We stopped here for a meal after day out at Alton towers. Menu had lots of choice. Staff were really friendly. We all enjoyed our meals. Big portions.

Had the fish & chips for £4.50 at lunchtime Fish quite nice - ate it all but chips not great tasting really - left some on the plate. Peas okay and salad garnish nice. Okay for 4.50 and no more

Nice place not the cheapest but the chips are horrible fat big crunchy not for children and certainly not for anyone with false teeth no veg through the week ither but if they offered fries would have being nice

We had a light lunch and a coffee each. Light lunch menu has about 10 choices from fish and chips to chicken supreme. Didn't take long and was really hot. Tasty and plenty for a light lunch. Bill came to £13 for the two of us. Light lunches all £4.50. recommended by us

Fabulous gluten-free meal. The menu isn't marked as gluten-free, but I asked at the bar, and they said most things are or could be made gluten-free. They have a separate fryer for chips. Will definitely be returning.

The food is absolutely beautiful 😍 my only complaint is the portion sizes. had a 10oz steak with chips peas and salad also Diane sauce. Followed by choc fudge cake and cream for pud .and was still hungry. My partner had the hunters chicken mixed grill with cheese cake for pud and he felt the same .the sizes need to be slightly bigger .

This place is AMAZING! If you are staying at Alton Towers, don't pay £20 for a mediocre burger at their restaurant. Instead, come to this place where you will be greeted with friendly staff, great food and value for money!! And it's only 20 mins drive from the resort.

Having visited for the last two Friday lunchtimes I can only say that the meals were of excellent quality and value for money. More than ample quantity and very well presented by lovely staff. We now consider it to be a GO-TO place

We have been coming here for years but tonight was awful,we waited over an hour for our food, when it came, one of our orders was wrong and the gentleman serving said it was us that had ordered wrong, we then had to wait again for his correct order, food is always lovely to be fair but absolutely gutted with the service tonight.

Went in for a meal under new management hmm not impressed needs a,good clean. Food was below average over £40 for 2 meals Tinned peas powdered potato Never seen square chicken before with a sauce that's obviously come from a packet and thrown in the microwave Used to go along but not any more .gone down the toilet

Visited today with my dad as he recommends this place never been before. Staff behind the bar a young lady very polite and really good service. I dont even know what to say about the food everything was perfect! Will start using this place more often thats for sure highly recommend to anyone.

The young lad who served us was brilliant. Really polite and attentive. However the food was atrocious. Two steaks ordered both medium rare, one came well done and the other blue. It says something when even the kids left their food! We wanted to give this place one last chance due to new management, we will never return

Only discovered this place recently, and been twice within a few weeks, lol. Food is delicious, can't fault it. Piping hot and very tasty. Excellent value, too, and very affordable. With their very friendly team, too, what's not to like. Get yourselves here !

Food was lovely, service at the bar was a little slow but only one person was on shift so I imagine that was why. Food is excellent as always with a great choice on the carvery.

This place has recently had a change of management but Sometimes, a change in management isn't a good thing. I would advise against spending your money at this establishment. During my visit, the bartender seemed disinterested in answering any questions I had about the menu. In fact, any sort of conversation with the staff member seemed difficult. Unfortunately, the steaks my party and I ordered were nothing special. The sides were also far from fresh. Additionally, the steaks were served on old, stainless steel oval trays that had clearly seen better days. This is very sad as it’s so local to us and we used to like going here as the food was lovely but have things have changed :-(. we went for my birthday and I left feeling quite disappointed! I didn’t even want to spend the money on another drink as I felt the atmosphere was awful! So we left and won’t be returning any time soon or be recommending to others !

Family meal. Visited this pub last night for a family meal (5 children and 8 adults) Lady behind the bar very good and efficient, fast service Food: hot, pub grub at a good price. Service: Fast, with very polite staff. Waiting on staff , checked everything was ok. All areas clean. Parking. Yes we parked 1 x 4x4 and 3 cars without any issues, Any issues. Not been for a while but saw under new management so thought we'd give it a try. Menu had been simplified. 2 meals for £9 and desserts £2 each. Winner. Tables always used to be sticky but now clean. Decor is still tired but the full change of management was still ongoing so hopefully a full revamp is on the cards when it's finalised. Service was great and the meal was great value for a quick lunch. Could be a goldmine if run properly. Big conservatory and large car park at rear, so great potential. The signs are very good for revitalisation but we'll see. Well done so far!!

What a disappointment. Have been here a few times in the past and the place has gone massively down bank. On trying to previously book we were told there was no need and I can see why. On arriving as a group of 10 with 3 children the man told us which tables to put together and stood there watching. We even drove past the place twice as it looked as though it wasn’t open. The glasses we had drinks in were dirty. There were no hot drinks available. Could not pay on a tab which made things difficult. The owner was rude and spoke to me as though I was thick. The whole place is dirty and run down. The chap serving was extremely slow. The child’s pizza was thick and burnt so my son couldn’t eat it (no wonder you have to pay first) and the land shank was dry and chewy not even fit for a dog. The smoking area was un-lit and had no heater. The car park is dark and full of pot holes. The waitresses were miserable and also rude. One of the waitresses told one of the children to ‘move’ as she wanted to put something down but he wasn’t aware she was there as he was looking the other way. Did not feel welcome and would not eat here again even if someone paid me. Shocking place.

Oh dear, where to start? Lot's of potential in this wonderful building but that's where my positives end sadly. The car park is like a Beirut bomb site, the welcome, Luke warm at best. My pint was dubious and I left most of it, I should have had it changed but we were celebrating a family birthday and I didn't want to cause any angst. My wife asked the bar man if he would light the laid log fire or turn the heating on as it was very cool where we were sitting. He bluntly said no. The food, whilst looking terrific value on the menu, was only just warm and served by a less than interested waitress. The food took so long to come out that the first person served had virtually finished eating by the time the last person was served. Finally, and this is so sad, the standard of customer service was so poor it made me reflect on how do we manage to get this so wrong in the UK compared to a lot of other countries? This pub has a lot of potential, but the staff and management need to be replaced with someone who really knows what hospitality is about. Sorry for such a slating but that's how it was.

Food is always nice, good value for money. The table service is brilliant really polite and happy. The only thing that let's it down is the price of drinks, double vodka and coke cost more than my meal !!!!! What you would save on a drink in another establishment you could eat somewhere posh.

In need of a thorough deep clean. Snail trails all over the carpet which clearly hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. Food was served on cold plates, my partners “home made chicken tikka” tasted like a curry from a jar, not what you expect when you’re paying £10 for a meal. Additionally the Pepsi max was flat, and tasted dusty, like they hadn’t cleaned their soda guns for god knows how long. Was like a ghost town inside and I can see why. Would not return.

Had a lovely meal here with my daughter and partner, and his family. We have been quite afew times, and each time we enjoy it. Lovely food, great staff and the prices are average. Would highly recommend.

Don't waste your time or money. Food was served on cold plates, not even warm ones, and the food was luke warm. The gentleman behind the bar made us feel unwanted as soon as we walked in. We should have walked straight back out but gave the benefit of the doubt and wish we hadn't bothered. We were out for dinner for a birthday but was a complete disappointment. We had been away for the weekend and had 2 other meals previous evenings that we couldn't fault.

Pretty standard bup grub tbh nothing special we only went because there was nothing else around that was open and available. Don't really feel like there's much to say apart from, it was just, orite.

Had a fantastic meal with a family of 12, all meals brought to the table so we could eat together. Food was spot on, and staff were very friendly. We will be back.

Not fancy, but portions are good & the location is convenient to visit with my Aunt who lives near Tean. Menu is extensive enough to suit most people (can't comment on those with allergies though).

Lovely meals, staff are pleasant

Well we have been going here for the past 7 years + now & we have always had great meals. However recently we have noticed that things seemed to have gone gradually downhill over the past couple of years. We went mid week last week with some friends, we were all disappointed with our meals & experience here compared to what we have been used to over the years. Four of us had the hunters mixed grills & the steaks used were all very cheap cuts & chewy to the point where my friend couldn't eat his! The other meats like the lamb were not great to with the chorizo sausage probably been the best part of the meal!. All the peas/ side veg on all the plates were stone cold & the overall presentation of all the meals looked like they had just been chucked on the plates in haste. The overall care & presentation of this pub in our opinion has gone down bank to, there's missing floor tiles by the fire next to the bar that have been taped off for months if not for over a year now. The conservatory roof is filthy & it leaks when raining, we noticed water dripping from a light fitting above our heads while we were there!. Customer service was not great to, we got there around 7.20pm on a Wednesday night & from 8.30pm onwards until we left, we felt like that we were just in the way & that the staff couldn't wait to get us out to close up. Sorry Dog & Partridge you have been my favourite pub to eat out in over many years now, I have recommended you to numerous friends & family, had some good times & excellent meals. But no more for us your standards that I used tell everyone about have really slipped, so I honestly could'nt recommend you to anyone now which is a great shame.

Real ale was served warm. When the pint was returned the bar staff knew about the problem and still served the beer.

Food and service was awful. Boyfriend ordered a steak & chicken combo, steak was requested to be cooked medium rare but came near enough well done - upon telling the manager, he tried to argue that it was medium rare and that my partner had eaten “most” of his meal (he’d eaten some of his chicken and chips but left everything else). I had the lamb shank that was so tough I couldn’t chew it, it had fat running all the way through it. After complaining, the manager tried to argue on how the steak was cooked and that lamb shank should apparently be like that and not tender. Will not visit again and after speaking to people regarding our visit it’s clear it has gone downhill massively. It’s very easy to stick food in an oven out of the freezer and call yourself a chef

Carvery here is beautiful. Always cooked to perfection and the vegetables are really tasty. They're not mean with the meat, you have 3 good slices of whatever 3 roasts they have. Opens at 12 which is when we aim to get there for as everything is fresh. The conservatory you sit in gets a little warm so don't wear anything thick, you'll be cooked! Staff are always friendly too.

Exellent food and good value for money

Meat was fantastic. Garlic Bread was great too. Meals fantastic value for money. The only negative is that the chips aren't great. Other than the chips, no much to fault at all.

Very good food you should certainly give it a try. Only down fault in my eyes it you cannot open a tab you have to pay for everything as you go along . But that is my apinion

We love “The Dog” for an early in the week tea - always a lovely warm welcome from Phil the landlord and his team. The food is always freshly prepared from good produce and my husband loves the first class beers on tap and the excellent hot custard with apple pie! Well done to all and please keep doing what you do!

Went back for the first time in about 5 years. Used to be great food and good value. Sadly this is no longer the case. Portions are significantly smaller and the food was luke warm. Steak was terrible, ended up taking half of it home for the dog. Won't be going back.

The best carvery around, barring anywhere for Sunday Lunch. The food is consistently excellent. All the food is well prepared and very tasty. Friendly staff also. Most Highly recommended. 5 Stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

It was an amazing meal . Beautiful choice . My boys and there partners loved the t bone steaks and there lamb shañk and chicken burger all fresh well cooked the chips were beautiful and my vegetable option was the lasagne perfect great choice beautiful selection of swéets to greatly priced .wonderful service we will be back . Great staff, absolutely banging food at reasonable prices. Had a mixed grill and my order was taken and served in under 20 mins cooked perfectly, which has convinced me I'll be paying another visit in the future.

First impressions when entering were not good, the pub is dirty throughout and in desperate need of a thorough clean. We were then greated by the landlord from behind the bar who honestly looked like he'd just crawled out of bed. We ordered our meals and paid with debit card which the landlord was clearly not happy with, he even had the nerve to comment that he doesn't understand why people can't go to a cash machine before coming out for a meal instead of using cards all the time as he gets charged everytime a customer pays with a card. I can only assume he prefers cash only to line his own pocket as we were not given any receipt. The food came out fairly quickly and was average but as an overall experience we were disappointed and would not be in any rush to return any time soon.

Consistently superb mixed grills, give the Hunters a try! I’m never disappointed when I go here for a meal!

This place is normally one of my favourite placed to go for food. However this time I was very disappointed the prices have gone up slightly on some choices which is understandable but the portion size has reduced to a level that I don't think makes it very good value for money. My husband had steak and chips now normally there are enough chips this time there was about half the amount we would normally get so I asked the waitress if we could get some more chips to be told you need to go to the bar to order more chips. Now at this point my husbands food was on the table so he went to the bar to order some more chips which took him at least 10 minutes to order. The chips took that long to come he'd almost ate all his food why they couldn't just bring more chips out is beyond me. We would have paid for them afterwards. My meal came on this huge metal plate like the ones that you put sandwiches on at a buffet totally ridiculous size for the amount of food on it. One jacket potato which wasn't big one piece of steak and cajun chicken they looked lost on this huge plate and it felt like I was eating off a dog bowl. Just totally disappointed and we won't be going back for a while as its a distance for us to travel to not be happy with the food and service we received.

Came for the first time with my husband and kids! Kids had something off the menu whereas me and the hubby had a carvery, and I must say, it’s the best I’ve had! The mash itself was absolutely delish!!! It’s also Great value for money!! The kids loved their burgers/gammon!! We are definitely returning on a monthly basis!! We are well and truly stuffed!!!

Pizza too hard and doughy, especially for a child. Portions MUCH smaller now. Some of the food lukewarm. Used to be a really good choice for a regular local eatery!

Second visit for a Sunday carvery. Excellent again, though did go for the smaller plate this time.Big plate is huge. Good choice of veg and three meats on the menu. We will be back.

Would have give this a zero. Meal was cold when arriving at the table. Meal returned after being microwaved. Pie and peas still cold, chips then went soft. Then the manager wanted to tell me different. Given this place enough chances. Never again. I'll stick to the Greyhound at Yarlet bank.

Fantastic Sunday carvery, plenty of choice and well cooked. Fantastic staff. Would have been 5 stars let down by the decor and rickety chairs. Will definately be going back.

My Wife and I have driven past this pub lots of times but never visited, we called in today and we were pleasantly surprised. Very friendly staff and nice pub grub.

Visited today, as we were passing, first and last visit my partner asked for half a pint, and ended up a pint, which was undrinkable, pipes need to be cleaned out. As they had plenty of time to do as it was almost empty. We left the drinks and walked out.
