Smithy Fold in High Peak

It's a boozer, in glossop, not to pricey, pretty nice I reckon.

Trying different weathspoons for breakfast on trips out, this one was in Glossop, all pretty much the same, very good value with as much tea or coffee as can drink

The Smithy Fold offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes it a perfect spot for a relaxed evening. Kat, the barwoman, went above and beyond to ensure our experience was exceptional. When I asked her to select a strong bitter for someone in my group, she didn’t just guess. Instead, she took the initiative to find out exactly what my friend preferred by asking for my table number and checking directly with him. This level of attentiveness and genuine care for her customers is rare, making Kat stand out as kind, helpful, and thoroughly professional. Highly recommend!

Good wetherspoons, better than stalybridge one.

A great pub and restaurant food and staff were great we love going there to meet up and have a meal & a chat

Usually good bar service, though often very busy. Food and drink well priced. Food ingredients well-sourced. But the short-order, inc breakfast, badly cooked. This isn't a greengrocer's and when the pizzas are off due to "technical difficulties" there still isn't an apostrophe in the plural of that Neapolitan junk food🙊

Nice modern looking Wetherspoon. Another unique carpet. We only called in for a drink, so I can't comment on food. I'd give it six stars if I could because the toilets are on the ground floor!

We stayed in the Travelodge next door and went in here for breakfast each day and for drinks in the evening. Breakfast was great. I think they were understaffed though as in the afternoon and evening when the pub was busy there were lots of tables that needed cleaning so it was impossible to find a clean table to sit at. The staff worked really hard so not their fault, they can only do so much. It was extremely busy and very noisy on Friday and Saturday which is too be expected from a Weatherspoons. The food and drink is fantastic value for money.

I went to the wetherspoons in Glossop to meet some friends. No parking for any people. Entrance for all people. As with all spoons, very good ales on show. Plenty of alcoholic drinks available, and food on a menu. All prices for everything very very good can't be beaten anywhere. This is all spoons not just one. The prices are so competitive. Of course if you go into city centres, prices are slightly dearer. Nothing much to add. There is a pay n display across the main road.

We sient some time in The Smithy Fold on a busy Sunday morning. We required extra help with a guest of ours with special needs. The staff were brilliant in not just speeding up our order ( there was a wait on food due to it being as busy as it was)but also on how they engaged with all in our group. Very impressed with all the staff particularly the manager and the lady who served us who was able to sign to one of our party and had visual aides that we also carry for communicating. A potentially unsettling visit was made so much more comfortable and stress free. Thanks guys. G

Nice clean pub, no sticky floors as you would expect at wetherspoons. Good service and atmosphere. Friendly folk and a good location for nerby, free parking and shops.

I'm very disappointed! Met my sister there, and we were so happy laughing a lot, but we were judged to be intoxicated. This is the ideal point to meet for us both. To go to the bar and to be told they couldn't serve us. Thought it was some kind of sick joke. Sat down with our husbands, absolutely aghast. We spoke to the manager, a young lady,who was lovely. She obviously made a snap decision and had advised her staff not to serve us. We had pointed out our unique situation, of having only just gained contact with each other. The young lady retracted her comments and realised we were not drunk from alcohol, but drunk on happiness......huge difference. We all felt it completely spoilt our day. I asked the lady to bring this situation up at staff meetings, Basically, do not judge everyone the same. I use Wetherspoons a lot, and eat there, have friends that work for the company. Not your best moment.

Last year food at Smithy Fold was OK but this year very disappointing. Food cold, eggs you could have played ping pong with them - rubbery.

Lovely place to visit if you want reasonably priced drinks in Glossop. Small outside area but usually there is a seat. I prefer outside than inside as it's not as full. Efficient service from staff.

I went for a steak and it was done beautifully. I had quite particular requests regarding my meal, but the new duty manager Josh ensured they were carried out, and carried out they were perfectly. He is a credit to the pub and chefs are good at what they do. I certainly recommend their steak and can only presume they put the same care into their other food.

Went here for a birthday dinner lunch mainly because it is usually OK and good value. But today was awful the table wasn't wiped it was stained and has for the meal we both had the classic pudding and peas and my husband had chips I had mashed pototoe my peas were cold and the mash was awful looked like it had come of left overs just thought I'd say the food should be hot not cold .

I have visited a lot of wetherspoons but I have never witnessed what I did today and to be honest I feel alil put off eating there again. Was sat near the food hatch eating my breakfast and watched as the kitchen staff built the breakfast orders by hand!! Not tongs. Hands!!! Not gloved hands.....bare hands!!!

If I could give no stars I would.. Sign on door says no motorcyclists.... Why?? is their money different to other people's, well wetherspoons you just lost a sack load of money because one of the bikers was there to actually book a birthday meal for 14 people... Guess who is the loser now... Disgusting...

Good for a drink and full English breakfast.

We had two breakfasts today. Both had cold baked beans, cold bacon and the rest of the food was lukewarm. We have complained to the management on numerous occasions about the food not being hot when served, but sadly no improvement. I know it's cheaper than most cafés, but there is no excuse for cold/lukewarm food.

Food and drink ordered at the same time via the App. Service very slow taking about 15 minutes to get the ordered drink and food taking 35 minutes. However, the food tasted OK and was warm, but my steak and kidney suet pudding was like a pie having a hard crusty exterior. Clearly microwaved or kept warm when it should have been steamed. Not an enjoyable experience.

Value for money. You can't get better. Had a great meal and the wife loved the pizza everyone happy at a great price 😀

Cheap beer and excellent range of drinks although often slow bar service. The cleanliness has improved since my last visit. Despite living in Glossop it is not somewhere that I go very often because there are plenty of friendlier pubs and lots of better places to eat.

Breakfast would be lovely but it's always like warm and that spoils it . There's nowhere else in the town as reasonable but every time we come breakfast is barely warm .

American breakfast is yummy. I came here everyday for 3 days and its yummy. Good and cozy vibes everywhere. Perfect place for my dinner after a pilgrimage.

Thought we'd go for a nice drive out over Pennines to Glossop and have a Spoons meal once there. Ordered Ultimate Burger for hubby and Burrito salad with an extra Chicken breast for me. Upon getting the Burrito salad, at first glance looked lovely. I then noticed that the "chicken breast" was just little tiny scrapings added on top, not actual chicken breast as stated on the menu. When I questioned this saying its not breast but pieces as I had paid extra for the "chicken breast" I was told that's how they do it, they pull it apart, i said but there isn't a full breast of chicken. And to me that is misleading and making people pay for something they're not getting, from this restaurant anyway. Eventually, after debate, I got brought a breast as you can see in pics. My next irritating bit of this visit is buying a larger pint glass of coke at an extra 20p, to find that one of the meals the glass was only a 398ml as the large one, hardly a pint but yet I paid the same price for both, hows that fair??. How do they get away with this misleading customers and not offering an upgrade when you highlight it, as a courtesy. The staff member who sorted and brought my chicken also had a big awful rant at someone in the kitchen which I thought was out of order too. Not a pleasant experience all round, won't go again.

What can I say it's a Wetherspoons 🤷‍♂️. It's a nice building with plenty of space and the food is ok but that's how I'd describe most Wetherspoons. Good value for money food and drinks so great place to go for a cheap drink or in the day take the kids for a cheap lunch.

Brilliant place but on the day of our visit the card machine was not working so cash only so had to go to local ATM which wasn't a problem but in bouncing down rain nope

Food was very average. Manger was rude, don't think he can handle being busy. Just think they like to stand around, chatting about how good they are..

Went in for breakfast and coffee. The breakfast was served within minutes and the coffee was good . No , it wasn't mitcellin star food , but cooked well and tasty , that's good enough for me and less than a tenner . Milk shakes on the drinks list would be nice

The cleanest, tidiest & brightest Weatherspoons we've visited anywhere in a long time & we travel a lot around the UK. Friendly, helpful staff & nice atmosphere. Drinks spot on as usual. We didn't eat here on this occasion as we had already eaten beforehand but the food looked good that was being served. We will definitely return next time we are up again.

It's Wetherspoons. You get the Wetherspoon experience. The drinks are cheap and the food is ok. The service here was excellent over a 2 day visit. The best thing about the Smithy Fold is that you don't have to go up or down loads of stairs just to go to the toilet. I will return.

Me and my family was out for my daughters birthday meal, spent a lot of money at the venue. Our food was served (minus my 6 year old sons food so the rest of the family had our food whilst my son didn’t 10 minutes passed I then went up to a waitress so to be met with the snottiest attitude! Safe to say not but 2 minutes afterwards the CHEF delivered the food to the table with an apology ! You could tell the food had been thrown together there & then after the complaint. This was the first time we ate here and I can assure we will not be returning.

Typical weatherspoons, you get your moneys worth. Had breakfast and all decent value (apart from the mushrooms, no idea how they cook them😁).

Was in Glossop and had to be there a couple of hours. Went to Smothy folder for break5 served from 7am, there were 4/5 others already enjoying breakfast. Staff helpful, good quick service. Nice and warm inside. Was a lot busier by 9am having arrived about 8.30am. Easy parking nearby for up to 3 hours. We had breakfast .

Celebrated a friend's birthday there. Got food and drinks for really competitive prices. Food arrived quickly and staff were friendly and efficient.

Saturday 30th December 2023 Today we had a very good experience in this clean, spacious, well run weatherspoons This place was very busy, full of the local community who were drinking and dining There was a good choice of locally brewed guest real ales This place is a good visit for real ales when in Glossop

We travel quite extensively and can honestly say that this is one of the finest “Spoons” in the country. I ordered from my table as the place was quite busy. I pressed the “pay now” button and within a matter of a minute or so my coffee mug arrived. Main meal followed quickly and was VERY acceptable. Same again with dessert, payment processed and POW, food arrives. I have yet to have a bad experience here, unlike Staines on Thames where the worst eating experience in the world is available on a daily basis. See you again soon.

First time I'd been there since I got disabled. The Wetherspoons where I came from, I'd always found the food just lovely! I'd strongly recommend the Smithy Fold! 🤗

I'm making an early morning journey from the Midlands to Yorkshire each Saturday on the run up to Christmas and wanted to break the drive with a cuppa and breakfast. Glossop is halfway and The Smithy Fold was the obvious option with handy parking and on the actual road I am taking. The reviews were promising and I was not disappointed. The Staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful, the service was quick and efficient, the food was perfect (I had a traditional English breakfast) and arrived as I was sitting down having just ordered it. Very tasty and just the right amount, all well presented and hot. The whole place was spotless and well heated. I enjoyed the break and the toilets are downstairs! I am looking forward to returning. A funny mixed bag of people but what do you expect from a pretentious place like that. Place is clean, staff friendly, and people heavily sheltered in life and weird. Been a few times over my travels and not sure why. Cheap I suppose? Parking can be a nightmare. Plenty of unnecessary large cars.

Went here as staying at Travelodge next door. Nice big spacious place, great prices for food and drink. Was in twice and staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Breakfast came very fast and hit the spot, the fried eggs still had a yolk.

Whilst visiting the area I called here for a couple of drinks. I was quickly served by a cheerful young lady. Just one table free on a Saturday afternoon with couples and families, what a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very efficient in delivering food and drinks, clearing and cleaning tables. Judging by the packed room, these customers were clearly not put off by a few negative reviews. I will be back!

I had a very good breakfast and unlimited hot drinks for £8.72 visiting this Wetherspoons (my 388th). No problems with any of the food. Service was very friendly and the place was very clean. Not too busy around 10am on a Saturday morning. Would like to have tried the ales, but my visit was too early for a beer. WILL return.

It's a typical wetherspoons, you know what you are going to get.

My friends and I visited here on our way back to Manchester after hiking in Peak District. The place is spacious and was quite busy. We managed to find a table which was quite dim in lighting and made it difficult to read the menu where the prints are small. We ordered via their QR code instead. I've been to Wetherspoon before so I know what to expect. I ordered Mixed Grill with additional fried egg at £12. The meal includes a hot drink and unlimited refills. The mug for my tea came to the table instantly after I placed the order. Then, my food came fairly quick piping hot which was perfect! Loved the mixed grill - all the meat weren't dry or chewy. Portion size was decent. Value for price. Hot drinks were limited to coffee and tea. It did say hot chocolate when ordering, as well as being advertised on the hot drink machine but it wasn't in the selection, so I just helped myself with several rounds of Tetley tea. Highly recommend this place for dinner. Safe and cosy place to be in and not too quiet.

Have to admit. Certainly one of the better Wetherspoon establishments. Staff seem friendly enough, good is nice, good choice of beers and the toilets less a 1 mile walk away 😀

Get a grip and do something about the poor quality cold food you continue to provide It maybe cheap but it’s RUBBISH Raise the prices and provide decent meals Just do something better !!

Visited here when staying at the travel lodge next door, lovely pub and as usual good priced drinks. However breakfast was terrible, beans on toast with poached egg stone cold sent it back and it came out again beans slightly warm, poached egg cold and solid and toast un toasted. Cheap but still not worth the money. Wish we'd gone into Marks and Spencers cafe over the road.

Nice place with plenty of seating. Can get a little noisy at peak times but service is good. Food is good .Place is tucked away at the back of the main crossroad. There are also other shops on the same little area x

Always a great place to drink and eat,on a budget.

This pub is within 5 minutes walking distance of the railway station, and to the bus stops. Car parking is close by. One of the Wetherspoons chain of pubs. As with others in the chain, food is uniform between them and the menu created centrally. Gluten free food is no longer marked on the menu but sufficient information is available via the Wetherspoons app or staff to make informed choices. I had a jacket potato with cheese plus a 'refillable mug' of tea, with ice cream and fruit to follow. The Smithy Fold is all on one level with good wheelchair access and the disabled toilet is very easy to find - follow the bar to its right hand end, turn left and the toilet is on the wall further back. Gents and Ladies are a little further on.
