Visited on a fairly busy day. Waited 40 mins for food which was communicated to us on ordering at the bar so no problem there The fish was good. Crisp batter and tasty. The burger was not so good. The patty was dry and dense. The bacon was so overdone that it flaked apart. The bun wasn't toasted so the bread was really soggy from the sauce and the onion rings were saturated with oil and were tough and very overcooked. Our party of four all had chips which were luke warm and dry. They tasted like an old batch and we all left them. For £18.50 for a burger and fries this was very poor.

Lovely pub in a great location right next to the abbey ample parking at £5 but with the ticket you get £5 off in the abbey or the Anchor pub… food was really nice especially sat in the garden with the abbey in view. Bonus of a kids play area in the rear and football pitch just off the garden.

We visited after an evening event at the Abbey next door. Was busy and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was ok and sufficient. The description and price suggested something more special. Defo a good place for a drink and meet friends for nibbles. Would not go for posh nosh. But very big positive is it is dog friendly.

Lovely interior and location, however let down by numerous menu items not available, inattentive staff who we had to flag down multiple times. Needing to return to the bar three times to chase a coffee and tea spoon after deserts had already arrived. Same ordeal when requesting the bill. The meals were mediocre and expensive whilst unfortunately lacking in flavour (Masala)

Sited next to the start/end point of a Devils Pulpit walk, we attended as a party of 4, with 4 dogs and seated quickly. 3 of the party where vegetarian, meaning they had to wait for their nutt roast as the queue grew in length for the carvery. Fortunately I gave up waiting for them to get their food so joined the queue. Fortunate because when their food came, after a talk with the wait staff, they could nip on ahead to the trimmings. This needs to be explained better, had I waited they'd have finished before I had my meal. The food it's self was lacking, dry beef, ham was moist and salty. The roast potatoes where abysmal, pretty sure they had not been par boiled, rock solid crust and barley cooked in the middle. The Yorkshire had a well oil in it, not pleasant, the US will start marking a claim soon. The broccoli was fantastic, just how I like it, gravy, whislt okay, didn't taste like they'd taken advantage of the cooking juices. The staff where accomadating and professional, even with the lack of clarity on the nut roast, no qualms there. They managed a massively busy period extremely well. Its often the staff that hold up some establishments, I hope the owners realise the asset they have in them. Overall, I won't be going back, one time thing, reasonable in price, but I'd rather pay more and get quality. On the quality/cost line, I'd say its under, paying too much for lacking quality.

Stayed here in our motorhome on a Saturday evening in August. Paid to park during the late afternoon/evening in the main car park near the entrance/welcome centre for Tintern abbey in one of the coach spaces. Great dinner in the pub (claimed back the £5 parking we’d paid), then moved our motorhome into the main tarmac car park in the evening next to the pub itself (as the landlady had recommended). Really quiet night - had breakfast in the café over the road next to the public toilets - open v early.

Have eaten here before but find the standards drop off Nacho with no sour cream, over cooked so all cheese burnt at bottom and no peppers as described, the salsa sauce was a thin artificial bright red liquid something, but not salsa. Main was flavorless, luke warm and looked like it was from the bottom of the pan, salad consisted of just green lettuce leaves no cucumber, tomatoes, peppers etc. This is a pub that's busier in the day, maybe running out of certain items in the evening, that's OK but tell the customers. The locals will be about in times when tourists arnt

It's located in a lovely place which I a way boosts any stars I give it. Not everything was available on the menu which caused a bit of a disappointment for some of my fellow diners. My chicken and barbequed spare ribs came.. I ate most of it as was hungry. Service, not enough people were serving so service was a tad slow. Atmosphere would have been better had obviously stressed employees HD a few additional hands. Saying that I would go again as just using for one evening should not put anyone off.

Decent service, nice outside space. Also they deduct the car park cost from your bill which is nice. The food is good portion size, but really generic. Nachos were over cooked, with dried firm hard cheese and no sour cream. Burger was dry and the bacon and pulled pork didn't add anything. Chips were decent. Pub food has been better than this for a long time now. Shame because of the positives, but ultimately left wishing I'd just gone home and cooked instead. Grab a pint in the sun, skip the food.

My daughter booked a family party for a large group as unbeknown to me she was announcing the fact i was going to be a grandad - again - early next year The venue was so noisy thanks to the place being nothing but hard surface with no soft furnishings i couldn’t hear a word anyone said from my seat at the end of the table. The service was chaotic. Some if our meals arrived but there was no sign of the others thirty minutes later. Enquiries were met with a strange response that because my son in law’s mum and I had split the table order across two tickets they were dealt with separately hence the delay. Which is a bit hard to believe was the cause of this delay as they brought some of the orders on my ticket and one of the orders on the other then went off to serve others for 30 minutes. They make a BIG thing about how you have to pay for the car park and they refund it, but in reality there is no charge after 6pm which probably explains why on arrival at 6:30 we had to fight our way through what must have been the Wye Valley Motor Caravanning Club to park. Apparently my daughter likes the place because it’s where she and her other half went for their first meal out and where he took her back to propose but i’m not impresed

Not much to say other than the food was pretty terrible. The nachos had no sour cream and were plastered with hard chedder and syrupy salsa. When we asked if there was an alternative we could purchase for sour cream, we were told there wasn't any, but that we could have mayo? Additionally, the pizzas didn't feel remotely 'hand stretched' as advertised, they tasted more freezer bought, very thick, doughy and sparse toppings. The hunter chicken went down well though, so maybe go for that if you visit.

I've been to this pub for lunch twice now, 18 months apart and had the worst meal ever on each occasion. The Anchor is so much you do not expect of a pub right up close to a major tourist attraction. You pay £5 to park all day in the car park with the promise of your money back when you spend in the pub. This gives the opportunity of a long walk, a visit to the Abbey and a guaranteed return to the pub. we did all of this and were rewarded with a late lunch in atmospheric surroundings with lovely views of the Abbey and the Wye Valley. There is also a large beer garden and a garden room cafe if you are not a pub fan. The food choice is good with all the traditional dishes you would expect to find on a pub menu plus excellent seasonal, vegetarian options. My friend had the leek tart with new potatoes and salad and I had the chickpea salad, topped with char-grilled cherry tomatoes. Both were exceptionally good. Staff were helpful and when it came to paying asked if we had a voucher. All credit to the Anchor for providing an outstanding welcome to visitors in the Wye Valley. We live fairly locally and will return soon.

Welcoming staff, even though pub very busy. A few too many dogs barking at each other which got a bit irritating, but the main disappointment was the steak & ale pie. The accompanying veg & potatoes were lovely, but the pie itself was essentially bland gravy with 2 pieces of beef ( yes , really!) swimming around in it, topped with pastry. Having read poor previous reviews and like many other people on the caravan site we unfortunately gave it a go. Alledgedly the “ landlady “ was on a sticky leaving a hardworking and conscientious 17 year old in charge ,on her own she did a great job, even her mum turned up to help, the problem was the kitchen staff, the food was awful, the lasagne passed ok, the steak barely ok, as complained about before the burgers were grisly and got spat out, excuse my manners, and the beef curry completely inedible, a total waste of money and time, I asked young girl to relay this to “ chefs” and had a small discount, in retrospect we shouldn’t have paid at all. On the next morning the front tables still full of bottles, glasses and has trays, my opinion couldn’t care less lazy staff, except young girl who deserved massive pay rise and more respect from “landlady “ , enough said, AVOID.
