Having read the reviews before we visited we had hoped for more. The panini was not good and the toasted sandwiches just that with no garnishes. Sadly, the biggest turn off was the lady cooking the food had her hair loose and not adhering to food safety requirements. Very offputting.

I visited creates with a fellow coeliac friend for afternoon tea. The owner was very welcoming, reassured us that he was coeliac too so everything we were about to eat and drink was 100% safe, with everything being prepared in a separate part of the kitchen. I can’t wait to return to try the Sunday roast lunch very soon. Thank you so much for an amazing experience, highly recommend.

Very, very dry baguette, didn't seem fresh at all. So disappointing. Not much filling either. Won't be returning.

I ordered the meze from the vegan menu. This is my first choice at Portivo. The meze arrived without homous pomegranate seeds and Persian grains The greenery was just shredded cabbage. The server got me some homous and pomegranate seeds when I told her. This is the second time this has happened. How can they serve this without half the ingredients? No homous no seeds or grains. The first time I was given a credit note but I felt too embarrassed to complain a second time. However. I will not be returning to Estero. It's a rip off ..

Popped in a couple of times during our weekend visit to Monmouth. Nice friendly pub. Clean. Would definitely use again.

My wife and I stayed here last weekend for a night while in Monmouth for an event. I can't say anything derogatory as there isn't really anything, but it wasn't amazing either. The building is obviously very old and so things like hallways, stairs, landings and upper floors are all quite narrow, quite steep and far from level. Our room was pleasant enough but lighting was very dim. The bed was comfortable and we both slept well but the bathroom was small and swinging a cat around by the tail would have been a bit of a task. If you're taller than 5'10" then standing upright in the bath for a shower might also be a bit of a feat. Overall, once you're out of the bar area it does feel long overdue for a bit of a remodel. We didn't have food, I think the staff mentioned the kitchen was closed for some reason but we intended to go out for food in any case so that's hardly a hardship I need to complain about. The bar is quite pleasant and was very busy when we arrived. I don't think drinks were hideously expensive - just the standard expensive that drinks are these days. The IPA was too cold though, it's not a beer that needs to be lager chilled, and its taste suffers when its overly chilled, I do hate it when establishments think ale needs to be cold enough to give you brain freeze. Location is spot on, though, and you're bang in the middle of Monmouth and within staggering distance of anything worth doing. The only caveat to this is that The Punch House doesn't have its own car park, although there is a council controlled car park close by just a few minutes walk away. Overall it was perfectly adequate for the purpose we needed it but nothing makes me feel like coming back again.

Fitted us in for a fantastic Christmas meal. Food was outstanding and the staff were unbelievably friendly. This place has been through a few owners over the last few years but I hope and think the right people are in there now and I hope they make a success of it. Good luck and we will be back to support you

This is a wonderful place, especially for Senior Citizens so I cannot understand any bad reviews. The ladies who serve are lovely and the delicious food always arrives promptly, even when it's busy. Everywhere is very clean, especially the toilets. We look forward to our fish and chips when we visit Monmouth which is normally every six weeks.

I recommend this place to colleagues following a site visit nearby, having been previously for drinks. When we arrived at 11.30 there were several tables reserved, so the waitress showed me to a table. At this point there was only 1 other person in the cafe. We ordered breakfast comprising of 2 full English, 2 eggs Benedict and a sausage and mushroom sandwich, together with hot drinks. The drinks arrived after about 10 minutes and then we waited. The other reserved tables also started to fill, and these took priority over everything else. After 30 minutes I asked how much longer and the waitress advised ‘not too long’, so we ordered another round of teas and coffee. Still no sign of the food, but the other tables were being served. Eventually at 12.40 ( 1 hour 10 minutes later) out came breakfast. Mine was a bacon sandwich- which I didn’t order and the others all just warm . The miserable lady said I could have the bacon sandwich FOC which I declined. If I wanted a bacon sandwich I would have ordered one. I had no time to wait for my sandwich to be cooked so left without eating. The others eat their Luke warm dishes. We were all stunned that no apology was given , apparently we should have been advised of the hour wait. Naturally had this happened we would have gone elsewhere. In other words our own fault My recommendation is to avoid this place - I also recommend the miserable woman learns how to look after her customers by simply saying “sorry that the wait is longer than expected, please have a refill on your drinks . The waitress at the front desk however was very nice, although she failed to tell us about the delay.
