Best pub food I ever had. The Wexford chicken is absolutely fantastic. Great beers to match and good staff. We definitely come here again. Only in Buxton for two nights this time.

It was a Friday and we both thad the special of the day Fish snd Chips. Can’t comment on the other meals as the place was not at all busy which is a bit of a warning. Food was edible but the fish a bit dry and the batter a bit tough. Certainly below average, Beer was good.

Great staff, Ami was an a legend, just what you what from an establishment like this. Credit to the staff, this is what makes a local.

Stopped by The Railway pub in Buxton for a solo dinner. I was pretty tired from a hike and stopped to refuel and recharge before the walk home. I ordered the 8 oz rump steak, which came with a supporting cast of mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, beer-battered onion rings, peas, and chips for £19.95 (1192 kcal). I threw in a bitter shandy for good measure, bringing the total to £24.20. The food arrived faster than a speeding train (*1st Railway joke), and the pub wasn’t too busy, which was a relief. My server, Paula, was attentive, though she seemed to be quite busy. The steak was cooked as I requested—rare, just as I like it, it was perfect. A carnivore’s delight! The mushrooms, however, were a bit of a fungi fail, a small portion, but the rest of the meal made up for it. As for the bitter shandy, well, it’s a shandy. What more can I say? The free Wi-Fi was a nice touch, allowing me to enjoy my podcast in peace, as I ate. Overall, it was delightful, and I might just choo-choo-choose (*2nd Railway joke) to return! It's worth a visit.

Excellent service with a smile and more reasonably priced than a couple of years ago. Very impressed with the service and food, especially as it was a busy Friday early evening.

Went with my brother for the Sunday carvery. Delicious! The staff were welcoming, helpful and cheerful. Carvery meat was perfectly cooked and there was a wide range of veg. Missed the roast potatoes though but perhaps that was because we ate at 4pm. Anyway the new potatoes were a good substitute. We had a yummy dessert and coffee. There was a nice comfortable atmosphere too. I can definitely recommend a visit here.

This is the second time I've been for a carvery , the first was a couple of years ago and it was fine but this time it was the smallest portion of meat I've ever had..I ordered a medium and it was like a kids meal..service was slow and veg ran out so ended up waiting for quite a while..I won't be coming back...go to Rudyard hotel it's so much better and cheaper..Rubbish don't go! I only get bitten once and definitely will be telling my friends not to bother coimg here

Spacious pub but the restaurant part lacked any atmosphere and the lighting was very bright. Food was ok but didn’t taste that fresh. The lads that served us were friendly and polite. Don’t think the quality of food was good value really. A shame as we’d been recommended to come here but we wouldn’t rush back.

The Railway is a large, open plan pub with a nice beer garden. Good choice of lagers and beers at reasonable prices. We dined here this time and i was somewhat surprised how really good the food was. Well worth a visit.

Good location just in the town centre, nice relaxing atmosphere when inside. Drinks are reasonably priced, clean and tidy bar area. Worth a visit.

Wanted to say big thanks for the hospitality and the amazing food. All spot on. To start honey chicken and lamb cofta both stunning. Then hubby had ultimate burger and I had feather blade steak what can we say it was delicious hot and great portions. Then I had morello cherry tart and cream. WOW. Luckily for us we broke down outside this pub. The landlord was very welcoming and helped us massively. We had just been food shopping and he kindly made sure our food shop wasn’t ruined. Lovely pub and great staff!

The Railway gave Buxton Ambulance Station, free Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day! They were absolutely delicious. The staff were so welcoming in our uniform even though they were so busy with the bookings they had to deal with themselves. It was a very kind gesture to do for emergency workers on Christmas Day. We really appreciate it, it gave us a real boost for the afternoon. Thank you sooo much!

We come here quite often. Love it. Relaxed lovely food. Today just 2 of us. Before there has been 14 of us and in January the 14 of us here again for 2 birthdays. Just love it thank you

What can I say service was fantastic, the food was fantastic and the company was fantastic too. If you’re looking to book a Christmas get together then this is the place to go. A 3 course meal for under £22. The price did not reflect the quality of the food. It’s one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a while.

In Buxton to watch Southport FC play, we went into The Railway for a couple of beers and lunch. We were well received and enjoyed excellent service, beer was good and food was very good. Credit to Nathan and his team, great job well done lads, thanks.

As I had done many time in the past I had the cod and chips option for lunch. I was disappointed to discover it now comes with deep fat fryer scraps scattered over the meal. They are supposedly salt and vinegar flavour but this was hard to detect. The abundance of fat was easy to detect however. Sadly the scraps were scattered over the fish but also through the peas. This necessitated some serious sorting out to avoid having to eat them. PLEASE LOSE THE SCRAPS, THEY ARE MOST UNPLEASANT! On the positive side, the premises were pleasantly warm on a cold day and the toilets were spotlessly clean as usual.

October 2023 Oh dear! My wife and I had a Sunday carvery 2 weeks ago and I did heap praise on the food and service! But today 29th October it it was awful, the before was ridiculously tough, the cabbage was undercooked and gravy was like brown water! We did complain and the manager did replace the beef with looked like brown tissue paper and tasteless and he did apologise, we had 3 different members of staff asking us "was everything alright" NO was the reply and all we received was "sorry" There was no offer of a replacement meal! So after this negative visit we will not be returning! What a waste of £28. Hero to Zero!

Absoluty superb pub owners Julie and graham were out of this world for us im a michellen star chef on a hotel boat and we got let down with our dry cleaners and they couldn't do enough to help us but besides that a top pub with top people I can't wait to see everyone again see you soon love and many thanks chef x

Julie & Graham are clearly not very nice people...there are plenty of lovely pubs around Whaley Bridge, my advice is go to one of those instead of this pit 👍

We have visited before a few years ago. Went back because we had a good experience. At first things were going ok, but 45 mins after ordering we had not been served, where other who had come in after were getting their food so went and asked what was happening, They had failed to deliver our food it had been cooked but now my gammon was cold, so they microwaved it and served it, mushrooms shrivelled up, gammon was now a biscuit. I called them over so they quickly apologised and cooked another gammon, by which time my wife had finished her food. The manager came over and apologised and decided to refund in full both our meals. Once cooked correctly the food was good hence my score. Would we go there again, yes we would but would be keeping a check on the service time. As a note we did not ask for a refund.

We visited Buxton on a rainy bank holiday Monday and stumbled across this place for food. The menu is wide-ranging, offering pub classics, steaks, salads and burgers. The prices are fair, not cheap, but not crazy either. We ordered halloumi popcorn and the beer battered black pudding and bacon fritter. On ordering my partner commented that the girl behind the bar was more interested in continuing her conversation than delivering good customer service. The starters were really nice, good portion size and we enjoyed these more than our mains of gammon and chicken. The chips were some of the worst chips I've had and I didn't finish them. Nothing to stop us returning, I just wouldn't have the chips next time.

Lovely British pub in the centre of buxton, great beers, excellent food, wonderful staff, especially Ellie, treated us as family.

The waitress was brilliant, singing away to the music in the background as she went about her work. She was really great, very friendly. We asked about the chillies on my Beef Brisket flat bread as I thought they gave just the right amount of spice without getting too hot. She re appeared from the kitchen with a takeaway container with 3 or 4 chillies for me to try. That is customer service! we have been here many times before and have only ever had only a positive experience. Look forward to returning soon.

We looked at the menu and saw a 2 Courses and drink deal for £19.95 My husband went to the bar the enquire about the drinks which was included in the deal He was very rude and blunt, his customer service was that bad, we left and went over the road to Wetherspoons

Went to this place for food and wish I hadn't, My wife ordered a lamb hanging kebab which wasn't hanging with chips which were cold and soggy. I ordered scampy and chips which was also soggy and cold, A kids birthday party was also in progress where the kids were running around like in a playground whilst the parents were hitting the bar! Wish i had walked out ! Never again, shocking place

the price of drinks is very exspensive, and the food is shocking. we orderd the wraps, they came soggy and mostly inedible. wont be returning any time soon. witherspoons is better and thats crap. wish i could have left no stars.

Great service, it wasn't too busy. Do try the Trailblazer stout. Took the cubs out for tea, so we ordered 8oz rump steak, lamb koftas, buttermilk chicken burger, classic beef burger with bacon & skinny fries, extra portion of cheesy chips. The portions defeated the kids. 2 x cookies & cream cheesecake, very nice & Ice cream Definitely have pudding here.

Today i and my friend visited The Railway for lunch. i have special dietary needs which where easily accommaoated and well attended to by our waiter Denver who was very considerate and attentive

My wife and I and her cousin and her husband visited the pub on consecutive nights on 16th and 17th of July and on both occasions we ate in the pub . The staff were pleasant , respectful and very attentive and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visits there. We can particularly recommend the steak and ale pie and the vegetable curry and both the mushroom and black pudding starters were superb . This pub is part of the Holt chain of pubs/restaurants and consequently the real ale was also top drawer , I particularly liked Fools Gold , a very good session ale . Many thanks to Nathan , the manager , and all his staff for 2 wonderful family evenings .

My advice would be to not order a steak because ours was tough, small, and square in shape. Didn't look or taste like it'd come from a cow. But other family members who ordered things like gammon and lasagne were happy with their choice.

Nice decor and clean. The prices of drinks and food are good, we had a really good time watching the football while we're enjoying our meal. I genuinely think this is Buxton's best pub.
