From the 11th Century castle to the pub in Grosmont is just a few steps, but if you can forget the 21st Century you're in another dimension. It's a fine olde traditional public house, usually serving meals, but not on the evening we showed up as there were preparations for a wedding. We settled for a round of beers and some snacks. It was all good! We also observed that there are music evenings and various instruments hang on the walls. Not to mention the posters: The Rolling Stones in Abergavenny; a blues festival with Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull in Grosmont in May 1969, etc. Some of the people at the bar - including us - looked as if we'd been left behind in the 1970s and were glad to be back. We downed the drinks and time slipped away.

Sunday lunch with friends. Lovely old inn with character in the middle of a pretty village. Prior to Covid we visited on numerous occasions, especially on ‘specials’ nights and always had a good time with good food. We hadn’t however visited since then or since the current owner took over but were encouraged to do so by the positive reviews, even though we noted that the menu had changed quite considerably and prices increased. Bearing all this in mind, whilst the pub itself, service and drinks remained excellent, we were a bit disappointed by the quality of the food presented. One of the roast beefs was tough, most of the food was warm but not hot, the roast potatoes were all uniform in size/shape and may have been frozen, the crackling/belly pork piece with the pork loin was soft and inedible and portion sizes were only average. Overall we felt value for money was below average and left a but underwhelmed. We will probably return for a drink or snack but unlikely for a full meal.

Thank you Chloe, Jim, Margie and all the team for always providing such fabulous food, an excellent selection of drinks, a brilliant atmosphere and live music is never too far away! We recently had a Sunday roast for 10 of us, and the lunch was delicious, with all the trimmings! Service as always was brilliant! My husband and I also got married in the village this summer and the pub were so welcoming to our guests who headed to the pub on their arrival! The pub hosted us for a Roast dinner but this time around 30 of us attended, again everyone was so impressed by the lunch! We also had live music in the afternoon which was fab! I cannot recommend the Angel highly enough. The food and service is absolutely superb. My partner and I had dinner cooked by Jim the chef, the very best pub burger ever. My partner had Ginger salmon dish which she also said was superb, the accompanying salad beautifully fresh. Our best pub food by a country mile. Great selection of real ale, recommend the Butty Bach. Also joined in with some local musicians for a jam. Guitar selection in the pub, if you’re up for it. Lovely log fire. The most welcoming pub you could wish for. Lovely meal at The Angel - the twice-baked cheese soufflé was perfection; yummy Spanish seafood stew too. Others had the chicken liver parfait, beef burger, and veggie pasta (which looked amazing, and plenty of it), all really good. Sadly no room for the puds except one sneaky ice-cream. A lovely country village pub, most certainly the hub of the Grosmont community. It was a beautiful day so we sat out the beer garden with our Gwynt y Draig cider and a couple of bags of crisps. There was a mix of locals and families with children of all ages and dogs. A really vibrant but chilled atmosphere. The menu looked incredible and when we return, we will participate in a good meal. Stopped here for supper last week while staying nearby. The village itself is stunning and worth a pre-dinner wander. The service was impeccable, attentive and timely without being overbearing. Our dog was taken care of just as well as we were, with water and a biscuit promptly arriving alongside our drinks! Lovely pub. Been numerous times over the years. Good selection of beers and real ales. Location great. Sometimes hard to actually get to the bar though due to the 'locals' standing at and leaning on it. Just wanted to share what a great place The Angle Inn is at Grosmont. Chole and Jim are such welcoming hosts, and have steared the Angle in a really positive direction. As an occasional visitor and usually on my own, I'm facinated by the wonderful characters that are the regualrs, and I've never felt uncomfortable. They've done a great job in insuring that despite having the character and warmth of an old Welsh Inn, the modern traveler never feels out of place .The selection of gins, wine and beer is expansive and very well priced, and though I haven't eaten there for a while, over-hearing other customers, the quality is 'superb'. It's certainly at the heart of the community, and has also taken mine. Can't wait to come back soon. Keep up the good work. Diolch yn fawr. Alex

Arrived in the area after a two hour drive towing a caravan and was advised that The Angel was the place to eat. We arrived at 13:35 and sat at a table in the rear garden where we waited for some attention. Ten minutes later, we were handed a drinks menu and obligatory Track & Trace forms. Twentyfive minutes later and after my wife had been into the pub to seek a member of staff, we decided that customers aren't important to this pub and left. On our way to the car, we noticed the only member of serving staff talking to someone on the pavement outside the pub, who were obviously more important than us. If any reader wants to visit a decent pub, The Hunters Moon Inn is only 4.6 miles away!
