Lovely cafe with a wonderful quiet garden. Coffee is OK. Out of a dozen cakes available there wasn’t one GF option so that was disappointing, and unusual these days

We always go by google reviews whilst looking for places in areas that we visit. Visited the fig tree based on reviews and were not disappointed. The coffee was fantastic and we were blown away by the cakes, so much so that we cant wait to go back and work our way through them. Lovely passionate owners. Lovely visit. 5/5.

Fantastic coffee and the best homemade cakes around! I wish they were open more days.

Delightful little place. Delicious coffees and teas served in pretty china cups and mugs. The owners make the baked goods, and they are amazing! (both the owners and the cakes). I had the chocolate ginger cake. A tang of ginger, with plenty of cocoa flavour, not too sweet, plenty of icing. I can't wait to try some of the other items, the offerings vary weekly. In the summer there is a lovely garden in which to sit out and enjoy your beverage.

Delicious home made cakes - I had the blueberry, almond and chocolate cake. And a lush flat white in a cute ceramic mug. Cosy on the inside with a beautiful garden too. A favourite in Abergavenny

Great find whilst traveling through the area. The coffee is delicious and the one vegan cake option (biscoff and banana cake) was very good. The garden at the back is a hidden gem, secret garden vibes. It'd be great if the additional charge for alternative milk could be lowered, please!!

Small but probably the best coffee place in the Abergavenny. The staff is super friendly, welcoming and banterous, the coffee is really good. There is also a fantastic garden in the back to enjoy the sunshine along with your beverage (and maybe a cake 🍰)

Another hidden gem. The courtyard where you sit at the back is a perfect spot for a coffee and one of their delicious cakes. We need more independent coffee houses like this!

We visited based on the positive reviews. When we visited seating was outside only in the garden, which is lovely.We were served by a lady who to be honest seemed disinterested. When I heard the cost of our order I have to say I was surprised at the expense and I'm used to London prices. £4 for a slice of cake in a cafe?! Personally I don't think the price is justified.

We walked into the shop and ordered our coffee and the staff failed to be welcoming to all 3 of us and when sat down the coffee and cake came quick however the coffee was cold. We finished our coffee and sat for 45 minutes and no staff walked out to take our empty mugs. The only thing positive I will have to say is they follow COVID rules well and I could spot no failures in that.

Great coffee and home made cake and brilliant choice of background music. Bit of a lottery when they are open though ... Lunches were not availble between lock downs but I'm hoping these are now back on as they are delish. It's always a lovely calm and understated atmosphere in the Fig Tree, that's what we like the most.

Genuinely good coffee, freshly roasted. Only topped by the selection of home baked cakes - if you've got a sweet tooth you'll love this little place. The owners are friendly and the place, whilst small, offers a chilled vibe. Probably the best coffee shop in Abergavenny and to make matters even better, the quietest!

Love cake? Then you have to try this place... Tucked away from the busy high street, the fig tree is a cosy cwtch, great coffee, delicious cakes with really friendly and helpful staff.

Die to the current situation you can only sit outside so we choose the rear garden. A pleasant spot but please mind your step! Limited menu at the moment only coffee and cake available. Nice cup of coffee.

Lovely selection of cake and loose tea, with something a bit different from the usual menu. (Coffee and Cardamom such a good combination!) Nice little garden to enjoy it in.

Proper customer services starts with knowing your own opening hours and not turning guests away with resting your legs on the table and in the most phlegmatic manner imaginable.

Tucked away to the point of almost being hidden is this wee gem of a cafe. Great coffee from roasters in Ross-on-Wye combined with some mouthwatering homemade cakes makes for a divine combination whilst sitting in their wildflower garden removed from the hustle and bustle of the town.

I called into The Fig Tree whilst passing through Abergavenny a few weeks ago. I visited because of the positive reviews and the fact it’s close to parking.Firstly, I did have a really tasty toasted sandwich but that was where the positives finished. Unfortunately, the coffee was acrid and had to be sent back, I was offered another but their machine needs descaling so I declined. We ordered a cake but could only really taste the fat and sugar rather than flavour so was left. I think the biggest issue here is the unpleasant attitude of the owners. The lady serving is not a great choice for front of house staff. She is unwelcoming and did not smile the whole time my husband and I were there, certainly no apologies for the coffee. At one point the chef (co-owner) came into the seating area and was very brusque with one of the waitresses. The waitresses were absolutely lovely and deserve better. Maybe we visited on a bad day because this place has good reviews but the negativity exuded by the owners was palpable, it was uncomfortable for us. I wouldn’t use the cafe again as there are plenty of other nice places to eat in this town. I’m sure the owner will say how shocked and surprised she is by this review but I’ve looked through the other comments and her attitude is a recurring theme.

As a previous worker of the Fig Tree I wanted to make customers aware of the situation surrounding the tips. The owner doesn’t believe in tips and therefore takes them for themselves and on most occasions pays staff through tip money.

We feel thrilled to have discovered this little gem in Abergavenny. The cakes are always different, unusual and delicious(they even do takeaways). The lunches are wholesome, tasty and good value. I love to take friends to this quirky little cafe and it never fails to impress.

just stopped for coffee's but wife was taken by a almond croissant and said it was about the best one ever had - managed to prize a small bit from her and id agree. only a tiny cafe, but well run and nice cakes and a small range of home made food.

I checked out the reviews for this tiny little coffee shop before my visit to Abergavenny and they were spot on. It is very veggie and vegan-friendly (although the server wasn't sure whether free-range eggs were used). The coffee was very nice and the toasted sandwich I had was AMAZING. It came with tortilla chips and a hefty portion of salad, which was both unusual and tasty - not the usual rubbish lettuce, cucumber and tomato. If I'm back in Abergavenny I'll be heading straight back to Fig Tree Espresso - yum!

Lovely coffee shop. Mugs are quaint! Had a delicious Stilton and mushroom toastie and was gorgeous! Took home a beetroot brownie so moist. So I returned again today and had coffee and toast. Has lovely seating outside (I dodged the showers today) then came back later and more coffee and an Espresso brownie. It hit the spot nice and brownie moist again.

Great selection of toasties, wraps, smoothies , coffees and teas. I enjoyed a chestnut mushroom toasty with blue cheese and walnut, sat outside in their beautiful garden. Lovely friendly staff, a real little gem.

I have been a regular here since it opened. The coffee is great and there are many unique flavours eg lavender latte. The cakes are superb and again there are an ever changing range of unique cakes with a regular vegan selection too. The garden is a lovely feature that helps make this place very special. The owners and staff are very nice. Put all this together and you have the best coffee shop bar none.

Tarts and toasties with imaginative filings and good salads. The coffee is good too. haven't tried the cakes but the look nice. friendly service and free water to accompany your meal. Small inside on a rainy day, but a lovely garden for the nicer days. I will be going again.

I frequently visit this lovely cafe; the cakes are incredible and the range of choice seems to change daily. Diverse range of drinks and salads too which on a sunny day can be enjoyed in the pretty cottage garden at the back. Highly recommend

So Sad. We were excited to try this place, it looked great from the outside. Unfortunately the Customer Service and atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. We greeted and received an almost begrudged smile/nod. I asked about certain cakes to engage and got the 'tapping' of the label about each cake almost a silent rebuke for asking. We will not return or recommend this place for many reasons.

Went in here for a little family coffee last week but sad to say they were not child friendly, we were looked at as if we were not welcome despite our children being very well behaved and no trouble at all. The owner was quite miserable and not very welcoming at all! I much rather respect independent cafes that welcome your custom and have a sunny disposition rather than being greeted by a sour face.

We were passing through Aberganenny on route to North Wales. Our first visit to the town and delighted to find this cafe. Its excellent. Small inside but they have a garden. Friendly staff and great lunch, coffee and cake. Will definitely call again if passing through

Just happened upon this wonderful little place. Lovely cakes and food. We also had the toasted sandwiches. They were delicious 😋. Highly recommended.

I popped in here for the first time last month as I noticed it said on the sign outside about Vegan options and thought it would be lovely to go and have (hopefully) a drink and cake. Upon entry I said hello with nothing but a very short fake smile followed by nothing else. I asked if any of the cakes were vegan friendly and the reply I got was, 'i think it's that one and that one'. Which filled me full of great confidence. I also mentioned that the lavender latte sounded lovely and I wondered if that was fine for me to have, in which i got no reply other than a look of me being a pain to her. By this point the manner in which I was being treated there was no way I was sitting inside and desperately wanted to leave but as I am not the confrontational or rude type, I asked if it was possible if I could take away a piece of cake. The gentleman who also works there entered at this point and she asked him which are the vegan ones which he very bluntly replied ' that one and that one, why?' ( whether they dont get on, have had a falling out or are just this rude on a daily basis I'm not sure but it was horrendous.) I paid for a piece of cake which was followed by no thank you, nothing. And left. I'm not sure if I just went in on a bad day but unfortunately I will not be returning after my experience which is a shame as the cake was actually very pleasant.

Popped in here when in Abergavenny because I enjoy a coffee and croissant. I managed to nab the last croissant, although it was only mid morning. Both were good quality and staff were friendly. It’s a very small and quirky cafe. I enjoyed it. On a small point, I noticed the stone floor is uneven, meaning that my table moved about a little bit, nothing too important though. The cafe is in a handy location and you can sit in the garden at the rear in nice weather.

Gorgeous smoothies and great toasties. Very fresh,very home made and clean using quality ingredients. Lovely tasty side salad with the toasties as well, instead of the sad tomato and iceberg effort you usually get. Coffee is excellent. Staff very relaxed and happy people.

The Fig Tree definitely does that best cake in Abergavenny, and good coffee too. It has a lovely garden, and a quirky atmosphere, which will be enjoyed by arty types. Lunches are also good, quiches, salads etc. Our favourite pit stop in town.

We're still talking about that delicious lunch. Falafel wraps were very tasty, with a chutney and a couscous salad. My friend is dairy free and there were three vegan cakes to choose from. We had the banana and chocolate one and it was rich and delicious, accompanied by a pot of tea each. With generous portions, great service and a lovely atmosphere, the Fig Tree is well worth a visit.

You have to love the brilliant coffee and choice of homemade cake and veggie tarts and quiches. Cozy and friendly in the cafe in the winter and don’t forget their secret dog friendly garden in the Summer for coffee amongst the wild flowers - we love it!

We enjoy every visit we make to this delightful independent cafe. It has the best coffee in Abergavenny delicious cakes sandwiches soup and savoury tart with unusual salads, yummy!! There is a delightful garden to enjoy in the better weather also. My husband and I are regular visitors.

This place is so quaint! The homemade cakes are always amazing, with different ones daily. The coffees and hot drinks are always so yummy - I especially recommend the chai latte! The service is great and the people are so friendly. This is the best place around for a quick lunch bite or coffee and cake!

We also called here today, and witnessed what seemed to be an altercation behind the counter with the lady and the cook who was not wearing any whites. The soup of the day was tasteless but on the plus side coffee was nice. The owners should think about the customers and if not sell up? I have previously called here and found things ok.

I returned after a 3 year absence and the owners were having a heated argument behind the counter (having witnessed previous ones emanating from the kitchen) and was grunted at when I tried to pay with a card. You really need to brush up on your customer service skills - perhaps you're both in the wrong industry? Such a shame as it's a great location and the coffee is on par. Supported this place so many times; shame about the service, but perhaps I had poo on my shoe...

This small but beautiful little café is a jewel in Abergavenny. My wife and I visit at least once a week, my wife more. Tremendous coffee and cafes to die for made by Jess and her partner, plus some lovely snacks, toasties and fabulous salads. Anyone visiting Abergavenny must make a bee line for this place. OUTSTANDING !!!

I often meet here with friends for coffee and cakes. Always something different on offer - amazing flavours and textures! Today’s choices (almond & caramel and turmeric & oat bar) were, as always, delicious. The ‘pre-loved’ clothes shop next door (run by Angela) always has lovely things too. I highly recommend a visit!

Excellent and understated little cafe with really good proper coffee and homemade cakes. The lunch menu is small - usually soup, a savoury tart of some kind, salad, toasted sandwiches or equivalent - but beautifully made. In summer it's lovely to sit in their delightful garden behind the cafe where they grow herbs, veg and native flowers.

Have seen peanut butter blondies in window which I love, haven't had chance to visit before today, off work for a few days in town shopping so thought I would pop in for the first, and sadly last time. I like to support independent businesses in Abergavenny. Café was empty I ordered at the counter latte and peanut butter cake. The lady did not smile or make any small talk or pleasantries. She was busy packing some boxes fair enough, but I was the only customer which made an awkward atmosphere in an intimate space. I even asked the lady was she the owner, as I couldn't believe the owner of an establishment would be so unwelcoming, 'yes' 'was the answer followed by nothing! Perhaps it was a bad day, perhaps she didn't want anymore customers today (or ever), it was around 3 o'clock. As I read from previous feedback local customers are your 'bread and butter'. You surely need to be pleasant and friendly then to your customers, especially one that has not been in before. The coffee and cake were good, no complaints there-well the debate about covering cakes etc but I won't go into that its been done before, and I knew the set up regarding this as I had seen through window. I was happily pottering about town looking forward to meeting old friends tonight and it put a real dampener on my day, you should not leave an establishment feeling like that, in deed I never have before.

We popped into this empty cafe for a coffee and a slice of cake. I have to say, the banana and pecan cake was delicious, but sadly the woman serving seemed miserable, barely made eye contact and failed to make us feel welcome.

Encontré este lugar en tripadvisor y no nos decepcionó! El personal era muy amable y acogedor para mí, cuando yo entré. Como era un hermoso día, decidí sentarme en el jardín, qué delicia. Era muy tranquilo, lo que no parecen encontrar fácilmente cuando me cofffee estos días! Sábado junto a la higuera en este jardín hermoso chalet con sólo una pequeña robin para la compañía. . . felicidad!
