I ordered the meze from the vegan menu. This is my first choice at Portivo. The meze arrived without homous pomegranate seeds and Persian grains The greenery was just shredded cabbage. The server got me some homous and pomegranate seeds when I told her. This is the second time this has happened. How can they serve this without half the ingredients? No homous no seeds or grains. The first time I was given a credit note but I felt too embarrassed to complain a second time. However. I will not be returning to Estero. It's a rip off ..

I visit the place often with my daughter which sadly I won’t be going back after being in Monmouth 5 years it was my go to place. Overall I’ve not had a bad experience until I have a bad experience and complain. I ordered 5 meals as I had friends visiting and wanted to treat them to a place I often rate. I ordered various dishes no issues I ordered tapas for myself along with a side of ciabatta so I could have it with my meal as the tapas was a sauce type meal. When stating it hadn’t come I was told it doesn’t come with the meal so after showed my email recipe as i ordered on the app - stating it was an extra I paid she speak with the kitchen. All my party had finished their meal whilst the dishes I chose were nicely accompanied with a bread had to wait, I then had to ask again if it was ready 15 min or so later… I was told the kitchen were very busy. I said I appreciated this however I should be a prority surely due to it being a missed item and my party has now finished their meals. I honestly were made to feel so frigging bad for complaining that I started to over explain myself to the waitresses… yes two of them - I asked for a refund on my tapas as clearly I hadn’t eaten it as it was cold & my party were ready to leave. I spoke to another waitress at the bar who again made it clear that it was busy therefore that was somehow an excuse or my fault? My theory is this… if you order at 2.30pm and waited to 3.30pm for a ciabatta someone who ordered at 3pm is priority ? Doesn’t make sense! I hate complainers but after my afternoon it left a really bad taste in my mouth. I can regretfully say after spending many a pound in there I definitely won’t be showing my face there again. Fyi I’m sure to them it’ll be good ridden as that was the attitude I felt from those waitresses today. The moral of this review is - food is fab the staff are fab until you are not happy & challenge it. I appreciate Christmas is challenging for the service industry however it was Friday 27th I was there on Christmas Eve with my daughter it was stupidly busy then I’m so glad my meal wasn’t a challenge phew!

Our final mini-break of 2024 was well underway, with our short journey to southeast Wales, to this small town of Monmouth. We spent a couple of hours looking-around the town centre and visiting various shops, and local historical sites. Now being late lunchtime it had become time to relax and while-away an hour-or-so. We would then return to our hotel (where we had parked-up) to check-into our room. This lounge-café-bar is one of a chain of about 220 high-street and town-centre Lounges throughout England and Wales. We have wined and dined at many of these Lounges over the years: including several which are local to us in the Bristol-Bath-Chippenham area. The formula is obviously successful, and the standard is generally very good; rarely failing to please. We knew that there would be a small, but well varied, choice of wine available here. We wanted to sit in comfort with a couple of glasses; relax, rest-up, chat, and people watch for 90 minutes or so. We sat in the raised area (4-5 steps up) at far-end of this appreciably large dining area. The comfortable low sofa, with a low table in front of it, was perfect for wine-drinking. With nothing behind us we could view what was going-on (just great for relaxing and people watching). We studied the wine list: my Partner chose the ‘Rebeland’, South African Chenin Blanc 250ml: hints of guava on the nose, with a subtle citrus undertone of white peach on the palate. Very good and much enjoyed, including the second 175ml glass. I chose the Mirabeau ‘Forever Summer’ 250ml: a classic pale French Provence rosé from Côte d’Azur. It was dry with delicate red-berry aromas, refreshing acidity, with a short gentle finish. Very good indeed; much enjoyed, including the second 250ml glass. Drinks and also food (the latter of which we didn’t partake) are ordered at the bar, and are then served at tables. Service was prompt and very pleasant. We finished our wine and so gathered ourselves for our brief stroll back to our hotel. We planned to rest-up before our much anticipated dinner reservation at a local Italian Restaurante. As we prepare for our return to our hotel a middle-aged couple pushing a pram arrived at a nearby table. As they manoeuvred the pram I could see that the expected infant was in fact a medium-large dog: I thought “That must have been good wine!” We walked past and spoke to the owners of the dog, and then walked over to greet the dog. The owners were most informative and offered an explanation of the pram. It would seem the dog was now quite old and infirm, but it had once been an award-winning show-dog. The dog really reacted so gently to the fuss. It was hard to feel anything other than compassion for the dog’s age and condition. Sadly the poor old dog was most unlikely to enjoy anything else, it’s such a shame that lovely animals like this have to grow old.

Nice space, friendly staff It was busy with only a few tables free at 6 on Sunday evening so I ordered online. Food took around 35 minutes to arrive. My husband's steak frites was good, my meze bowl was ok, I don't think all the components on the menu were included, glad I had the buttermilk chicken as well. It was quite dark in the restaurant upstairs.

We went here for dinner as it was one of the only places open in Monmouth on a Monday evening. The food here is overall good and is consistent in quality. I had the halloumi burger which was very nice, and the fries that come with it are always very good too. They recently changed the dishes they serve food in, which seems like a downgrade from the previous ones used as a lot of the new ones are already chipped and broken, which is a real shame. The service here is good and the people are friendly. Pretty good value for money, especially when certain deals are on such as Cheeky Monday.

Visited Estero lounge today (Sunday lunchtime). Waited an hour for drinks and food. Watermelon ice tea was nice and a pint of Cruzcampo was good, kids drink was odd, like it had come from the staff room. I get the whole eco friendliness of paper straws also but these just dissolved before your drink is finished. When the food arrived it was so poor, rubbish value for money. The Philly ciabatta with chips (£12ish) was measly, hardly any beef, no discernable cheese in an over grilled ciabatta roll. The kids meal was equally poor, dried up peas served in a rusty mug, 3 nuggets and the tiniest portion of chips. The little touches are also poor, cheap and nasty ketchup from a burger van squeezy tomato. Not great at all, even more so because I regularly visit the Chepstow and Gloucester lounges.

I didnt expect raw prawns. I do love the Estero Lounge but sadly the only disappointment is the food menu. Yes I know its the same across the chain but across the chain it's the same problem....the food. It really lets the chain amd the place down. I really dont find it tasty or even good. It's below average. I cant fault the manager for apologising and refunding me for the food but raw prawns... ome on thats slack. The chilli isn't spicy and the slow cooked pork is just appauling..across the chain id love a fresh approach to tbe cusine. Sack the group chef or just go back to tbe drawing board and also give each lounge some autonomy or special anything and i mean anything something different steaks, peri chicken, decent portions. Start again I beg you

It’s not very often I leave a bad review, but I had an absolutely awful experience at Estero in Monmouth. Firstly, we were not greeted upon entry and waited for over 10mins before going to find a member of staff to actually see to us. The sign isn’t very accurate advising that they won’t be long. There was 8 of us (plus a baby) eating and each couple ordered separately via the QR code on the table. I would say we all ordered within the same 5 mins, but mine and my partners food arrived at least 15mins, possibly 20mins after everyone else’s which was not great. People did wait initially but we urged them to continue eating to save their meals going cold. By the time our food arrived, everyone else had finished eating. I ordered the fish finger sandwich which was firstly completely cold upon arrival, but the chips were boiling hot so can only assume the sandwich was left waiting for the chips to finish cooking. Inside the fish finger sandwich, there was literally 2 fish fingers, one and a half fish fingers per half. This is shocking, the rest of the sandwich was stuffed with lettuce which also tasted off and did not look good at all. I also ordered onion rings and these were stone cold and rock hard. I ate one and then didn’t bother with the rest. The toilets were in a terrible state, definitely not cleaned regularly as the signage in there suggests and there was also a literal human poo on the floor in the men’s in the toilet cubicle. We did report this to the staff who did apologise, but no one came to sort this in at least the half an hour from us reporting it to us leaving which is quite poor. The service was also really bad. We had a blonde waitress who had a multicoloured lanyard and she seemed to have no personality whatsoever. She slammed the food down upon arrival (not infront of the right person, more next to people for us to sort) and after this she walked off immediately and we couldn’t even get the chance to ask for sauces or anything as she was gone. Throughout the whole meal no one came to ask us how the food was or anything, and as you pre pay on the app there was no staff interaction at all after the food was dropped off. If this was paid for at the end of the meal, I would have objected to paying for the fish finger sandwich due to the fact it was stone cold and a complete rip off having 2 fish fingers in there. I would have also not paid for the onion rings as they were inedible. I left feedback from a email link and also separately emailed the restaurant but have had no one come back to me to even apologise. Based on my experience, I really would not reccomend going here at all.

As a nostalgic nod to previous hiking trips with buddies past we decided to abandon Symonds Yat for the day and travel to Tintern to take in the Wye Valley Greenway and “earn” a pub lunch to boot. Familiar tactic to tire the dogs so they were well behaved in yet another dog/vegan-friendly hostelry. We parked up mid-morning in The Anchor car park which vies with the Abbey car park nearby for passing traffic. There’s a £5 all day charge which, conveniently for us at least, is refunded against your expenditure in the pub. We chose to walk across the old rail bridge then on the WVG all the way to the, closed in Winter (October to April), rail tunnel which, when open, allows you to yomp all the way to Chepstow. Took a few snaps (excuse the pun) of the crafted crocodile, made of old sleepers and rail joints, then retraced our steps to the Anchor. The pub has the air of a large chain pub; which is not a criticism merely an observation. We plonked ourselves in the Cider Mill Bar which has, as its centrepiece, an old hand pushed apple press. Once again, due to the timing of our visit in a chilly Welsh January, the pub was far from full. The Cider Mill section was ideal for us post-amble with large wooden booths, flagstone floors and its own bar. The dogs got themselves comfortable than I took to the bar, was warmly welcomed then ordered a, now familiar, pint of Wye Valley Butty Bach and a HPA for MrsC. Good vegan choices but we both settled on the bargain that was a hefty jacket spud with a generous topping of 3 bean chilli; a snip in these straitened times and with the refund of the parking fee a spud and a pint came in at a tad over a £10/head. A warm and welcoming hug after a frosty promenade along the old railway track. Service was warm, the atmosphere convivial and the food generous. I’m sure it’s a different picture in the height of a tourist summer but it was a welcome haven after a hearty tramp and fitted the bill perfectly for dog-owning, vegan hikers (they even had Doom Bar zero on draught) Great set-up for its location and seems to have honed its offering to align with the mix of customers they want/need to attract.
