Disappointed that the dining area is crammed with tables, so you can’t have a comfortable conversation without other tables hearing. Food was ok but nothing special and a bit pricey but what isn’t these days. Subsequently went to the Little Mill Inn pub at Rowarth, less than 5 minutes away and the food was excellent, less expensive and its dog friendly too.

Just got back home after spending two lovely nights at this charming inn. We had a superior room which was located at the back of the hotel. Very quiet. The room was kept very clean as was the bathroom. The bed was lovely and comfortable. There was also a good selection of teas and coffee with fresh milk. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was excellent.Although very busy on our first night, we didn’t have to wait very long Breakfasts equally as good with plenty of choice. The staff are a credit to this inn. Very friendly and helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We decided last minute to visit on the off chance of getting a table as we hadn't booked in advance, when we arrived, all the tables were reserved but the waitress managed to find us a table on the understanding we only had it for 90 minutes. The menu was excellent with plenty to choose from, and there were also about 6 extra optio s on the specials menu. We ordered our food and it arrived after just 15 minutes, piping hot and huge portions of the highest quality. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Over the past few months the Pack Horse has really upped its game and we will certainly be returning.

We were recommended here by a friend and we were disappointed. Very small eating area, the tables were so close we couldn't hear ourselves talk for the foursome on the next table, dogs barking and trying to fight in the adjacent room. We ordered the fish finger sandwich, which was literally four findus type fish fingers on a breadcake with a little salad. Been to a similar establishment where the fish finger sandwich was actually battered fish strips on a large Ciabatta type roll with a good salad and french fries for a similar price. On a plus point the staff were very friendly and efficient and good local beers

We came here as a last minute decision as we decided to do a hike at kinder scout and this accommodation was 10 mins away. The rooms are lovely and come with everything you need hairdryer, shampoo, tea and coffee and even milk. WiFi code is provided and the room is nice and spacious too. We had our evening meal here and the food was amazing! Too good, we had to leave some as we were so full. Breakfast was included and had lots of choice and was also great. Staff go out of their way to help you as much as they can. Would recommend to anyone (especially those wanting to hike nearby!)

We recently visited for the first time, having read good reviews. We were 2 couples celebrating a family birthday. The menu was extensive and the food we chose, steak and ale pies, lamb shank and halloumi wrap was plentiful and delicious. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband and myself had also booked in overnight. Our room on the first floor was cosy with everything needed for an overnight stay. Breakfast next morning was delicious too with plenty of choice and fresh, locally sourced bacon and sausages. We will definitely be having a return visit.

My partner and I stopped by here for a spot of lunch after a long walk. If we hadn’t have already paid a ridiculous amount of money for our meals, we would have walked straight out. Card machine wasn’t working which is fine, these things happen. We paid through PayPal instead. As soon as we sat down, we noticed how sticky the tables were, and the dust collected around all ornaments. Floors looked like they hadn’t been swept for weeks. Just over £35 for 2 burgers and drinks, and the food was appealing. Burgers were bone dry and over cooked and chips were soggy and cold. Neither of us ate much, and got out as quickly as we could. Would never return. However the staff were friendly.

Great prices, service & love the place. My only criticism is that as much as the waitresses were working so hard to keep everything very clean, I would have felt better if they were wearing a visor when coming over to the tables when taking orders and serving, as they have to get quite close to the customers. Can't really find too many faults with this place after a 3 night stay. It's just out of town on main road, but the road itself is not too busy (in February) so it's pretty quiet. It's a fairly small, very friendly, pud/hotel and serves up very decent food. Breakfasts and one evening meal sampled, and everything was good. But it also has enough atmosphere to just use as a pub for a drink. Staff always helpful, attentive and polite.

Only one girl taking drink and food orders so had quite a wait to place order. My husband is a massive pie fan so was looking forward to his steak pie. When it came I could see the disappointment on his face. It was not a very big portion. For £10.95 there was alot of gravy and not very much meat, the pastry was hard too. I had a better experience, my gammon was good £12.95 and so were my onions rings £2.95 my eggs were also lovely and runny. We won't be visiting again as the drive was not worth the meal at the end.

Following a very enjoyable visit to the New Mills Millenium walk we tried to find a place to eat in town but only one pub was offering a very basic menu. Based on trip advisor we went to the Pack Horse Inn to find a lovely building with great views and a comfortable and well decorated interior. The welcome we received was great and service was fist class. Unfortunatley although the menu was varied the food was distinctly avaerage. The prawn curry was watery and needed thickening the halibut steak itself was lovely but the vegetables were overcooked and there were far too many potatoes on the plate. A redeeming factor was the excellent beer.

We live out of the area and were meeting some friends for a party so came across The Pack Horse Inn on-line. We were not disappointed. First, there's a large car park, we checked in at the bar and were shown to our room which was in an old stable block attached to the pub. The room and en-suite (with toiletries) were perfect, warm, clean, a huge bed and everything you need and more from a B&B room, even a bowl of fruit. We went through to the bar and Hubby was impressed by the selection of draught beers and tried several of them. After meeting our friends in the evening, we returned to the bar but I was feeling so cold, so I asked if I could have a hot chocolate and they made a delicious one. Time for bed and the bed was so comfy, extra pillows in the wardrobe and a blanket too should they be needed. We woke feeling refreshed and ready for the drive home after breakfast.Breakfast is served in the dining room of the pub. On the sideboard are cereals, fruit salad and fruit juice, which you help yourself to. A lovely member of staff took our order for a full cooked breakfast and it was absolutely perfect. I don't recall the last time I had friend bread but it was just how I remember it to be and the sausage and bacon were fabulous.I totally enjoyed our night at The Pack Horse Inn and hope to return again to experience dinner there as our friends told us that is very good too, so I give The Pack Horse a big fat five out of five. Basic food and really expensive for what it is, nothing much to write home about, accompaniments to mains lacking or none existent. Visit the Pack Horse at least once a month and the quality of the food and service is always outstanding. Lovely pub either in summer with a great beer garden or in winter with log fires.

Dropped in at lunchtime for a meal. Really friendly welcome and quite an extensive menu. The food was very nicely cooked and the portions were just right. It was quite busy but service was not slow. It’s not fast food though so don’t expect immediate service.

What a place to finish the year! We had an excellent dinner at the Pack Horse Inn on New Year's Eve. Thank you for the super friendly owners for their hospitality!

The pub had a very welcoming feel and the staff were all lovely. The food was really nice with lots of good options on the menu and specials and the prices seemed fair. There was also plenty of parking available, overall would recommend.

The palace was spotless, a high shine on all the tables and brass. A warm welcome, 3 x hand pulled ales, ample parking and it was easy to order our food.

An excellent local pub with a good selection of drinks and a very varied menu all at reasonable prices. Just the place to drop into after a brisk winter walk.

We arrived at this pub after a long walk in need of warmth and refreshment. Both were provided in ample quantities. There is at least one real fire, and the selection of real ales is excellent. The food is good quality; some traditional meals and some more exotic. Portion sizes good. Plus a big bonus for me - IT'S DOG FREE!! So I don't have to worry about putting my hands on a seat where some dog's bottom has been.

We had two meals here both of which were very good but the first night when I had chicken stuffed with goats cheese. It was delicious but I had to leave about half as the portion was so generous. The second night I had a filled baked potato which was just right

Returned again for another family meal, all staff helpful and friendly as always. Disappointed that the changes to the menu (probably for the first time in a decade) appear to be to remove the delicious chicken in stilton and leek sauce and the chicken stuffed with black pudding and replace them with a basic chicken with penne pasta. I feel the menu now lack a hearty chicken dish, very disappointing.

We were staying at a farm roughly 1 1/2 miles from the Pack Horse Inn but it became our pub of choice and not because of the arduous walk there and back! The staff were absolutely superb, nothing seemed to be any problem. The bar side was comfortable. The restaurant side was relaxing. The food was delicious. The garden was lovely. We felt a totally pleasurable atmosphere on every visit. The beers were stupendous.

We stayed for a weekend. Room 5 was very comfortable and quiet. We ate both evenings in the restaurant. It was lovely to eat fresh food all homemade as opposed to processed freezer food often served in pubs. Staff were friendly and very professional. Vegetarian choice was good and breakfast had good options. We would like to thank all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable

set on a quiet and scenic road not far from the centre of hope, you'll be met by friendly staff and i have to admit my black pudding in chicken, new potatoes, cabbage and sauce melted, throw in a decent choice of starters and desserts not to mention a good choice of alcoholic beverages and your in for a nice dining experience.

I booked a table for 5 people for 16th Dec at 12.15. We all arrived early and the three who were eating ordered before 12.15. Two were just having coffee. Despite the pub being quiet we did not get our meals until 5 past 1. Other people were being served who came in after us. I asked a staff member how long the food would be and she came back with the answer not long. I said how long is not long and she said about 5 minutes. It was another good ten minutes before the food arrived. The festive roast looked very nice but the pie and the lamb kebabs ( minus the skewer as they didn't have any) were not very good-- Tough and nearly cold lamb and a dry looking pie. An experience not to be repeated.
