Flying visit on our way through during a UK road trip vacation. We had planned to stop to show the kids the abbey but took the opportunity to visit the carvery while we were there. Two of us had the carvery, some ordered off the menu - fish and chips was popular too. We all had a good visit and have no hesitation recommending the restaurant to others.

We all really enjoyed our meals. I had the fish and chips and it was superb, such lovely and crisp batter. The chips were tasty. The only reason we've given 4 instead of 5 stars was because the table wasn't cleaned before we were seated there was a dirty coffee cup left on the table that we cleared away ourselves as nobody came to do it. But otherwise it was lovely. The staff were very friendly. We will be back!

I did like this pub. It’s clean and pretty and there’s lots of space. The way that the ordering system works and the staff need changing however. We waited at the bar for drinks for around 15 minuets whilst 7 different staff members wondered through with only one serving, this service was slow. Drinks themselves fine but upon ordering more there was a “queue” system in place at the bar which took up most of the restaurant again with limited staff serving. The wait time for food we found to be quite long. Apart from that it’s a nice visit and facilities are clean and modern

Lovely food, my Caesar salad was delicious, my husband had the gammon steak and loved the addition of the fresh pineapple. It was busy (Saturday lunchtime) but we didn’t have to wait too long for food. Overall very enjoyable and we can recommend.

Have eaten here before but find the standards drop off Nacho with no sour cream, over cooked so all cheese burnt at bottom and no peppers as described, the salsa sauce was a thin artificial bright red liquid something, but not salsa. Main was flavorless, luke warm and looked like it was from the bottom of the pan, salad consisted of just green lettuce leaves no cucumber, tomatoes, peppers etc. This is a pub that's busier in the day, maybe running out of certain items in the evening, that's OK but tell the customers. The locals will be about in times when tourists arnt

The food was delicious and the portions quite big, they have vegan and gluten free options as well

When there today for food my granddaughter ordered pasta with garlic bread it cost over 8.00 was not happy with the size thay give her for that much garlic bread was so small and the pasta just so small it was a joke will never go there again

Fab breakfast but make sure you go early as they start clearing away at 10.30…

Super location pub right by Tintern Abbey to turn un after a long walk. Good steady pub grub and service.

An excellent, massive pub right next to Tintern Abbey. I bet monks used to brew beer here! A really well considered selection of beer. Nice margarita pizza too with lots of mozzarella. Cheers.

The food was nice, we only had starters and sides. The ale was good, couldn't fault the service. The flies were a pain though. Have been numerous times and will come again.

After visiting the outstanding Tintern Abbey, we visited the Anchor Inn and enjoyed delicious glasses of Spiced Apple Cider. The bar is beautiful and the team is super friendly.

A really lovely pub next to the abbey. The food is great and especially the tower burger. Plus, we watched the football on the tv with a lovely pint of Nightstar.

Lovely night spent with friends the they kept the kitchen open especially for us and it was really lovely food. I had the burger and what a burger it was. They keep great beer. Kingstone brewery beer is lovely. You won’t be disappointed!

We had lovely light lunch 😋 sandwiches and salad . Fresh bread with ham off the bone and cheese. Salad had a lovely dressing on it and was well presented on the plate.

First time but want be the last. Can't fault anything. The staff were really friendly and the service was great.

It's located in a lovely place which I a way boosts any stars I give it. Not everything was available on the menu which caused a bit of a disappointment for some of my fellow diners. My chicken and barbequed spare ribs came.. I ate most of it as was hungry. Service, not enough people were serving so service was a tad slow. Atmosphere would have been better had obviously stressed employees HD a few additional hands. Saying that I would go again as just using for one evening should not put anyone off.

Decent service, nice outside space. Also they deduct the car park cost from your bill which is nice. The food is good portion size, but really generic. Nachos were over cooked, with dried firm hard cheese and no sour cream. Burger was dry and the bacon and pulled pork didn't add anything. Chips were decent. Pub food has been better than this for a long time now. Shame because of the positives, but ultimately left wishing I'd just gone home and cooked instead. Grab a pint in the sun, skip the food.

Nice place. If you eat here, you can also spend the night in the parking lot for free with your camper.

Very expensive £31 for three coke malibu and coke and a pint.

My daughter booked a family party for a large group as unbeknown to me she was announcing the fact i was going to be a grandad - again - early next year The venue was so noisy thanks to the place being nothing but hard surface with no soft furnishings i couldn’t hear a word anyone said from my seat at the end of the table. The service was chaotic. Some if our meals arrived but there was no sign of the others thirty minutes later. Enquiries were met with a strange response that because my son in law’s mum and I had split the table order across two tickets they were dealt with separately hence the delay. Which is a bit hard to believe was the cause of this delay as they brought some of the orders on my ticket and one of the orders on the other then went off to serve others for 30 minutes. They make a BIG thing about how you have to pay for the car park and they refund it, but in reality there is no charge after 6pm which probably explains why on arrival at 6:30 we had to fight our way through what must have been the Wye Valley Motor Caravanning Club to park. Apparently my daughter likes the place because it’s where she and her other half went for their first meal out and where he took her back to propose but i’m not impresed

What a wonderful setting for an afternoon beer. The pub has an extensive beer garden all around with great views of the Abbey. Well worth a visit, and Theo was super friendly and accommodating too! Great job!

Service quite slow with no explanation or apology.

Really disappointed with the quality of food, I had scampi which was really over done alone with the chips and peas that came with it. My daughter had the child’s Mac & cheese which was also over done and looked like sick on a plate! 2 orders were put through wrong so 2 family members where sat waiting a further 30 mins for there meals. The table and cutlery was also dirty can’t say we will be back

Absolutely brilliant Sunday Carvery. We go often and the food is always consistently excellent. The pub itself is clean, airy but with also original features. The staff are attentive. Today Theo and Dominic looked after us. Over all a great experience over looking the historic Tintern Abbey. Highly recommend...

Came with the dog, who loved to have a run around. The outside seating area is next to a large but enclosed field where dogs are free to run. The burgers were fantastic, I didn't go inside but I had a quick look in and it's all wheelchair accessible and the building is lovely. Lovely all around, definitely worth a visit to this pub and the Tintern Abbey if you live in South Wales or the Severn Valley region. Highly recommended, will be returning.

Not much to say other than the food was pretty terrible. The nachos had no sour cream and were plastered with hard chedder and syrupy salsa. When we asked if there was an alternative we could purchase for sour cream, we were told there wasn't any, but that we could have mayo? Additionally, the pizzas didn't feel remotely 'hand stretched' as advertised, they tasted more freezer bought, very thick, doughy and sparse toppings. The hunter chicken went down well though, so maybe go for that if you visit.

Excellent place for dine-in, lady at the till was very accomodating with our food request.

£7.50 for a tuba mayo sandwich which was just 2 slices of sliced hovis folded over with a spoon full of filling, not impressed, otherwise nice location, nice beer and friendly

Beautiful little pub excellent for dogs on a warm day with a great view of the Abby, unfortunately the sandwiches we ordered would have been better ordered from a service station garage other than that worth a visit

I've been to this pub for lunch twice now, 18 months apart and had the worst meal ever on each occasion. Soup which tasted of nothing and a sandwich of supermarket type bread which wasn't even buttered, grated cheese from a packet just dumped in the centre and a few bits of ham sprinkled inside which was not what I expected for that price.

The Anchor is so much you do not expect of a pub right up close to a major tourist attraction. You pay £5 to park all day in the car park with the promise of your money back when you spend in the pub. This gives the opportunity of a long walk, a visit to the Abbey and a guaranteed return to the pub. we did all of this and were rewarded with a late lunch in atmospheric surroundings with lovely views of the Abbey and the Wye Valley. There is also a large beer garden and a garden room cafe if you are not a pub fan. The food choice is good with all the traditional dishes you would expect to find on a pub menu plus excellent seasonal, vegetarian options. My friend had the leek tart with new potatoes and salad and I had the chickpea salad, topped with char-grilled cherry tomatoes. Both were exceptionally good. Staff were helpful and when it came to paying asked if we had a voucher. All credit to the Anchor for providing an outstanding welcome to visitors in the Wye Valley. We live fairly locally and will return soon.

A welcome pint expertly pulled at the halfway point in a long walk. Didn't eat, but the food on others' plates looked good!

We first took a coffee in the morning in one of the bars, staff are really nice. We came back later for a little lunch & a beer (i think mine was named after a local king way back) and again the staff were prompt, polite and very smiley.

The steak was probably one of the nicest I’ve ever tasted! The pub wasn’t too busy for a weekday. The pub is dog friendly & muddy boots are welcomed also. Which was great after a muddy walk in the mountains.

Dreadful food had a sandwich what could go wrong?? Arrived after a long wait, processed bread turned up on edges because it was dry. A few crumbs of cheese and a few salad leaves only ate half. Granddaughter had macaroni cheese it was dry and looked like it had been warmed up. Later she had a very bad tummy. It wasn't cheap either. Been here several times in the past but I hope they don't rely on repeat business as we won't return.

Came on easter Sunday. Despite being very busy they did very well to sort us out with seating. The carvery was pretty good and good value, and despite being so busy they got a special vegan roast to our table in good time. Great location and very nice staff.

Beautiful location with absolutely gorgeous food but colossally let down by the team of staff. They almost entirely ignored us all night. Nearly every time we wanted to order we had to go find them. Service was slow, mildly friendly and let the whole pub down sadly.

The food was 10/10 , situated in a lovely part of tintern right opposite the abbey. Will most definitely be coming back

We met here for a surprise lunch for my sister. The food was lovely and it’s a great location. However, what really made the visit special was Ella who looked after us. One of our family had dietary restrictions and she was absolutely fabulous at explaining what would be ok for him to eat. For dessert, Ella put together a fantastic version of a banana split which was a lovely surprise. Thank you so much Ella, we really did appreciate your kindness and care.

We're told 1hr wait despite reserving a table. Food was alright but nothing special.

Booked a table for 6 of us to celebrate Mother’s Day and our mum being free of cancer recently so it was a family get together / celebration. The staff as always were absolutely perfect , happy , friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Ordered various dishes , two lasagnes , two mixed grills , a steak and hunters chicken. EVERY meal was of top quality and cooked to perfection , honestly there was not a single fault to be had !! Really wanted to try the great looking desserts on offer but we were all too full on the fantastic main meals !! The price for the 6 meals with all the drinks was such good value for money. We gave a twenty pound tip as the whole evening was made so special, food , staff , cleanliness and atmosphere was excellent and couldn’t be bettered. Will be back on Saturday with my wife and two children ( who have also been before ) for more culinary delights. We’ve now been coming here for a couple of years and I couldn’t recommend it high enough To anyone thinking of coming here , it’s a must !

I would recommend this place for the food, atmosphere and views over the Abbey. The food was fresh and amazing. Their collection of wines is good and the views over the Abbey are amazing.

Welcoming staff, even though pub very busy. A few too many dogs barking at each other which got a bit irritating, but the main disappointment was the steak & ale pie. The accompanying veg & potatoes were lovely, but the pie itself was essentially bland gravy with 2 pieces of beef ( yes , really!) swimming around in it, topped with pastry. I’ve never had a meat pie containing so little meat!! Other food being served looked better, so maybe a bad choice, but I would try somewhere else another time.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch at The Anchor - both had the carvery. Lots of options, all perfectly cooked and hot. Staff are helpful and friendly and they manage to create a relaxed atmosphere even at busy times. Throughly recommeded and we will return.

Great food with a very good carvery and at a very reasonable price. Location is perfect by Tintan Abbey and a complete set of local walks around the area.

Food was great. Beer not good today. Service team seemed rather overwhelmed by demands in them this lunchtime. Nice space, though, great situation and a very handy carpark.

A very relaxed place to take a break, grab a drink and bite to eat and relax, unrushed with you dog. Warmly welcomed and helpful with questions about local shops etc. I had the gammon, egg and fresh pineapple it was lovely, as was the local beer.

First time going and would I go back yes. Fab meals fab portions and friendly staff.

Lovely Sunday roast here. Was very busy so ensure you book. A queue to pay for parking, remember to present the refund part of the ticket to get your £5 back at the bar.

Fantastic Christmas lunch here. We love this pub, and Christmas Day didn't disappoint. They managed the numbers, and so service was quick and efficient. The staff were so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The atmosphere was jolly but not overly loud. The food, as always, was excellent. We had a wonderful time and am looking forward to going back for my January birthday celebrations! Highly recommended.

It's definitely the location and not the food that keeps this place going. Overpriced, bland, mostly frozen and tasteless. If you like like warm chips and brown salad leaves then get yourself there pronto

Rubbish service. Walked in and waited at the bar, zero staff visible apart from the waitress (who was stood doing nothing) by the dining area. Had to go over to ask about a table for food, told “sit wherever”, which we did. Further 10 mins, zero staff interaction, menu looked rubbish and very “chain pub” style. Decided against food, went to try again at the bar for a drink, again zero staff. Sum total of 20 mins wasted in a dead bar/restaurant with poor staff interaction and no atmosphere. Went back up the road to the proper local pub and had a great meal and great service. Really poor experience.

Nice pub to meet friends and family for a lunch, or to finish up at after a walk. Nice atmosphere. The old part of the pub features a massive cider press trough and wheel. On the outside you can see the old entrance to the Tintern ferry, and of course there's a great view of the Abbey. There are two bars, one in the old part of the pub, the other in the newer dining area. Don't expect to get served at the old bar, no one will come! Food is pretty good, although I have to say the peas are consistently awful. Nice little play area on-site for the kids, with swings and climbing frame.

A wonderfully busy pub with great service and food from Niki and the team. Despite 30 of us turning up for lunch on a busy pre Christmas Sunday, we were all seated fed and watered in 30 mins. Well done to all, you did us proud.👍

Very large pub that has a noisy, boisterous atmosphere. Dog-friendly. Extensive menu but very ‘pub’ and few vegetarian or vegan options. Good Selection of desserts. The conservatory has nice views of the west front of the abbey. Decent enough food, decent enough service but you’ll struggle to remember what you had to eat within hours.

Excellent, friendly pub. Very welcoming to us and our 4 dogs. The carvery was superb. Not your usual tepid, soggy offering. Really fresh, hot and delicious and great value. The £5 all day parking fee can be redeemed on food in the pub as well which we appreciated.

Lovely pub in a great location. Food was great. Service at the bar a little slow, but wouldn't normally be an issue. However after getting 2 copies of our parking ticket, one displaying in the car, the other the receipt, when presenting this to the pub we were told we weren't able to redeem the £5 back, as stated everywhere. Apparently there was supposed to be another ticket that printed, in addition to the two we had. I went to the car in a dounpour to try and then redeem it with that ticket, but even asking to speak to the manager, was told no. After a lovely walk and a lovely meal, this leaves a really bad taste in our mouth. The manager did not want to help, and customer service is clearly not a focus here. Hence the 1 star review. It's the little things that make a big difference, and anyone in the hospitality industry with a manager title should know this.
