Went here for the buffet breakfast. As far as buffet breakfast goes the food was ok... they are never great... the food is always sat around for a while staying hot... so it was average, as was the choice... what sets this one apart was the staff and the service. They were super friendly and helpful. Great work!

Myself and my husband regularly use this restaurant in Abergavenny. Lovely atmosphere great for parking and friendly service. Tonight for the first time I acquired a problem with my meal. To no fault of their own there was a bone in my steak and ale pie. I spoke to a member of staff who was called Craig who handled the matter quickly and professionally. Looking forward to our next visit. Keep up the good work 👏

Food was good, no surprises and did the job to fuel us on a long journey. The atmosphere was ok, these places are a bit soulless and even though it looks like a pub, it’s not, it is just a reliable and cheap meal out. Staff were ok, although the girl taking my order at the bar was a little inpatient, not rude but not friendly. Overall a good place to stop on a road trip but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.

We stayed as a group of six next door at the Premier Inn & decided to eat at Brewers Fayre. It was Tuesday night around 20.15pm & therefore empty. I ordered Thai Vegetable Curry - when it came it was rice, some sauce, & 3 small pieces of squash, plus frozen peas (accompanied by red wine). The portion size is what I'd expect to serve to a five year old (& I've not got a big appetite). We decided to order dessert but we were told (without notice) at 21.15pm that the kitchen was closed! The staff were nice enough but had no interest in the business and just wanted to go home. It was a terrible meal - if I'd been on my own I would have walked out. Overall 2/10 - & that's generous.

We stayed at the premier inn next door for a few nights and on one of the nights we decided to do the meal deal of dinner and breakfast the next morning. I was disappointed that it was not table service for dinner. You have to queue up at the bar which was very short staffed. One person behind the bar making cocktails whilst also doing the food orders made the wait to order a long time. There must be a better way? The restaurant was very family friendly, meaning it felt like I was having dinner in a school dinner hall. Yes it was school holidays, and yes it was about 6ish but would it not make sense to distribute people accordingly to make sure people can all enjoy their meal? Not looking for silence, I love an atmosphere but the noise was excessive and impacted on our meal. We decided to take our pudding to our room and eat it there instead. The food was below average. Portion sizes were too small and not value for money in my opinion. Breakfast the next day was alright . We didn’t know we needed to book a table as we were not told and this caused some issues but not the hosts fault just a lack of communication between the premier inn and the restaurant on what to tell the guests. Food was as you would expect of you’ve had premier inn breakfast in the past; buffet service. Medium quality and fills a hole. Overall, was just about adequate; not enough to complain but not good enough to go back. The staff are clearly worked off their feet and doing what they can with what they have got. It’s a wider organisation issues which needs to come up with a better plan when staff shortage are an issue.

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from the manager Marcus, the way that he spoke to two elderly ladies yesterday, leaving them both very confused and upset not understanding what they did wrong telling them that they had five minutes to leave the table, when they had only just finished eating and still had drinks left!! He needs to learn to look after his bread and butter customers that dine every week , because he's already lost my custom, he needs to take a step back and look at his business, dirty floors that hadn't been cleaned since breakfast, menus on the floor etc, and this was at opening time!!! It used to be a lovely place to eat, but after what was witnessed yesterday I think that you are an utter disgrace 😡😡

Right, my family & I came here for Father's Day. It was a last-minute booking as the place we were meant to go originally cancelled at the last minute. The only reason I'm giving one star is the disgusting behaviour of the staff, specifically the man that brought our food out. The food was ok, not the best but as it was last minute booking can't say much. I believe we arrived at 8pm and our food came pretty quickly, after eating and having a few drinks. We were then told to hurry up and leave because the place was closed at 9pm, it CLEARLY states on your website the closing time is 11pm and 10:30pm on a Sunday, so why on earth was he asked to leave an hour an half before closing?? We spent over £100 just to be treated like that is disgusting. Will not be coming back

I went here with my family for father's day and what a total mix up it was. We had to change our booking to a later time but upon confirming it, we weren't told the shutting time or changes they had made to the menu for that day. By the time we got there and ordered, there was only little under half an hour to finish the food so I ended up not having anything. My parents overheard some of the staff rudely telling people to leave soon because they had closed. All I wondered was why they would let people in so late if they weren't happy with them finishing their food. The staffs attitude was awful and I won't be returning here for a long time. Horrible service.

Due to stay here after a gig in the castle on the 17th of August. The day before, had a message to say that our room we were due to stay in had been flooded, and no other rooms were available. This had been booked since January, so why it was specifically “our”designated room I have no idea. Multiple attempts at contacting them by phone have failed. No other hotel rooms available in Chepstow at such short notice, and has resulted in us having to book a hotel out of the area and booking taxis there and back, so a lot of extra expense. Highly suspicious and extremely poor customer service. Think twice before booking here folks

As a nostalgic nod to previous hiking trips with buddies past we decided to abandon Symonds Yat for the day and travel to Tintern to take in the Wye Valley Greenway and “earn” a pub lunch to boot. Familiar tactic to tire the dogs so they were well behaved in yet another dog/vegan-friendly hostelry. We parked up mid-morning in The Anchor car park which vies with the Abbey car park nearby for passing traffic. There’s a £5 all day charge which, conveniently for us at least, is refunded against your expenditure in the pub. We chose to walk across the old rail bridge then on the WVG all the way to the, closed in Winter (October to April), rail tunnel which, when open, allows you to yomp all the way to Chepstow. Took a few snaps (excuse the pun) of the crafted crocodile, made of old sleepers and rail joints, then retraced our steps to the Anchor. The pub has the air of a large chain pub; which is not a criticism merely an observation. We plonked ourselves in the Cider Mill Bar which has, as its centrepiece, an old hand pushed apple press. Once again, due to the timing of our visit in a chilly Welsh January, the pub was far from full. The Cider Mill section was ideal for us post-amble with large wooden booths, flagstone floors and its own bar. The dogs got themselves comfortable than I took to the bar, was warmly welcomed then ordered a, now familiar, pint of Wye Valley Butty Bach and a HPA for MrsC. Good vegan choices but we both settled on the bargain that was a hefty jacket spud with a generous topping of 3 bean chilli; a snip in these straitened times and with the refund of the parking fee a spud and a pint came in at a tad over a £10/head. A warm and welcoming hug after a frosty promenade along the old railway track. Service was warm, the atmosphere convivial and the food generous. I’m sure it’s a different picture in the height of a tourist summer but it was a welcome haven after a hearty tramp and fitted the bill perfectly for dog-owning, vegan hikers (they even had Doom Bar zero on draught) Great set-up for its location and seems to have honed its offering to align with the mix of customers they want/need to attract.
