Won't be returning. Meals not very good sorry

Absolute perfection! Large group booking for a birthday celebration, the food is just amazing, from the menu selections to the portion sizes, and the quality and taste is just beautiful. All served promptly, piping hot and the service of every staff member, so friendly, polite and helpful. So lucky to have on our doorstep. Thank you all so much for making it the best afternoon to celebrate.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch here as a large family group. The food was excellent and the service was efficient, friendly and courteous. With 7 adults and 8 children there and not a single complaint we were all very happy. We can highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding!

We have visited the pub recently on several occasions and the food always exceeds expectations. The range of food on offer is well above average and not expensive. In addition to pub classics, (fish and chips with the best batter I have ever tasted) the chef is pushing the boundaries with more imaginative options such as venison burgers and fresh sardines etc. I highly recommend the goat cheese starter. The attention to detail and presentation is reminiscent of a high-end restaurant. The pub has a great friendly atmosphere and the staff and chef go out of their way to engage with customers. I think this pub will go from strength to strength.

We had a gorgeous meal. No complaints from any of the family. Really lovely atmosphere. My son had 2 portions of sausages as "they were the best he'd ever eaten!" Home made cheesecake was amazing. Would definitely recommend.

I ordered one of the specials. Now I have to say this needs to go on the menu full time!!!! I had the Pork Tomahawk with a herb crusted topping, apple puree, Sautéed potatoes, thatcher cider onions, wilted spinach & a wild mushroom and Stilton sauce with crackling. Honestly it was insanely good, potentially one of the nicest things I have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection, top marks to the chef. My mrs steak was cooked perfectly and she said that was amazing also, she is very fussy about her steaks and to keep her happy is nothing short of a miracle. Please make that Tomahawk a main menu item. I might start a petition 😂 P.S I put £30-£40 per head as I included starters and drinks in the cost.

We’ve been visiting Top Pub for 7+ years since moving to the area and since the current owners took over the food is the best it’s ever been! The Sunday roasts are the best we’ve had, really good portions and really good quality and flavour. We’ve tried the lunch menu too which is also excellent and my son loves the kids mac and cheese (with a side of cheesy garlic bread!). Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Staff always very friendly and accommodating too!

Been to the top pub a couple of times now and tried different selections from the menu. Had the Sunday lunch today and have to say the food was impeccable and the service was excellent! Shout to the chef and the two lovely ladies working the bar, nothing was too much trouble for them. Will definitely be returning to try out some of the specials on offer.

Well, what can I say! Again excellent food and service… plus they also serve my favourite Chardonnay… buttery Chardonnay yum 😋

We held my mums 70th birthday, 20 in total what a fabulous meal, the service was impeccable, the food was absolutely gorgeous everyone had the best time. Last minute I asked for some decorations to be put up and nothing was too much trouble!! Highly recommend this place the staff are pleasant and welcoming it deserves more than 5 stars, thank you from a very happy customer, we will be back

Called at the last minute for a meal. The pub was quiet but service was friendly and quick. Had a few personal requests that I needed from the menu and they were more than happy to cater for them. The food came out hot and fresh and very tasty. Would definitely return

The food was absolutely amazing. Danny made sure all our dietary needs were catered for. The dog loved his treats too. Everyone was so helpful. It was very chilled with lots of people popping in for a drink whilst out walking.

We came last week for a dinner date (something we don’t have very often with having three kiddies) it was super quiet and the food was some of the best we’ve had in a long time . The calamari was amazing and was really fresh . Everything about it was delightful , so much so we’re going back tonight . Thanks for lovely food

We have eaten at the Top Pub a number of times in the evening, during the week, and it has always been top notch. We thought that we would try a traditional Sunday lunch, hoping that the standard would be just as good. We were not disappointed, service exceptional, cheerful, polite and nothing was too much trouble. The food outstanding, as always. Sunday lunch is now sorted for the foreseeable future 👌.

After a lengthy absence from the pub, Myself, my 3 year old and my wife popped in for lunch for my birthday. The new owner was very welcoming, and was enthusiastic about the pubs lovely new menu. When our food arrived it was amazing - Easily, the best sandwich in town! We shared our Steak and chicken club sandwiches and it was experience definitely fit for a birthday lunch! The prices, quality and deals on offer will definitely lure us back. So glad to see this pub returning to its former glory! See you soon guys! Spiderman says thanks! Lol

We celebrated my 70th Birthday here. We had full use of the marquee and could bring our own music. We had been and discussed the buffet with the chef. It was amazing and plenty of it including jam sandwiches for the kids. Homemade sausage rolls,and quiche. The puddings were amazing and again homemade. The staff did a great job too. Definitely would recommend if you wanted a venue for a party l would recommend The Top Pub M

They recently hosted a private event for 40ish people. The food was excellent, great selection and they added a few special requests. The overall service on the day was great and they couldn't do enough for you. Overall really enjoyed it and they were great hosts

Went for a meal for a birthday and I was so impressed. The staff were very attentive but not over baring, the decor was welcoming, giving it a friendly atmosphere. The food was top end restaurant quality at pub prices will definitely be going again soon. Highly recommend the top pub.

Booked in the Top Pub for my daughter’s birthday celebrating with family about 18 of us including children. It’s the first time we’ve been here and it definitely won’t be the last. Ther service and food was excellent. With lovely surroundings and a big beer garden at the back, I would highly recommend this family and dog friendly pub.

Wonderful service and great food

Well… I am amazed! This pub has had a change in chefs since Covid, some great, however, we went tonight, a Monday, they are open for food 7 nights a week!, the menu was brilliant and the food was amazing, my partner had the pie, a proper pie!, I had the katsu curry, both amazing ! We then shared a churro desert that was to die for !!❤️

Really EXCELLENT food served ALL WEEK. Cannot fault the beer, the food 😋, the friendly service. Seriously, we had THE MOST beautiful meals this evening. Get yourself up here and sample a little slice of the good life! 5 ⭐ all round.

I have been to many a country pub but this one is my No1, food excellent, service cannot fault polite and engaging, atmosphere quaint and the standard of hygiene was terrific. I heartily recommend this pub to anyone one a drive out.

This place gets full marks. Been there a couple of times but it is under new management and it was a super enjoyable experience. The menu was great and the new specials were great. Food tasted fantastic ans most importantly the staff were super friendly which makes it. You weren't rushed out the door and there was outside seating as well. Really good summer day spot, it was so good I only managed clip the one pic of a dessert I had because i was having such a good time. It's accessible to disabled individuals and plenty of parking and for me its plus size friendly ☺️ The only downside for me of the whole meal was the windows were open as it was a hot day and cuz we were by a window we could smell smokers from somewhere close outside which can be off putting when ur trying enjoy a meal and can't really smell your food. Obviously you cant control people walking past but it lingered for quite sometime so I don't think it was someone passing and was being used as a smoking spot. Next time I would probably ask for a none window seating :) For reference I had a burger which was fantastic and the below dessert of Eat n mess 🤤

We had an overnight stay in our campervan at the Top Pub in Brown Edge.Megan was ever so homely and welcoming,as was the bar area.We managed a very good night's sleep in peaceful surroundings.Well worth a visit.Thank you.

We were on holiday with 4 other couples, and lucky enough to be renting a house for one week right next to the Top Pub. It is a very friendly pub with a good range of cask beers, wines and spirits. We booked a table for 10 for our last night, and the food was superb. There’s a good basic menu of main courses and lighter bites, plus daily specials -all very good value. Between us all we enjoyed smoked haddock scotch eggs, home made soup, grilled sea bass fillets, lamb rump with mini shepherd’s pie, and top notch haddock, chips and minted peas. Desserts were a stunningly presented Eton Mess, luscious Custard Pie with home made ice cream, and an After Eight cheesecake. We had a lovely night, well done the Top Pub. Seek it out!!

A lovely meal at The Top Pub was the best way to finish our weekend. Danny and the team were very welcoming and attended to our every need. We chose the fish and chips and burger. The batter was light and the burger clearly homemade. The desserts were equally as tasty. Overall, a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price. We are looking forwards to returning soon.

We were in the area so called on a bank holiday ordered of the small menu. Expected the pub to be larger for some reason, food nice, just enough, batter on the fish lovley. Good selection of drinks, I had the dark mild, just ok, not a very good head on it tho'. Not many small one room pubs about anymore, homely, friendly staff, would call again if in area, bit way out for us. Nice.

Never disappoints, just had lunch here with my family. It was absolutely gorgeous. You can tell the food is cooked fresh, it’s presented so well too. The staff are always friendly, personable and warm. Loving the new look menu too, it’s varied. So nice to have a local where you can pop in and it feels welcoming. Thank you.

We popped into here after a walk last week and the food we had was delicious (one of their homemade pies and a steak sandwich) The bar lady was friendly and the service was very quick!

Just back from top pub, we walked up and were greeted by lovely and friendly staff and a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. We went straight in for main meals, I had the fish of the day which was seabass, it was such a nice dish. My hubby had katsu chicken, loved it and commented on what a good hearty portion it was and my daughter had the chicken burger (which looked tremendous for the none dieters). All homecooked, well priced. Will defo go back.. thank you for a very pleasant few hours.. 👍👌

What can I say!.. This was the greatest meal that I've ever had. I ordered the 'Carpetbagger' and it was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and every bite was a joy. The beer was absolutely top notch. We sat by the fire and enjoyed a game of cards to some fantastically varied music. The food came out promptly and the service was friendly, relaxed and homely. Please, please, don't come here...I want to keep it all to myself. Good work, staff, you've raised the bar of my expectations. x

Just got home from a fantastic meal both my starter of Irish potato and black Pudding and then my main of Lamb Roast Sunday dinner were both outstanding in quality, taste and presentation. My partner had Carrot and coriander soup served with butter bread and then also a beef and chicken roast dinner. The food was excellent the staff friendly and helpful and a nice atmosphere and even found us a table at a busy time. Cannot rate them highly enough and also very dog Friendly

Had a meal here with friends earlier today. What an absolute treat, had the specials and it was some of the best food we’ve had, with a super homely atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we didn’t want to come home. Brilliant !

Beautiful clean place, amazing food! Dan and staff very welcoming, will definitely be back. The portions size was too big for me, I will choose a smaller plate option or only have a main next visit. I was full after a starter and half my main, but both my starter and main was absolutely delicious! I didn’t want to leave any food but I just couldn’t fit it in! Thank you Dan!

We came for Sunday Dinner first time in a while , party of 7. Staff were friendly and efficient and Dan the Owner/Chef was extremely accommodating. Food was excellent will definitely return.

Our small walking group parked here, did our walk and came in for lunch. It was excellent. The chef came out to discuss with our gluten free friend what she could have and made sure she was accommodated. Very attentive staff, it was all very good and we will be back. And dog friendly too!

The Top Pub is only a few miles away from the beautiful knypersley reservoir. We had a lovely walk around the lake then popped into the "top pub" for a little bit of food. This buisness has just been taken over by new owners and you really can tell. We placed ourselves near to the lovely log burner in a very spacious corner. The room was open plan with plenty of light. The food was beautifully presented and the taste amazing. There's a good selection of lagers, local ales and wines available which is a great addition to the previous set up. Parking was more than adequate and the views are amazing. I can't wait for the good weather to return so we can make the most of the outdoor seating area. If you are looking for excellent food at affordable prices in a location that is just off the beaten track, then this has to be your first choice. Or if this is somewhere you have previously been to before 2024 then you need to go back to see and sample the amazing changes. Congratulations to the new owners for turning this buisness around in such a short time.

We all had a Sunday roast which was absolutely amazing! The plate was presented well and needed no seasoning whatsoever, from super fresh greens to amazing roast potatoes and parsnips, with a Yorkshire pudding to die for. We will be back.

Visited earlier this week for a meal. Service through out was friendly and professional. Food was spot on, not fast food but for food freshly cooked to order it arrived in a timely manner. Dessert was amazing. Sticky toffee pudding with more syrup than anyone could ask for was fantastic. Highly recommend to anyone in the area wishing to have a filling tasty meal in a relaxed comfortable environment.

Called in last minute for a spot of lunch after hearing it has been took over. Food was absolutely out of this world and the prices have also altered to a perfect price for the quality of the food. Service was spot on and not to rushed or delayed. Absolutely spot on little country pub with great service food will be coming back for more.

13 of us came for food and all of it was brilliant! The beef dinner was amazing and the kids meals were really tasty too. Great staff great service! Would definitely recommend.

Went for Sunday roast..food was beautiful could not fault it...

We live a few minutes walk from this pub and we are delighted that the chef has changed this place around already after just over a week. Each time we have been in the fire has been going and a steady flow of food coming out of the kitchen. We ate here last night. We both opted for the T bone steak with all the trimmings, the steaks was cooked to perfection. We have booked in for valentines night and i know we will not be disapointed.

Superb food, great ambience and lovely people. Owner took time out to have a chat. Well worth a visit and we'll definitely be back without a shadow of a doubt.

Lovely dog friendly pub with delicious food at a good price. We both had delicious steak sandwiches and soup of the day after a long walk around Knypersley Reservoir.

Absolutely incredible place! Gorgeous crackling log burner, dogs welcome (and there’s a doggie Menu!). Our food was 10/10… I honestly cannot fault one element of it… The food is home cooked, with pride and love. Daniel, the owner, takes immense care, with his team, to prepare and deliver exquisite food. For those who have allergies, Daniel immediately advised that they can be catered for. Two of our party have Coeliac disease and so need to have a gluten free diet. This was no problem at all - it was so refreshing! We live in Birmingham and will 100% be travelling back to The Top Pub for another meal very soon.

What a fantastic pub. We had my mums 80th birthday meal on New Year’s Eve lunch, 30 of us and everything was amazing . The food was perfectly cooked, homemade and everything was hot. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating nothing was too much trouble . The portion sizes were perfect so you could enjoy each course, the atmosphere was lovely country pub with a log burner and friendly locals. Would highly recommend.

What an absolute gem of a place, if you’re looking for an honest review then believe me when I say the food is impeccable, Dan the chef is so welcoming and helpful and cooks up the best food, fresh, full of flavour and the best quality you can imagine, we have had the best meal here tonight, the nicest food we have ever had, the lamb is to die for, if you haven’t been or are thinking about visiting I would say BOOK IT, you will not regret it, so much effort is put into every dish and you can really tell, I’m not one to write reviews usually but I have to give so much credit to the wonderful staff, chef and food at the top pub one of the best places I have ever eaten at, thank you so much to the top pub and Dan, we will be returning soon ❤️

Great village pub, with fab food.

Food was once again excellent. Presented nicely and only a small ordering error and a sticky table stops me giving 5 stars. The room was a bit chilly, if the fire had been lit it would've made it much better. Will defo visit again and try a different meal. I hope there's ox liver as a choice!

We’ve been going here for some time now and the food has always been amazing. The chef that started recently has really taken this to the next level. The menu is fantastic and currently they are doing themed weeks. This week was curry and it was just outstanding. I’m also not a big desert fan, but I heard the head chef has won awards for his deserts. So I gave it a go and it did not disappoint. So much so that I can’t wait to try another desert! The ale here is always fresh and not overly priced. During colder months the fire is on which really adds to the atmosphere of a country pub. We’ve been going to the Top Pub for over a year and the staff have always been lovely, which makes for a great welcome and great service. Would highly recommend the Top Pub for lengthy meals, or even quick bites. The views are also stunning!

Pie night... I'm not usually one to pick out a pie from a menu but we turned up and it was 'pie night' (full menu also available but today's specials were pies). My pet hate with pub pies is the nuclear hot potted pie with a pastry 'lid'; burned mouth if you eat it from the pot, burned fingers if you try to tip it out. This however, was a proper, tall, round, lovingly produced home-made pie! Filled with big chunks of lean lamb and oozing with minted gravy. I don't know what kind of pastry it was but it's quite thin and rigid, didn't turn to mush with the gravy, had really nice 'bite' and tasted just great. Good, crispy chips and beautiful veg completed a dish for a king! Add in a pint of their gorgeous Citra and my little world was complete. Oh, and two meals, two pints, two large Chardonnay all for £45... No complaints at all!

Wow! What an amazing place to visit! I visited with my mum during lunch time after hearing great things and we were not disappointed! Exceptional service from start to finish, with the opportunity to discuss the new menu with the chef (who was fantastic)! We ate off the lunch menu having scampi and the steak sandwich! Delicious, home cooked food that had been prepared to perfection! The tartar sauce was amazing as were the onion fritters! We will absolutely be returning! The lady behind the bar was wonderful too; knowledgeable and she created a great atmosphere! We loved it!!!

Visited at lunchtime with a local. Lovely pub with a roaring fire. Beer is good to superbly kept. Oakham Citra is a highlight. Food is freshly cooked and well presented. Quantities are very adequate for most appetites. The lamb is gorgeous and falls off the bone. Welcome for all, walkers, cyclists, dog walkers. Bar staff are so friendly and the chef superb.
