I first visited Sparrow park for drinks with friends. The staff were polite, quick and helpful. There is a great selection of beers, lagers, spirits and cocktails ( my favourite being Beavertown Neck oil) The bar is very clean, spacious and has a lovely roof terrace. I look forward to visiting again. 10/10

The food was excellent service very friendly but entrance for disabled very poor had to go around back of building adjacent bins steep ramp, no ramp on double doors to restaurant had to be lifted over, think breaking the law on disability rules, will not go again until dramatic improvements made ,shame

Been a few times now and the food is always excellent. Proper pies - not slices off a large one or (God forbid) a stew with a puff pastry lid. Also had the sea bass (excellent) and the Japanese one but that seems to have been taken off now. My wife is veggie and has had the pie, burger and Moroccan stew (which unfortunately has also been taken off - a pity as it was really nice). Very good value for money, fantastic chef & great service.

Looking for somewhere for a Sunday lunch and this came up as a recommendation from a friend. I can see why it has so many amazing reviews, you can really tell the chef has a high standard of that “if the chef wouldn’t eat it, why would you serve it to customers” We went as a family, the daughter being a vegetarian, and my 84 year old mother in law, myself and husband. Service with a smile, very friendly and accommodating. My daughter chose the vegetarian lasagna with the remainder opting for the Sunday lunch, a small one, which was fabulous for a smaller appetite, and two regular, which was roast beef and gammon, we chose to have a mixture of the two. The lasagna was amazing, very tasty and full of decent sized veggies. Our Sunday lunch was beautiful which had a great selection of what I call proper vegetables, cooked just right, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, carrots and a roast parsnip with lovely roasties and mash and a Yorkshire pudding, I may add that I’m a gravy swiller for which there was ample for my needs. I dont know how we managed a pudding but the selection was good and were tempted by the apple pie, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake. They were all delicious but the piece de resistance was the apple pie, in all his years, my hubby said that he’d not had a better apple pie anywhere, and he’s had a few around the world. Will definitely return as the whole meal was super delicious, very hearty and such a great price. Thanks so much for your fantastic food

1) The cheeks to charge for WATER! 2) Carvery supposedly starts at 12, we came in at 12 and had to wait until a table of 10 got their food before us. We ended up waiting until 13:20 to get our food. Pub clearly isn't run correctly. Not to mention we got the smallest amount of meat on our carveries. Not coming here for a family meal again. *Edit* response to owner's comment: 1) you have to let your customers know you are charging for water OR give them the choice of free tap water. Common sense. 2) we came at 12... the food should have been ready at 12 not 1. And no, you were not in the process of topping the veg up because no one had had their carveries until 1. I am a regular at this pub and I enjoy coming here but today I was disappointed. Especially after hearing that the staff member who served me was bad mouthing about me to customers sat at the bar.

Fabulous food, all freshly cooked, amazing oatcakes, breakfasts, omelettes and much more. Very reasonably priced, the only place I know where you can set a coffee under £2. Brilliant

Last time I was here it was a good country pub with good food. It's now up for sale by Marstons. The only food on offer is soup or sandwich. The village seems to be dying and it's a shame the pub is on hard times-hope it gets sold to a good operator

We were staying at the nearby Longnor caravan park, we’d been hiking all day, and stopped off at the Cheshire cheese inn, on a Friday at 7pm, We asked if they had a table for two and they said give us 5 mins and we’ll sort one for you. And they did! The menu was incredible, all the things you see on usual pub menu’s but when it came out it was double the size, and triple the taste of anywhere we’ve ever been, for the same if not if not less than we pay! Never met staff so friendly and accommodating as them! We love to travel and explore, and as we do, we find places we love to, stay, experience, and find somewhere that does good food! We can honestly say that we would and will travel up from Conwy north wales for a hike in the peaks and book to come and have food here every time! Thank you all for your friendly hospitality for two weary hikers from the Welshlands ❤️

This is a great spot, being able to sit by the water is great to enjoy your treats you've brought and got from the cafe. staff were lovely and service was great, there's a minimum card spend of £5 but don't worry you'll hit it, as I felt it was a bit on the expensive side, however the sandwiches they made were lovely, and it is really the only place to go once you've been to wetton hill and Thors cave. x2 solero Ice Creams cost around £5/£6 and x2 sandwiches and x2 bottles of pop cost about £13 ish however I wouldn't let this takeaway from the experience as it was really lovely and a great place to come to. I would definitely recommend it! Also if you have been to Thors Cave and have gotten a little mucky you can wash your hands and so on in the toilets just out the front of the cafe which was a big lifesaver.
