Scrumptious in Monmouthshire

Having read the reviews before we visited we had hoped for more. The panini was not good and the toasted sandwiches just that with no garnishes. Sadly, the biggest turn off was the lady cooking the food had her hair loose and not adhering to food safety requirements. Very offputting.

Nice little place for lunch, and everything was made to order. No garnish or extras on your place with baguettes or panini orders which would have added to the lunch.

I am a middle aged man. I usually hate going for coffee. Many arguments have occured in the past, because my wife loves to have coffee and cake, or lunch, out; where as I am quite happy to get on home. Scrumptious has changed this. When my wife suggests popping out for coffee now, I am delighted. They have a really tasty selection of foods. There falafal is spiced and lovely. The welsh rarebit is made with strong cheddar, and just the right amount of mustard. But the cakes! oh my god. I always love the cake. When I go back, she has a different cake on; so the lemon drizzle; mince tart; cherry tart; cherry bakewall flapjack; carrot cake; I had the week before is no longer available. For several minutes I am bitterly dissapointed. Then Rachel brings out this week's cake and it is my new favourite. We have also got them to bake several celebration cakes - which have been amazing. To have converted me to enjoying going out for coffee is truly miraculous!

Lovely little cafe, friendly service, happy to have dogs. Delious home cooked treats to eat in or take awayand excellent chocolate shop too.

Scrumptious catered my son's christening. We asked for a finger buffet for 50. We had a vast selection of sandwiches (the Coronation chicken and the brie and Cranberry were particularly delicious) , homemade quiche, sausage/ cheese and onion rolls, chocolate dipped strawberries and four types of cake (chocolate orange brownies, apple crumble blondies, bakewell Flapjack and coffee and walnut cake) , all delivered to the venue on lidded platters ready to serve. Nothing was too much trouble and Rachel even did a seperate plate for my gluten free guests, and a tray of finger sandwiches and crudités for the children. The food was fresh, plentiful and delicious and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended! Won't hesitate to use again for our son's birthday next year.

We stopped for a toastie and they were delicious 😋. Hot and packed full of filling. Nice coffee too.

Rachel and the team stepped into the breach when our event caterers got taken out by the world's second most dreaded C word 3 days before our wedding. And they did an amazing job feeding 100 people in just a few days, the food was delicious the service was professional and the price was very reasonable. I cannot recommend them enough! Stop looking you have found your caterers!

Fabulous - stopped for a quick hot panini and managed to enjoy the sunshine outside. Friendly staff, lovely and clean and the food was so fresh and nicely presented.

I had a Cheese, tomato, and onion toastie and it is the best toastie I've ever had. Often veggie food is disappointing and just ticks the box but this was clearly made with love. I'll be going there regularly now I've discovered this gem.

Situated in a court yard. We wanted a light lunch. Indoor and outdoor seating. Small menu but youd find something which included panini, sandwiches, toastie, jacket potatoes

This cafe serves truely scumptious food and delicious cakes. It is set just off the main shopping street which allows a calm, quiet atmosphere in which to indulge in great food.

Excellent value for money and very friendly staff. Enjoyed lunch here and will come back soon when I am in Monmouth again.

Light lunch for us three and luckily they had a table - the place was stacked with customers. Nice range of sandwiches and panini type bites, all freshly prepared, good service. If we were there again we'd go back.

A simple breakfast (sausage and egg sandwich for me), tea coffee etc, all executed really well. Nice pleasant staff. A lovely place to sit and contemplate the day.

Staying at the kings head so popped round here for morning coffee and sandwiches ...cappuccinos were delish...forgot what a good one tastes like and service with a smile. A super little courtyard too. Worth visiting Monmouth just for this.

I went there with my wife as she told me about the place a few months back and it didn’t disappoint. Love the menu and your waffles are excellent, a must visit if you’re in Monmouth

Sitting in Scrumptious now having enjoyed a toastie and a brownie- delicious all round, only us here so if you want a quiet lunch on a Tuesday pop in, lovely staff, completely understand how we all like our own tea our own way! It’s a lovely little cafe, to be visited often.

Stopped for coffee and tempted to the double chocolate brownie...scrumptious. Went back for lunch, not disappointed , thank you Rachel & Jane

We love this little place. The choice of food for lunch is excellent and the service without fault. The portion sizes are generous and the staff super friendly. Its never a problem if you want to change one of the menu choices to suit your needs. My husband loves the pot of tea here as they use tea pigs .

Stopped for lunch and was amazed by the choice! Went slightly off menu but they were more than happy to make the order and it tasted really good. Great gluten free choice which is usually hard to find for lunch items. Cakes were nice too.

Great for lunch with gluten free options including waffles. Some space to sit in with tables outside. Plenty of panini options including veg/vegan and gluten free. Did me a leek and potato soup. Public toilets round the corner.

We followed the sign down the alley, and we glad to discover this very nice sandwich shop. A bacon baguette for breakfast was just the thing while we lingered over our coffee. I though the service was very pleasant and were pleased to find the place.

My husband & I always make a bee line for this café when we are in Monmouth, we visited here in November & were extremely disappointed. I think it must have new owners as the food was not up to it's usual standard. The selection of foods had almost halved & didn't look or taste as nice as previously, needless to say we won't be visiting there again.

I was looking to try somewhere new and decided on here. I had the meat feast and my husband had a cheese and ham toastie. The meat feast was stuffed and the mozzarella was gooey and stretchy. The cheese and ham was on good bread and generous as well

Went here twice for breakfast on our holiday, me, my partner and our 5 year old daughter. We had breakfast bagettes that were made with lovely fresh bread and great tasting bacon and eggs. There is limited seating inside but it’s clean and bright. Very reasonable prices and fast service. Would definitely recommend it!

Friendly welcoming couple, relaxed atmosphere with great food, more importantly THE MOST AMAZING BROWNIES. honestly felt like I had gone to heaven when tucking into their home made snickers brownie. Bargin too, naturally purchased every brownie they had! 🤗🤗

Went here as we fancied a crepe for lunch however they weren’t making them so we had a toasted sandwich. This was served quickly but my cheese and tomato one was greasy and lacked taste whilst my partner’s Brie and cranberry was average.

The best sandwich I have ever had. Wonderfully fresh, fantastic service. Very impressed. Will definitely visit again

Visited this lovely cafe just of the Main Street of Monmouth yesterday. Beautiful sunny day so sat outside. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a pulled pork and apple sandwich and a tuna mayo sandwich with a couple of Earl Grey teas. The Teas provided were in lovely infuser bags by Teapig so really good quality and the sandwiches came, beautifully presented. The bread was fresh and the fillings really tasty. 5 stars for this hidden gem. Thank you

Customer service is 5 star, I asked for a delivery which they happily accommodated. Food was warm and fresh. Something was accidentally left from the order and with no fuss they came straight back and delivered missing item. Great service guys, will definitely use again

Friendly staff and great, reasonably priced food. Very good freshly cooked pizza for under £5 for a whole pizza.

My wife and I with our dog are in the Wye Valley for a couple of nights. We found this fabulous cafe while looking around Monmouth (which we like very much). We were there for a late lunch and were going to sit outside with the dog but were invited inside where it was warmer. The menu choice is very good and the wholesome food prepared in view. It was steadily busy which was not surprising as prices were very reasonable. There was even a jar of dog biscuits on the counter. I noted that the staff only fussed our dog just before closing time when the shop was empty, and then washed their hands immediately after. A lovely experience that, if we are here again, will repeat. Thank you.

Made us welcome and even let us sit in with our dog on a very cold wet afternoon. Super food and lovely coffee.

Just arrived in Monmouth and parked in Glendower Street car park after a journey up from Hampshire. I was gasping for a coffee and MJ's caught my eye as I waled past it on my way to the town square.

We just stumbled across this whilst wandering around Monmouth today and were glad that we did. Good coffees and toasted sandwiches and really cheerful staff - which always helps. Were lucky enough to dodge the rain showers and sit outside.

Visited this place last week having read the reviews on trip advisor. We weren't disappointed! The staff were excellent, the food was excellent also. The only very trivial downside was the use of plastic knives and forks which were very flimsy! On chatting to the owner after our meal he informed us that they were biodegradable so we forgave him! Ha ha! A very pleasant experience, would highly recommend, a little gem in a pleasant little courtyard at the top end of town.

Met up with a friend recently for a quick bite and coffee. Dropped into MJ’s and had a great baguette, chilli chicken, made a real mess of eating it! Great coffee, staff are all smiles. My friend was equally happy and scoffed the lot (made more of a mess than me).

Clean, great service and excellent value. Salads are amazing. Such friendly service. Everything looks fresh great coffee too!

Firstly, and most importantly, the host. Jeff the owner could not have been friendlier or kinder. He advised us on the food and gave us straws for our drinks to remember childhood!

We love MJs. Friendly, welcoming staff, great food and outdoor seats in the sun. We go to MJs regularly and can recommend the crepes (daughter 1) and freshly baked pizzas (daughter 2). Probably the best coronation chicken that I have ever had, particularly good in an oven-baked jacket potato. We can't recommend highly enough!

Dropped in as I was passing from the big car park next to MJ's, what a fantastic place, nice food, lovely staff, a new venture I heard the owner saying, I was impressed, keep going super high standards, better than most in Monmouth.

We just had a lunch delivery at work for 8 people, the food was delicious and piping hot. All freshly made, and the best coronation chicken ever!

Visited for lunch back with my friend and her little boy. All of us had delicious toasties. Everything was fresh and made to order. The seating is outside but there are blankets to keep you warm. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Felt like everyone wanted to be there. Great value aswell.

It's difficult to beat a bacon sarny with brown sauce on fresh granary bread and MJ's does it to perfection !

What an absolute asset to our already beautiful town. This hidden treasure is the best cafe/takeaway i've had the pleasure in visiting for a long time. Everything they serve is fresh, from their coffee and a bacon buttie, to smoothies, AMAZING crepes, handmade pizzas, baguettes, salad bowls, jacket potatoes, hotdogs, cakes+++ and FIRST CLASS customer service. I've visited several times and always been greeted with a genuine welcome, and never been disappointed with my purchase.This place is a must for anyone visiting or living local.

My husband & I came across this lovely eatery last week on a trip to Monmouth. It’s nestled in a small courtyard offering limited seating inside & tables outside. We ordered tuna & ham sandwiches with salad, a drink & a packet of crisps. Have to say the staff were very friendly & accommodating, the shop itself was spotlessly clean & had a huge variety of food on offer. The food was very cheap compared to food we have eaten in other places. The pancakes looked delicious & we ended up ordering some after or sandwiches. All in all a great experience will definitely visit again when in the area. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Situated just behind the Shire Hall at the top of the high street, MJs hits the spot for a healthy and freshly made lunch or if you just fancy a quick tea or coffee. I can strongly recommend sampling one of their delicious crepes either Sweet or Savoury! I tried the Merry Berry which needless to say I had to defend from my wife's prying fork! Great value and with a good selection of gluten free should you require it.

This is the place in Monmouth to get great, fresh food to eat in or take away. It's cosy inside but the lovely staff will welcome you and on a nice day, sitting outside in such a charming little courtyard is perfect. Affordable, quality (5 star food hygiene rating).

Wow just wow. Fresh ingredients, put together to make magic for your tongue. The pizzas are exceptional, the salad boxes are fresh and tasty and the Monmouthshire breakfast Crepe is out of this world!

Great people and great food. We has a crepe of these guys at the Monmouth music festival and it was fantastic. My wife has been to the cafe in the town too and had received similar great service. Good work

Went in today and had an lovely maple bacon crepe! They were very concerned about the maple dripping as I was taking it away but they put a cone in the bottom which worked a charm! Lovely and considerate, would highly recommend!!

Great freshly made/baked food, something new each day and great quality ingredients too. Lovely staff and owners. I go every day for my lunch now!

Stopped in today and ordered a baguette and toastie, with coffee. Service was good and food was brought out quickly. Husband says baguette was very good and my tuna melt toastie was very full (too much for me so husband ate other half!) but very tasty. Coffee was served in a mug and was also very nice. Would definitely come back, prices good, service and food excellent!

Popped in one Saturday morning. Children had a crepe each, husband and I had a smoothie. Crepes are delicious, children loved them. Our smoothies were great! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great choice of heathy foods and drinks too. Good value for money. Will be back!!

Visited this wonderful little place today. Very Friendly welcome, try before you buy with freshly made smoothies which was great. Great selection of bottled drinks and a wonderful selection of pizzas, crepes, sandwiches and baguettes. My daughter had a Nutella crepe & a freshly made smoothie. Amazing value for money, highly recommend & we looking forward to our next visit. This is just what Monmouth needs!!
