We stopped here after our visit to Alton towers for Sunday lunch for my FIL 70th the majority of our party had the carvery the others had pizza, we all enjoyed and found the staff & customers friendly and accommodating, a few of our party were vegetarian and also do not eat beef and as the gravy contained beef they made us a vegetarian gravy as well. Have not had a decent roast for a well and we all really enjoyed.

I was recently treated to a delicious Sunday lunch at The Talbot. It’s served carvery style which is great. You can have a standard or a large meal, I had a standard size which was ample. There were two meats available; turkey I think and roast beef. My choice was well cooked roast beef with wonderful homemade Yorkshire pudding. ( if they had been shop bought I wouldn’t have considered having one) there was a good choice of vegetables and plenty of proper gravy too. I couldn’t fault the food at all 😋😋😋😋. I noticed people were also enjoying made to order pizzas if a roast dinner wasn’t their thing. Maybe I’ll give one of those a try next time.. There’s a lovely atmosphere in the Talbot, lots of regulars but visitors are most welcome, its a great stop off if you’re out for a walk

Stopped by yesterday and definitely made the right choice. Food was a lot better than the overpriced stuff we were getting at Alton Towers and everyone was friendly, even the ladies who came by with their horses (in the rain!) and gave us a good laugh. Pizzas were great - not too thick and came out steaming hot. Service was pretty slow but they did tell us there was a wait - place was packed and we were lucky to even get a table so not surprised. Will be coming back on our next Towers trip!

I have never written a review before, however the food and treatment I received here was so horrible that it warrants it. We chose to come to this pub on the way back from alton towers. We had hoped to go to the neighbouring pub which looked lovely, however it was fully booked and we ended up here instead, unfortunately. We opted for some pizzas, which the menus claim are "prepared fresh to order using authentic italian pizza bases with our own in-house pizza sauce and fresh toppings". We were excited to see that gluten-free pizza bases were available on request as two of us cannot eat gluten. Upon ordering we were told that the gluten-free pizzas were only available in margherita and pepperoni, despite all of the toppings offered on the menu being naturally gluten free. When the pizzas came out, it was apparent that they were just (goodfellas £3) pizzas from a supermarket freezer aisle. This was upsetting having paid £14 per pizza, when we could have done the same for much cheaper and no effort. When we tried to discuss this with the manager we were treated very rudely, and were lied to with a story which kept changing. We tried to explain why were upset respectfully, however we were met with hostility and rudeness from the onset of the conversation. At one point the manager told my 20 year old brother that he shouldn't be speaking to a woman of her age as he was - she was clearly picking on him because he looked youngest, as he had done nothing wrong. From this point on a conversation wasn't possible as she repeatedly told us to leave her pub. It was very upsetting to be treated with such a horrible attitude and definitely put a dampener on our day out. The normal (gluten-containing) pizzas looked incredibly dry and my mum was unable to eat it all - frankly it looked worse than my gluten-free one. From looking at other reviews, I can see that we are not the only people who have found the pizzas here so unenjoyable. From the attitude of the manager, I don't see this changing any time soon

We seemed to experience a combination of all the negative reviews, car parking limited, found a table outside as it was a lovely day, a fair walk up the garden, cross the road and then a bit more to order food at the bar, website said open, it was 4.55 food not available to order until 5. Walk back down to table with drinks, walk back up to order food 5.02 they said will just have to check, eventually able to order food, given beeper to come back for it when ready, walk back out to table, beeper goes off immediately, walk back up, pie of the day not available, fed up of walking up and down decide to sit inside, the smell of soot from the fireplace horrible. Food brought in boxes despite them knowing we were eating in now. Won’t be going back, very limited expensive menu.

Came here for dinner while staying at the Alton Towers hotel, lovely cosy little pub with a beautiful garden just down the road from the park. Parking bit of a nightmare if it’s busy but the food was delicious. We both had a pepperoni pizza and it was very good, would come again.

On a cold and miserable Monday evening we visited the very welcoming Talbot. We were greeted by a roaring fire in each room so off came the big coats and we settled down to order our food. Monday is “Pie night” . We were in for a real treat😋. The homemade pies are super delicious. They are the “pie in a dish” type of pie which isn’t usually my favourite. But on this occasion it means that you can choose your preferred topping, now that is unusual. Toppings include different types of pastry and potato. I wish I’d taken more notice but I just went the puff pastry which was nice. The filling which all three of us chose was the venison, this was very well cooked and perfectly seasoned. There’s a choice of what to have with your pie, which includes various potato offerings, two of us had the Proper homemade chips and one the freshly made mash. Along side this we had a dish of fresh veg which was also cooked to perfection. So often nowadays the vegetables are under cooked but not on this occasion. We highly recommend this little pub, a lovely welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff too

Absolutely appalling. £18 for fish & chips served in a cardboard box! We sat inside but we were served our food not on plates but in cardboard?! Stale and inedible. Chips hard and old, fish black. Peas- no words. Horrific. To be charged for this food is absolutely unbelievable. The food was ready for the bin. Shocked and appalled to say the very least. Totally unfair & unacceptable to serve this food. Proof in pictures. I cut into the rotten fish to show how disgusting it was. Look at the shrivelled up chips!!! Never again. Lovely setting but horrific food. Should be ashamed to serve this. Never returning & told our family and friends the same. Be warned. Terrible experience.

We booked in on the tea for two. I called back a few days later to ask for my tea for two to be gluten free (I'm Ceoliac) The receptionist informed me that my meal would be an extra £5. I have never been charged extra for an allergy. Having a gluten intolerance is a disease, wonder if you're charged extra for a vegan option? I won't be visiting. I cancelled the tea.
