing by any of the staff, however when the landlord and landlady aren't making any attempt to social distance, there's no example for the staff to follow. Disappointing set up given The Sycamore has the room to provide a safe environment. Just not good enough to have staff in no PPE leaning over you...and no attempt to take details for track and trace either. Wont be returning

We had lunch here last Friday. A very warm welcome from all the staff. A roaring fire made for a cosy setting.An excellent menu with lots of choice. The thing I liked best was that you could have small portions. This was great, meaning I could have three courses, and enjoy, without feeling bloated.I had mushrooms in cream sauce. Served with a warm baby hovis type loaf. We both chose the caramelised onion and cheese flan. It was delicious. Lovely fresh salad and gorgeous real chips. Syrup sponge and custard was divine. The food was excellent but the music was dire! Even when they changed it, it was equally as bad, and didn’t do much for the ambience!

Every time we visit we have a high quality experience with food drink and customer service. I love the way the bar and dining areas are set out and he function room was perfect for our wedding. Our favourite is the steak night on a Thursday we make it a family treat about once a month. Good access for the less able from the front door off the main road and half portions available from most of the main menu which is great for my elderly mum as she has a smaller appetite and can choose from a range of dishes. Perfect for family meals out and we take our dogs out into the balcony area in warmer weather where you get a fabulous view of the surrounding hills.

Fabulous family friendly country inn with warm welcoming atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and will do anything to assist. Food is absolutely first class and also a bonus it has a dog friendly area to bring our furry family members with us. Also disabled access is Brilliant as sometimes bring 2 of our family members along who are wheelchair bound. We visit a few times a year and are never disappointed.

Is it a pub/restaurant or dog kennels, because the reviews seem to centre on how good the place is for dogs.

Firstly I am not reviewing the food ( we will definitely try it next time we visit though).We took our 4 month puppy to the Sycamore on Saturday afternoon - we live 15 minutes walk away so we thought it would be a great experience for our pup as we are trying to get her used to all situations.As I have said we only live round the corner but havent been in for years as we had a few iffy experiences with previous Managements ( there have been a few over last 10 years) - the same cannot be said for the current owners/staff they went out of the way to make the 3 of us feel welcome.We sat on comfy sofas in the snug and immediately a lovely member of staff bought over a water bowl/ blanket and a dog biscuit ( If your a dog owner you know how special this is).The pub was fairly busy for a February afternoon - food looked very good (as i said, next time!).The gardens at the back are extensive so great for a quick toilet break ( for the humans there are inside toilets too!!!)Upstairs is the restaurant and bar area with the snug, down a flight of stairs ( or ground level from huge carpark) is a livelier bar that I think is the function area too.We stayed a couple of hours and had a lovely afternoon.Once again thank you so much for making our pups first outing welcoming and most importantly one she will want to do again,:)

Stayed here while on a walking trip. Just a totally wonderful experience.The food in the restaurant is fabulous and is equally matched by the outstanding service. We ate dinner, breakfast and lunch and all were excellent.Our room (No 1) was spacious, warm and welcoming with a huge comfy bed and very large bathroom. Quality towels and toiletries completed the comfort. Excellent tea/coffee making facilities with more than adequate supplies, which is brilliant.The staff have obviously been wonderfully trained, they are happy, attentive and interested. The restaurant runs like clockwork.Daz and Sam, the proprietors are very friendly, making the whole experience feel personal. We will definitely return. It is a complete credit to them. Boxing day meal very small portions we both ordered cod in a orange and walnut crumb we asked for tartre sauce and they brought us horse radish by mistake which we unknowingly put over our cod when we realised it was horse radish we informed the staff and were told to scrape it off ....Rui ned the whole meal very disappointed in the staffs attitude to the ruined meal

Came to the Sycamore for Christmas Dinner, as usual the service, quality of food and the venue were absolutely amazing. We made the mistake of going to a local rival last year, so were a little nervous about what to expect, well you blew us out of the water with a phenomenal experience . Started coming here a bit more often recently as we now have a dog and they are very dog friendly. Called in tonight for a drink and ended up having some food off the nibbles&share; menu, food was excellent and plentiful and the staff were brilliant, so friendly and helpful, soon as we walked in they bought over some water and a treat for our dog Luna! Can highly recommend the Sycamore .

After visiting a local church in Hayfield we took a party of 48 for lunch. The food and service by the staff was excellent. Considering there were so many of us with different choices everything came out together and was served piping hot.

Tea at the sycamore last night, another super gluten free meal. Sam and Darren can't do enough to accommodate, even making dairy free custard. The choice of gluten free is fantastic. Highly recommend as the food, owners and staff are excellent
