Absolutely lovely!! The vegetarian food was amazing and very filling. The service was great, Would come again!

Went with a group of friends - fantastic pub, lovely staff and amazing food! Portions are huge and the pie is a must!

We stopped by on a busy Saturday night after a walk in the Peak District. Although we hadn’t booked, we were lucky to find a table - but I’d definitely recommend booking to avoid disappointment! The food was delicious, with generous portion sizes (definitely didn't need the side of dirty fries we ordered!) and great value for money. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Visited her for Sunday lunch after it had been recommended. I chose the lamb shank, which was well cooked but the vegetables were all over cooked and the roast potatoes did not look like they had seen any fat, they were still white and soft. We then had to wait for a waitress to come near us to ask for the desert menu as we had not been offered it. The sticky coffee pudding was only half eaten, the caramel chocolate cake was not completed but the cheesecake was a success. My companion thought it was all ok but I will not be returning

Difficult to fault this pub, a great atmosphere, excellent friendly and efficient staff and amazing pies ..... what is there not to like? Pie night Thursday is well worth it with a range of excellent pies, great chips and a drink thrown in. Will be back again - one of our favourite haunts when in Buxton.

Visited with our dog while staying overnight in Buxton. Very cosy pub. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made a fuss of our little dog. Plenty of choice on the menu and the food we had was delicious and reasonably priced. Good choice of wines and beer and again, all reasonably priced. We went at 5pm on a Thursday and it was very busy. It’s clearly a very popular pub and I can see why. I would highly recommend eating here if you’re ever in Buxton

Lovely cosy pub. The food portions were huge and absolutely delicious. My husband had a small roast and I had the sausages and mash. The sausage were huge and locally sourced. Definitely worth a visit!

Very good Sunday lunch. Traditional, cosy, staff were all really nice. Did us a mocktail even though they weren't on the menu yet. Went here following a recommendation by "The Manc Chef" and we will definitely go again 😊

Absolutely lovely pub , the staff are really welcoming and very friendly , and very efficient . The food is totally delicious and big portions! We had our lunch and evening meal here and we totally enjoyed both, we sat in comfy chairs by the log burner it was just perfect . If your visiting Buxton my advice is call in you will not be disappointed.

We visited Buxton to celebrate my birthday and decided to try here for a nice atmosphere and a decent cocktail. We fell in love with the decor and the overall feel of the pub! All tables were full so we soon realised this was a good place to be! Tonisha made our first cocktail followed by 2 more from Jacob and they were all amazing! All of the staff were so friendly, chatty and full of smiles! We felt very welcome having never visited before. We booked for lunch the next day and this was amazing too! I didn’t catch the girls names from our lunch date but equally I couldn’t fault anything! My partner had whitebait (that he’s been searching a while for), chicken baguette and I had the Mac and cheese. Food was amazing, service was quick and efficient! Would highly recommend a visit here and if we are in Buxton in the future we will definitely be returning! Thank you to all of the team for making our evening and lunch so perfect!

Food was very standard pub grub but decent portion size. Staff seemed to not to know what they were doing. Also asked several times for the music to be turned down in the dining area which was ignored

Wow..... Visited Buxton for the day and am so glad we chose to eat here.. the staff are super friendly and helpful and couldn't be anymore welcoming to us.. my favourite Kind of pub, cosy, charming and very traditional.. the food was also superb.... we had the Fish sharing platter which had prawn cocktail, beer battered fish fingers, whitebait, large battered shrimp and chips... everything cooked to perfection and piping hot. We also had the steak and ale pie which is most definitely the best pie we've ever had... and we've had many as were big pie lovers... will 100% be returning here eventhough live over an hour away... can HIGHLY recommend you coming here if you Visit Buxton....

Given that we couldn't find anywhere else to eat mid afternoon, this place was quite accommodating. Good service, warm comfortable environment, the food was quite delicious and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.

Stopped for a quick hot drink and a bite with my wofe and 6 m.o. baby and I was pleasantly surprised with a cozzy atmosphere and friendly service. They were full but yet they found us a table.

Got dragged into the pub by my dog. We had a nice table by the Christmas tree. We ordered 2 drinks and then had fish & chips. The food was very tasty and plentiful. I actually left some. The staff were very polite and attentive. (Review by Brian the Spaniel) What a lovely cosy place. Nice tiled floor kept warm by an open fire. I was hidden under the table but a lovely lady saw me and offered me a bowl of water and some biscuits (I was promised some meat scraps but they never arrived) so for that reason The Old Sun Inn gets 🐾🐾🐾🐾 and a half out of 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾. We went for Sunday lunch on the 9th December. Having enjoyed excellent Sunday roasts on a number of occasions, we were disappointed this time. The beef was tough and the roast spuds and Yorkshires were flabby. Also the lamb shank was tiny! When I mentioned all this to Chloe she apologized and offered us a free round of drinks. On paying the bill the Manageress also said sorry and deducted 15% off the total bill. All in all, fantastic service and we'll definitely be back. Thanks again to all the staff - especially Chloe.

Ten of us went for a birthday on pie night excellent very attentive staff ,with a great humour ,the only down side is that if one of the staff gets the order wrong ,and we can all make mistakes they gave to pay for that meal which if this is correct I feel is very unfair and might be illegal

Had a great meal here on Saturday evening, The sausage and mash was easily the best I've ever had, very lively pub with a really good atmosphere, just like pubs used to be before the pandemic. Really enjoyed the evening, food was terrific too.

What an absolute hidden gem! I cannot recommend this pub enough. The lamb shank roast dinner was absolutely amazing. It fell off the bone! We stayed until late because Kelly the manager and Chole our waitress absolutely made our night. The cocktails, service and atmosphere were 5 * and I would give them 100* review if I could x

Lovely pub with some really nice beers

Great food and amazing service from our waitress who was fantastic with my daughter's and wife's allergy requests. The only one negative and it's not the pubs fault is that people get on holding the front door open and it let in a ❄️ draught.

This is a nice cosy pub with great staff, food and drink. Homemade steak pie was excellent!

We visited this pub on the 09/11/2024, 3 adults and 2 dogs. Food was exceptional, husband had the pie he was happy as it was a proper pie, not a filling with a puff pastry topping. The place really catered for dogs even had biscuits on hand, roaring fire we will definitely be visiting again.

Stopped in at this pub on a weekend break away, on a cold November evening it had a warm open fire, rustic charm and possibly the best home made steak and stilton pie myself and my girlfriend have eaten in a restaurant. A healthy portion size for anyone. Staff were friendly, atmosphere was homely. Coming back to the Peak District for this pie after another long days hike.

Decided tea out was overdue, food was good, but Absolutely disgusted at the way a young waitress was treated by a senior member of staff! Embarrassing her in front of a full pub of customers and other staff members! Her whole attitude towards said young girl was totally unnecessary, poor little love looked as though she was about to burst into tears! Snapping and telling her to go home. That sort of stuff shouldn't be done in front of a pub full of paying customers not good for reputation. Do hope the young girl is ok and isn't too distraught.

We ate at this pub a couple of times while we were on holiday in Buxton. The food was so delicious - would particularly recommend the five bean chilli. The portions were huge! The staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Had a lovely seating position next to the well tendered log fire, lovely drinks, friendly staff & fantastic food. The pie of the day gets my recommendation. Dog friendly pub with water & treats from the staff. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Going to organise a meeting with the boss here, he wants to see me. I think he wants to do a comedian night for him.

Food was lovely but despite booking five days previously we were put in an empty room at the back of the pub next to the kitchen and toilets. Constant stream of people going past our table to and from the bathrooms and staff going in and put of the kitchen I do not agree that my review was "mean spirited" I have eaten here several times and really enjoyed my visits and food. You have said the room we were sat in was full before and during our visit. Obviously I can't comment about before but when we arrived ours was the only table with a reserved sign on it and although the room did fill up it was people who were only drinking or presumably had not made a reservation. My impression was that this room was for late/non bookings and drinks which the reason I was disappointed. My complaint was not about your pub, which is lovely, but the room at the back of the pub which lacked atmosphere, and didn't even feel like we were in The Sun Inn.

We had dinner at this lovely pub on Saturday early evening, very glad we booked as it was very busy, a good sign! We arrived a bit early so had a drink at the bar until our table was ready. Really impressed by the wine choice, and price! The food was great too, plentiful and very good. Too full to try a dessert, but they looked great too. It was very welcoming and the staff were friendly and attentive. Lots of choice for all dietary requirements.

Went on a Thursday which was pie night. OMG pies were superb. Good selection of ales, service first class.

My wife and I visited here this evening and I must say what and absolutely lovely pub , the food was excellent as was the drinks , the service was wonderful, the staff are really really friendly and lovey nothing was to much trouble to them and the open fire was amazing. It is also very reasonably priced and most importantly to us was that it’s very dog friendly. Most definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

We received a very friendly welcome and were shown to our table. It was quite busy which is nice to see. Great choice of food available and there is something for everyone. Loved that some meals are also available in smaller plate options as most places don't offer this. We weren't waiting long for our food to say how busy they were. Everything was lovely!! Will definitely be back the next time we're over.

My wife and I ate here a couple of weeks ago one very rainy evening! We were lucky to find the only available table in the snug. We felt like VIPs in out private room and serving hatch! The young lad with the glasses who served us was very friendly and attentive. Food and drink were great. We'll definitely call in nex time we're in Buxton

Stayed for a couple of beers. Excellent service and good range of drinks. Whilst we didn't eat, the food coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic.

A very popular venue as the place was packed to the rafters. Not surprising considering the excellent beers and range of food available. Expecting a long wait considering how full the venue was, but no, food was served very quickly indeed. Food and service was excellent, no complaints whatsoever.

Comfortable traditional pub vibe. Lots of smaller rooms rather than one aircraft hanger make for a Comfortable experience. Good service. Food is OK for vegetarians though perhaps a little limited, but good with generous portions

We recently visited this pub after a long walk with my dog. The staff were not only polite but also very attentive. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful gesture of the waitress who brought my dog a bowl of fresh water. Both my partner and I ordered the large hunter’s chicken. It was absolutely delicious and very filling—a perfect choice after a tiring walk! Although the lighting was a bit dim where we were seated, the overall atmosphere of the pub was quite pleasant and cozy. All in all, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this pub to anyone looking for a place to enjoy good food in a friendly environment.

We booked the snug room for our date night, which was a gorgeous private room. The staff were really friendly, helpful and attentive. We had the sharing chicken and chorizo pie which was beautiful, lots of nice big chunks of chicken, perfect pastry and lovely chunky chips. The general atmosphere in the pub was fab, happy and friendly, a mix of diners and drinkers. Prices of the food and drinks were very reasonable. Thank you to all the staff for making it a brilliant evening. We will definitely be returning.

Our annual trip to Buxton (football). Truly excellent meal, we both had the fishcakes which were very tasty - crispy on the outside but moist inside. Excellent prompt and friendly service. Glad we reserved a table as people were being turned away as so many people were eating - always a good sign!

I met a friend for Sunday lunch in Buxton. The Old Sun Inn was a traditional style pub with a lovely beer garden to enjoy the sunshine outside. We had a warm welcome, very attentive staff, who took orders and provided great service. We both enjoyed a Sunday lunch of delicious, hot food. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

While the service was excellent and could not be faulted by any of the great, hospitable staff that served us, the food we ordered was not to our taste, and unfortunately, we really only went in because we were hungry. Perhaps the kitchen was having an off day on our dishes, or maybe it was just our dishes on the menu because our daughters dish was actually really tasty. We really liked the children's garlic bread, which was a sour dough garlic bread. Very nice indeed! If I had the option of ordering again, I would not choose the rib eye steak. No hard feelings.

Met up with family here today for lunch, we were 5 in total. We all had a Sunday roast, 4 beef and 1 turkey. It was delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We also enjoyed lovely puddings. Would highly recommend.

Visit with family fot Thursday 1st for meal and drinks ( 6 of us) pre booked. Meals were okay but wrong food delivered which resulted in people having to wait while others had finished. What really let the experience down was service - which was to be generous poor !! On top of the food issue- getting drinks was difficult and slow- clearing food plates and tables was not automatic or prompt & when requested- staff were almost rude in their response. When we arrived noticed that A board outside stated that there was a quiz on the last Thursday of the month - we went on the 1st- and quiz on !! There are better places to eat nearby: Lubens Santigoes St Moritz Cheshire Cheese Bailys

Went expecting good things as 8th on TA in Buxton. In summary however, would describe as ok meal in nice beer garden, and old style Pub. If you like hearty portions and traditional pub food, then you’ll probably like it, but for us, the food was good but versus other options in the area, there are better options very nearby.

Had a couple of meals in here during our stay in Buxton this week and have been here a few times in the past, thank you all for providing some fantastic food yet again.
