Didn't stay, but vusitvthe pub regularly. Well worth a visit.

Classic local, smack bang in the town square, love it.

Turned up here at 7.15 pm having checked online that food was being served until 9pm only to be told we stopped serving food at 7pm - really!!! No apology or anything. Won't be rushing back. We made a special journey just to be disappointed.

Unfortunately they weren't doing food this particular day, however I asked if there was a local ice-cream shop so my son could have a treat, there wasn't one open so they let him have one for free from the restaurant so he didn't go without. Not many people like this about anymore. Fantastic. Really appreciated

Set in a lovely town, friendly staff even remembered my order after 2 trips to the bar, nice to see 4 legged friends are allowed.

Stopped for a quick pint on our way home from Chepstow. A great selection of real ales and modern, fashionable A/IPAs. The food menu looks very appealing and will factor this in on our next visit.

My partner and I took the dog for a big country walk and decided to have a light bite at this pub as it was dog friendly. Dog friendly was an understatement. The dog had his own bed, a bowl of water and the staff even come over and showed him some fuss while giving him some biscuits. While the furry friend was slightly pampered we enjoyed some nachos and a fish finger wrap prior to continuing our walk. Highly recommend if you are out and about with your dog.

Fabulous ale house pub with some nice comfortable, dog-friendly rooms above. Parking on street right outside, as long as you leave early. In the middle of Monmouth. Felt good.

Relaxing atmosphere and great pizza

Monmouth town, best pub, Great local and visitors pub.Located at the top of town. Great front yard / square sun trap in the summer. Very welcoming to patrons and their dogs. Pick up a dog cushion by the door on the way in and find a great table to relax with a drink . Food and rooms available. Staff very welcoming.

Called in yesterday for lunch. The place was very warm and welcoming and nice decorated for Christmas. Staff were friendly and service was efficient. I had the lasagne and my partner had the scampi along with a pint each. Food and drink were both excellent and we cleared our plates. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back !

Reasonably priced drinks and bar snacks, tasty Sunday dinner and quickly catered for. Unfortunately no starters offered before Sunday dinner. Toys and games to keep the children occupied.

Nice friendly traditional pub in the centre of Monmouth. Good range of beers on offer, nice warm fire. Traditional pub meals served, fish n chips, scampi, pie, chilli at good prices with decent sized portions. Very friendly polite staff and dogs welcome, water bowls, dog mats and cosy blankets provided.

Dropped in here whilst looking for a bite to eat in Monmouth. Really friendly landlord and landlady. I opted for the curry which was recommended by the landlord. Very tasty, good portion and very reasonably priced. Seemed like a really nice friendly pub. No complaints at all.

Nice evening out with the neighbours for a meal. Disappointing that it wasn't made clear at time of booking that we needed to preorder the Christmas menu. The food that we did have was ok and service was ok.

We had enjoyed lunch so much in this pub in the summer that we decided to return for a birthday celebration today. The service was fantastic again and the fish and chips superb as usual. The beverages on offer are very good and the staff are extremely polite and welcoming. A very central location, convenient for dropping by whilst you are browsing the shops. My family rented a house in Monmouth for the weekend and we ended up walking to the Punch house everyday. Tasha and Vickie along with all the other members of staff were very warm, friendly and welcoming. This was very rare as we actually felt like locals, having only been there the weekend. Great place to eat and drink if your ever in Monmouth!

It’s been 39 years since my husband & I have eaten in this pub. I had been recommended to give the beer battered fish and chips a try as they were supposed to be delicious. We visited this lunchtime and were greeted by a friendly woman behind the bar. Our small dog was welcome too. All three of us ordered the said fish& chips and we were certainly not disappointed. It was piping hot and the fish was exceptional. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly, that delivered our lunch. It’s in a very central location in Monmouth & there are tables outside, should anyone prefer to dine Al fresco. A very tasty lunch and I would recommend.

Congratulations to Vicky and her team at The Punch House. My wife and I went for lunch with members of our extended family and it was a treat. Not only was the food excellent and very good value but Vicky went out of her way to look after one of our party who has problems with eating by making a special trip to a local bakery to find a special cheesecake for her. the Punch house is also very dog friendly and provides water and treats and even supplies doggie beds!!! Amazing. The staff are all friendly and eager to ensure that their customers have a tremendous experience. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a pub visit so much. 11 out of 10. Lady behind bar rude, flipant, condecending and scruffy. She refused to serve food at 2.25pm and commemted "snooze you lose" she then said " sorry, but I'm not really that sorry" My first family visit to Monmouth with 4 adults and 2 children.

Popped in for beers before and after dinner whilst on a golf trip to the area. We were made extremely welcome by the Manageress Vickie, who went out of her way to accommodate us. Great atmosphere and excellent beer..Highly recommend.

We stayed here for one night and had some afternoon drinks but had to go and seek dinner elsewhere as the kitchen was closed. Ditto for breakfast the next morning. This was a pity and not what we were expecting but never mind. The room was ok but it wasn't great finding a pair of pants down the side of the bedside table! Presumably these had escaped the cleaner's eye. The staff for check in and check out were very nice - that's the best thing we can say, really.

This is an amazing hotel, ideally placed for exploring Monmouth and the surrounding area. Full of charm and character. Large room with great bed and good selection of facilities - except for toiletries. Lovely addition of a mini milk bottle, which the staff fill, if you prefer fresh milk over UHT with your tea. Very busy bar downstairs, obviously popular with locals, so expect a lot of noise 'til about eleven - or go join them ! Very helpful, friendly staff - could not fault. No breakfast options when we stated, so can't comment on food. Will definitely be back for a longer stay.

Really friendly staff / owners and made us feel very welcome. Rooms were clean and spacious and just what we needed. They were kind enough to give us two rooms instead of sharing a twin and had a lovely beer in bar.

I arrived at 12-15 PM and was met by Trish, asked for a table for drinks and food, was told 2ish was the earliest I could have a table for food. Was disappointed, but my son arrived afew minutes after me, and said he was starving. We were brought a menu and Trish said she will see what she could do. After a chat my son asked if we could find somewhere to eat, as we were about to finish our drink, we were told they had a table. It was 12-45. We ordered the triple burger and I had the mixed grill. Both were exceptional value for money, and even better that they were still doing the 50% offer. Well worth a visit. I owe them a drink.

Stayed at the punch house 27th to 29th August, the property is ideally located in the centre of Monmouth , we had a friendly welcome on arrival and were taken to the room we had room 10 on the top floor which faced the square there was a bit of road works going on but never caused a problem , the room was nicely furnished and clean , sanitising stations were placed throughout the property which was nice to see, the breakfast was excellent, we found all the staff very friendly and helpful, there is parking close by in a pay as you stay car park it costs £2.40 the later you park there in the night the longer you can stay next morning I think I parked at 1700 and had to be out by 10.30 there is a free car park by the canoe club which has no time limit, it’s a 10 min walk away going back to the punch house I would definitely stay here again and would like to thank the staff for a great time

Just come back from a trip down memory lane and stayed in Monmouth. The last 3 nights we have had the absolute pleasure of dining at the Punch House. The pub/restaurant has changed significantly since I was in my late teens !! It looks fantastic, felt super clean and covid safe which meant a lot to us. The staff were absolutely wonderful and welcomed us with open arms and likkle doggie cuddles . The food was wonderful especially the mixed grill. Thank you for being part of our trip. Highly Recommend

The Punch House is such a Welcoming Pub/Restaurant with cosy and warm Bedrooms! It’s an old Buildung with so much Character and Charm. But what sets it apart from many places are the Staff who are absolutely amazing!!Tasha,Mark and Vickie were absolutely brilliant!!! They were so welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. There is a lovely bar, great beer and good food. They really do make you feel special. We will definitely be returning!! If you fancy a weekend in Monmouth then the Punch House is a must!! It’s the real hub of the Town.

The location is ideal for me as I often stay in Monmouth for work. All the staff I met were lovely, and couldn't do enough for you, without being over the top, which I appreciated. The food was OK. I ate in on my first night and had steak. It was cooked as ordered, which I appreciated, but nothing particularly special. However at the price you couldn't complain. Breakfast was, again, nothing amazing, but done nicely and served with a smile. Unfortunately I did have one major issue and that is the noise, as the windows are single glazed and I was on the front over the main road. It's really quite surprising how much traffic comes through Monmouth at all hours, but believe me I did hear every one, plus customers chatting outside til late.The delivery vans then arrive and unload at 5.30am. I stayed in central London the week before, and I promise you it was quieter! It's not helped by the light pollution, as the curtains aren't good at blocking out the 24hr street lighting. So I'm afraid I really didn't sleep well, and had to buy ear plugs and an eye mask for my second night. I know they will probably say it's due to the age of the building, and while I appreciate you wouldn't or couldn't replace the sash windows, you certainly could put secondary glazing inside them, which would make a huge difference.It's a shame for the staff, as they were lovely and doing their best, and deserve to have a better product to work with; but I'm afraid I won't return until it's had an upgrade.

Stopped off on the way to Cardiff. Called in for lunch and a quick drink. The Welsh faggots rapped in bacon are amazing. It came with mushy peas and mashed potatoes. Not liking mashed potatoes I swapped them out for chips. My partner had the Welsh dragon burger with a choice of sweet potato fries or chips. Both were delicious and presented very well. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Nice traditional pub. Well worth a visit, will definitely be returning next time we are in Monmouth.

Stayed here just after xmas one travelzoo deal, b&b. Nice pub and rooms in the middle of town. Rooms clean and functional. Bed comfy. You do have to find parking though. Nice drinks selection and very reasonably priced. Food good selection and tasty. Breakfast perfect. Staff very friendly, attentive and welcoming. Would recommend

This was our fourth visit to this traditional and most convivial pub. Conveniently located in the centre of Monmouth, close to the River Wye, the Punch House never disappoints with its relaxed atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and an excellent menu catering to all tastes. On the occasions we can all get together, this place continues to be our family's choice to eat out. Here, we find that we are guaranteed to enjoy great food and beer/wine/soft drinks, despite the varied tastes of a child, a teenager, parents, aunt, uncles and grandparents. Looking forward to our next visit!

We stayed just for one night whilst my wife enjoyed a Christmas shopping. The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable and very warm. We enjoyed a beer in the bar and shared a delicious platter of nachos. The staff were very friendly and helpful and after a nice curry in the town we enjoyed a nightcap to finish off a great day.

When this pub has live music on it’s a great place to be but can also be a bit quiet. But we’ll worth calling in.

A family visit, Sunday afternoon.The building, owned by S A Brains, is now two premises combined, but doesn't appear to have been "prettified".However, the Welsh rarebit (x 4) we had was very good - and served with good humour by the bar staff.

Came in here as we couldn’t go in the Wetherspoons opposite with the dog. Glad we did - the breakfast was superb - great quality food and really well priced and the service was fantastic. Definitely give it a try instead of going to the overcrowded Wetherspoons!!

We were staying elsewhere in Monmouth and called in for a quick drink but the welcome was so nice we stayed for hours. We had a wonderfull meal and several local beers, beautiful and very reasonably priced. The staff were fabulous and we laughed from start to finish and they made such a fuss of our dog Poppy, even cooking her sausages. We then visited again on Saturday which was even better and when we left to come home it was like we had visited family, wonderful place thank you.

Sadly the fist was over cooked for both of us and overall we both agreed that the take away we had enjoyed the previous week was a lot better

As we were staying close by in The Forest of Dean for an extended time we were here on 3 occasions . We ate Welsh cuisine each time and loved the local beer and ciders too. Food and drink was.... well ask yourself. We went there 3 times. Staff friendly and helpful.

My girlfriend and I went here for lunch yesterday and was greeted by the lovely and friendly bar staff. I had the Taverners chicken which was so nice. The sauce was unreal. Both meals were delicious, reasonably priced and quick to come from the kitchen.

Went for a cooked lunch which was disappointing. A very meagre portion of chips plus one of the bluntest steak knifes made the steak difficult to eat as could not cut out the gristle which is common in rump steak and was fine itlf the knife worked. As for pudding the sticky toffee was nice but oh so dry who runs out of custard on a lunchtime meal. I would suggest you try eating elsewhere as this was just an adequate meal

Decided to go out for dinner with my son, who was visiting, and his grandparents and just walked in off the street. We were warmly welcomed and ordered our drinks and food which arrived quickly and was delicious, and believe me i have a very "fussy " mother. The puddings were large and simply scrumptious but the icing on the cake was the service. Not only efficient, but very warm and friendly and yes, i know it was quiet but I've been in more than a few quiet places before and its not always been as pleasent. The pub itself may not be as " smart" as some of its neighbours but it has a charm all of its own and suited us. Couldn't fault it and will definitely be back.

We booked a table for five at about 45 minutes notice. On arrival, there was a warm welcome but, looking around, we needn't have booked. The place was nearly empty. 20 minutes late, I was glad we had booked the place soon filled up. The food as very good and the service friendly. If I was to pick fault, it would be the decor. It was tired looking with half painted walls, some clearly undercoat. I guess it was on the brink of a freshen up. We would happily go there again the next tie we're in Monmouth,

Situated right in the heart of Monmouth and with a wide range of drinks and offers. Despite it being really busy, the staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The breakfasts were excellent. Being dog friendly is a real plus. We initially planned our stay for two nights but liked it so much we extended it another night. We look forward to seeing you again.

Visited here every evening during our 3 night stay in this lovely town and was always greeted with a friendly smile by all who served us. Lovely atmosphere, had a good meal and couple of the lovely gins on offer on our second visit! Highly recommended!!

Food poor, small portions. Fish finger sandwich consisted of 3 thin goujons. Cutlery dirty. We've visited 3times before. We won't be back.
