Visited on Saturday 23rd November. Beautiful setting. Lovely vibrant atmosphere inside. Classic Victoria Sponge was ok. Mediocre. Looked better than it tasted. For £4.95 a slice, hoped for more though. Coffee was absolutely rubbish :-( Really disappointing. Very weak and mainly froth. Cappuccino should have a creme yes but it shouldn't be frothy....and there was seemingly virtually no actual coffee underneath. I had oat milk but that shouldn't make a difference. We were going to go back the following day, but decided against it. For three of us to have a drink and cake with not much change from £30.00, we wanted just a straight forward decent cup of coffee. I don't mind 'complaining' and asking for another cuppa...but I truly thought it would be exactly the same, so didn't bother. Also, didn't want to put a downer on our girls' visit. Such a shame. Invest in some barista training and this place would be truly great. Sorry to leave a negative review....but it's honest.

Great Sunday stop off to avoid the rain - but what an amazing find! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who gave us a very warm welcome! Tried their new speciality - cinnamon swirls - worth making a special journey there for! Fully recommend Hetty’s for afternoon tea - whether the weather is warm enough to sit outside, or cool enough to make you seek shelter inside! You will not be disappointed with this little Gem!

When I have visitors I take them to Hetty's. It's local and friends are usually impressed. However, yesterday we were not at all impressed. My Canadian friend was on a visit. We wanted a light lunch before picking the grandchildren up from school. First of all, there was a lack of menus and we had to go looking for one. Then, we stood for a long time in an extremely long queue to order. When we got to the till we were told it was a 45 minute wait on food! By then, after standing in the queue for 25 minutes it was too late to change plans so, we took the risk. At 10 to 2 we ordered sandwiches and soup.We thought if we had the food by 2.30 we'd be ok. At 3 o'clock we were still waiting!! How long can it take to make sandwiches and put soup in a bowl? We eventually had to leave and asked for the order to be cancelled. Our money was returned but no real explanation for the unacceptable delay was given. Hetty's, I think you need to reconsider your system. If there's a delay on food, put a sign up saying so, then people can choose to queue or not.The queueing, in such a tiny space, causes difficulties for staff passing with trays and customers with their drinks trays. It stops people from being able to view the beautiful cakes in the cabinets and being able to see the specials board. I wanted the beef but when I asked for it was told they didn't have any! Take it off the board then! All in all, a very poor experience. I felt sorry for the staff who were trying their best.

Read the positive reviews and decided to cycle 20km along the canal to try this establishment. To be honest it was underwhelming. Ordered a luxury high tea but with no scones left (and it was only 1.30pm) I opted for a brownie replacement. In hindsight without having the clotted cream and jam I actually think I’d have saved some money by ordering the items separately but after spending at leat 20 mins queuing to order and with many people still waiting to order and also the prospect of at least a 30 min wait for the food, I sort of made a snap decision. The tuna/red onion sandwich was okay but no better than a regular supermarket version. The brownie was more like a vaguely chocolate flavoured sponge with a not very chocolatey topping. A side order of chips turned out to be a small dish of frozen fries which at £4.25 and based upon the portion, wasn't great value. A salad garnish and a few crisps complemented the high tea. The americano was decent enough and in a good sized mug but all in all not the best cafe experience I’ve ever had and doubt I’ll be cycling back along the canal again.

Apple crumble scone with jam and cream; who’d of thought it could be so so tasty. Highly recommend this place. We will certainly be back; probably in the car as it takes too long by Narrowboat. Twenty one minute wait in a queue that's forced into paying absolutely ridiculously over priced items. £3 I paid for a can of 7up which I was asked if I would like it poured into a glass to hide the fact that the cans clearly say on the side only to be sold as part of a multipack, very dishonest in my opinion and scandalous. The staff were painfully slow at serving, taking orders and handling cash seemed difficult for them, doing things in the wrong order of fashion

I was feeling a little worse for wear after 140km and decided to take my leave and enjoy a tasty coffee. The lovely ladies serving me were so kind as to charge my electronics and replenish my water supply all whilst I rested my weary legs. When it came time to leave, the kindly staff member (I was rude not to ask her name) offered me a delicious scone and a cream egg, both of which I enjoyed enormously in 'thors cave' a few kilometers down the road. So there and then we decided to go. Spur of the momment type of day. We did the scentic route and it took over 2 hours to get there. Seeing beautiful english country side and the sun even made an appearance. We arrived and even thou it was busy we managed to find a table. Beautifully decorated and inviting. My son ordered pizza and fries and myself and my husband high tea , comprised of a sandwiches or your choosing, crisps, salad and scone and jam/cream. A little bit of a wait for food due to it been extremely busy but it was worth the wait. The staff are lovely, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was beautifully presented and the cakes were delightful. Home made goodness on a plate. A lovely stop off. Hi , we came for Mothers Day , the food and cakes were lovely and the staff were very friendly especially a lady with blonde hair , didn’t get her name . The downside was we were squashed in a corner with a tiny table suitable for 2 but there were 4 of us and my husband is over 6ft tall. Whilst we were eating one of the staff needed the card machine which was on the window sill behind us so myself and my husband had to stand up and move out of the way so that she could retrieve it . After eating we ordered dessert which were delicious but no one came to take our plates from the first course so we had to move them ourselves and put them on a table next to us ….as this was a treat for Mothers Day it spoilt it for us really …. a shame really as the food really is excellent .

Proscecco was ordered and we were told no large bottles were available so had to settle for 4 small ones. The food arrived which was average and the glasses arrived all streaky and dirty, the next ones arrived which were slightly better, did not want to spoil the atmosphere so just accepted them. Each person is doing individual orders, then making drinks etc which makes for such a long queue.
